  • Found a good tool for jQuery Coding &ndash; jQueryPad

    Just found a good (looks like) tool for jQuery coding and debugging from the appinn.com (Chinese) named jQueryPad by Paul Stovell. With it we don’t need to switch between the visual studio and the browser when coding and debugging. There’s only one main screen where we can type the HTML and jQuery code and just press F5 to see the result in the bottom frame. .NET Frameworks 3.5 is required.   Hope this helps.   • Installing Catalyst 11.6 for an ATI HD 6970

    Ubuntu Maverick 10.10 is displaying the desktop okay (though limited to 1600x1200) after my having installed my new HD 6970 card, so I'm now trying to install the proprietary driver (I understand the open source one requires a more recent kernel than that in Maverick). The proprietary driver under 'Additional Drivers' resulted in a black screen on boot, so I deactivated and am trying to follow the manual install instructions at the cchtml Ubuntu Maverick Installation Guide. I've tried running the command with and without sudo. I'm not experienced with installing from downloads/source, but it seems like the file debian/source isn't being set to be executable when it needs to be. If I extract only, without using the package builder command, debian/rules is 744. As to what to do next, I'm stumped. Many thanks.

  • How to share two keyboard on the same laptop, french iso layout and usa ansi layout keyboard with usb?

    I recently buy a "noppoo choc mini" with this specific ANSI US-INTERNATIONAL pc84 layout. This specific keyboard have only 84 key , a 60% (compact tenkeyless) reduced layout My problem is simple, there is no keyboard layout into Ubuntu 12.04 which correspond to this usa normal ansi layout ... so it's the same problem with reduced version and only 84 key .. I search a template of normal ANSI US-INTERNATIONAL for xmodmap/xkb, and after i can try to manually map the other key. I search on google, and i don't find any other user which have same problem, so it's seem i have not the good keywoard to search this information.. Edit 1 : Here you can see there is probably a bug in ubuntu, because the layout for USA with dead key is not correct ! EDIT4 Ok, it seems i can switch the physical layout (ISO <- ANSI) with this command in terminal : setxkbmap -layout us setxkbmap -layout us -variant alt-intl an setxkbmap -layout fr It's very complicated qnd it seem ubuntu 12.04 have big problem with keyboard manager ... because all works great with these two commands, without ANY change into the system parameters keyboard !!! Second bug ? The image of the layout for fr is buggy, the layout is not ISO, but i can press on the letter "< " at the left of right shift without any problem !   • How To: Automatically Remove www from a Domain in IIS7

    I recently moved the DevMavens.com site from one server to another and needed to ensure that the www.devmavens.com domain correctly redirected to simply devmavens.com.  This is important for SEO reasons (you dont want multiple domains to refer to the same content) and its generally better to use the shorter URL (www is so 20th century) rather than wasting 4 characters for zero gain. My friend and IIS guru Scott Forsyth pointed me to his blog post on how to set up IIS URL Rewriting.  To get started, you simply install IIS Rewrite from this link using the super awesome Web Platform Installer.  You should get something like this when youre done with the install: If you already have IIS Manager open, you may need to close it and re-open it before you see the URL Rewrite module.  Once you do, you should see it listed for any given Site under the IIS section: Double click on the URL Rewrite icon, and then choose the Add Rule(s) action.  You can simply create a blank rule, and name it Redirect from www to domain.com.  Essentially were following the instructions from Scott Forsyths post, but in reverse since hes showing how to add 4 useless characters to the URL and Im interested in removing them. After adding the name, well set the Match Url sections Using dropdown to Wildcards and specify a pattern of simply * to match anything. In the Conditions section we need to add a new condition with an Input of {HTTP_HOST} such that it should match the pattern www.devmavens.com (replace this with your domain). Ignore the Server Variables section. Set the action to Redirect and the Redirect URL to http://devmavens.com/{R:0} (replace with your domain).  The {R:0} will be replaced with whatever the user had entered.  So if they were going to http://www.devmavens.com/default.aspx theyll now be going to http://devmavens.com/default.aspx. The complete Inbound Rule should look like this: Thats it!  Test it out and make sure you havent accidentally used my exact URLs and started sending all of your users to devmavens.com! :)  Be sure to read Scotts post for more information on how to use regular expressions for your rules, and how to set them up via web.config rather than IIS manager.   • Can't boot into windows7 after installling Ubuntu-12.04 (LTS) on HP 6735s laptop 12.04

    I installed Ubuntu-12.04 (LTS) through a USB drive and when it's done i cant load Windows 7 (Loader)(on/dev/sda1) in GRUB. When I select that, it displays a black screen and then returns to GRUB but i'm still able to boot into 12.04. Help me to solve this, I installed Boot-repair,I checked reinstall grub in the main option tab and checked place boot flag on sda1 windows7 in other options tab , re booted and it wasnt working this is was bootinfo summary http://paste.ubuntu.com/1206875/, i also tried sudo grub-install "(hd0)" sudo update-grub in the terminal and i gave me found Windows 7 (loader) on /dev/sda1 and rebooted but i still wasnt able to boot into windows 7, this is my bootinfoo summary after i typed those two commands http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/1206955/ please help me,I'm at wits end thanks Dimeji

    This is borderline on objective/subjective, but I'm posting it here since I'm more interested in objective facts, without going into too much technical details, than I am in user reviews of LastPass. I've always used offline ways for (password / sensitive data) storage, but lately I keep hearing good things about LastPass. Indeed, it is more practical having it always accessible from every computer you're using without syncing and related problems, but the security aspect still troubles me. How (in a nutshell for dummies) does LastPass keep your data secure / can their employees see your data, and what is your opinion for such storage of more than usual keeping of sensitive data (bank PIN codes, some financial / business related stuff and so on - you know, the things that would practically hurt if lost / phished)? What are your opinions of it, and do you trust it for such? Any bad experiences? If someone for example is sniffing your wifi network, would such data be easier than usual to sniff out?

  • Issues with ganglia and upstart in 13.04

    I'm having an issue with ganglia-monitor and upstart. Just after installing it starts and it cannot be stopped. I tried to solve it following http://upstart.ubuntu.com/cookbook/#expect but I can achieve upstart to track the actual pid of gmond. Assuming the configuration of the init config is wrong i followed direcetions in http://upstart.ubuntu.com/cookbook/#how-to-establish-fork-count in order to try to fix it. As it states a count of 1 means "exec fork" stanza and 2 means "exec daemon" .... gmond gives a count of 8... And of course I can get it to track the actual PID. I haven't found a bug report or something like that. Is there something I missed ? Upstart seems to be failing and the worst thing is that upstart hangs on start/stop and I cannot even uninstall or reconfigure packages.

    I have a Korg Nanokey, and I'd like to make it produce sound in ubuntu. I've read that means I should be using Rosegarden, and that Rosegarden uses JACK, but does not install it. (Although checking out Ubuntu Software Center, apparently some components of JACK are installed by default?) I understand there can be a lot of work setting up JACK without it fighting the default sound server. Can someone give me a step-by-step method for what I need to do to plug in my midi machine and hear music when I press keys as simply as possible (without messing up pulseaudio, ie, so I can still access Skype and ordinary desktop stuff)? I'm fine installing JACK, but I'd like to sandbox it a little if it has the chance of messing up regular desktop.     I'm looking to move my domains away from GoDaddy, but I'm having a tough time finding anyone with comparable features at a (even remotely) similar price. I've looked at the usual suggestions (NameCheap, Gandi.net, etc.), but they all seem to lack many of the GoDaddy feature base. I'm looking for: DNSSEC IPv6 Resolvers (dig pdns01.domaincontrol.com AAAA; etc. ) SSL-Logins by default HTTP-only login cookies No stupid password restrictions Two-factor authentications No DNS record limits Rough DNS statistics (queries/day, etc.) Audit trails GoDaddy has all of these, except two-factor, for $3/month. See http://www.godaddy.com/domains/dns-hosting.aspx I can't seem to find any other registrar that supports even a few of these. Is there a registrar that offers comparable features? Or, barring that, a DNS hosting service that offers similar features? (AWS Route53 doesn't offer DNSSEC or IPv6)

  • Cloud Computing Architecture Patterns: Don’t Focus on the Client

    Normally I try to put topics in the positive in other words "Do this" not "Don't do that". Sometimes its clearer to focus on what *not* to do. Popular development processes often start with screen mockups, or user input descriptions. In a scale-out pattern like Cloud Computing on Windows Azure, that's the wrong place to start. Start with the Data    Instead, I recommend that you start with the data that a process requires. That data might be temporary or persisted, but starting with the data and its requirements helps to define not only the storage engine you need but also drives everything from security to the integrity of the application. For instance, assume the requirements show that the user must enter their phone number, and that this datum is used in a contact management system further down the application chain. For that datum, you can determine what data type you need (U.S. only or International?) the security requirements, whether it needs ACID compliance, how it will be searched, indexed and so on. From one small data point you can extrapolate out your options for storing and processing the data. Here's the interesting part, which begins to break the patterns that we've used for decades: all of the data doesn't have the same requirements. The phone number might be best suited for a list, or an element, or a string, with either BASE or ACID requirements, based on how it is used. That means we don't have to dump everything into XML, an RDBMS, a NoSQL engine, or a flat file exclusively. In fact, one record might use all of those depending on the use-case requirements. Next Is Data Management  With the data defined, we can move on to how to store the data. Again, the requirements now dictate whether we need a full relational calculus or set-based operations, or we can choose another method based on the requirements for the data. And breaking another pattern its OK to store in more than once, in more than one location. We do this all the time for reporting systems and Business Intelligence systems, so this is a pattern we need to think about even for OLTP data. Move to Data Transport How does the data get around? We can use a connection-based method, sending the data along a transport to the storage engine, but in some cases we may want to use a cache, a queue, the Service Bus, or Complex Event Processing. Finally, Data Processing Most RDBMS engines, NoSQL, and certainly Big Data engines not only store data, but can process and manipulate it as well. Its doubtful that you'll calculate that phone number right? Well, if you're the phone company, you most certainly will. And so we see that even once we've chosen the data type, storage and engine, the same element can have different computing requirements based on how it is used. Sure, We Need A Front-End At Some Point Not all data is entered by human hands in fact most data isn't. We don't really need a Graphical User Interface (GUI) we need some way for a GUI to get data into and out of the systems listed earlier.   But when we do need to allow users to enter or examine data, that should be left to the GUI that best fits the device the user has. Ever tried to use an application designed for a web browser on a phone? Or one designed for a tablet on a phone? Its usually quite painful. The siren song of "We'll just write one interface for all devices" is strong, and has beguiled many an unsuspecting architect. But they just don't work out.   Instead, focus on the data, its transport and processing. Create API calls or a message system that allows for resilient transport to the device or interface, and let it do what it does best.
