Which of the following three options would you choose for a column name in a SQL Server table, and why?
YearToDateWages
YTDWages
YtdWages
Follow up:
SSN
Ssn
SocialSecurityNumber
I'm using LINQ2SQL and I want to compare two tables and select all rows that are missing from one tables (based upon one of the column values).
In standard SQL I would write this as:
SELECT
FirstName,
LastName,
RefId,
Email
FROM
Users_ActiveDirectory AS ADU
WHERE
NOT EXISTS
(
SELECT
U.RefId
FROM
Users AS U
WHERE
U.RefID = ADU.RefId
)
However I'm not sure how to achieve the same result using LINQ2SQL?
Hi,
I have an app and I have come to a point where I need to build a
sql statement up dynamically.
Is there a way to execute it and return a type that has not been defined
via the designer with Linq2Sql??

I'm performing a SQL query through hibernate, which looks like:
SELECT thi
FROM track_history_items thi
JOIN artists art
ON thi.artist_id = art.id
WHERE thi.type = "TrackBroadcast"
GROUP BY art.name
ORDER thi.createdAt DESC
but I'm getting the message that 'Node to traverse cannot be null!'. Anyone know what could be causing this?
--EDIT--
I'm pretty sure that this problem is being caused by the possibility of artist_id to be null. However, I can't prevent this, so can I just skip the rows track_history_item rows which have a null artist_id?
I have been trying to solve this problem for a lot of days. But wouldn't. Please help me.
I need a SQL to list product_code, product_name, qty_sold, last_order_date for all the products that have been sold within a date range sorted by the number of quantity sold.
My Table structure:
tbl_product(product_id,product_code,product_name)
tbl_order_detail(order_item_id,order_id,product_id,quantity)
tbl_order(order_id,order_date)
I am using the below statement to generate age of a person in Oracle SQL and my question is below.
SELECT TO_NUMBER(TO_CHAR(CURRENT_DATE,'YYYY'))-TO_NUMBER(TO_CHAR(BIRTH_DATE,'YYYY')) FROM NAME WHERE NAME_ID =NAME_ID
This statement is only correct upto so far that I need a statement which could count months and even days in order to get the age.
Please explain, in plain English, what question this SQL query answers:
SELECT SUM(price) FROM Room r, Hotel h
WHERE r.hotelNo = h.hotelNo and hotelName = 'Paris Hilton' and
roomNo NOT IN
(SELECT roomNo FROM Booking b, Hotel h
WHERE (dateFrom <= CURRENT_DATE AND
dateTo >= CURRENT_DATE) AND
b.hotelNo = h.hotelNo AND hotelName = 'Paris Hilton');
Reading about both Linq to SQL and Entity Framework I have developed the impression that EF is more suitable for apps that get data from multiple data sources.
But as I am reading about MVC2 models I see an example where EF is more loosely coupled with your data model.
If I have to add or remove some columns from a table then what is involved in updating my model or DAL with each of these implementations?
How can I translate the following SQL query into a named_scope?
select users.*, sum(total_quantity * total_price) as points_spent
from orders
join users on users.id = orders.user_id
where pay_type = 'points'
group by user_id
order by points_spent desc
Thanks!
Hello,
We have an .NET client app working against SQL Server 2005 (clustered), do I need to do something special in the client app to make it cluster aware?
Thanks.
Using Linq to SQL:
if(!parentlist.childlist.Contains(row1))
parentlist.childlist.Add(row1);
else
How do I update the required childlist row with row1? Each row of the child list has a unique id.
parentlist implements IEnumerable and childlist is IList.
Hi,
Can anyone please help me?
I am having bunch of .sql files. I want to parse (validate) those files before executing them on server.
I have many online sites which parse the code. But I want to parse the code using C#.
So please can you guide. If there is any tool, dll I need to use.
I just want to parse the file and not execute it
Convention has it that table names should be the singular of the entity that they store attributes of.
I dislike any T-SQL that requires square brackets around names, but I have renamed a Users table to the singular, forever sentencing those using the table to sometimes have to use brackets.
My gut feel is that it is more correct to stay with the singular, but my gut feel is also that brackets indicate undesirables like column names with spaces in them etc.
Should I stay, or should I go?
I need to convert a number which gives decimals in factored format in to decimals,
i.e. 11.16 is 11.5 in decimal. This is because 16 is in base of 32 and 11.16 should be read as 11+16/32 = 11.5
I get 11.16 as a string and I need to change it to 11.5 as numeric in MS SQL(2005) database.
Any shorter way of doing this rather than splitting strings,converting to numerics,maths,convert to string, concatenate and then convert to numeric?
Hi
i try to add persistance to my workflow using sql service persistance and all i know is how to add Persistence Service to the Workflow Runtime using code in the host app but what if i have the workflow as web service how can i add persistance..???
Thanks
imagine 2 tables (rather stupid example, but for the sake of simplicity, here you go)
words
word_id
letters
letter
word_id
how can i select all words while selecting all letters that belong to a word and concatenating them to said word? it is important that the letters are returned in the order they appear in the table, as the letter may be mixed into other words, but the order is correct.
|word_id| |word_id|letter|
+-------+ +-------+------+
| 1| | 1| H|
| 2| | 2| B|
| 2| Y|
| 1| I|
| 2| E|
should return
|word_id|word|
+-------+----+
| 1| HI|
| 2| BYE|
any way to accomplish this in pure SQL?
Hi
Is there any way to massively alter primary keys(uid) to all tables with no primary primary keys in sql server database ? I have a lot of tables and most of them don not have primary keys.
Thanks in advance.

Is there a way I can set up combo box in an access form to list all the available sql servers and then an associated combo box to list the related databases? Can this be done in access?
I am trying to set the default value for a new column I just added. In properties I am trying to set 'Default Value or Binding' to a simple XML along the lines of: <root><title>Welcome</title><body>Thank you for your time.</body></root>
However, when I click away, I get "sql error validating the default for column," I set this value in other numerical columns and it worked fine. What gives?
I have a very simple INSERT statement being executed from a PHP script running on a Linux Apache web server. I can run the query fine from within SQL Management Studio and it normally runs fine from PHP as well. However, every once in awhile I get an error message from my PHP script that the query failed and the mssql_get_last_message() function returns 'The statement has been terminated'.
What sources can cause this message to be returned from MSSQL?
