• Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80040e14' Could not find stored procedure

  I am migrating a classic ASP web app to new servers. The database back end is migrating from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2008, and the app is moving from Win2000 x86 to Win2003R2 x64. I am getting the above error on every single stored procedure call within the application. I have verified: Yes, the SQL user is set up, using correct username and password Yes, the SQL user has execute permissions on the stored procedures in the database Yes, I have updated the TypeLib references to the new UUID Yes, I have logged into the database via SSMS with the SQL user id and it can see and execute the stored procedures just fine in SSMS, but not from the web app. Yes, the SQL user has the database set as its default database. The most frustrating thing is it works fine on the DEV server, but not on the production server. I have gone through every IIS setting 5 or 6 times and the web app is set up precisely the same in both environments. The only difference is the database server name in the connection string (DEV vs prod) EDIT: I have also tried pointing the prod web box at the dev database server and get the same error so I'm fairly sure the issue isn't on the database side.

• Guessess of my session value conflicts

  I have a asp.net web form which will submit information to come as emails. Whenever user fill the form and click on submit button,the information user entered will be sent as email. This web form has 4 page. but the web form will not use all 4 page on all requests. if the user select a particular value in first page, the form will bypass the 3rd page and go the last 4th page(like...page1,2,4). IF it is any other values selected in the first page. form will navigate as page1,2,3,4. So now my problem is when multiple users access the same website, the value in the first page get combines from different users and the form will act abnormally.Sometime it will bypass sometimes it will not bypass the page3 Show below is the variable decalrations: Public strRoleType As String = String.Empty Protected Shared isAreaSelected As Integer = 0 Protected Shared isStoreSelected As Integer = 0 Protected Shared isHeadOfficeSelected As Integer = 0 Protected Shared isRegionSelected As Integer = 0 I guess the problem is with strRoleType variable whether it is getting values from different users. Do any have any work around?

• Run ajax scripts on page with navigating with ajax?

  I got a bit of an issue in my ASP.NET MVC project. I have a chat div in the bottom right corner (like facebook), and of course I do not want this to reload when navigating to all my navigation is ajax. The problem I am facing is that I use the following code on the top of the view page: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { $('#divTS').hide(); $('a#showTS').click(function() { $('#divTS').slideToggle(400); return false; }); }); </script> The problem is that this code is only loaded with ajax and does not seem to fire? I would like to run all scripts in the newly loaded view, just as if I hadn't navigated with ajax. I cannot put this in the site.master as it only loads once and then probably the divs I am trying to hide doesn't exist. Is there a good way to run scripts in the ajax-loaded div?

• CssClass and default images in ServerContol

  I'm writing a ServerControl in ASP.NET 3.5, and I'm exposing CssClass, so the user can manipulate the visual appearance of the control. My problem is that I want to establish reasonable defaults, so that the user doesn't have to configure CSS unless he wants to change the defaults. My specific problem is that my control is emitting html divs, that need to display background images. I want the user to be able to specify a different image in CSS, but I want to display a default background image, and I can't make that work. The entire server control is emitted as a div, with a class name set to the value the user provided in CssClass. The div that needs the background image is enclosed within this outer div, with a class name of its own. I am currently setting the background image in CSS on the page that contains the control: <style type="text/css"> .cssClass .innerDiv { background-image: url("http://...."); } </style> With this the proper image is drawn. But if it's not there, no image is drawn. What I want is for the ServerControl to emit some CSS that will define these image urls, that would be over-ridden by any css that was added by the user, and for that default CSS to include URLs to images embedded in the ServerControl's assembly. And I'm not sure of how to do either. Nor, for that matter, am I sure this is the best approach. Any ideas?

• Using Active Directory to authenticate users in a WWW facing website

  Hi, I'm looking at starting a new web app which needs to be secure (if for no other reason than that we'll need PCI accreditation at some point). From previous experience working with PCI (on a domain), the preferred method is to use integrated windows authentication which is then passed all the way through the app to the database. This allows for better auditing as well as object-level permissions (ie an end user can't read the credit card table). There are advantages in that even if someone compromises the webserver, they won't be able to glean any additional information from the database. Also, the webserver isn't storing any database credentials (beyond perhaps a simple anonymous user with very few permissions) So, now I'm looking at the new web app which will be on the public internet. One suggestion is to have a Active Directory server and create windows accounts on the AD for each user of the site. These users will then be placed into the appropriate NT groups to decide which DB permissions they should have (and which pages they can access). ASP already provides the AD membership provider and role provider so this should be fairly simple to implement. There are a number of questions around this - Scalability, reliability, etc... and I was wondering if there is anyone out there with experience of this approach or, even better, some good reasons why to do it / not to do it.   Hello everyone, I'm debugging an HttpModule with an ASP.NET response filter. This dynamically rewrites portions of rendered SharePoint WCM pages. The publishing pages render fine in SP2007 on both Server 2003 and Server 2008. However the equivalent pages fail to render in SP2010 B2 on Server 2008 R2 / IIS7. The following error is returned by ASP.NET: Post cache substitution is not compatible with modules in the IIS integrated pipeline that modify the response buffers. Either a native module in the pipeline has modified an HTTP_DATA_CHUNK structure associated with a managed post cache substitution callback, or a managed filter has modified the response. This error is consistent with KB #2014472. However: Caching is disabled for anonymous & authenticated access at the site collection level There do not appear to be any Substitution controls on either the master or layout page The IIS 7 settings are all stock default This is happening e.g. on /pages/default.aspx. It seems likely I'm missing something cache related...but what?

  I've been trying to create a specialised CMS, as none of the current open-source ones fit my needs for this project. I did my research on Google, tried multiple times but haven't got very far with this project. I'm trying to create a CMS for a TV/episode guide which is similar to this: (for some that don't have the :// just copy-and-paste and add it after http in the URL) http library.digiguide.com/lib/programmenextshowing/Police%2C+Camera%2C+Action!-12578 (one such example) - where records expire and delete from the database after expiration. I'm not sure how to go about this successfully, anyone got any advice? (Note:Although the linked site runs in ASP.NET, it's the design and feel of it I'm trying to emulate, except in PHP. I've managed to emulate that site's design, but with my own tweaks to it.)

  I am using Entity Framework 5 code first and ASP.NET MVC 3. I am struggling to get a child object's child object to populate. Below are my classes.. How do I specify that each child object must include the ChildRelationshipType object like what I did above?

• OutOfMemoryException

  I have an application that is pretty memory hungry. It holds a large amount of data in some big arrays. I have recently been noticing the occasional OutOfMemoryException. These OutOfMemoryExceptions are occurring long before my application (ASP.Net) has used up the 800mb available to it. I have track the issue down to the area of code where the array is resized. The array contains a structure that is 74bytes in size. (I know that you shouldn't create struct's that are bigger than 16bytes), but this application is a port from a Vb6 application). I have tried changing the struct to a class and this appears to have fixed the problem for now. I think the reason that changing to a class solves the problem has to do with the fact that when using a struct and the array is resized, a segment of memory that is large enough to store the new array needs to be reserved (e.g. (currentArraySize + increaseBySize)*74) cannot be found. This leads to the OutOfMemoryException. This isn't the case with a class as each element of the array only needs 8bytes to store a pointer to the new object. Is my thinking correct here?

• How do you localize/internationalize an MVC Controller when using a SQL based localization provider?

  Hopefully this isn't too silly of a question. In MVC there appears to be plenty of localization support in the views. Once I get to the controller, however, it becomes murky. Using meta:resourcekey="blah" is out, same with <%$ Resources:PageTitle.Text%. ASP.NET MVC - Localization Helpers -- suggested extensions for the Html helper classes like Resource(this Controller controller, string expression, params object[] args). Similarly, Localize your MVC with ease suggested a slightly different extension like Localize(this System.Web.UI.UserControl control, string resourceKey, params object[] args) None of these approaches works while in a controller. I put together the below function and I'm using the controllers full class name as my VirtualPath. But I'm new to MVC and assume there's a better way. public static string Localize (System.Type theType, string resourceKey, params object[] args) { string resource = (HttpContext.GetLocalResourceObject(theType.FullName, resourceKey) ?? string.Empty).ToString(); return mergeTokens(resource, args); } Thoughts? • Deployments and TFS, general questions

  SOX requires that we have a separate group deploy our ASP.NET web to production. Currently, that group has access to our current code repository in VSS and uses VSS to deploy code that has been checked into VSS. How are deployments typically done for web applications? As a developer, I have used the Deploy function in Visual Studio to deploy code to a network share which corresponds to a IS virtual folder, but I don't think we can expect that the deployment group will be purchasing a copy of Visual Studio just to do deployments. We could check the code into TFS, but what is the minimum software that that group would need to perform the deployment? Would a Team Explorer Client Access suffice? I am aware that Team System has functionality to automate the building of an application. Do people typically deploy to Production by copying aspx and dlls files from the QA environment to production or do you normally deploy from TFS or even VS directly? It seems to me that the preferred approach would be to deploy from the QA environment, since that is the environment that must have been approved for release or that those files should be checked into TFS and the deployed from TFS, assuming you can deploy from TFS. What confuses me is whether bin (binary) files that are local to the project-do they go into TFS? Is so, doesn't this create problems for other developers in that only 1 developers-the one with the binary checked - can actually debug because debugging requires write access to the binaries? Does this mean that the binaries shouldn't be checked into TFS? But eventually, if you deploy from TFS, the binaries HAVE to be added to TFS. Are they added as a separate (compiled) application node? If so,m this sounds real ugly. I would assume not. How does one ensure that the binaries match the source code that we mark with a particular version number? Obviously, I'm clueless. Can someone give me a general idea of how you handle version control and deployments in particular using TFS?

  C# allows a reserved word to be used as a property name via the ampersand. e.g. // In ASP.NET MVC, we use @class to define // the css class attribute for some HtmlHelper methods. var htmlObject = new { readonly = "readonly", @class = "ui-state-highlight" } I want to do the same in JavaScript. e.g. function makeGrid(grid, pager) { grid.jqGrid({ caption: 'Configurations', colNames: ['Id', 'Name'], colModel: [ { name: 'Id', index: 'Id' }, { name: 'Name', index: 'Name', editable: true, editoptions: { readonly: 'readonly', class: 'FormElement readonly' } }, ], pager: pager, url: 'www.example.com/app/configurations") %>', editurl: 'www.example.com/app/configurations/edit") %>' }).navGrid(pager, { edit: true, add: false, del: false, search: false }, {}, {}, {}); } Note class: 'FormElement readonly' is supposed to set the css class value on jqGrid's edit dialog, but IE errors out on the reserved word. • jQuery show based on checkbox value at page load.

  I have an ASP MVC web app and on one of the pages there is a set of Main checkboxes with sub-checkboxes underneath them. The sub-checkboxes should only show up when the corresponding main checkbox is checked. I have the following code that works just fine as long as none of the checkboxes are checked when the page loads. $("input[id$=Suffix]").change(function() { prefix = this.id; if (!$(this).hasClass("checked")) { $("tr[id^=" + prefix + "]").show(); $(this).addClass("checked"); } else { $("tr[id^=" + prefix + "]").hide(); $(this).removeClass("checked"); } }); Now I need to check a database for the values of the main checkboxes. I get the values, and can check the boxes on page load. But when the page comes up, the sub-checkboxes are not displayed when the main checkbox is checked. Also, if the main checkbox is checked when the page loads, the sub-checkboxes are only displayed when the main chcekbox is unchecked (obviously because the above function only acts on .change()). What do you all suggest I try? If you need further explanation feel free to ask. edit: btw, all of this is in $(document).ready()

• Membership Provider users in different tables

  I have an existing database with users and administrators in different tables. I am rewriting an existing website in ASP.net and need to decide - should I merge the two tables into one users table and just have one provider, OR leave the tables separated and have two different providers. Administrators, they need the ability to create, edit and delete users. I am thinking that the membership/profile provider way of editing users (i.e. System.Web.Profile.ProfileBase pro = System.Web.Profile.ProfileBase.Create("User1"); pro.Initialize("User1", true); txtEmail.Text = pro["SecondaryEmail"].ToString(); is the best way to edit users because the provider handles it? You cannot use this if you have two separate providers? (because they are both looking at different tables). Or should I make a whole lot of methods to edit the users for the administrators? UPDATE: Making a custom membership provider look at both tables is fine, but then what about the profile provider? The profile provider GetPropertyValues and SetPropertyValues would be going on the same set of properties for users and admins. Mike

• SWFUpload Authentication

  I am using SWFUpload to do file uploading in a ASP.NET MVC 1.0 website. It is working fine, but I am not able to authenticate the upload method. The HttpContext.User.Identity.Name returns an empty string. I am assuming this is because the Flash movie is making the post. I am also using the wrapper provided here: http://blog.codeville.net/2008/11/24/jquery-ajax-uploader-plugin-with-progress-bar/. The controller action below gets fired, but as mentiond above the user object is not passed. Any help is appreciated! • Static variables and long running thread on IIS 7.5

  Hello people. Help me solve next problem. I have ASP .NET MVC2 application. I run it on IIS 7.5. In one page user clicks button and handler for this button sends request to server (jquery.ajax). At server action in controller starts new thread (it makes long time import): var thread = new Thread(RefreshCitiesInDatabase); thread.Start(); State of import is available in static variable. New thread changes value of variable in the begin of work. User can check state of import too with the help of this variable, which is used in view. And user sees import's state. When I start this function few minutes everything is okey. On page I see right state of import, quantity of imported records is changed, I see changes in logs. But after few minutes begin troubles. When I refresh page with import state sometimes I see that import is okey but sometimes I see page with default values about import (like application is just started), but after that again I can see page with normal import's state. I tried to attach Visual Studio to IIS process and debug application. But when request comes to controller sometimes static variables have right values and sometimes they have default values (static int has 0, static string has "" etc.). Tell me what I do wrong.   What is the best ASP.NET MVC pattern for paging data when the data is filtered by form criteria? Currently, when I click the search button this action is called: [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult Search(MemberSearchForm formSp, int? pageIndex, string sortExpression) {} That is perfect for the initial display of the results in the table. But I want to have page number links or sort expression links re-post the current form data (the user entered it the first time - persisted because it is returned as viewdata), along with extra route params 'pageIndex' or 'sortExpression', Can an ActionLink or RouteLink (which I would use for page numbers) post the form to the url they specify? <%= Html.RouteLink("page 2", "MemberSearch", new { pageIndex = 1 })%> At the moment they just do a basic redirect and do not post the form values so the search page loads fresh. In regular old web forms I used to persist the search params (MemberSearchForm) in the ViewState and have a GridView paging or sorting event reuse it.

I'm able to merge the documents, but some of my formatting is missing (namely the fonts and images).   I am sending mails (in asp.net ,c#), having a template in text file (.txt) like below User Name :<User Name> Address : <Address>. In that case i have to read out and find the word <Salary>. In other words, I have to find all the words, that are located with the angle brackets (<). How do I do that?
