• MRTG Monitoring of Disk

  I am trying to monitor Disk usage over SNMP using MRTG on CentOS5.2. I'm open to any suggestions as to the best way to achieve this (I would also like to do other metrics like CPU). Please don't assume I know anything about MRTG. So essentially I'm wondering where can I find a mib file compatible with mrtg for it's reference or a working config file.

I also have a few OID's that were supplied by the vendor that don't seem to be valid. When I issue an "snmpget -v1 -c public 192.168.0.123 .1.4.6.3.2.6.2" (assume that's a valid OID), I get an error indicating the variable is unknown. Does this sound like a hardware configuration problem? Do I need to "load" (for lack of better words) the MIB into the device? Unfortunately, the vendor has been completely unresponsive with returning emails to my questions, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

• How stable are Cisco IOS OIDs for querying data with SNMP across different model devices?

  I'm querying a bunch of information from cisco switches using SNMP. For instance, I'm pulling information on neighbors detected using CDP by doing an snmpwalk on .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.23 Can I use this OID across different cisco models? What pitfalls should I be aware of? To me, I'm a little uneasy about using numeric OIDs - it seems like I should be using a MIB database or something and using the named OIDs, in order to gain cross-device compatibility, but perhaps I'm just imagining the need for that.

• SNMPD running but not listening for connections at random

  OS: CentOS release 5.7 (Final) Net-SNMP: net-snmp-5.3.2.2-14.el5_7.1 (from RPM) Periodically my NMS notifies me that SNMP has gone down on this machine. The service is restored in between 10 to 30 minutes. My NMS also pings and check SSH and those services are not affected during the SNMP outage. SNMPD log file shows that it is working and apparently receiving packets (either from local agents from 127.0.0.1 or from my NMS at 172.16.37.37) however attempting to snmpwalk locally or from the NMS system fails with a timeout. I have 7 of these servers running mixture of CentOS 5.7 and RHEL 5.7 with this specific version of Net-SNMP installed from RPM - none of them have this issue except this one. 5 of the machines (including the NMS system and this problem server) are in the same rack connected using one switch. Restarting SNMPD does not fix the issue - it clears up by itself eventually. Any suggestions where I can begin diagnosing the issue? It's a closed subnet so IPTables is not used. • LM Sensors always returning same (invalid) value for one temp sensor

  I am trying to monitor the temp sensors on a server, and plot them using Cacti. I have lm-sensors installed and working correctly. • Toshiba eStudio 281c turn off snmp in driver.

  I have a customer with an eStudio 281c colour copier/printer and I'm having an issue with terminal services. Basically, the driver has the ability to query the printer for its configuration over snmp. I've set it to manual rather than auto so it's effectively switched off. Trouble is, when logging into terminal services it's still trying to communicate with the printer. This is an issue because when it fails it then defaults to being a different printer model with a different tray configuration. Users can still print but the settings are wrong. Any ideas?

  Hello, I have looked for months now, for JavaScript-based HTML editor I can embed onto my web pages to replace a TEXTAREA, but to enable me to edit CODE in a friendly, closer to a real editor, way. All editors I've tried (RadEditor from Telerik, FCKEditor, TinyMCE, etc etc), do not trap the TAB key, very useful when editing HTML code onto a page, to help format the code properly. I'm not talking about syntax highlighting, as that would be an awesome plus. But I am mainly wondering if there is such an editor. I'd appreciate being pointed in the right direction.

  Hi, I'm quite fond of munin and using it also at home to monitor my PCs. What was super-duper easy under Linux is pretty much unsolvable for me under Windows: I'd like to monitor CPU and Motherboard temperatures as well as fan speed. On Linux I'm using lm-sensors and the plugin for munin was basically there. I access already some information from my Windows machine via SNMP (disk space, CPU usage, memory usage); the graphs are simple as is the information exposed via SNMP, but they do their job. But when it comes to temperature and fan speed I'm running against a wall. My research so far resulted in that Windows does not by default provide out of the box ability to retrieve temperature/fan speed data. Third party applications are necessary which have know-how how to communicate with the Motherboard chips. The best I cam up with is that SpeedFan exposes a shared memory interface and there exists a library which hooks into Windows SNMP facility and bridges over to SpeedFans shared memory interface; it's called SFSNMP (site currently down). Unfortunately the library doesn't work, there's a bug report at SpeedFan open about it, but it's currently not moving (although the SFSNMP author is active there) . So, unless that's going to work like anytime soon, are there any alternatives? I'm not found of buying any software to get that feature, given that I take it as granted that my system exposes me the information to properly monitor it, but anyway don't just not answer because of this.

• Cacti dskIndex RHEL

  I'm attempting to use includeAllDisks in my snmpd.conf for RHEL 4 and RHEL 5 machines, but no data is being returned on the Cacti Data Query. snmpwalk isn't giving me any results. $ snmpwalk -v 2c -c public 172.19.4.140 .1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.9.1.1 UCD-SNMP-MIB::dskIndex = No Such Instance currently exists at this OID If I add disk / to snmpd.conf snmpwalk gives me the right results. $ snmpwalk -v 2c -c public 172.19.4.140 .1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.9.1.1 UCD-SNMP-MIB::dskIndex.1 = INTEGER: 1 I am wanting to deploy this to many systems using the same snmpd.conf (via Satellite). The disk configuration varies among systems and manually configuring snmpd.conf is not an optimal solution. Is there a way to get includeAllDisks to work? • MRTG + RRDTool Hourly Graph

  I am using MRTG + RRDtool to monitor the bandwidth on each switchport of a Cisco Catalyst 2950 via snmp. Is MRTG capable of generating an hourly graph? With RRDtool I was able to set the interval to 1 minute in hopes of getting a more detailed graph, but the shortest timeframe the graph is 'Daily' graph (5 Minute Average) and the image is too small. What I am looking to get out of this: I am looking to be able to visually monitor all of the switch ports and tell when port begins to have unusually high traffic, in real time (1 minute interval of snmp poll, graphs generated, and page refreshed).

• Cisco Router - Add a missing MIB file

  I have a Cisco 881w, and I would like to setup NBAR in my NetFlow Analyzer. But it says that my router misses this MIB in order to allow NFA to poll the router with snmp to get NBAR infos. From the FAQ page of the NetFlow Analyzer website, it responds to my error: Q. I am able to issue the command "ip nbar protocol-discovery" on the router and see the results. But NFA says my router does not support NBAR, Why? A. Earlier version of IOS supports NBAR discovery only on router. So you can very well execute the command "ip nbar protocol-discovery" on the router and see the results. But NBAR Protocol Discovery MIB(CISCO-NBAR-PROTOCOL-DISCOVERY-MIB) support came only on later releases. This is needed for collecting data via SNMP. Please verify that whether your router IOS supports CISCO-NBAR-PROTOCOL-DISCOVERY-MIB. The missing MIB is: CISCO-NBAR-PROTOCOL-DISCOVERY-MIB I found it here: ftp://ftp.cisco.com/pub/mibs/v2/CISCO-NBAR-PROTOCOL-DISCOVERY-MIB.my But how can I add this MIB into the router? One of the datapoints I'm monitoring is a voltage status MIB which alerts if any of the internal voltages becomes too high or low - with the thresholds being set, presumably, by Sun at the time of manufacture. These trigger with surprising frequency - is this anything to worry about?

We currently have a fairly rudimentary cron which alerts us when limits are hit but we could like a graphing solution to show us history. Obviously we could roll our own using some fancy bash/php/perl and rrdtool but we're wondering if there are any existing solutions before we go down this path. • Accessing temperature data on ESXi5.1?

  For ESXi5.1 (VMWare vSphere) images, I can see temperature data on the vSphere user interface (under Monitor / Hardware Status). I tried scouring the available snmp data using snmpwalk, but can't find the data anywhere in there. Maybe I'm missing something. Does anybody know the right MIB for temperature data? Otherwise, ow can that data be accessed? By the way, this is a machine installed from an image provided by HP.

  I am trying to configure snmptt to translate the snmp traps received and handle them as passive checks in icinga monitoring server as described here . after doing the changes to the snmptrapd.conf . I am trying to restart the service and I see authcommunity : command not found, traphandle : command not found . my understanding is the authcommunity and traphandle are just configuration directives which will tell snmptrapd about the community string to use and the traphandle script to be called. It would be helpful if someone can help me understand better. Thanks, sabs

  I manage a small network with a Cisco ASA 5505 and a shared DSL connection. I would like to be able monitor the bandwidth usage of the various users/devices on my network (by IP). Can I do that using the ASA? Has anyone got this working? What is the best way to do this? Some Ideas I Have Seen Online: SNMP with a tool like Cacti Does this give per IP usage with an ASA or just overall usage? Netflow with a tool like ntop Couldn't get this to work. It seems that the Netflows sent by ASA are not exactly standard. Ntop receives them, but doesn't seem to know what do with them.

• Assistance in setting up new APC Smart-UPS RT on a new VMware enviroment

  I'm new to the realm of setting up a APC Smart-UPS RT 8000VA UPS with a management network card (AP9618). The project calls for the upgrade of the firmware for the network card to the newest and greatest. It also calls for the Powerchute Business Software to be installed with notifications setup per email for temperature, shutdown, and battery low. I know I'll have to use the serial cable to flash the firmware and install the software on one server 2003 box. Also on that server I'll have to install the software and setup the GUI (IP address) interface. Whats confusing the most is the whole process, and steps to use without taking down the network, which would be very bad. In flashing the firmware does it take down the UPS? Do i have to run BOOTP commands to setup the network card? Also no agents will be used on any of the VWware OS's and no SNMP trap will be used.

• SNMPD - passing values in a trap

  Im trying to create an SNMP setup to monitor 500-1K machines. Each will be joined to the SNMPTRAPD server via a VPN. When the client system sends its messages, it's sending its internal address instead of the VPN address even though the 'trapsync' command is using the VPN. This will be a problem as many of these system will have DHCP addresses based on location so there will be overlap. What I'd like to figure out is how to pass extra values with the trap so I can identify which system a given trap comes from.

• MRTG: Switch Port Throughput

  I currently have MRTG running in a Debian box. It currently polls a Netgear Switch for the speeds of 7 or so ports and then makes the graphs of them. It currently only records the bits/sec. I would like to set up MRTG to record and display the total amount of data that has gone through the port, not just the speed of it. I am somewhat new to MIBS and SNMP and so I need some help. The switch is a Netgear GS748AT and am not quite sure where to find the MIBS for it, or which MIBS I need to accomplish my task. Any and all help is appreciated!

• mount samba share on a vmware instance

  I've a windows machine in which a linux server is run by a "VMWare player". From the windows machine, I want some folders to be mounted on the Linux virtual server. All this is done in a maven build (which is quite irrevelant here, in fact). From what I understand, to make these windows folders available as mountable ones, I have to do the following operations Share the folders as Samba ones using net share, this I have done. Access my virtual server and check which folders are already mounted (which seems to be doable using a less /etc/fstab), this I'll do soon Mount my samba shares using smbmount All that seems to my by far too hackish code. Could the same be done using ... say ... JMX/SNMP or any other high-level technology ?
