  • How to pass content in response from Exception filter in Asp.net WebAPI?

    - by jaffa
    Consider following code: My problem is: 1) I can't seem to cast the errors to HttpContent 2) I can't use the CreateContent extension method as this doesn't exist on the context.Response.Content.CreateContent public class ServiceLayerExceptionFilter : ExceptionFilterAttribute { public override void OnException(HttpActionExecutedContext context) { if (context.Response == null) { var exception = context.Exception as ModelValidationException; if ( exception != null ) { var modelState = new ModelStateDictionary(); modelState.AddModelError(exception.Key, exception.Description); var errors = modelState.SelectMany(x => x.Value.Errors).Select(x => x.ErrorMessage); // Cannot cast errors to HttpContent?? // var resp = new HttpResponseMessage(HttpStatusCode.BadRequest) {Content = errors}; // throw new HttpResponseException(resp); // Cannot create response from extension method?? //context.Response.Content.CreateContent } else { context.Response = new HttpResponseMessage(context.Exception.ConvertToHttpStatus()); } } base.OnException(context); } }

  • Large File Download - Connection With Server Reset

    - by daveywc
    I have an asp.net website that allows the user to download largish files - 30mb to about 60mb. Sometimes the download works fine but often it fails at some varying point before the download finishes with the message saying that the connection with the server was reset. Originally I was simply using Server.TransmitFile but after reading up a bit I am now using the code posted below. I am also setting the Server.ScriptTimeout value to 3600 in the Page_Init event. private void DownloadFile(string fname, bool forceDownload) { string path = MapPath(fname); string name = Path.GetFileName(path); string ext = Path.GetExtension(path); string type = ""; // set known types based on file extension if (ext != null) { switch (ext.ToLower()) { case ".mp3": type = "audio/mpeg"; break; case ".htm": case ".html": type = "text/HTML"; break; case ".txt": type = "text/plain"; break; case ".doc": case ".rtf": type = "Application/msword"; break; } } if (forceDownload) { Response.AppendHeader("content-disposition", "attachment; filename=" + name.Replace(" ", "_")); } if (type != "") { Response.ContentType = type; } else { Response.ContentType = "application/x-msdownload"; } System.IO.Stream iStream = null; // Buffer to read 10K bytes in chunk: byte[] buffer = new Byte[10000]; // Length of the file: int length; // Total bytes to read: long dataToRead; try { // Open the file. iStream = new System.IO.FileStream(path, System.IO.FileMode.Open, System.IO.FileAccess.Read, System.IO.FileShare.Read); // Total bytes to read: dataToRead = iStream.Length; //Response.ContentType = "application/octet-stream"; //Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=" + filename); // Read the bytes. while (dataToRead > 0) { // Verify that the client is connected. if (Response.IsClientConnected) { // Read the data in buffer. length = iStream.Read(buffer, 0, 10000); // Write the data to the current output stream. Response.OutputStream.Write(buffer, 0, length); // Flush the data to the HTML output. Response.Flush(); buffer = new Byte[10000]; dataToRead = dataToRead - length; } else { //prevent infinite loop if user disconnects dataToRead = -1; } } } catch (Exception ex) { // Trap the error, if any. Response.Write("Error : " + ex.Message); } finally { if (iStream != null) { //Close the file. iStream.Close(); } Response.Close(); } }

  • What grammatical tense should I write my specifications in?

    - by John
    We are currently writing functional and technical specifications in a two column format; summary sentence and technical detail. The details often refer to an appendix with diagrams, layout designs ect. However I am struggling with what tense to write it in: With past tense as if the work is done I struggle to show highlight extensions of exiting work. Future tense as in it needs to do X starts to sound like a to do list or Tense neutral very hard as it has either going to be done or is done. To add further confusion this specification may be read by people who do not have English as a first language.

  • Simpler Times

    - by Simon Moon
    Does anyone else out there long for the simpler days where you needed to move a jumper in the jumper block to set your modem card to use IRQ7 so it would not conflict with the interrupts used by other boards in your PC and your modem card came with a 78 page manual telling you everything you would need to know to write your own driver for the board including a full schematic along with the board layout showing every chip, capacitor, and resistor?  Ahhhhh, the simplicity!I am wrestling with UserPnp issues for a USB software licensing dongle that is needed by some third party software in one of our production applications. Of course, every machine in production is virtual, so it could be anything in the chain of the software application library to the device driver running on the VM to the configuration of the simulated USB port to the implementation of the USB connection and transport in the virtual host to the physical electrical connections in the USB port on the hypervisor.If only there were the virtual analog to a set of needle-nose pliers to move a virtual jumper.Come to think of it, I always used to drop those damn things such that they would land in an irretrievable position under the motherboard anyway.

  • Designing a game - Where to start?

    - by OghmaOsiris
    A friend of mine and I are planning a game together to work on in our free time. It's not an extensive game, but it's not a simple one either. He's working on the story behind the game while I'm working on the graphics and code. I don't really know where to start with the game. We know what the basic type of game it's going to be and how it would be played, but I'm having a hard time of actually knowing where to begin. I have Xcode open but I don't really even know what I should be designing first. What is some advice for this writer's block? Where is a good place to start with a game? Should I design all the graphics and layout before even touching Xcode? Should I program the things I know I'll have difficulty with first before getting to the easy stuff?

  • SQL Server: How to remove empty lines in SSMS?

    - by atricapilla
    I have many .sql files with lots of empty lines e.g. WITH cteTotalSales (SalesPersonID, NetSales) AS ( SELECT SalesPersonID, ROUND(SUM(SubTotal), 2) FROM Sales.SalesOrderHeader WHERE SalesPersonID IS NOT NULL GROUP BY SalesPersonID ) SELECT sp.FirstName + ' ' + sp.LastName AS FullName, sp.City + ', ' + StateProvinceName AS Location, ts.NetSales FROM Sales.vSalesPerson AS sp INNER JOIN cteTotalSales AS ts ON sp.BusinessEntityID = ts.SalesPersonID ORDER BY ts.NetSales DESC Is ther a way to remove these empty lines in SQL Server Management Studio? This is what I would like to have: WITH cteTotalSales (SalesPersonID, NetSales) AS ( SELECT SalesPersonID, ROUND(SUM(SubTotal), 2) FROM Sales.SalesOrderHeader WHERE SalesPersonID IS NOT NULL GROUP BY SalesPersonID ) SELECT sp.FirstName + ' ' + sp.LastName AS FullName, sp.City + ', ' + StateProvinceName AS Location, ts.NetSales FROM Sales.vSalesPerson AS sp INNER JOIN cteTotalSales AS ts ON sp.BusinessEntityID = ts.SalesPersonID ORDER BY ts.NetSales DESC

  • richfaces keepAlive not working

    - by Jurgen H
    I have a mediaOutput tag which, in its createContent attribute, requires the backing bean to be in a certain state. A list of values, which is filled in an init method, must be available. I therefore added a keepAlive tag for the whole backing bean. I now indeed see the backingBean in stead of some (richfaces) proxy bean, but the filled list is null again. How to make this possible? I checked that the init method was called and that the list is filled in in the init method. <a4j:keepAlive beanName="myBean" /> <a4j:mediaOutput createContent="#{myBean.writeChart}" ... /> The backing bean public class MyBean implements Serializable { public List list; public void init(ActionEvent event) { // call some resource to fill the list list = service.getItems(); } public void writeChart(final OutputStream out, final Object data) throws IOException { // list is null } // getters & setters }

  • Backing up bind mounted folders

    - by NahsiN
    My layout is as follows. LVM Setup: /dev/VG/Documents, /dev/VG/Music, /dev/VG/Pictures, /dev/VG/Music, /dev/VG/Documents, etc.... Each of the LVMs is bind mounted to the corresponding folder name in /home/foo. For example, /home/foo/Documents bind mounted to /media/Documents (mount point of /dev/VG/Documents), etc. If I set up deja-dup to just back up my home folder, am I guaranteed that everything from my LVMs will be backed up properly? So let's say I take away my LVMs for some reason and choose to restore an earlier backup. My home folder will contain everything from the LVMs? All my docs, music, vids etc. My intuition tells me everything will be fine but it doesn't hurt to ask the the experts ;). Hope I have made myself clear. Thanks

  • what happens to running/blocked runnables when executorservice is shutdown()

    - by prmatta
    I posted a question about a thread pattern today, and almost everyone suggested that I look into the ExecutorService. While I was looking into the ExecutorService, I think I am missing something. What happens if the service has a running or blocked threads, and someone calls ExecutorService.shutdown(). What happens to threads that are running or blocked? Does the ExecutorService wait for those threads to complete before it terminates? The reason I ask this is because a long time ago when I used to dabble in Java, they deprecated Thread.stop(), and I remember the right way of stopping a thread was to use sempahores and extend Thread when necessary: public void run () { while (!this.exit) { try { block(); //do something } catch (InterruptedException ie) { } } } public void stop () { this.exit = true; if (this.thread != null) { this.thread.interrupt(); this.thread = null; } } How does ExecutorService handle running threads?

  • Best practice with respect to NPE and multiple expressions on single line

    - by JRL
    I'm wondering if it is an accepted practice or not to avoid multiple calls on the same line with respect to possible NPEs, and if so in what circumstances. For example: getThis().doThat(); vs Object o = getThis(); o.doThat(); The latter is more verbose, but if there is an NPE, you immediately know what is null. However, it also requires creating a name for the variable and more import statements. So my questions around this are: Is this problem something worth designing around? Is it better to go for the first or second possibility? Is the creation of a variable name something that would have an effect performance-wise? Is there a proposal to change the exception message to be able to determine what object is null in future versions of Java ?

  • Confused with conditional and logical operators - VB.net

    - by AgentRev
    I'm kind of new to VB.net, and since I just finished a C# course, the lack of parentheses creates a lot of confusion on how to write certain combinations of operators. The C# equivalent of the line I am trying to reproduce in VB would be like this : if ( (a == 0 && b != null) || (a == 1 && c != null) ) I'm have no idea how to write this in VB, I've tried many combinations of And, Or, AndAlso, OrElse, etc. but I can't achieve the desired result. I can't find any clear example of C# v.s. VB.net comparison on operators, and the notes I have aren't helpful either. Can someone help me figure this out?

  • How do I find the top N batters per year?

    - by Drew Stephens
    I'm playing around with the Lahman Baseball Database in a MySQL instance. I want to find the players who topped home runs (HR) for each year. The Batting table has the following (relevant parts) of its schema: +-----------+----------------------+------+-----+---------+-------+ | Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra | +-----------+----------------------+------+-----+---------+-------+ | playerID | varchar(9) | NO | PRI | | | | yearID | smallint(4) unsigned | NO | PRI | 0 | | | HR | smallint(3) unsigned | YES | | NULL | | +-----------+----------------------+------+-----+---------+-------+ For each year, every player has an entry (between hundreds and 12k per year, going back to 1871). Getting the top N hitters for a single year is easy: SELECT playerID,yearID,HR FROM Batting WHERE yearID=2009 ORDER BY HR DESC LIMIT 3; +-----------+--------+------+ | playerID | yearID | HR | +-----------+--------+------+ | pujolal01 | 2009 | 47 | | fieldpr01 | 2009 | 46 | | howarry01 | 2009 | 45 | +-----------+--------+------+ But I'm interested in finding the top 3 from every year. I've found solutions like this, describing how to select the top from a category and I've tried to apply it to my problem, only to end up with a query that never returns: SELECT b.yearID, b.playerID, b.HR FROM Batting AS b LEFT JOIN Batting b2 ON (b.yearID=b2.yearID AND b.HR <= b2.HR) GROUP BY b.yearID HAVING COUNT(*) <= 3; Where have I gone wrong?

  • empty() not a valid callback?

I'm getting errors that it's not a valid callback. $ cat test.php <? $arrays = array( 'arrEmpty' => array( '','','' ), ); foreach ( $arrays as $key => $array ) { echo $key .   • Data not displayed first time in android after copying the file from assets to data folder

    - by Thinkcomplete
    Description I have used the code tip from http://www.reigndesign.com/blog/using-your-own-sqlite-database-in-android-applications/ to copy a pre-filled data file to the target and handled this in a asynch task Problem : On starting the application it gives error and shuts down first time, starting again without any change it works perfectly fine. So first time after the file is copied, the error comes but after that no issues. Please help Code attached:.. private class CopyDatabase extends AsyncTask<String, Void, Boolean> { private final ProgressDialog dialog = new ProgressDialog(BabyNames.this); protected void onPreExecute() { this.dialog.setMessage("Loading..."); this.dialog.show(); } @Override protected Boolean doInBackground(String... params) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub try { namesDBSQLHelper.createDatabase(); return null; } catch(IOException ioe){ ioe.printStackTrace(); } return null; } protected void onPostExecute(final Boolean success){ if (this.dialog.isShowing()){ this.dialog.dismiss(); } } }

On the page I would like use iteration tag. That is why I've declared some factory (SomeFactory) that resolves collection of entities (Entity). Per article: http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B32110_01/web.1013/b28221/usclient005.htm#CIHCEHHG the only thing I need is declaration: @PersistenceContext(unitName="name_in_persistence_xml") public class SomeFactory { @PersistenceUnit(unitName="name_in_persistence_xml") EntityManagerFactory emf; public EntityManager getEntityManager() { assert(emf != null); //HERE every time it is null return emf.createEntityManager(); } public Collection<Entity> getAll() { return getEntityManager().createNamedQuery("Entity.findAll").getResultList(); } } What is wrong? May be i miss something in web.xml? How to pre-init toplink for web application to allow injection happen?

  • forcing Management Studio to use alter table instead of drop/recreate

    - by marco
    Hi! I'm wondering if is there a way to force MSSQL Management Studio to produce a script like this: ALTER TABLE Mytable ADD MyCol bit NOT NULL CONSTRAINT MyColDefault DEFAULT 0 WITH VALUES ALTER TABLE [dbo].Mytable ALTER COLUMN MyCol2 int NULL GO when I alter a very simple property of a column on a table. If I do this in the designer and ask for the produced script, the script doesn't do such simple tasks, but instead copies all the data in a tmp table, drops the original table, renames the tmp table with the original table name. And, of course, drops and recreates every constraint and relationships. Is there any option I can change to change this behaviour? Or, this may be possible, is there some danger I don't see in using the simple ALTER TABLE above? thanks.

  • Documenting user interfaces in a mouse-less touch UI

    - by Daniel Cazzulino
    “Old” apps rely on mouse pointing and tooltips to explain what a given button is for. Maybe there is text associated with the button, but you can only put so much text without wasting useful screen state. More so in a phone or tablet app. I’ve seen a trend in Google apps where they put an overlay on top of the app the first time it runs, to explain how the various pieces of UI work. I have seen this also on my Nexus phone, but don’t have a screenshot. I don’t recall a way to actually bring that help overlay back again, so that’s maybe some built-in gesture that’s missing. Here’s what it looks like in Gmail, the first time you use the new compose layout:   I like the approach very much, and I think it’s something that should become standard part of mobile OS, and Windows, including a standard way to bring that help up from within any app....Read full article

  • Twitter Authentication through Android's AccountManager classes.

    - by Robby Pond
    I am working on a twitter based app and am trying to incorporate Android's built-in Account support for Twitter. The following code works to popup the confirmation dialog for my app to access twitter but I am unsure of what to pass in as the authenticationType. Any help would be appreciated. I've googled all over the place and can't seem to find the correct answer. It goes in place of "oauth" below. AccountManager am = AccountManager.get(this); Account[] accts = am.getAccountsByType(TWITTER_ACCOUNT_TYPE); if(accts.length > 0) { Account acct = accts[0]; am.getAuthToken(acct, "oauth"/*what goes here*/, null, this, new AccountManagerCallback<Bundle>() { @Override public void run(AccountManagerFuture<Bundle> arg0) { try { Bundle b = arg0.getResult(); Log.e("TrendDroid", "THIS AUTHTOKEN: " + b.getString(AccountManager.KEY_AUTHTOKEN)); } catch (Exception e) { Log.e("TrendDroid", "EXCEPTION@AUTHTOKEN"); } }}, null); }
