    Before joining Oracle as Product Manager for WebLogic and GlassFish for Latin America, at the beggining of this year I proposed two talks to JavaOne USA that I had been presenting in Brazil for quite a while. One of them I presented last year at ApacheCon in Vancouver, Canada as well in JavaOne Brazil. In June I got the news that they were accepted as Alternate Sessions. Surprisingly enough, few weeks later and at the same time I joined Oracle, I received the news that they were officially accepted and put on schedule. Tomorrow I'll be flying to San Francisco, to my first JavaOne in the United States, and I wanted to share with you what I'm going to present there. My two sessions are these ones: Wed, 10/03, 4:30pm - CON2989 Leverage Enterprise Integration Patterns with Apache Camel and TwitterOn this one, you will be introducted to the Apache Camel framework that I had been talking about in Brazil at conferences, before joining Oracle, and to a component I contributed to integrate with Twitter. Also, you will have a preview of a new component I've been working on to integrate Camel with the Oracle Coherence distributed cache. Thu, 10/04, 3:30pm - CON3395 How Scala, Wicket, and Java EE Can Improve Web DevelopmentThis one I've been working on for quite a while. It was based on an idea to have an architecture that could be as agile as frameworks and technologies such as Ruby on Rails, PHP or Python, for rapid web development. You will be introduced to the Apache Wicket framework, another Apache project I enjoy working with and gave lots of talks at Brazilian conferences, including JavaOne Brazil, JustJava, QCon SP, and The Developers Conference. You will also be introduced to the Scala language and how to create nice DSLs to boost productiveness. And last but not least, the Java EE 6 platform, that offers an awesome improvement from previous versions with its CDI, JPA, EJB3 and JAX-RS features for web development.   • URLLoader.load() issue when using the same URLRequest

    Hello, I have an issue with my eventListeners with the URLLoader, but this issue happens in IE, not in FF. public function getUploadURL():void { var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest(); request.url = getPath(); request.method = URLRequestMethod.GET; _loader = new URLLoader(); _loader.dataFormat = URLLoaderDataFormat.TEXT; _loader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, getBaseURL); _loader.load(request); } private function getBaseURL(event:Event):void { _loader.removeEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, getBaseURL); } The issue is that my getBaseURL gets executed automatically after I have executed the code at least once, but that is the case only in IE. What happens is I call my getUploadURL, I make sure the server sends an event that will result in an Event.COMPLETE, so the getBaseURL gets executed, and the listener is removed. If I call the getUploadURL method and put the wrong path, I do not get an Event.COMPLETE but some other event, and getBaseURL should not be executed. That is the correct behavior in FireFox. In IE, it looks like the load() method does not actually call the server, it jumps directly to the getBaseURL() for the Event.COMPLETE. I checked the willTrigger() and hasEventListener() on _loader before assigning the new URLLoader, and it turns out the event has been well removed. I hope I make sense, I simplified my code. To sum up quickly: in FireFox it works well, but in IE, the first call will work but the second call won't really call the .load() method; it seems it uses the previously stored result from the first call.   • [Adobe Air] Can I catch a mouseUp event of an mx:Window that did not fire hte mouseDown?

    Hi, In an AIR application, I have one mx:TileList with several images. What I need to do is let the user drag and drop one of the images on the desktop, giving a feeling of a desktop widget. Firstly I tried to implement this using dragStart etc, but in the end I think it is easier to handle mouseDown and mouseUp on the TileList. In general the whole setup works as desired. When a mouseDown is detected on the TileList, I create a transparent mx:Window containing the corresponding image, and call the startMove() on the Window to simulate a dragging behavior. If I release the mouse, the Window stops moving as desired. My problem is that now I want some visual feedback during dragging. It works while the Window is moving, however I can't find a way to stop it when the user releases the mouse. The mouseUp is not fired from the TileList, nor from the s:WindowedApplication. I also tried to add a listener to the Window itself, but still with no luck.   • How to format individual DropDownlist Items (color, etc.) during onDataBinding event

    Hi, I have a basic DropDownList bound to a ObjectDataSource: <asp:DropDownList ID="DropDownList1" runat="server" AutoPostBack="True" DataSourceID="objDataSource1" DataTextField="FieldName" DataValueField="FieldID" /> The DataTable from which it receives the DataTextField and DataValueField values also returns some other interesting information about the records. Say Active = Y/N for simplicity's sake. What I'd like to do is to set the background-color property of the DropDownList Item based on that Active field in the DataSource results. Further, I'd like to do this "in the same pass" as when the DropDownList is bound to the data. So my guess is that it has to happen during OnDataBinding. Things I already know/tried: I could go back and loop through the DropDownList items later. But it would involve embedding loops and re-visiting the DataTable rows and it just seems inefficient int row; for (row = 0; row < DropDownList1.Items.Count - 1; row++) { [[if this row = that data row]] DropDownList1.Items[row].[[DoStuffHere, etc.]] } We already do stuff like this with the GridView OnRowDataBound event, by accessing the GridViewRowEventArgs e. What I seem to be missing is an "OnDropDownListItemBound" event, so to speak. Hope I've been clear and concise. Seems as though it should be easy...

It will also be available via the Oracle Software Delivery Cloud in about 1 week. This is a maintenance release that includes a few new features and fixes a number of bugs.   • Javascript to fire event when a key pressed on the Ajax Toolkit Combo box.

    I have the following drop down list which is using the Ajax Toolkit to provide a combo box <cc1:ComboBox ID="txtDrug" runat="server" style="font-size:8pt; width:267px;" Font-Size="8pt" DropDownStyle="DropDownList" AutoCompleteMode="SuggestAppend" AutoPostBack="True" ontextchanged="txtDrug_TextChanged" /> Now I need to load this up with approx 7,000 records which takes a considerable time, and effects the response times when the page is posted back and forth. The code which loads these records is as follows; dtDrugs = wsHelper.spGetAllDrugs(); txtDrug.DataValueField = "pkDrugsID"; txtDrug.DataTextField = "drugName"; txtDrug.DataSource = dtDrugs; txtDrug.DataBind(); However if I could get an event to fire when a letter is typed instead of having to load 7000 records it is reduced to less than 50 in most instances. I think this can be done in Javascript. So the question is how can I get an event to fire such that when the form starts there is nothing in the drop down, but as soon as a key is pressed it searches for those records starting with that letter. The .Net side of things I'm sure about - it is the Javascript I'm not. Thanks in advance

  • Coordinating typedefs and structs in std::multiset (C++)

    I'm not a professional programmer, so please don't hesitate to state the obvious. My goal is to use a std::multiset container (typedef EventMultiSet) called currentEvents to organize a list of structs, of type Event, and to have members of class Host occasionally add new Event structs to currentEvents. The structs are supposed to be sorted by one of their members, time. I am not sure how much of what I am trying to do is legal; the g++ compiler reports (in "Host.h") "error: 'EventMultiSet' has not been declared." Here's what I'm doing: // Event.h struct Event { public: bool operator < ( const Event & rhs ) const { return ( time < rhs.time ); } double time; int eventID; int hostID; }; // Host.h ... void calcLifeHist( double, EventMultiSet * ); // produces compiler error ... void addEvent( double, int, int, EventMultiSet * ); // produces compiler error // Host.cpp #include "Event.h" ... // main.cpp #include "Event.h" ... typedef std::multiset< Event, std::less< Event > > EventMultiSet; EventMultiSet currentEvents; EventMultiSet * cePtr = &currentEvents; ... Major questions Where should I include the EventMultiSet typedef? Are my EventMultiSet pointers obviously problematic? Is the compare function within my Event struct (in theory) okay?
