• Git repo planning questions

  At work, development uses perforce to handle code sharing. I won't say "revision control", because we aren't allowed to check in changes until they are ready for regression testing. In order to get my personal change sets under revision control, I've been given the go-ahead to build my own git and initialize the client view of the perforce depot as a git repo. There are some difficulties in doing this, however. The client view lives in a subfolder of ~, (~/p4), and I want to put ~ under revision control as well, with its own separate history. I can't figure out how to keep the history for ~ separate from ~/p4 without using a submodule. The problem with a submodule is that it looks like I have to go make a repository that will become the submodule and then git submodule add <repo> <path>. But there is nowhere to make the submodule's repository except in ~. There seems to be no safe place to create the initial client view of the depot with git p4 clone. (I'm working off of the assumption that initing or cloning a repo into a subdirectory of a git repo is not supported. At least, I can find nothing authoritative on nested git repos.) edit: Is merely ignoring ~/p4 in the repo rooted at ~ enough to allow me to init a nested repo in ~/p4? My __git_ps1 function still thinks I'm in a git repository when I visit an ignored subdirectory of a git repo, so I'm inclined to think not. I need the "remote" repository created by git p4 sync to be a branch in ~/p4. We are required to keep all of our code in ~/p4 so that it doesn't get backed up. Can I pull from a "remote" branch that is really a local branch? This one is just for convenience, but I thought I could learn something by asking it. For 99% of the project, I just want to start the with the p4 head revision as the inital commit object. For the other 1%, I would like to suck down the entire p4 history so that I can browse it in git. IOW, after I'm done initalizing it, the initial commit of remotes/p4/master branch will contain: revision 1 of //depot/prod/Foo/Bar/* revision X of other files in //depot/prod/*, where X is the head revision and the remotes/p4/master branch contains Y commits, where Y is the number of changelists that had a file in //depot/prod/Foo/Bar/*, with each commit in the history corresponding to one of those p4 changelists, and HEAD looking like p4's head.

  Hi all. I have a gridview control where if the user click on the auto generated edit button. A window will pop up using modalpopup extender with a drop down list for user to select. The problem is the selectedindexchange event will not fire if autopostback is set to false but if i set the autopostback to true. the pop up will go away without going to the selectedindexchange event. is it possible to have a control with autopostback set to true inside the modal pop up?

• WPF: KeyboardNavigationMode.Contained doesn't work to suppress focus wrap

  I want to navigate in my window with the arrow key. It works so far but if I reach the end of my window, focus wraps to the first main menu item. • .net ViewState in page lifecycle

  I have a page containing a control called PhoneInfo.ascx. PhoneInfo is dynamically created using LoadControl() and then the initControl() function is called passing in an initialization object to set some initial textbox values within PhoneInfo. The user then changes these values and hits a submit button on the page which is wired up to the "submit_click" event. This event invokes the GetPhone() function within PhoneInfo. The returned value has all of the new user entered values except that the phoneId value (stored in ViewState and NOT edited by the user) always comes back as null. I believe that the viewstate is responsible for keeping track of user entered data across a postback, so I can't understand how the user values are coming back but not the explicitly set ViewState["PhoneId"] value! If I set the ViewState["PhoneId"] value in PhoneInfo's page_load event, it retrieves it correctly after the postback, but this isn't an option because I can only initialize that value when the page is ready to provide it. I'm sure I am just messing up the page lifecycle somehow, any suggestion or questions would really help! I have included a much simplified version of the actual code below.   I want to write a Firefox extension that acts exactly like the built-in RSS feed scanner (as an exercise). It should do the following: On each new page / tab load, it should scan the content of the page for RSS feeds If there are RSS feeds in the page, it should put a button in the location bar that the user can click On clicking the button, a speech bubble should appear under the button (the way a speech bubble appears under the bookmarks star when you click on it), with information on the feeds and buttons to subscribe to them So my main questions are: What is the process to run specific content scripts for specific pages? What is the process to use the results of those scripts to update the speech bubble for each location bar button for each tab? Basically, I'm trying to figure out how to do in Firefox what Page Actions are in Google Chrome. Please help! :)

• How to hide a Mono application on the OSX Dock

  I have a Mono application that should not show on the dock, but will occasionally show a window. I want neither menu bar nor dock icon to show for this application. I have my application wrapped in an app bundle, and my info.plist file has the LSUIElement set to "1". This does not seem to be hiding my application from the Dock. I have tried also calling osascript with the following info in a Process.Start: osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to set visible of process "myapp" to false' This returns a System Event error code: -10006. Thus far, I've had no luck finding out what that means. I've also tried all the standard Hide() and Visibility = false stuff inside Mono. Anyone found a workaround for this, or have an idea a direction I can look in? For the most part, working in Mono has been straightforward .Net coding, but this has me stumped.

• UISegmentedControl register taps on selected segment

  Hi, I have a segmented control where the user can select how to order a list. Works fine. However, I would like that when an already selected segment is tapped, the order gets inverted. I have all the code in place, but I don't know how to register the taps on those segments. It seems the only control event you can use is UIControlEventValueChanged, but that isn't working (since the selected segment isn't actually changing). Is there a solution for this? And if so, what is it? Thanks in advance!

• How can I detect if the Solution is initializing using the DTE in a VisualStudio extension?

  I am using the DTE to track when projects are loaded and removed from the solution so that I can update a custom Test Explorer extension. I then trigger a container discovery process. But when the solution is first loaded it does an asynchronous load of some projects and fires a lot of Project Added events. What I would really like to do is to ignore all of these events until the solution is done loading. I can't quite figure out the order of events such that I know for sure that this initialization process has completed. It would be really nice to be able to just query the solution object and ask it. Does anyone know if there is a property or interface or event that I can use to determine this?

  I have some javascript code that includes an ANTLR-generated lexer and parser, and some associated syntax tree evaluation functionality. This code runs in the browser in my web app to support users who author code snippets which process scientific data. Now I'd like to do some additional background processing on the server using the same generated parser. I would prefer not to have to re-implement this stuff in C# and have multiple bits of code that did the exact same thing. Performance isn't as critical to me as eliminating duplication, since this is a background process. So, how can I call into my javascript code from C#? And how can I format my script so that it plays nicely with my .NET web app?

• ProcessCmdKey - wait for KeyUp?

  Hi, I'm having the following issue in a WinForms app. I'm trying to implement Hotkeys and I need to process Key messages whenever the control is active, no matter if the focus is on a textbox within that control, etc. Overriding ProcessCmdKey works beautifully for this and does exactly what I want with one exception: If a user presses a key and keeps it pressed, ProcessCmdKey keeps triggering WM_KEYDOWN events. However, what I want to achieve is that the user has to release the button again before another hotkey action would trigger (so, if someone sits on the keyboard it would not cause continuous hotkey events). However, I can't find where to catch WM_KEYUP events, so I can set a flag if it should process ProcessCmdKey messages again? Anyone can help out here? Thanks, Tom

• SQL Server version of MySQL's group_concat and escaped strings

  I only have the Express versions of MS SQL Server 2008 and Visual Studio. Given that I can't create a SQL Server project and therefore CLR solutions are out of the question, I've attempted to use select col1, stuff( ( select ' ' + col2 from StrConcat t1 where t2.col1 = t1.col1 for xml path('') ),1,1,'') from StrConcat t2 group by col1 order by col1 to get a row concatenated col2. col2 is a varchar field with some control characters like & and \n. When it is concatenated with the above SQL, it appears to escape those control characters ie. & becomes & amp ; and \n becomes &#xOD, which is not what I want it to do. So, the question is, what black box magic is causing that to happen?

• Avoiding exceptions when uploading files in laravel

  I've got a file upload field (attachment1) in a form that may or may not have a file uploaded in it when I process the form in laravel. When I'm trying to process the page, this line generates an exception: Input::upload('attachment1',path('storage').'attachments/'.$name); Here is the text of the exception: Message: Call to a member function move() on a non-object it seems that I need to check in advance to see if 'attachment1' has a file, and I found that the function Input::has_file('attachment1') is supposed to tell me whether or not 'attachment1' has a file, but even when I submit an empty form, it returns true. Also, from reading documentation, it seems that Input::upload is supposed to just return false when trying to upload a non-existant file, so why does it produce this exception instead, and how can I fix it?

• Easy Flood Fill

  Some advice, please. I'm just starting out in C#. I've managed to get some shapes created on a Windows form, and now I'd like to fill them with color. In the old C++ I studied years ago, there was a floodfill function that was really easy. It has been an unpleasant realization to find there's not a similar method available in regular old C#. Does anyone have advice for me, or some code, so I can implement filling without understanding GDI+, DirectX, or rest of the avalanche of acronyms that I've run into by researching this on the web? I need to fill irregular shapes, bounded by a certain color. Gradient and transparency control would be nice, but I'd settle for plain old solid fill right now, just to get a modicom of control over this. Any help, code or advice would be really appreciated.

• How to reduce simple cpp application size? (compiled with RAD Studio 2010 cpp builder)

  I am using rad studio 2010 cpp builder. I've created a new SDI application, added a TCppWebBrowser control and a simple button that onclick trigger the .navigate for the TCppWebBrowser, I compiled it and I got a 1.20mb file, I was expecting less than 700kb at least. How can I reduce the size of the compiled exe? I don't want to use "build with runtime packages", I know that will make it very small but I want to get all the necessary packages and dependencies inside the exe but maybe I am getting more than I use, I tried unchecking/removing a lot of design packages (in project/options/packages) I don't use but the file size didn't decreased. Also I was thinking maybe the TForm component that comes with RAD Studio is giving me more stuff than I need and that could make the file bigger, I mean I only need to drop a webbrowser control and a few buttons in the form, maybe there's a minimal form component I could use to replace TForm. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

  I recently stumbled upon Code Contracts and have started using them in my C# projects. However, I also have a number of projects written in C++/CLI. For C# and VB, Code Contracts offer a handy configuration panel in the project properties dialog. For a C++/CLI project, there is no such panel. From the documentation, I got the impression that adding Code Contracts support to a C++/CLI project should be a simple matter of calling some external tools as part of the build process (namely ccrefgen.exe, cccheck.exe, and ccrewrite.exe). However, the number of command line options and restrictions concerning the call sequence have me somewhat intimidated. Can anybody point me to a simple way to run the Code Contracts tools as an automated part of the build process in Visual Studio?

Previously, for my similar Winforms App, I had extended the IComponent (Component Class) and wrote our VS Like designer kind of custom control which will allow users to drag drop controls from the visual studio toolbox and then I export it as a VisualStudio C#&VB ItemTemplate. Now I am trying to recreate the same control using WPF considering its power, extensiblity. Could anyone shed some lights on this, on what would be the most preferable way of doing this ? • Producer/consumer in Grails?

  Hi all, I'm trying to implement a Consumer/Producer app in Grails, after several unsuccessful attempts at implementing concurrent threads. Basically I want to store all the events coming from a clients (through separate AJAX calls) in a single queue and then process such a queue in a linear way as soon as new events are added. This looks like a Producer/Consumer problem: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Producer-consumer_problem How can I implement this in Grails (maybe with a timer or even better by generating an event 'process queue')? Basically I'd like to a have a singleton service waiting for new events in the queue and processing them linearly (even if the queue is loaded by several concurrent processes). Any hints? Cheers!

  I have a java website application running in windows 7 which uses oracle database for its functionalities. The database has default SID name orcl. When I use tnsping, I can see that the orcl service is active. Also most of the application is working fine except for one part.
