• New DataCenter Options for Windows Azure

• Session Mania: Content Catalog & Suggest-a-Session

  As ably reported in the Oracle Technology Network blog, the Oracle Develop Conference's content catalog is now public (as are the catalogs for JavaOne and Oracle OpenWorld), meaning you can now explore technical sessions scheduled for the conf to your heart's content."But something's missing", you may tell yourself. "Where is my favorite subject, the one I happen to also be an expert on?" Well, there's good news for you, too: The Suggest-A-Session project has returned. It works thus: Submit a session idea via Oracle Mix and ask your colleagues, Oracle Mix community, friends and anyone else you know to vote for your session. (You must be an Oracle Mix member to vote.) Voting is open through June 20. For the most part, the top voted sessions will be selected for the Oracle Develop Conf (or Oracle OpenWorld) official agenda.   Do you follow any any conventions when programming in PowerShell? For example, in scripts which are to be maintained long-term do you: Use the real cmdlet name or alias? Specify the cmdlet parameter name in full or only partially (dir -Recurse versus dir -r) When specifying string arguments for cmdlets do you enclose them in quotes (New-Object 'System.Int32' versus New-Object System.Int32 When writing functions and filters do you specify the types of parameters? Do you write cmdlets in the (official) correct case? For keywords like BEGIN...PROCESS...END do you write them in uppercase only? Thanks for any replies.

• OpenGL ES 2.0 example for JOGL

  I've scoured the internet for the last few hours looking for an example of how to run even the most basic OpenGL ES 2 example using JOGL but "by Jupiter!" it has been a total fail. I tried converting the android example from the OpenGL ES 2.0 Programming Guide examples (and at the same time looking at the WebGL example -- which worked fine) yet without any success. Are there any examples out there? If anyone else wants some extra help regarding this question see this thread on the official Jogamp forum.

• Splitting up revenue among development team members on Apple's app store

  A friend and I have started developing an app to put on Apple's app store. Development is going fine, but thinking ahead, we're trying to come up with an easy way to share any revenue coming from our efforts. The app store allows you to deposit your revenue into a single bank account, but there's no easy way to split revenue among several people. How do (small) dev teams split up revenue on their products, on, and off the app store? As far as I can tell, banks don't offer an easy way to automatically split the balance on an account 50-50 (or any other percentage, for that matter), especially on a regular basis. So how do teams deal with this? We're not incorporated, and we don't have an official business set up. We're considering depositing all the money into one of our accounts and manually transferring half the money to the other person, but this isn't sustainable over long periods of time. Is there a low-cost, sustainable, automatic process for handling these finances?

• Solutions for software using many calls to a server

  I am developing software that uses many calls to a server. On a client side it's a Silverlight application. Almost every time a user clicks on a button in it, it sends 1-5 WCF calls to a server. There can be up to dozen or so users at a time. The server is a database server that serves data to a client. I am an intermediate level developer and am thinking about caching some data and syncing my changes from time to time. Are there any official solutions or technologies for it, like, patterns and such?

• How do I use apt-get to update to the latest kernel?

  My current kernel is 3.2.0-26 (my main computer) while on another of my Ubuntu computers, with which I didn't fiddle with unofficial updates, it's 3.2.0-30. Yet the Update manager on my main computer doesn't show available kernel updates. It shows other updates though. I suspect is due to the fact that in the past I installed multiple mainline kernel versions (not recommended versions), up to 3.5* series. What I'm after: Either: Fix automatic kernel updates. Or: Learn about a way to check for the latest official ubuntu kernel version and get it manually (I know how to install kernels from debs) What I have already tried: Uninstalled unused kernels including "the generic one without a number" as per http://askubuntu.com/a/103875/29347 and then also https://ubuntugenius.wordpress.com/2011/01/08/ubuntu-cleanup-how-to-remove-all-unused-linux-kernel-headers-images-and-modules/

• How to upgrade Compiz to 0.9.8 or downgrade to 0.8.6 in 12.04?

  For a very long time, I'm experiencing this bug in Compiz. It makes my windows flash, when rotating the desktop cube. None of the animations work properly execpt the Wobbly windows. However the temporary fix I found on the bug page helped me to reduce the effects, but it's not 100% perfect. Now they have totally fixed the bug in Compiz 0.9.8 for Quantal. I really need to get the official fix on my Ubuntu 12.04. Don't the LTS versions get bug fixes? Sometimes my desktop cube/cylinder appears like this : None of this happened in Lucid Lynx :( Thanks for having a look.....

• Community Day at SOS Kinderdorf Bambous

  Easter is not only an occassion of public holidays but an opportunity to share and celebrate with your neighborhood. The team of IOS Indian Ocean Software Ltd. spent Easter Monday with the children and "mothers" of SOS Children's Village in Bambous. Together with the employees' family members we enjoyed some wonderful hours together. Starting the community day with a common lunch, IOS contributed mainly stationery, educational gifts and games like Scrabble or Sudoku. And of course, a little give-away with chocolate eggs... The kids are aged between 5 and 18 years. They live together with their village mothers in so-called family houses. The SOS Kinderdorf in Bambous is quite new and started their operations back in 2003, with an official inauguration in May 2005. Actually, I'm really happy about this event and I am looking forward to IOS next community activity. • Ubuntu install and dual Boot with Windows 8 UEFI

  i have Ubuntu 12.04 x64 ISO, i load it on a Fat32 USB. My notebook has a hdd with GPT where i installed Official Win 8 Pro x64 (final versión), I partitioned the whole hdd, previously of win 8 install, and bios is set with UEFI boot. My BIOS notebook doesn't support SECURE UEFI BOOT. So I boot the notebook from USB and the Grub runs OK showing whether to run Ubuntu live or to install, but neither one neither two works, when I choose then the screen shows black and nothing happen, it doesn't start/loads the install program. I've try whether to prepare the usb with unetbootin, or just direct copy/paste the files onto the USB. I also have try WUBI, but neither with success, it launch an error when ending.

Also some of the code was not developed on my computer and there is no official agreement in place. Not looking to screw anyone over here but need to protect myself if things go sour. • How does one block unsupported web browsers?

  Web browsers with an end of life no longer receive security updates which not only makes them vulnerable to the end user, but I imagine its not safe for the server's which receive visits by them either. Is it practical to block or enforce and notify the end user that their browser is unsafe and unsupported? If so, how would one achieve that? I don't know of any official or crowd-sourced listing with that information to parse and keep up to date. I'm aware that the practice can be custom built with User Agent parsing and feature detection for HTML5 enabled browsers.

  This question is similar to this one: What unique enhancements and features has Ubuntu brought to the Linux Community but in this case it is directed towards what has Ubuntu contributed to the official Linux Kernel. For example, many times I hear about Intel contributing to patches for the Linux Kernel like the RC6 latest patches and any other related to the recent Sandy/Ivy Bridges. In another group, Android did an upstream patch and a lot of ARM patches have also come to the Linux Kernel. I have seeing only a small percent of companies and groups that have contributed to the Linux Kernel (http://kernel.org) but I want to know, since the beginning of Ubuntu till now, what has Ubuntu contributed to the Linux Kernel in regards to any aspect of the kernel. For Kernel information I typically go to http://kernelnewbies.org and http://kernel.org

• Lack of Transparency in the Supply Chain Results in Inconsistent Reporting on Conflict Minerals

  May 31, 2014 was the official deadline for U.S.-listed companies to disclose use of conflict minerals to the SEC. Of the estimated 6,000 companies that were required to file audits of their tin, gold, tungsten or tantalum in their products, only 1,300 filed reports, and these results have revealed the ongoing challenges that many manufacturers are having complying with this legislation. An article authored by IDC analyst Heather Ashton,"Conflict Minerals Reporting Passes a Notable Milestone" notes that many leading companies such as Intel, Apple and HP filed their reports ahead of the deadline, but other companies are struggling with trying to trace their supply chain back to raw materials, especially as many non-U.S. based suppliers have no legal requirement to comply with the law since they are not U.S.-listed companies. • Should I put an app I wrote on my résumé even if it has low ratings?

  Last summer I wrote an iPhone app for the Toronto Film Festival. The development was pretty rushed, and the design goals were changed multiple times. In particular, the central film list view controller was redesigned three times in the week before launch. I forgot to update one of my functions to match the changed design, and the app shipped with a serious bug. While the app was fairly popular, this bug crippled the app and it got a lot of poor reviews. I fixed the bug as soon as I got a crash report, but it got stuck in the iTunes review process for the duration of the film festival. Should I put this app on my résumé? The app has poor ratings and most of the reviews mention crashes, but it's also the only work experience I have. Additionally, how should I approach this topic in an interview? • Cannot execute binary file

  I am new to Ubuntu and I'm trying to install Popcorn Time. I downloaded 32 bit version and tried to install it but that's where the problem started showing. I duble clicked the executable file and well, nothing happened. It's a official download from their web-site but it doesn't work. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.....Anyway, I found out that you can insatll it from a script, but people keep talking in ubuntu terms and I don't understand it, so I have a few questions: 1.How to make a script? (witch I'm suppose to run in terminal using bash comand), 2.Is it normal that i cannot run the installer, and if that is an installer or just files for the program. 3.If it is an installer, how do I make it work? 4.What does " Cannot execute binary file" mean? Thank you in advance, hope I'm not asking too many questions(please understand that I'm new to ubuntu) and sorry about my English. xD
