  • Is it better to alloc/dealloc new UIBarButtonItems when toggling Edit/Done? Why?

    - by cambria
Apple's documentation implies that for a UITableView editable with an "Edit/Done" button, you should create and destroy the button each time it's toggled. Here's a snippet of code "BonjourWeb" sample code project that does this: if (editing) { // Add the "done" button to the navigation bar UIBarButtonItem *doneButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithBarButtonSystemItem:UIBarButtonSystemItemDone target:self action:@selector(doneAction:)]; self.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem = doneButton; [doneButton release]; [self addAddButton:YES]; } else { if ([self.customs count]) { // Add the "edit" button to the navigation bar UIBarButtonItem *editButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithBarButtonSystemItem:UIBarButtonSystemItemEdit target:self action:@selector(editAction:)]; self.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem = editButton; [editButton release]; } Is this really better than just editing the title of the button? Is there some performance optimisation that I'm not seeing? Or is this just bad example source?

  • Singleton issue causing a buffer overrun

    - by Rudiger
Hi everyone, Ive created a singleton to store 2 arrays: @interface Globals : NSObject { NSMutableArray *items; NSMutableArray *extras; } + (Globals *)sharedInstance; @property (nonatomic, assign) NSMutableArray *items; @property (nonatomic, assign) NSMutableArray *extras; @end @implementation Globals @synthesize items, extras; + (Globals *)sharedInstance { static Globals *myInstance = nil; @synchronized(self) { if(!myInstance) { myInstance = [[Globals alloc] init]; } } return myInstance; } -(void)dealloc { [items release]; [extras release]; [super dealloc]; } @end When I set the Arrays in the singleton from the App delegate and then output them to NSLog it displays what is expected. But when I call it from a view controller further into the App it displays the first entry fine, some of the second entry and then garbage which is i assume a buffer overrun, sometimes it also crashes. I set the singleton array in the appDelegate like so: Globals *sharedInstance = [Globals sharedInstance]; [sharedInstance setItems:items]; and retrieve it: [[[sharedInstance items] objectAtIndex:indexPath.row] objectForKey:@"name"]; cell.description.text = [[[sharedInstance items] objectAtIndex:indexPath.row] objectForKey:@"description"]; Name works fine in both cells if there is 2, description works in the first case, never in the second case. Is it because the arrays in my singleton aren't static? If so why is it outputting the first entry fine? Cheers for any help.

  • Change TabBarController in detail view

    - by Antriel
So I have a TabBarController with 2 views. One of the views is a TableView in navigationController. When user selects a row I push a detail view there. I want this detail view to have its own TabBarController different from the former one. So basically the question is if I can push a view on top different view with different TabBarController, but using navigationController not as a modal view.

  • Is there a project setting that controls getting to Game Center's Sandbox?

    - by CBGraham
This is different from the others; it's cool. I know that your Bundle Identifier needs to match your iTunes Connect's version. I know you need to make a new AppleID through your dev app and not through Game Center. Most people get this fixed when they force quit their app and game center and launch theirs first. I am not one of those people. If I take the GKTapper tutorial and use my game's Bundle Identifier as the only change, things are good. On launch, it asks me if I want to use an existing or make a new account. But more importantly, it says * Sandbox *. (Before I log in, mind you; this is not an account problem at all.) Once inside I can see my achievements. If I load my game, I has a sad. On launch I get the same dialog, but it does not say Sandbox. My game is two weeks away from being done after many long months. Moving everything in to a new project is possible, but a pain. So the question is: What magic setting does GKTapper or a new project have that my game that I started in June does not that lets you get to Game Center's Sandbox?

  • UITableView with contact image problems.

    - by prathumca
As par my app requirement, I'm showing the contact images in a UITableView as shown below. ABRecordRef contact = [self getContact]; if(contact && ABPersonHasImageData(contact)) { UIImage *contactImage = [UIImage imageWithData:(NSData*)ABPersonCopyImageData(contact)]; callImage.image = contactImage; } I've two problems if I use the above code segment. Table Scrolling is too slow. If comment the above code, then UITable responds very fast. Memory Management. My app started using 25 - 30 MB of RAM. Is there any better way to avoid the above two problems?

  • How to track dealloc of an abstract object class (NSMutable...)

    - by Thomas Tempelmann
I have a bug in my code caused by a premature freeing of a ObjC object. I seem not to be able to find it by just looking at my code. There's usually a simple trick to track the dealloc to any class: Implement dealloc, and set a breakpoint. This even usually works with standard objects, by subclassing them and making sure I instantiate the subclass instead of the standard class. However, this does not seem to work with NSMutableArray, and probably neither with similar NSMutable... classes. Some explanations for this can be found here: link text Any other ideas how to track the dealloc invocation of a particular class or object so that I can see the call stack? It's probably possible with DTrace. Any pointers without having to read the entire dtrace docs first?

  • Navigationcontroller, why isnt this working?

    - by f0rz
Hi ! Why wont this work? View1 loads View2. In view2: - (void) goToView { View3 *plainText = [[Tabview_testViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"View3" bundle:nil]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:plainText animated: NO]; [plainText release]; } - (void)viewDidLoad { [self goToView]; [super viewDidLoad]; } This will not trigger navigationController to pushView, but if I add a button and setAction (goToView) it works perfectly. What kind of problem do I missing here? Regards

  • Accordion table cell - How to dynamically expand/contract uitableviewcell?

    - by s.newave
Hi, I am trying create an accordion type of uitableviewcell that, when the user selects the cell, it expands to display a detailed info view inline similar to how the digg app works. I initially tried replacing the current tablecell with a customcell in cellForRowAtIndex however the animation looks a bit choppy as you can see the cell being replaced and overall the effect doesnt work to well. If you look at the digg app and others who have done this it seems that they arent replacing the current cell but instead perhaps adding a subview to the cell? The original cell however doesnt seem to animate at all and only the new view accordions into the table. Does anyone have any ideas how to accomplish a similar effect?

  • simple image animation with the keyboard

    - by conorhiggins
Hi the app I am currently working on requires a simple animation to be performed, which I am able to do but timing is an issue. The app uses the slightly opaque keyboard and I have set up a black background to make it more visually pleasing . The app is a utility app and as the user clicks on a settings button the app will flip which looks great. However there is a problem at the moment in that while the app is flipping the keyboard also closes which itself looks great also, however the background remains. I was wondering if there was a way of animating the background image to follow the keyboard's animation pattern and speed? If I set up a discrete animation time the chances are there will be some sort of overlap and either the image will show too long or the keyboard will show too long. Any suggestions? Another option is to make the keyboard show constantly if anyone knows how to do that? i would rather animate it though as it is quite a simple app and so I would like to make it as aesthetically pleasing as possible. /Conor

  • @synthesize comma separated list

    - by Frooditz Furs
    Hi, I've read apple's Objective-C doc and am curious about using @synthesize. I've seen classes with a long list of @synthesizes and I've seen classes with one @synthesize then a long comma-separated list of ivars. So what's the difference between: @synthesize ivar1; @synthesize ivar2; @synthesize ivar3; and @synthesize ivar1, ivar2, ivar3; ????

  • How to change text on a back button

    - by Ilya
Hi, By default the back button uses as a text on it a title of a viewcontroller. Can I change text on the back button without changing a title of a view controller? I need this because I have a view controller which title is too long to display and in this case I would like to display just "Back" as a caption for back button. I tried the following which didn't work: self.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem.title = @"Back"; Thanks.

  • How do I get the CoreData Debug argument to output to the console?

    - by radesix
According to Apple documentation on debugging Core Data it says we should be able to pass an argument to the application which will output the SQL core data sends to SQLite. I have gone into the arguments tab of my executable in XCode and specified the argument: -com.apple.CoreData.SQLDebug 1 However, I see no SQL in the console. I then tried to use this parameter in the CoreDataBooks application provided by Apple just in case there was some other issue in MY program. Even in Apple's example I get no SQL output in the console. Am I doing something wrong? Is Apple's documentation wrong? Should I be looking someplace other than the console? Has anyone else had success with this argument?

  • UIView surface Detection

    - by Sanjay Darshil
In my code I crated two UIView View1 and View2 out of which View2 rotates on finger touch using CGAffineTransform and View1 is drawn like Arrow shaped (triangle) using CGContext. The View1 is steady view (fixed) which Points (shown directed Up) to the Surface of View2 , So I want to detect the View2 surface points when it stopped rotation and appears in front of the view1. How can I made this possible to detect the UIView Surface when it appears in front of another UIView?

  • How to listen to that property?

    - by mystify
@constant kAudioSessionProperty_AudioInputAvailable A UInt32 with a value other than zero when audio input is available. Use this property, rather than the device model, to determine if audio input is available. A listener will notify you when audio input becomes available. For instance, when a headset is attached to the second generation iPod Touch, audio input becomes available via the wired microphone. So, if I wanted to get notified about kAudioSessionProperty_AudioInputAvailable, how would I do that?

  • How to update a string property of an sqlite database item

    - by Thomas Joos
    hi all, I'm trying to write an application that checks if there is an active internet connection. If so it reads an xml and checks every 'lastupdated' item ( php generated string ). It compares it to the database items and if there is a new value, this particular item needs to be updated. My code seems to work ( compiles, no error messages, no failures, .. ) but I notice that the particular property does not change, it becomese (null). When I output the binded string value it returns the correct string value I want to update into the db.. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? const char *sql = "update myTable Set last_updated=? Where node_id =?"; sqlite3_stmt *statement; // Preparing a statement compiles the SQL query into a byte-code program in the SQLite library. // The third parameter is either the length of the SQL string or -1 to read up to the first null terminator. if (sqlite3_prepare_v2(database, sql, -1, &statement, NULL) == SQLITE_OK){ NSLog(@"last updated item: %@", [d lastupdated]); sqlite3_bind_text(statement, 1, [d lastupdated],-1,SQLITE_TRANSIENT); sqlite3_bind_int (statement, 2, [d node_id]); }else { NSLog(@"SQLite statement error!"); } if(SQLITE_DONE != sqlite3_step(statement)){ NSAssert1(0, @"Error while updating. '%s'", sqlite3_errmsg(database)); }else { NSLog(@"SQLite Update done!"); }

  • UIView capturing all events

    - by Josh P.
I have a UIView that uses several UIGestureRecognizers and this view again has at least one child view that contains a MPMoviePlayerController. When a touch event occurs over the movie player, the main view seems to 'eat' all the events, leaving the media player idle. How can I make sure that the events are delivered correctly to the player?
