  • Installing Tomcat on CentOS 5

    Disclaimer: I am not a server admin, I am a windows user that has lead a life of sinful installation wizards and drag and drop I'm attempting to install Tomcat on CentOS 5 hosted by a MediaTemple dedicated virtual server. I basically followed this guide: Installed jpackage and configured the yum.repo.d jpackage file to set enabled=1 Used yum to install java (yum install java) Downloaded the binary distribution of tomcat with "wget http://archive.apache.org/dist/tomcat/tomcat-6/v6.0.14/bin/apache-tomcat-6.0.14.tar.gz" set JAVA_HOME to point at the jdk location I found with "export JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk-1.6.0.0/" I gunzip/untar the Tomcat files and run ./startup.sh to start the Tomcat server. That is supposed to put the Tomcat server at myserver.com:8080 - however, I just get a could not contact host error when I try to browse to it (or when I try 'curl localhost:8080' from SSH) After I type ./startup.sh, here is the console output: [root@myserver bin]# ./startup.sh Using CATALINA_BASE: /root/apache-tomcat-6.0.14 Using CATALINA_HOME: /root/apache-tomcat-6.0.14 Using CATALINA_TMPDIR: /root/apache-tomcat-6.0.14/temp Using JRE_HOME: /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk-1.6.0.0/ [root@myserver bin]# Is there a step I have missed here? Edit: I've now discovered by looking at the log the following error is occuring: Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap

  • Client unable to authenticate when connecting to WCF service

    I have a WCF service hosted in a Windows service. The application is an intranet app, and I have programmatically set the bindings on both the service and the client as: NetTcpBinding aBinding = new NetTcpBinding(SecurityMode.Transport); aBinding.Security.Transport.ClientCredentialType = TcpClientCredentialType.Windows; aBinding.Security.Transport.ProtectionLevel = System.Net.Security.ProtectionLevel.EncryptAndSign; Both the service and client have endpoints configured with SPNs: EndpointAddress = new EndpointAddress(uri, EndpointIdentity.CreateSpnIdentity("Service1")); As far as I know, I have setup the bindings correctly-- and I am usually able to connect to the service just fine. I did however run into a case where on a server running Windows Server 2003 R2, x64, SP2 I get the following exception immediately when the client tries to connect: INNEREXCEPTION -- Exception Message: InvalidCredentialException: Either the target name is incorrect or the server has rejected the client credentials. Stack Trace: at System.Net.Security.NegoState.ProcessAuthentication(LazyAsyncResult lazyResult) at System.Net.Security.NegotiateStream.AuthenticateAsClient(NetworkCredential credential, String targetName, ProtectionLevel requiredProtectionLevel, TokenImpersonationLevel allowedImpersonationLevel) at System.ServiceModel.Channels.WindowsStreamSecurityUpgradeProvider.WindowsStreamSecurityUpgradeInitiator.OnInitiateUpgrade(Stream stream, SecurityMessageProperty& remoteSecurity) I get the exception when I try to connect to the service from another machine in the domain, but if I connect to the service on the same machine running the service it works fine. The hosting service itself is running as a domain user account-- but I have tried running the service as a Local System and Network Service to no avail. I have checked the Local Security Policies for the server and didn't see anything amiss (i.e. 'Access this computer from the network' includes 'Everyone'). Anyone have an idea of what could resolve this? I am wondering if I need to do something in Active Directory with respect to the service's SPN? I have read some about using setspn.exe to register or refresh SPNs, but I haven't needed to do this before. Why would this be working with other configurations but not the one above?

  • Facebook Connect - Using both FBML and PHP Client

    I am doing my second Facebook connect site. On my first site, I used the facebook coonect FBML to sign a user in, then I could access other information via the PHP Client. With this site, using the same exact code, it doesn't seem to be working. I'd like someone to be able to sign in using the Facebook button: <fb:login-button length="long" size="medium" onlogin="facebook_onlogin();"></fb:login-button> After they have logged in, the facebook_onlogin() function makes some AJAX requests to a PHP page which attempts to use the Facebook PHP Client. Here's the code from that page: $facebook = new Facebook('xxxxx API KEY xxxxx', 'xxxxx SECRET KEY xxxxx'); //$facebook->require_login(); ** I DONT WANT THIS LINE!! $userID = $facebook->api_client->users_getLoggedInUser(); if($userID) { $user_details = $facebook->api_client->users_getInfo($userID, 'last_name, first_name'); $firstName = $user_details[0]['first_name']; $lastName = $user_details[0]['last_name']; $this->view->userID = $userID; $this->view->firstName = $firstName; $this->view->lastName = $lastName; } The problem is that the PHP Client thinks I don't have a session key, so the $userID never get set. If I override the $userID with my facebook ID (which I am logged in with) I get this error: exception 'FacebookRestClientException' with message 'A session key is required for calling this method' in C:\wamp\www\mab\application\Facebook\facebookapi_php5_restlib.php:3003 If I uncomment the require_login(), it will get a session ID, but it redirects pages around a lot and breaks my AJAX calls. I am using the same code I successfully did this with on another site. Anyone have any ideas why the PHP client don't know about the session ID after a user has logged in with the connect button? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • Send post request from client to node.js

    In order to learn node.js I have built a very simple guestbook app. There is basically just a comment form and a list of previous comments. Currently the app is client side only and the items are stored within local storage. What I want to do is send the items to node where I will save them using Mongo DB. The problem is I have not yet found a way to establish a connection to send data back and forth the client and node.js using POST requests. What I do now is add listeners to the request and wait for data I send: request.addListener('data', function(chunk) { console.log("Received POST data chunk '"+ chunk + "'."); }); On the client side I send the data using a simple AJAX request: $.ajax({ url: '/', type: 'post', dataType: 'json', data: 'test' }) This does not work at all in them moment. It could be that I don't know what url to place in the AJAX request 'url' parameter. Or the whole thing might just be the build using the wrong approach. I have also tried implementing the method described here, but also with no success. It would really help if anyone can share some tips on how to make this work (sending POST request from the client side to node and back) or share any good tutorials. thanks.

    I am a seasoned python,java,...other programmer having a (fairly advanced) mathematical education (so I do understand statistics and data mining, for example) . For various reasons I am thinking to switch to SAS/BI area (I am naming SAS because it might be, for me, a possible way to enter in BI). My question, for whoever might have an experience of both: is it, in BI current state, worth it? I mean, the days of big ideas in BI for business seem to be over (there are the APIs, managers think that they know what you can do with them), and my mathematical background might turn out to be superflous. Also, the big companies now have their data organized, have their BI procedures well established, and trying to analyze it from a different standpoint might not be what they want. Another difference is: while in Java etc. development one codes and codes and codes, I don't know if this is the case for BI; in fact, from what I read on the net, a BI (or OLAP, ...etc) developer, in a big organization, is usually in a state of standby, and does in fact little coding. Any opinions, and in particular strong opinions, will be appreciated.

  • Oracle and Cavium to work together on Java SE 8 on 64-bit ARMv8

    We have been working for some time on a standard Oracle JDK 8 port to the upcoming introduction of 64-bit servers based on the new ARMv8 micro architecture. At ARM TechCon 2013 in Santa Clara, California, we announced a roadmap with an expected GA in 2015. This project is going very well and is ahead of schedule. We will soon be at the point where we will make binaries available outside of Oracle - first in a managed beta program with select customers/partners, and sometime during the fall of 2014 as a public early access program. Unless something changes, we are looking at a early 2015 GA. We should be able to share a detailed ramp down and GA plan by JavaOne 2014. One of the things we (obviously) need to produce a high-quality port is hardware for development and QA. We are therefore happy to announce that we will be collaborating with Cavium on this project. Cavium has been a supporter of the Java ecosystem for a long time and we have numerous joint customers running various Java versions on Cavium MIPS and ARM-based hardware. Cavium has now agreed to provide us with development hardware and engineering resources so that we can certify and optimize the initial Oracle JDK 8 release on Cavium's ThunderX hardware. This is expected to improve quality and performance of JDK 8 on ARMv8 in general, as well as on Cavium's hardware. The receiving side however doesn't get the client-event. I was expecting my breakpoint in the callback to trigger... but it doesn't. I'm not even sure if a GtkWindow can receive a client-event... from past experience on X11 I thought it was pretty much the same as any other GtkWidget in that respect. Maybe on the win32 platform it's kinda different. But still I'd like to be able to get this working.

    Here's what I'm trying to run on Android 1.6: package com.healthlogger.test; public class AllTests extends TestSuite { public static Test suite() { return new TestSuiteBuilder(AllTests.class).includeAllPackagesUnderHere().build(); } } and: package com.healthlogger.test; public class RecordTest extends AndroidTestCase { /** * Ensures that the constructor will not take a null data tag. */ @Test(expected=AssertionFailedError.class) public void testNullDataTagInConstructor() { Record r = new Record(null, Calendar.getInstance(), "Data"); fail("Failed to catch null data tag."); } } The main project is HealthLogger. These are run from a separate test project (HealthLoggerTest). HealthLogger and jUnit4 are in HealthLoggerTest's build path. jUnit4 is also in HealthLogger's build path. The class "Record" is located in com.healthlogger. Commenting out the "@Test..." and "Record r..." lines allows this test to run. When they are uncommented, I get a VerifyError exception. I am severely blocked by this; why is it happening? Oracle just released a Security Alert to announce the availability of fixes for two vulnerabilities (CVE-2010-0886 and CVE-2010-0887) affecting Oracle Java SE and Oracle Java For Business. Both vulnerabilities only affect Java when running in a 32-bit web browser. These vulnerabilities are not present in Java running on servers or standalone Java desktop applications and do not impact any Oracle server based software. The first vulnerability (CVE-2010-0886) affects the Java Deployment Toolkit (version 6 update 10 through 19) on Windows only. The second vulnerability (CVE-2010-0887) affects the Java Plug-in (version 6 update 18 and 19) on Windows, Solaris and Linux. Both vulnerabilities may allow an attacker to run commands on the user's system with the privileges of the user, whose system may have become compromised by visiting a malicious web site. Oracle rated the severity of both vulnerabilities with a CVSS Base Score of 10.0 because many Windows users grant themselves administrative privileges. However, on other platforms, or for Windows users with limited privileges, the CVSS Base Score is only 7.5, because a successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities cannot result in a full compromise of the affected system.   • Migrating Forms to Java or ADF, the truth and no FUD

    The question about migrating Forms to Java (or ADF or APEX) comes up time and time again.  I wanted to pull some core information together in a single blog post to address this question. The first question I always ask is "WHY" - Forms may still be a viable option for you so "if it ain't broke don't fix it".  Bottom line is whatever anyone tells you, its going to be a considerable effort and cost to migrate from Forms to something else so the business is going to want to know WHY you spend all those hard earned dollars switching from something that might have been serving you quite adequately. Second point, if you are going to switch, I would encourage you NOT to look at building a Forms clone.  So many times I see people trying to build an ADF application and EXACTLY mimic the Forms model - ADF is NOT a Forms clone.  You should be building to the sweet spot of your target technology, not your 20 year old client/server technology.  This is also the chance for the business to embrace change, so maybe look at new processes, channels and technology options that weren't available when you first developed your Forms applications.     Hi, I have a WCF service with three methods. Two of the methods return custom types (these work as expected), and the third method takes a custom type as a parameter and returns a boolean. When calling the third method via a PHP soap client it returns an 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object' exception. End Function PHP client call: $client-Add(array('param'=array( 'PropertyA' = 1, 'PropertyB' = 2, 'PropertyC' = "2009-01-01" ))); The WCF service works fine with a .Net client but I'm new to PHP and can't get this to work. I want to open the email client, and give the user the opportunity to edit the list of users or the email body. I did some searching, and according to here: http://www.sightspecific.com/~mosh/WWW_FAQ/multrec.html It's apparently against the RFC spec to put multiple comma-delimited recipients in a mailto link. However, that's the way everybody else seems to be doing it. What exactly is the modern stance on this? Anyhow, I found the following two sites: http://2ality.blogspot.com/2009/02/generate-emails-with-mailto-urls-and.html http://www.megasolutions.net/python/invoke-users-standard-mail-client-64348.aspx which seem to suggest solutions using urllib.parse (url.parse.quote for me), and webbrowser.open. I tried the sample code from the first link (2ality.blogspot.com), and that worked fine, and opened my default mail client. However, when I try to use the code in my own module, it seems to open up my default browser, for some weird reason. No funny text in the address bar, it just opens up the browser. The email_incorrect_phone_numbers() function is in the Employees class, which contains a dictionary (employee_dict) of Employee objects, which themselves have a number of employee attributes (sn, givenName, mail etc.).   • Reasonable technological solutions to create CRM using .NET eventually Java

    My background(If it's too long, just skip it please ; ) ): I am Java programmer(because of demand): mostly teacher for other students, worked on few thesis for others, but during my journey I discovered that .NET and Microsoft's tools are on at least two levels higher than Java and its tools so I want to learn more about them. I programmed little bit on Windows Phone(NFC Tags, TCP Clients, guitar tuner using internal microphone, simple RSS), used WPF, integrated WPF with Windows Forms, Apple Bonjour(.NET), I have expierience with IP cameras and with unusal problems, I learn Android, but I don't like it at all. Problem: I was asked by my friend to create CRM for small new company. There will maximum 20 workers in the company working at computers in few cities in the country(Poland). They just want to store contracts with the clients and client's data. I am not sure what exacly they do but probably sell apartments so there will be at most few thousands of contracts to store in far future. Now I am totally new to CRM but I want to learn. I have few questions: Should the data be stored on a server in the company's building running 24/7 or cloud. If cloud which one? Should I use ASPX or WPF. I read one topic about it but as far as I know aspx sites can be viewed from every device with internet browser: tablets, phones(Android, WP, iOS) and computers at the same time- so the job is done once and for all(Am I right?), I don't know nothing about aspx. Can WPF be also used in manner that does not need to port it for other platforms?
