  • Dissapearing object function??

    Is there a reason for object functions to be unset or deleted or simply not applied for any reason at all that isn't intentional? I am maintaining someone elses code and gone through it many times. I use Google Chromes awesome debuger and also TextMate. These help me find the origin of error relatively fast. The problem I have now is that i have an object: types. This object conatains...types. And these types have functions and other variables attached to them. For some reason in the middle of the code, this type has been passed by reference millions of times probably. When it comes to a certain part of the code parts of it, seem to have dissapeared. Puff! And it's gone..! Anyone have a clue (other than it being removed somewhere else earlier in the code, I'm already looking for that)

    Is there built in methods into .net framework to do the following: Get role GUID from user name/user GUID Get role name from role GUID So far I have been sending queries to the asp_roles and asp_users tables to obtain that information and I'm wondering if there is a nicer way of doing this? Few examples completely override the SQLMembershipProvider, but I think what I'm interested is just adding few extra methods to deal with the roles by using LINQ. Is this feasible?

  • Step-by-step execution for Intel AT&T assembler?

    Hello everyone, I'm writing a compiler that converts source code (written in a small imperative programming language) to Intel AT&T 32-bit assembler. I tend to spend a lot of time debugging, because of nasty offset-mistakes etc. in the generated code, and I would like to know if anyone knows of a tool to "walk through" the generated assembler code step-by-step, visualizing what's on the stack etc. I use Ubuntu Linux as my development platform, and I'm comfortable with the terminal -- a GUI-program would be nice though. Does it exist? Or is there a good reason it doesn't (maybe the problem isn't so straightforward..?) If you have good ideas for approaching debugging tasks in assembly code, I'll be glad to hear from you!

However, the code that uses a variable which contains the precomputed value for the loop limit is significantly slower than either of the others. I'm not surprised that accessing a variable should be slower that using a literal but why does code that looks like it should be using two multiply instructions on every iteration of the loop so comparable in performance to a literal? Could it be that because literals are the only thing being multiplied, the Java compiler is optimizing out the multiplication and using a precomputed literal?

  • GWT, MVP, and UIBinding - How to get the best of all worlds

    With MVP, you normally bind the View (UI) with the Presenter in the Presenter. However with the latest version of GWT, especially with UIBinding, you can do the following in the View: @UiHandler("loginButton") void onAboutClicked(ClickEvent event) { // my login code } Which basically exchanges a lot of anonymous inner class code for some quick annotation code. Very nice!! The problem is that this code is in the view and not the presenter... So I thought maybe: @UiHandler("loginButton") void onAboutClicked(ClickEvent event) { myPresenter.onAboutClicked(...); } But there are several problems with this approach. The most important, you blur the lines between View and Presenter. Who does which binding, in some cases it's the View, in others it's the presenter (binding to events not in your current view but that need to be attached - for example a system wide update event). You still get the benefit of being able to unit test your presenter, but at what cost. The responsibilities are messy now. For example the binding is sometimes in the View and others times in the Presenter level. I can see the code falling into all kinds of chaos with time. I also thought of extending the Presenter to the View, so that you could do this in the View. The problem here is that you lose the Presenter's ability to run standard unit tests! That's a major issue. That and the lines again become blurred. So my question, does anyone have a good method of taking advantage of the annotation from UIBinding within the MVP pattern without blurring the lines and losing the advantages of the MVP pattern?

    Hi, I am new to php and trying out this tutorial at : http://css-tricks.com/php-for-beginners-building-your-first-simple-cms/ Unfortunately I am getting the following error and can't seem to track down the reason: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_PUBLIC in ../simpleCMS.php on line 56 My code for simpleCMS.php is as is in the tutorial link above. FYI, my line 56 is the following line of code in simpleCMS.php public function display_admin() { Above this line is public function display_public() Can anyone possibly see what I could be doing wrong and again, my code is the same code from the tutorial website and have downloaded the files that came with it? Hoping someone can point me in the right direction. Furthermore, I am using Mac OS X MAMP to run my Apache/MySQL Server locally. My other question is, when I using the following command: mysql_connect($this->host,$this->username,$this->password) is my hostname 'localhost' alone or do I also have to include port alongside the localhost?     I am first and foremost a perl coder, but like many, also code in PHP for client work, especially web apps. I am finding that I am duplicating a lot of my projects in the two languages, but using different paradigms (e.g. for handling cgi input and session data) or functions. What I would like to do is start to code my Perl in a way which is structured more like PHP, so that I a) am keeping one paradigm in my head b) can more quickly port over scripts from one to the other Specifically, I am asking if people could advise how you might do the following in perl? 1) Reproduce the functionality of $_SESSION, $_GET etc. e.g. by wrapping up the param() method of CGI.pm, a session library? 2) Templating library that is similar to PHP I am used to mixing my code and HTML in the PHP convention. e.g. i <h1>HTML Code here</h1> <? print "Hello World\b"; ?> Can anybody advise on which perl templating engine (and possibly configuration) will allow me to code similarly? 3) PHP function library Anybody know of a library for perl which reproduces a lot of the php inbuilt functions?

    I am testing Java classes with RSpec and JRuby. How can I stub out a call to super in an imported Java class in my RSpec test? For example: I have 2 Java classes: public class A{ public String foo() { return "bar"; } } public class B extends A public String foo() { // B code return super.foo(); } } I am just trying to test the code in B.foo and not the code in A.foo with JRuby. How can I stub out the call to the super class method in my RSpec test? rspec test: java_import Java::B describe B do it "should not call A.foo" do # some code to stub out A.foo b = B.new b.foo.should_not == "bar" end end I have tried including a module with a new foo method in B's class hoping that it would hit the module method first but B still makes a call to A. The inserting module technique works in Ruby but not with JRuby and imported Java classes. Any other ideas to stub out the superclass method to get my RSpec test to pass?

    HI, I am making a GUI for a program I have created, where I need to be able to change the position of a load along a beam. I have set up the axes and the slider properly, but I am unsure how to get the axes to update, as I can't find any examples that show how to do this on the internet. At present, as I move the load, the position updates properly, but the old position stays on screen as well, which is quite annoying. Can anyone recommend any good examples that show how to do this, or does anyone have a suggestion of how to go about refreshing the axes? Regards, James

The things is that this structure is not like NSRect o NSPoint this structure packs objc objects soo I'm seeing a potential memory leak here. Do I need to provide a function to 'release' the structure?   • How do I use SLIDE instead of FADE in a YUI Menu animation?

    I'm using the following configuration for a menu that is attached to a button: var srchTypeMenuConfig = { shadow: false, effect: { effect: YAHOO.widget.ContainerEffect.FADE, duration: .25 } }; I get a nice fade in and out for my menu when I click on the button; I'd rather have it slide in and out though. I replace YAHOO.widget.ContainerEffect.FADE with YAHOO.widget.ContainerEffect.SLIDE and the menu doesn't appear. Is there a way for me to get YUI to give me the slide effect? Here's what I've done so far: 1) Looked at the examples. 2) Looked at some effects examples from DavGlass' blog. 3) Searched the forums for 'ContainerEffect.SLIDE'. 4) Searched SO for 'ContainerEffect.SLIDE [YUI]'. I haven't found any helpful information. I suspect that I need to add something to my configuration, but I don't understand why fade would work but slide doesn't.

  • Getting Safari document title/location with Scripting Bridge does not work in full-screen mode

    I'm trying to get the URL and document title from the topmost Safari document/tab. I have an AppleScript and an objective-c version using Apple's Scripting Bridge framework. Both versions work fine for most web pages, however when I open a Youtube video in full-screen mode, the Scripting Bridge based version fails. The Apple Script works fine for "normal" and full-screen Safari windows. Can anyone see what is wrong with the Scripting Bridge code below to cause it to fail for full-screen Safari windows?     Need help. I am trying to automate error notifications to be sent in mailers. For that I am querying the sysssislog table. I have pasted an "Execute SQl task" on the package event handler "On error". For testing purpose, I am deliberately trying to load duplicate keys in a table which consists of a Primary key column(so as to get an error). But instead of having just one error, "Violation of primary key constraint", SSIS records 3 in the table. PFA the screenshot as well. How can i restrict the tool to log only one error and not multiple ??? Package Structure. Package ("On error Event handler") - DFT - Oledb Source - Oledb Destination SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR.   • What add-in/workbench framework is the best .NET alternative to Eclipse RCP?

    I'm looking for a plugin-based application framework that is comparable to the Eclipse Plugin Framework, which to my simple mind consists of: a core plugin management framework (Equinox / OSGI), which provides the ability to declare extension endpoints and then discover and load plugins that service those endpoints. (this is different than Dependency Injection, but admittedly the difference is subtle - configuration is highly de-centralized, there are versioning concerns, it might involve an online plugin repository, and most importantly to me, it should be easy for the user to add plugins without needing to know anything about the underlying architecture / config files) many layers of plugins that provide a basic workbench shell with concurrency support, commands, preference sheets, menus, toolbars, key bindings, etc. That is just scratching the surface of the RCP, which itself is meant to serve as the foundation of your application, which you build by writing / assembling even more plugins. Here's what I've gleaned from the internet in the past couple of days... As far as I can tell, there is nothing in the .NET world that remotely approaches the robustness and maturity of the Eclipse RCP for Java but there are several contenders that do either #1 or #2 pretty well. (I should also mention that I have not made a final decision on WinForms vs WPF, so I'm also trying to understand the level of UI coupling in any candidate framework. I'm also wondering about platform coupling and source code licensing) I must say that the open-source stuff is generally less-documented but easier to understand, while the MS stuff typically has more documentation but is less accessible, so that with many of the MS technologies, I'm left wondering what they actually do, in a practical sense. These are the libraries I have found: SharpDevelop The first thing I looked at was SharpDevelop, which does both #1 and also #2 in a basic way (no insult to SharpDevelop, which is admirable - I just mean more basic than Eclipse RCP). However, SharpDevelop is an application more than a framework, and there are basic assumptions and limitations there (i.e. being somewhat coupled to WinForms). Still, there are some articles on CodeProject explaining how to use it as the foundation for an application. System.Addins It appears that System.Addins is meant to provide a robust add-in loading framework, with some sophisticated options for loading assemblies with varying levels of trusts and even running the out of process. It appears to be primarily code-based, and pretty code-heavy, with lots of assemblies that serve to insulate against versioning issues., using Guidance Automation to generate a good deal of code. So far I haven't found many System.AddIns articles that illustrate how it could be used to build something like an Eclipse RCP, and many people seem to be wringing their hands about its complexity. Mono.Addins It appears that Mono.Addins was influenced by System.Addins, SharpDevelop, and MonoDevelop. It seems to provide the basics from System.Addins, with less sophisticated options for plugin loading, but more simplicity, with attribute-based registration, XML manifests, and the infrastructure for online plugin repositories. It has a pretty good FAQ and documentation, as well as a fairly robust set of examples that really help paint a picture of how to develop an architecture like that of SharpDevelop or Eclipse. The examples use GTK for UI, but the framework itself is not coupled to GTK. So it appears to do #1 (add-in loading) pretty well and points the way to #2 (workbench framework). It appears that Mono.Addins was derived from MonoDevelop, but I haven't actually looked at whether MonoDevelop provides a good core workbench framework. Managed Extensibility Framework This is what everyone's talking about at the moment, and it's slowly getting clearer what it does, but I'm still pretty fuzzy, even after reading several posts on SO. The official word is that it "can live side-by-side" with System.Addins. However, it doesn't reference it and it appears to reproduce some of its functionality. It seems to me, then, that it is a simpler, more accessible alternative to System.Addins. It appears to be more like Mono.Addins in that it provides attribute-based wiring. It provides "catalogs" that can be attribute-based or directory-based. It does not seem to provide any XML or manifest-based wiring. So far I haven't found much documentation and the examples seem to be kind of "magical" and more reminiscent of attribute-based DI, despite the clarifications that MEF is not a DI container. Its license just got opened up, but it does reference WindowsBase -- not sure if that means it's coupled to Windows. Acropolis I'm not sure what this is. Is it MEF, or something that is still coming? Composite Application Blocks There are WPF and Winforms Composite Application blocks that seem to provide much more of a workbench framework. I have very little experience with these but they appear to rely on Guidance Automation quite a bit are obviously coupled with the UI layers. There are a few examples of combining MEF with these application blocks. I've done the best I could to answer my own question here, but I'm really only scratching the surface, and I don't have experience with any of these frameworks. Hopefully some of you can add more detail about the frameworks you have experience with. It would be great if we could end up with some sort of comparison matrix.

    Hello, is there any ReSharper-like addon for NetBeans (preferably 6.8)? I'm using NetBeans for PHP. I need following features: add some kind of code analysis add some intelligent refactoring interface enhance current code completion system add more options to code highlighting Currently I'm using multiple external tools, which aren't exactly user-friendly and I'd like to, preferably, have it all in one tool.
