    I'm working in the Codeigniter framework, and want to send requests to my controller/model that have several variables involved. Is there a difference between passing those variables via a hidden form (i.e. using "post") as opposed to passing them through URIs (e.g. 'travel/$month/$day/')?   • Disambiguating Named Entities in Java

    I have a list of strings (company names, in this case), and a Java program that extracts a list of things that look like company names out of mostly-unstructured text. I need to match each element of extracted text to a string in the list. Caveat: the unstructured text has typos, things like "Blah, Inc." referred to as "Blah," etc. I've tried Levenshtein Edit Distance, but that fails for predictable reasons. Are there known best-practices ways of tackling this problem? Or am I back to manual data-entry?

  • Detect numbers and process them ?

    Hi, I am trying to detect the numbers written on a grid and then process them using the iPhone camera. What i have found till yet are some good examples like: http://blog.damiles.com/?p=93 http://cmgresearch.blogspot.com/2010/01/augmented-reality-on-iphone-how-to_01.html Although I am able to draw the numbers on the overlay view to a good extent but still not able to detect what these numbers are. What I don't wanna do is to go through the whole AI process: training the system, providing the system whole set of values and then process them, because this is so much troublesome for me as well for the performance of my application.   • Safari and Chrome back button changes hidden and submit values in forms

    The following problem happens on both Safari and Chrome, so probably a WebKit issue. Page A: a page that requires you to login to see, contains a form that has a type=submit button, with name=submit, and value=a Page B: some other page Page C: ask user to login page, contains a form with a type=submit button, with name=submit and value=c User visits page A, then page B. Then idles and the user's login session times out. User hits back button to go back to page A. Browser redirects user to page C. On Safari and Chrome, when C is rendered, the form on page C has the type=submit button, name=submit, but value shows up as "a". If you reload while on page C, "c" appears as the value of the name=submit button. The same problem appears with type=hidden input fields; when user hits back button, their values are also changed to some other value from some other form. Also, this problem also shows up w/o the redirect, with just submit then back. In this case the previous page renders with incorrect values for hidden and submit CGI variables. So far the only fix I can come up with is use Javascript to reset the type=hidden and type=submit variable values, after page C loads, to make sure the values are correct. But that's not clean and universally applicable. Short of WebKit fixing this error, has anyone ran into a better workaround? Thanks.

  • jQuery, Forms, Browser Refreshes

    I have a large form with some fields values dependent on previous elements. I use jquery's .trigger event to trigger the dependent field's update functions. When I refresh the page (click reload or click back), the previous values selected are still there, but the dependent fields are not reflecting the other element's values. How can I trigger the update functions upon refresh? I saw a way to prevent the browser from using the form's cached values. I'd rather use the cached values and update the elements dependent on the elements with cached values.

  • Baffled by PHP escaping of double-quotes in HTML forms

    I have a simple PHP script I use to front-end an SQLite database. It's nothing fancy or complex. But I have noticed from looking at the records in the database that anything I enter in a form-field with double-quotes comes across in the form-processing as though I'd escaped the quotes with a backslash. So when I entered a record with the title: British Light Utility Car 10HP "Tilly" what shows up in the database is: British Light Utility Car 10HP \"Tilly\" I don't know where these are coming from, and what's worse, even using the following preg_replace doesn't seem to remove them: $name = preg_replace('/\\"/', '"', $_REQUEST['kits_name']); If I dump out $name, it still bears the unwanted \ characters.

  • Closing Windows Forms on a Touchscreen

    Our clients have fat fingers, and so do we. We take touchscreen netbooks apart to insert them into our custom hardware, and I write a software interface that shows up on the touchscreen. The problem is that it has about a 3/4" bezel over the screen, which means hitting that little red "X" becomes a challenge, especially considering reduced capacitive ability on the edges and corners. Is there a way to make this standard close button larger? Of course in the application I can always make really nice 80x80 buttons that are perfectly usable, but there seems to be no way to override the default frame of the form. We have tried enabling Large Fonts and all the built-in accessibility features, but nothing seems to make it large enough to hit successfully. Simply adding a toolbar button is also not much of an option. We prefer to utilize the standard look and feel of a normal Windows application. Alternatively, should we be looking at making some sort of "kiosk mode" where we simply go fullscreen and do nothing involving the taskbar or title bar? How difficult is this to accomplish, if so?

  • Windows Mobile 6.5 flick (scrolling with inertia) not working

    After upgrading to windows mobile 6.5, my ListView control does not work properly with custom items (rows with alternate colors) and the new gesture mechanism... On a mobile device, if the user initiates a flick or pan, after scrolling the first few items, the last items are not shown on the screen, but will show up if the user explicitly taps on them -- so basically the last screen is just white. The WM_DRAWITEM message is sent to all children though, but they just don't show up on the screen. Scrolling with a bar works fine. Any ideas? I have seen some reports of similar behavior from other users, but not sure if this is a bug in the listview control itself or if there is something else that needs to/can be implemented to support flick and pan actions. The application code currently doesn't handle WM_GESTURE messages, so the flick action is done with Microsoft's own code to support legacy applications. Thanks!

I am trying to generate a form, with a dynamic number of text fields, to populate and edit the contents of my custom table. A page could have a number of these links, and each link is for a specific "thing". I also have a piece of (unobtrusive) jQuery javascript that adds a click handler to each form as follows: $('a.form_submit').click(function(event) { $('form').submit(); event.preventDefauilt(); }); This works when there is one form on a page. However, if I have more than one form on a page, how do I ensure that clicking "Delete Thing 1" will trigger a submit() event only on the form with id='comment_1'?

    I have a voice application that would be much-improved if there was the ability to use a "trigger word" to start recording audio. I don't need a full speech-text engine, just the ability to reliably/efficiently detect the trigger word. I am wondering if there are any specialized speech engines that support this specific use case, or any libraries/methods to developing such a single-purpose detection engine. Ideally I'd like it to work in noisy environments, but it can be trained for a single user's voice. Pointers to research papers / topics would also be appreciated so I know what to ask for.
