  Im using Microsoft SQL Server which I think is T-SQL or ANSI SQL. I want to search a database with a string. The matches that fit the begging of the string should come first then sort alphabetically. I.e. If the table contains FOO, BAR and RAP a search for the string 'R' should yield: RAP BAR In that order. Here is my attempt: SELECT Name FROM MyTable WHERE (Name LIKE '%' + @name + '%') ORDER BY (IF(Name LIKE @name + '%',1,0)) The error message is: "must declare scalar variable @name"

• Invoke private method with interface as argument

  Hi, I've been attempting to invoke a private method whose argument is a parameter and I can't quite seem to get it right. Here's kind of how the code looks so far: public class TestClass { public TestClass(){ } private void simpleMethod( Map<String, Integer> testMap) { //code logic } } Then I attempt to use this to invoke the private method: //Hashmap Map <String, Integer> testMap = new HashMap <String, Integer>(); //method I want to invoke Method simpleMethod = TestClass.class.getDeclaredMethod("simpleMethod", Map.class); simpleMethod.setAccessible(true); simpleMethod.invoke(testClassObject, testMap); //Throws an IllegalArgumentException As you can see, it throws an IllegalArgumentException. I've attempted to cast the hashmap back to a map, but that didn't work. What am I doing wrong?

• SqlParameter contructor compiler overload choice

  When creating a SqlParameter (.NET3.5) or OdbcParameter I often use the SqlParameter(string parameterName, Object value) constructor overload to set the value in one statement. When I tried passing a literal 0 as the value paramter I was initially caught by the C# compiler choosing the (string, OdbcType) overload instead of (string, Object). MSDN actually warns about this gotcha in the remarks section, but the explanation confuses me. Why does the C# compiler decide that a literal 0 parameter should be converted to OdbcType rather than Object? The warning also says to use Convert.ToInt32(0) to force the Object overload to be used. It confusingly says that this converts the 0 to an "Object type". But isn't 0 already an "Object type"? The Types of Literal Values section of this page seems to say literals are always typed and so inherit from System.Object. This behavior doesn't seem very intuitive given my current understanding? Is this something to do with Contra-variance or Co-variance maybe?

  I implement the IRefactoringExecutionListener interface in an Eclipse plug-in to get notified when the user refactors his code, so I can update a visual editor displaying corresponding UML Boxes accordingly. Now I have a RefactoringDescriptor and cannot manage to map it's information (project name as String, new name as String and resource path as IPath) to my model. My model is basically a Hashmap in which fully qualified names (String) of types are mapped instances of IJavaElement, or more precisely: IType. How can I "convert" between the two representations so I can update my model? Regards, Chris

  I'm having hard time getting my head wrapped around this one - and it should be trivial. I would like to redirect one URL with a specific query string to another URL. I want to send any requests that contain the query string in the URL http://mysite.com/index.php?option=com_user&view=register To: http://mysite.com/index.php?option=com_regme&view=form&regme=4&random=0&Itemid=6 If they add anything to the end of the first URL, it should still go to the second URL so that they cannot bypass the redirection. Nothing in the first query string needs to be preserved and passed to the second - all I want to do is change the URL completely. I'm tearing my hair out trying to get this to work yet it should be trivial. Suggestions? Thanks, -Tim

  Hi, I have a datagrid with customer data such as ID, name, email, phone etc. When I select a row (with a button or selectionchanged) I want to store that row's columns in variables like dim email as string dim name as string email = dgCustomers.theselectedrow.theselectedcell name = dgCustomers.theselectedrow.theselectedcell If I have a datatable with only one row I know I can get column data with: dim email as string = CustomerDataTableInstance.rows(0).Item("Email") I don't know how to get the selected row number though when I have several rows and the user clicks one/uses the keyboard. The datagrid is bound to a datatable, not a class with object collections. Any help is appreciated!

• Translating external api results in Drupal

  We're building a multi-language Drupal stack and one of the concerns we have is that our payment processor is going to have to send back some information to us. We've been able to narrow this down so that the strings they're sending back look like <country code>-<number of months> so we can easily translate that into any number of languages, except English. t('FR-12') is all well and good if we want to translate that into a french description, but because there's not an English language a similar string like t('EN-12') is not translatable. Similarly for the generic string: #API_Connection_Error This sort of generic string approach seemed really compelling to me at first but it seems to not work in Drupal. Do you have any suggestions about how to translate generic strings like this into both English and other languages? Thank you, I've been looking through Google all morning.

  I'm trying to create an auto generated post excerpt from the current page's post content using a function in my theme's header file. The post excerpt will be used as the page's meta description. Can someone give me an idea of how you might go about this once you've got the post content into a string variable? The somewhat tricky part is that, in order to predict a viable stopping point for the post excerpt, I'd like to specify that the cutoff point be the end of the first paragraph of text. And for that reason, it does not make sense to load the entire post content into the string I'm using. Can I grab the first paragraph without having to load the entire post content string? And I'm not certain how to test for that in php. Would regex be the only way?

  Let say that given the following signature in LegacyLib.dll: int Login(SysInst *inst, char username[8], char password[6]); The simple way to marshal this function in C# would be: [DllImport("LegacyLib.dll", CharSet=CharSet.Ansi)] public static extern int Login(ref SysInst inst, string username, string password); The problem of doing it in a such a naive way is that the managed string we passed into the username or password parameter could be longer than the array bounds and this could potentially cause a buffer overrun in LegacyLib.dll. Is there a better way which overcomes this problem? i.e. is there any quick [MarshalAs(…)] magic that I could use to counter that?

  Hi. I have an insertOrUpdate method which inserts an Entity when it doesn't exist or update it if it does. To enable this, I have to findByIdAndForeignKey, if it returned null insert if not then update. The problem is how do I check if it exists? So I tried getSingleResult.   I'm trying to implement shoulda unit tests on a rails 2.3.5 app using mongomapper. So far I've: Configured a rails app that uses mongomapper (the app works) Added shoulda to my gems, and installed it with rake gems:install Added config.frameworks -= [ :active_record, :active_resource ] to config/environment.rb so ActiveRecord isn't used. My models look like this: class Account include MongoMapper::Document key :name, String, :required => true key :description, String key :company_id, ObjectId key :_type, String belongs_to :company many :operations end My test for that model is this one: class AccountTest < Test::Unit::TestCase should_belong_to :company should_have_many :operations should_validate_presence_of :name end It fails on the first should_belong_to: ./test/unit/account_test.rb:3: undefined method `should_belong_to' for AccountTest:Class (NoMethodError) Any ideas why this doesn't work? Should I try something different from shoulda? I must point out that this is the first time I try to use shoulda, and I'm pretty new to testing itself.

I would like to convert this to ADO so I do not have to reference the DAO object library. Here is the code ...   Hi, so in my program I have parts where I use try catch blocks like this try { DirectoryInfo dirInfo = new DirectoryInfo(someString); //I don't know if that directory exists //I don't know if that string is valid path string... it could be anything //Some operations here } catch(Exception iDontCareWhyItFailed) { //Didn't work? great... we will say: somethings wrong, try again/next one } Of course I probably could do checks to see if the string is valid path (regex), then I would check if directory exists, then I could catch various exceptions to see why my routine failed and give more info... But in my program it's not really necessary. Now I just really need to know if this is acceptable, and what would a pro say/think about that. Thanks a lot for attention.

  Hi. A "quicky": how can I get the size (width) of a NSString? I'm trying to see if the string width of a string to see if it is bigger than a given width of screen, case in which I have to "crop" it and append it with "...", getting the usual behavior of a UILabel. string.length won't do the trick since AAAAAAAA and iiiiii have the same length but different sizes (for example). • JS Url GET vars - problem with encoding

  Hey there! I'm having a bit of trouble here and I was hoping someone throws me a hint :) I'm getting some GET VARS with JS but I have trouble with non-latin charsets: cyrillic for example. The cyrillic var appears correct in the url but when I retrieve it with JS I get some dummy string. I was wondering of a function similar to "unescape" for such a case. Alternatively, if someone knows a way I could convert a cyrillic string to the same dummy string I get from the URL, it will still do me the trick, since all I need is compare. :) Thanks! Martin
