  • How to add second JOIN clause in Linq To Sql?

    - by Refracted Paladin
    I am having a lot of trouble coming up with the Linq equivalent of this legacy stored procedure. The biggest hurdle is it doesn't seem to want to let me add a second 'clause' on the join with tblAddress. I am getting a Cannot resolve method... error. Can anyone point out what I am doing wrong? Below is, first, the SPROC I need to convert and, second, my LINQ attempt so far; which is FULL OF FAIL! Thanks SELECT dbo.tblPersonInsuranceCoverage.PersonInsuranceCoverageID, dbo.tblPersonInsuranceCoverage.EffectiveDate, dbo.tblPersonInsuranceCoverage.ExpirationDate, dbo.tblPersonInsuranceCoverage.Priority, dbo.tblAdminInsuranceCompanyType.TypeName AS CoverageCategory, dbo.tblBusiness.BusinessName, dbo.tblAdminInsuranceType.TypeName AS TypeName, CASE WHEN dbo.tblAddress.AddressLine1 IS NULL THEN '' ELSE dbo.tblAddress.AddressLine1 END + ' ' + CASE WHEN dbo.tblAddress.CityName IS NULL THEN '' ELSE '<BR>' + dbo.tblAddress.CityName END + ' ' + CASE WHEN dbo.tblAddress.StateID IS NULL THEN '' WHEN dbo.tblAddress.StateID = 'ns' THEN '' ELSE dbo.tblAddress.StateID END AS Address FROM dbo.tblPersonInsuranceCoverage LEFT OUTER JOIN dbo.tblInsuranceCompany ON dbo.tblPersonInsuranceCoverage.InsuranceCompanyID = dbo.tblInsuranceCompany.InsuranceCompanyID LEFT OUTER JOIN dbo.tblBusiness ON dbo.tblBusiness.BusinessID = dbo.tblInsuranceCompany.BusinessID LEFT OUTER JOIN dbo.tblAddress ON dbo.tblAddress.BusinessID = dbo.tblBusiness.BusinessID and tblAddress.AddressTypeID = 'b' LEFT OUTER JOIN dbo.tblAdminInsuranceCompanyType ON dbo.tblPersonInsuranceCoverage.InsuranceCompanyTypeID = dbo.tblAdminInsuranceCompanyType.InsuranceCompanyTypeID LEFT OUTER JOIN dbo.tblAdminInsuranceType ON dbo.tblPersonInsuranceCoverage.InsuranceTypeID = dbo.tblAdminInsuranceType.InsuranceTypeID WHERE tblPersonInsuranceCoverage.PersonID = @PersonID var coverage = from insuranceCoverage in context.tblPersonInsuranceCoverages where insuranceCoverage.PersonID == personID join insuranceCompany in context.tblInsuranceCompanies on insuranceCoverage.InsuranceCompanyID equals insuranceCompany.InsuranceCompanyID join address in context.tblAddresses on insuranceCompany.tblBusiness.BusinessID equals address.BusinessID where address.AddressTypeID = 'b' select new { insuranceCoverage.PersonInsuranceCoverageID, insuranceCoverage.EffectiveDate, insuranceCoverage.ExpirationDate, insuranceCoverage.Priority, CoverageCategory = insuranceCompany.tblAdminInsuranceCompanyType.TypeName, insuranceCompany.tblBusiness.BusinessName, TypeName = insuranceCoverage.InsuranceTypeID, Address = };

  • Syntax for documenting JSON structure

    - by Roman A. Taycher
    So I'm trying to document the format of the json returned by an api I am writing against and I'd like to know if there is any popular format for the documentation of json structure. Note I'm not trying to to test or validate anything, I'm just using this for documentation. Also some ways to add comments to non-constants(items always returned w/ the same value) would be nice. This the not totally thought out scheme I'm currently using: Plain names refer to identifiers or types. Some types have type-comment Strings that appear to be constant(always returned for that type of request) strings are "str" Constant Numbers would be just the number Constant null is null Booleans are true/false for constant booleans or Boolean otherwise [a,b,c] are lists with 3 items a,b,c [... ...] is a list of repeating elements of some types/constants/patterns {a:A,b:B,c:c} and {... ...} is the same for a dictionary. example: story := [header,footer] header := {"data":realHeader,"kind":"Listing"} realHeader := {"after": null, "before": null, "children": [{"data": realRealHeader, "kind": "t3"}], "modhash": ""} footer := {"data":AlmostComments,"kind":"Listing"} AlmostComments := {"data": {"after": null, "before": null, "children": comments, "modhash": ""}, "kind": "t1"} comments := [...{"data":comment, "kind":"t1"}...] realRealHeader := {"author": string, "clicked": boolean, "created": int, "created_utc": int, "domain": "code.reddit.com", "downs": int, "hidden": boolean, "id": string-id, "is_self": boolean, "levenshtein": null, "likes": null, "media": null, "media_embed": { }, "name": string-id, "num_comments": int, "over_18": false, "permalink": string-urlLinkToStoryStartingFrom/r, "saved": false, "score": int, "selftext": string, "selftext_html": string-html, "subreddit": string-subredditname, "subreddit_id": string-id, "thumbnail": "", "title": string, "ups": int, "url": "http://code.reddit.com/" } comments := { "author": string, "body": string-body_html-wout-html, "body_html": string-html-formated, "created": int, "created_utc": int, "downs": int, "id": string-id, "levenshtein": null, "likes": null, "link_id": string-id, "name": string-id", "parent_id": string-id, "replies": AlmostComments or null, "subreddit": string-subredditname, "subreddit_id": string-id, "ups": int }

  • Populate a tree from Hierarchical data using 1 LINQ statement

    - by Midhat
    Hi. I have set up this programming exercise. using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; namespace ConsoleApplication2 { class DataObject { public int ID { get; set; } public int ParentID { get; set; } public string Data { get; set; } public DataObject(int id, int pid, string data) { this.ID = id; this.ParentID = pid; this.Data = data; } } class TreeNode { public DataObject Data {get;set;} public List<DataObject> Children { get; set; } } class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { List<DataObject> data = new List<DataObject>(); data.Add(new DataObject(1, 0, "Item 1")); data.Add(new DataObject(2, 0, "Item 2")); data.Add(new DataObject(21, 2, "Item 2.1")); data.Add(new DataObject(22, 2, "Item 2.2")); data.Add(new DataObject(221, 22, "Item 2.2.1")); data.Add(new DataObject(3, 0, "Item 3")); } } } The desired output is a List of 3 treenodes, having items 1, 2 and 3. Item 2 will have a list of 2 dataobjects as its children member and so on. I have been trying to populate this tree (or rather a forest) using just 1 SLOC using LINQ. A simple group by gives me the desired data but the challenge is to organize it in TreeNode objects. Can someone give a hint or an impossibility result for this?

  • C# string syntax error

    - by Mesa
    I'm reading in data from a file and trying to write only the word immediately before 'back' in red text. For some reason it is displaying the word and then the word again backwords. Please help. Thank you. private void Form1_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { Regex r = new Regex(" "); StreamReader sr = new StreamReader("KeyLogger.txt"); string[] tokens = r.Split(sr.ReadToEnd()); int index = 0; for(int i = 0; i <= tokens.Length; i++) { if (tokens[i].Equals("back")) { //richTextBox1.Text+="TRUE"; richTextBox1.SelectionColor = Color.Red; string myText; if (tokens[i - 1].Equals("back")) myText = ""; else myText = tokens[i - 1]; richTextBox1.SelectedText = myText; richTextBox1.Text += myText; } else { //richTextBox1.Text += "NOOOO"; } //index++; //richTextBox1.Text += index; } }

  • Comment out a python code block

    - by gbarry
    Is there any mechanism to comment out large blocks of Python code? Right now the only ways I can see of commenting out code are to either start every line with a #, or to enclose the code in """ (triple quotes), except that actually makes it show up in various doc tools. Edit--After reading the answers (and referring to the "duplicate"), I have concluded the correct answer is "No". One person said so, and the rest lectured us about editors. Not a bad thing, but I feel it's important to put the answer at the top.

  • What is the differnce between "LINQ to Entities", "LINQ to SQL" and "LINQ to Dataset".

    - by Marcel
    Hi all, I'm working for quite a while now with LINQ. However, it remained still a bit of a mystery what are the real differences between the mentioned flavours of LINQ. The successful answer will contain a short differentiation between them. What is the main goal if it, what is the benefit, and is there a performance impact... P.S. I know that there are a lot of information sources out there, but I look for a kind of a "cheat sheet" which instructs a newbie where to head to for a specific goal.

  • New to php and need to format a php page from html statement

    - by Peter D
    My problem is the page shows a vertical line of options. I want to put them into a 4 column table to display instead of just down lhs of page. The code I want to change is as follows: </tr> <tr> <td>{LOOP: JOBTYPE} IF("{JOBTYPE.parent_id}"!="0"){&nbsp; {:IF} IF("{JOBTYPE.catcount}"=="0"){<input type="checkbox" name="jobtype[{JOBTYPE.id}]" value="{JOBTYPE.id}" {JOBTYPE.selected}>{JOBTYPE.title}<br>{:IF} IF("{JOBTYPE.catcount}"!="0"){<strong>{JOBTYPE.title}</strong><br>{:IF} {/LOOP: JOBTYPE}</td> </tr> <tr> <td>&nbsp;</td> </tr> As you can see I have another column there and can split cell further but i would like the job list to be displayed accross the page not vertically. Thank you in advance, Peter

  • How to pull a RANDOM and UNIQUE record from SQL via LINQ.

    - by Jeremy H
    Okay, I found lots of posts on SO about how to pull a RANDOM item from the database when using LINQ. There seems to be a couple of differnet ways to handle this. What I need to do though is pull a RANDOM item from the database that the user has not seen before. The data I am pulling from the database is very small. Is there any way I can just hit the database once for 1000 records and then randomly scroll through those? Should I put a cookie on the users system recording the IDs of which items they have seen, pull a random record, check to see if it is seen and if so, pull from the database again? That seems like performance issues just waiting to happen. I don't expect anyone to code it for me, I am just looking for concepts and pointing in the right direction of how I should go about this. Need more details? Just let me know!

  • What's wrong with my logic (Java syntax)

    - by soda
    I'm trying to make a simple program that picks a random number and takes input from the user. The program should tell the user if the guess was hot (-/+ 5 units) or cold, but I never reach the else condition. Here's the section of code: public static void giveHint (int guess) { int min = guess - 5; int max = guess + 5; if ((guess > min) && (guess < max)) { System.out.println("Hot.."); } else { System.out.println("Cold.."); } }

  • syntax for binding multiple variables within text

    - by danke
    When binding multiple variables value1 value2 value3 in the same text field, do I do this: text="{some text value1 other text value2 and other text value3}" or text="some text {value1} other text {value2} and other text {value3}" I noticed both work, but which is the right way to do it and will work all the time.

  • I get a "An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format" error on a SQL Server repli

    - by baldy
    The exact error is as follows "Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Replication, Version=9.0.242.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format." I've recently started working on this project again after a two month move to another project. It worked perfectly before, and I've double checked all the references.

  • Avoid IF statement after condition has been met

    - by greye
    I have a division operation inside a cycle that repeats many times. It so happens that in the first few passes through the loop (more or less first 10 loops) the divisor is zero. Once it gains value, a div by zero error is not longer possible. I have an if condition to test the divisor value in order to avoid the div by zero, but I am wondering that there is a performance impact that evaluating this if will have for each run in subsequent loops, especially since I know it's of no use anymore. How should this be coded? in Python?

  • How to get List of results from list of ID values with LINQ to SQL?

    - by DaveDev
    I have a list of ID values: List<int> MyIDs { get; set; } I'd like to pass this list to an interface to my repository and have it return a List that match the ID values I pass in. List<MyType> myTypes = new List<MyType>(); IMyRepository myRepos = new SqlMyRepository(); myTypes = myRepos.GetMyTypes(this.MyIDs); Currently, GetMyTypes() behaves similarly to this: public MyType GetMyTypes(int id) { return (from myType in db.MyTypes where myType.Id == id select new MyType { MyValue = myType.MyValue }).FirstOrDefault(); } where I iterate through MyIDs and pass each id in and add each result to a list. How do I need to change the LINQ so that I can pass in the full list of MyIDs and get a list of MyTypes out? GetMyTypes() would have a signature similar to public List<MyType> GetMyTypes(List<int> myIds)

  • Why does Javascript's OR return a value other than true/false?

    - by Fletcher Moore
    I saw this construction in order to get the browser viewport width: function () { return window.innerWidth || document.documentElement.clientWidth || document.body.clientWidth; } I understand the browser quirks involved. What I don't understand is why || returns the value. So I tried this alert(undefined || 0 || 3); and sure enough, it alerts 3. I find this bizarre, because I expect true or false. Could anyone explain what's going on?

  • SQL 2005 - any way to restore/copy a diagram?

    - by NealWalters
    I used the Redgate packager (ran MSI) to reset all the data in my database (i.e. I deleted everything, and let it build the new database). Unfortunately, I discovered that it didn't retain my diagrams, which has a nice arrangement and several annotations. Is there any way to copy/migrate/script the diagram from one database to another (the databases have identical structures). Thanks, Neal Walters

  • Why is doing a top(1) on an indexed column in SQL Server slow?

    - by reinier
    I'm puzzled by the following. I have a DB with around 10 million rows, and (among other indices) on 1 column (campaignid_int) is an index. Now I have 700k rows where the campaignid is indeed 3835 For all these rows, the connectionid is the same. I just want to find out this connectionid. use messaging_db; SELECT TOP (1) connectionid FROM outgoing_messages WITH (NOLOCK) WHERE (campaignid_int = 3835) Now this query takes approx 30 seconds to perform! I (with my small db knowledge) would expect that it would take any of the rows, and return me that connectionid If I test this same query for a campaign which only has 1 entry, it goes really fast. So the index works. How would I tackle this and why does this not work? edit: estimated execution plan: select (0%) - top (0%) - clustered index scan (100%)
