  I'm trying to model a Person/Team relationship. It's a many to many relationship since a person can belong to multiple teams and a team can have multiple people. As suggested by the doc I created an intermediate entity called TeamMember. • How can I encode four unsigned bytes (0-255) to a float and back again using HLSL?

  Hello! I am facing a task where one of my hlsl shaders require multiple texture lookups per pixel. My 2d textures are fixed to 256*256, so two bytes should be sufficient to address any given texel given this constraint. My idea is then to put two xy-coordinates in each float, giving me eight xy-coordinates in pixel space when packed in a Vector4 format image. These eight coordinates are then used to sample another texture(s). The reason for doing this is to save graphics memory and an attempt to optimize processing time, since then I don't require multiple texture lookups. By the way: Does anyone know if encoding/decoding 16 bytes from/to 4 floats using 1 sampling is slower than 4 samplings with unencoded data?

  I need to get basic user data from Facebook using FB.api('/<some_id>/'). This works well, but is slow, since I need to ask for every id separately and make several calls to facebook. Is there any way to gather all ids and ask for them in single request and get an array? EDIT I am not asking for user friends. I am actually trying to gather friends' friends of a user and that's something Facebook doesn't provide, that's why I am using graph.facebook.com/<id>/ rather than graph.facebook.com/me/friends. • Data table to Excel conversion leaves my server side button non responsive in SharePoint WebPart

  We have a web part on which we display some data in a grid. We are exporting grid's underlying datatable to Excel and displaying Open - Save - Cancel dialouge box on click of a server side button. Following is the code we are executing on click of server side button. this.Page.Response.Clear(); this.Page.Response.AppendHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=MyTasks.xls"); this.Page.Response.ContentType = "application/ms-excel"; this.Page.Response.Write("...here goes my well formated html...."); this.Page.Response.End(); Problem is that when i click on Cancel in the diaglouge box then dialogue box to Open/Save excel disappears but all the server side buttons placed on my web part becomes non responsive, on click of any of those buttons their server side click event does not get fired !!! • How can I sort by a transformable attribute in an NSFetchedResultsController?

  I'm using NSValueTransformers to encrypt attributes (strings, dates, etc.) in my Core Data model, but I'm pretty sure it's interfering with the sorting in my NSFetchedResultsController. Does anyone know if there's a way to get around this? I suppose it depends on how the sort is performed; if it's always only performed directly on the database, then I'm probably out of luck. If it sorts on the objects themselves, then perhaps there's a way to activate the transformation before the sort occurs. I'm guessing it's directly on the database, though, since the sort would be key in grabbing subsets of the collection, which is the main benefit of NSFetchedResultsController anyway.

• Can't create flex4 project in flexbuilder using remoting or LiveCycle Data Servcies ES

  I'm trying out the FlasBuilder ide with ColdFusion 8 on OS X. When I try to create a new project, I get stuck at the server setup screen that forces you to validate your paths for your ColdFusion root folder and your webroot. Every combination I try says either "LiveCycle Data Services is not installed at the specified location" or "Invalid root. The WEB-INF/flex folder must contain either flex-config.xml or services-config.xml." The flex-config.xml file is sitting in that directory. Is there some trick to getting this to work?

• What are the reasons to store documents into DBMS when using Alfresco CMS

  Hello guys! I have interview for an internship with company that wants to implement document management system and they are considering on the first place open source solutions, their top choice being Alfresco, but decision is still not final, part of my work there would be to investigate is Alfresco the best solution. What I have seen from project description, is that they would implement Alfresco with MySQL database, and not to use DBMS just for document metadata and indexing, but they actually want to store documents inside. By company profile, type of documents would be mostly PDF and .doc, not images. I have researched a bit, and I have read all the topics here related to storing files into the database, not to duplicate a question. So from what I understand, storing BLOBS is generally not recomendable, and by the profile of the company and their legal obligations with archiving, I see they will have to store larger amount of docs. I would like to be ready as much as I can for the interview and that is why I would like your opinion on these questions: What will be your reasons for deciding to store documents into the DBMS, (especially having in mind that you are installing Alfresco, which stores files in the FS)??? Do you have any experiences with storing documents into the MySQL database specifically??? All the help is very much appreciated, I am really excited about interview and really want this internship, so this is one of things i really want to understand before!! Thank you!!!!

• Install a file which should be removed only on real uninstall and never overwritten

  When I install my application, along with the binaries, a conf file is installed that the user can change as he needs (it's actually the user data file). I would like this file to not be overwritten or deleted when a repair, upgrade, modify happens and it should be deleted only when a real uninstall happens. In other words: this conf file is installed along with the binaries and should never be touched again (overwritten/deleted) until a real uninstall happens (not repairs, modifies, upgrades) in which case it should be deleted. So I was thinking of doing: <Component Id="aaa.cfg" Guid="GUID"> <File Id="aaa.cfg" Source="aaa.cfg" KeyPath="yes" /> </Component> But I don't know how could I condition the component so that: 1) the component to be removed only on a real uninstall - not upgrades, repairs, modifies? 2) the file should in no case be overwritten if already exists. • How to get objects after CoreData Context merged

  Hi, I tried to save data and merge with CoreData and multi-thread for iPhone app. But I can't get managed objects in the main thread after merging. I wrote code just like this: [managedObjectContext performSelectorOnMainThread:@selector(mergeChangesFromContextDidSaveNotification:) withObject:notification waitUntilDone:YES]; [self performSelectorOnMainThread:@selector(didMerged:) withObject:objectIds waitUntilDone:YES]; So I tried to pass objectIds to get NSManagedObject instances in the main thread which were generated in another thread. At first I tried "objectWithId" method but it generated fault objects. Then I tried "existingObjectWithID" method but it generated objects partly and others were nil with following Error: [Error] Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=133000 "Operation could not be completed. (Cocoa error 133000.)" What is wrong? Is there any way how to retrieve all objects by objectIds after merging in another thread? Thank you.

• Database not updating after UPDATE SQL statement in ASP.net

  I currently have a problem attepting to update a record within my database. I have a webpage that displays in text boxes a users details, these details are taken from the session upon login. The aim is to update the details when the user overwrites the current text in the text boxes. • How to Obtain Data to Pre-Populate Forms.

  The objective is to have a form reflect user's defined constraints on a search. At first, I relied entirely upon server-side scripting to achieve this; recently I tried to shift the functionality to JavaScript. On the server side, the search parameters are stored in a ColdFusion struct which makes it particularly convenient to have the data JSON'ed and sent to the client. Then it's just a matter of separately iterating over 'checkable' and text fields to reflect the user's search parameters; jQuery proved to be exceptionally effective in simplifying the workload. One observable difference lies in performance. The second method appeared to be somewhat slower and didn't work in IE8. Evidently, the returned JSON'ed struct was seen as an empty object. I'm sure it can be fixed, though before spending any more time with it, I'm curious to hear how others would approach the task. I'd gladly appreciate any suggestions. --Stan

• MySQL - How do I inner join sorting the joined data

  I'm trying to write a report which will join a person, their work, and their hourly wage at the time of work. I cannot seem to figure out the best way to join the person's cost when the date is less than the date of the work. Let's say a person cost $30 per hour at the start of the year then got a $10 raise o Feb 5 and another on Mar 1. 01/01/2010 $30.00 (per hour) 02/05/2010 $40.00 03/01/2010 $45.00 The person put in hours several days which span the rasies. 01/05/2010 10 hours (should be at $30/hr) 01/27/2010 5 hours (again at $30) 02/10/2010 10 hours (at $40/hr) 03/03/2010 5 hours (at $45/hr) I'm trying to write one SQL statement which will pull the hours, the cost per hour, and the hours*cost. The cost is the hourly rate last entered into the system so the cost date is less than the work date, ordered by cost date limit 1. SELECT person.id, person.name, work.hours, person_costs.value, work.hours * person_costs.value AS value FROM person INNER JOIN work ON (person.id = work.person_id) INNER JOIN person_costs ON (person.id = person_costs.person_id AND person_costs.date < work.date) WHERE person.id = 1234 ORDER BY work.date ASC The problem I'm having, the person_costs isn't ordered by date in descending order. It's pulling out "any" value (naturally sorted by record position) which matches the condition. How do I select the first person_cost value which is older than the work date? Thanks!

  Hi, I am writing a Core Data-based iPhone app and I am new to Objective-C. I have a bug that I am really struggling to nail.   If i have file for eg: a log file created by any background process on unix, how do i view the data that getting updated each and every time. i know that i can use tail command to see the file.but let's say i have used tail -10 file.txt it will give the last 10 lines.but if lets say at one time 10 lines got added and at the next instance it has been added 2 lines. now from the tail command i can see previous 8 lines also.i don't want this.i want only those two lines which were added. In short i want to view only those lines which were appended.how can i do this?

  Hello all, I have written an application that unit tests our hardware via a internet browser. I have command classes in the assembly that are a wrapper around individual web browser actions such as ticking a checkbox, selecting from a dropdown box as such: BasicConfigurationCommands EventConfigurationCommands StabilizationCommands and a set of test classes, that use the command classes to perform scripted tests: ConfigurationTests StabilizationTests These are then invoked via the GUI to run prescripted tests by our QA team. However, as the firmware is changed quite quickly between the releases it would be great if a developer could write an XML file that could invoke either the tests or the commands: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?> <testsuite> <StabilizationTests> <StressTest repetition="10" /> </StabilizationTests> <BasicConfigurationCommands> <SelectConfig number="2" /> <ChangeConfigProperties name="Weeeeee" timeOut="15000" delay="1000"/> <ApplyConfig /> </BasicConfigurationCommands> </testsuite> I have been looking at the System.Reflection class and have seen examples using GetMethod and then Invoke. This requires me to create the class object at compile time and I would like to do all of this at runtime. I would need to scan the whole assembly for the class name and then scan for the method within the class. • SQLServer Replication, dealing with updating data in a subscriber without merging with the publisher

  To simplify my problem, picture two databases, one is a publisher, one is a replicated subscriber. Most of the time, changes are configured in the publisher, and pushed to the subscriber once per day using transactional replication. (The subscriber is the main production database). However, on a rare occasion, we need to make a change directly to the subscriber database. This does not break replication, however to ensure consistency, we also want to replicate this single change back to the publisher database. My first thought was to make both databases publishers to each other, but that does not work. Merge replication also does not work as that merges the data together, and we really only want to push that single change from the subscriber back to the publisher. Is there some other replication scheme I can use here, or do I need to invent my own thing?

  I think that the zipper is a beautiful idea; it elegantly provides a way to walk a list or tree and make what appear to be local updates in a functional way. Asymptotically, the costs appear to be reasonable. But traversing the data structure requires memory allocation at each iteration, where a normal list or tree traversal is just pointer chasing. This seems expensive (please correct me if I am wrong). Are the costs prohibitive? And what under what circumstances would it be reasonable to use a zipper?
