  • Java Array Index Out of Bounds Exception

    - by user1302023
    I need help debugging the following program: I'm getting a run time error that reads: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: -1 at SearchEngine.main(SearchEngine.java:126) import java.util.*; import java.io.*; public class SearchEngine { public static int getNumberOfWords (File f) throws FileNotFoundException { int numWords = 0; Scanner scan = new Scanner(f); while (scan.hasNext()) { numWords++; scan.next(); } scan.close(); return numWords; } public static void readInWords (File input, String [] x) throws FileNotFoundException { Scanner scan = new Scanner(input); int i = 0; while (scan.hasNext() && i<x.length) { x[i] = scan.next(); i++; } scan.close(); } public static int getNumOfDistinctWords (File input, String [] x) throws FileNotFoundException { Scanner scan = new Scanner(input); int count = 0; int i = 1; while (scan.hasNext() && i<x.length) { if (!x[i].equals(x[i-1])) { count++; } i++; } scan.close(); return count; } public static void readInDistinctWords (String [] x, String [] y) { int i = 1; int k = 0; while (i<x.length) { if (!x[i].equals(x[i-1])) { y[k] = x[i]; k++; } i++; } } public static int getNumberOfLines (File input) throws FileNotFoundException { int numLines = 0; Scanner scan = new Scanner(input); while (scan.hasNextLine()) { numLines++; scan.nextLine(); } scan.close(); return numLines; } public static void readInLines (File input, String [] x) throws FileNotFoundException { Scanner scan = new Scanner(input); int i = 0; while (scan.hasNextLine() && i<x.length) { x[i] = scan.nextLine(); i++; } scan.close(); } public static void main(String [] args) { try { //gets file name System.out.println("Enter the name of the text file you wish to search"); Scanner kb = new Scanner(System.in); String fileName = kb.nextLine(); String TXT = ".txt"; if (!fileName.endsWith(TXT)) { fileName = fileName.concat(TXT); } File input = new File(fileName); //First part of creating index System.out.println("Creating vocabArray"); int NUM_WORDS = getNumberOfWords(input); //System.out.println(NUM_WORDS); String [] wordArray = new String[NUM_WORDS]; readInWords(input, wordArray); Arrays.sort(wordArray); int NUM_DISTINCT_WORDS = getNumOfDistinctWords(input, wordArray); String [] vocabArray = new String[NUM_DISTINCT_WORDS]; readInDistinctWords(wordArray, vocabArray); System.out.println("Finished creating vocabArray"); System.out.println("Creating concordanceArray"); int NUM_LINES = getNumberOfLines(input); String [] concordanceArray = new String[NUM_LINES]; readInLines(input, concordanceArray); System.out.println("Finished creating concordanceArray"); System.out.println("Creating invertedIndex"); int [][] invertedIndex = new int[NUM_DISTINCT_WORDS][10]; int [] wordCountArray = new int[NUM_DISTINCT_WORDS]; int lineNum = 0; while (lineNum<concordanceArray.length) { Scanner scan = new Scanner(concordanceArray[lineNum]); while (scan.hasNext()) { int wordPos = Arrays.binarySearch(vocabArray, scan.next()); wordCountArray[wordPos]+=1; for(int i = 0; i < invertedIndex.length; i++) { for(int j = 0; j < invertedIndex[i].length; j++) { if (invertedIndex[i][j] == 0) { invertedIndex[i][j] = lineNum; break; } } } } lineNum++; } System.out.println("Finished creating invertedIndex"); } catch (FileNotFoundException exception) { System.out.println("File Not Found"); } } //main } //class

  • Can you use zero-width matching regex in String split?

    - by polygenelubricants
System.out.println( Arrays.deepToString( "abc<def>ghi".split("(?:<)|(?:>)") ) ); This prints [abc, def, ghi], as if I had split on "<|>". I want it to print [abc, <def>, ghi]. Is there a way to work some regex magic to accomplish what I want here? Perhaps a simpler example: System.out.println( Arrays.deepToString( "Hello! Oh my!! Good bye!!".split("(?:!+)") ) ); This prints [Hello, Oh my, Good bye]. I want it to print [Hello!, Oh my!!, Good bye!!]. `.

  • asp.net how to add TemplateField programmatically for about 10 dropdownlist...

    - by dotnet-practitioner
    This is my third time asking this question. I am not getting good answers regarding this. I wish I could get some help but I will keep asking this question because its a good question and SO experts should not ignore this... So I have about 10 dropdownlist controls that I add manually in the DetailsView control manually like follows. I should be able to add this programmatically. Please help and do not ignore... <asp:DetailsView ID="dvProfile" runat="server" AutoGenerateRows="False" DataKeyNames="memberid" DataSourceID="SqlDataSource1" OnPreRender = "_onprerender" Height="50px" onm="" Width="125px"> <Fields> <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Your Gender"> <EditItemTemplate> <asp:DropDownList ID="ddlGender" runat="server" DataSourceid="ddlDAGender" DataTextField="Gender" DataValueField="GenderID" SelectedValue='<%#Bind("GenderID") %>' > </asp:DropDownList> </EditItemTemplate> <ItemTemplate > <asp:Label Runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("Gender") %>' ID="lblGender"></asp:Label> </ItemTemplate> so on and so forth... <asp:CommandField ShowEditButton="True" ShowInsertButton="True" /> </Fields> </asp:DetailsView> ======================================================= Added on 5/3/09 This is what I have so far and I still can not add the drop down list programmatically. private void PopulateItemTemplate(string luControl) { SqlDataSource ds = new SqlDataSource(); ds = (SqlDataSource)FindControl("ddlDAGender"); DataView dvw = new DataView(); DataSourceSelectArguments args = new DataSourceSelectArguments(); dvw = (DataView)ds.Select(args); DataTable dt = dvw.ToTable(); DetailsView dv = (DetailsView)LoginView2.FindControl("dvProfile"); TemplateField tf = new TemplateField(); tf.HeaderText = "Your Gender"; tf.ItemTemplate = new ProfileItemTemplate("Gender", ListItemType.Item); tf.EditItemTemplate = new ProfileItemTemplate("Gender", ListItemType.EditItem); dv.Fields.Add(tf); } public class ProfileItemTemplate : ITemplate { private string ctlName; ListItemType _lit; private string _strDDLName; private string _strDVField; private string _strDTField; private string _strSelectedID; private DataTable _dt; public ProfileItemTemplate(string strDDLName, string strDVField, string strDTField, DataTable dt ) { _dt = dt; _strDDLName = strDDLName; _strDVField = strDVField; _strDTField = strDTField; } public ProfileItemTemplate(string strDDLName, string strDVField, string strDTField, string strSelectedID, DataTable dt ) { _dt = dt; _strDDLName = strDDLName; _strDVField = strDVField; _strDTField = strDTField; _strSelectedID = strSelectedID; } public ProfileItemTemplate(string ControlName, ListItemType lit) { ctlName = ControlName; _lit = lit; } public void InstantiateIn(Control container) { switch(_lit) { case ListItemType.Item : Label lbl = new Label(); lbl.DataBinding += new EventHandler(this.ddl_DataBinding_item); container.Controls.Add(lbl); break; case ListItemType.EditItem : DropDownList ddl = new DropDownList(); ddl.DataBinding += new EventHandler(this.lbl_DataBinding); container.Controls.Add(ddl); break; } } private void ddl_DataBinding_item(object sender, EventArgs e) { DropDownList ddl = (DropDownList)sender; ddl.ID = _strDDLName; ddl.DataSource = _dt; ddl.DataValueField = _strDVField; ddl.DataTextField = _strDVField; } private void lbl_DataBinding(object sender, EventArgs e) { Label lbl = (Label)sender; lbl.ID = "lblGender"; DropDownList ddl = (DropDownList)sender; ddl.ID = _strDDLName; ddl.DataSource = _dt; ddl.DataValueField = _strDVField; ddl.DataTextField = _strDTField; for (int i = 0; i < _dt.Rows.Count; i++) { if (_strSelectedID == _dt.Rows[i][_strDVField].ToString()) { ddl.SelectedIndex = i; } } lbl.Text = ddl.SelectedValue; } } Please help me....

  • What is the best way to organize object oriented code?

    - by Adam
I haven't coded in java for a long time, and after coding in C, I'm having issued organizing my code for OOP. More specifically I'm not sure when to create a new method, and when to create a new class, and when to just lump everything together. Are there some general rules or guidelines on how it should be done?

  • AS3: Removing EventListeners without knowing amount or names

    - by DevEight
Hello! First shortly about how my site works: When a link is clicked it checks if something is already displayed in either the Left or Right side of the screen (the website looks like a book, so I have a left page I want to display information on and a right page). If there is already something showing it hides it and displays the new object, together with this it enables all the buttons within that object (I have separate functions to set up each object). An example of such an EventListener would be: pathTo.Button1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, function():void {showText(side, object)}); What I'm trying to do is to remove all the previous set EventListeners without having to create separate functions for removing the links inside every object as well. Shorter version: How do I remove all EventListeners on all objects inside another object? The only variable I want to store is the object containing everything. There are however not always EventListeners within the objects.

  • regex: trim all strings directly preceeded by digit except if string belongs to predefined set of st

    - by Geert-Jan
I've got addresses I need to clean up for matching purposes. Part of the process is trimming unwanted suffices from housenumbers, e.g: mainstreet 4a --> mainstreet 4. However I don't want: 618 5th Ave SW --> 618 5 Ave SW in other words there are some strings (for now: st, nd, rd, th) which I don't want to strip. What would be the best method of doing this (regex or otherwise) ? a wokring regex without the exceptions would be: a = a.replaceAll("(^| )([0-9]+)[a-z]+($| )","$1$2$3"); //replace 1a --> 1 I thought about first searching and substiting the special cases with special characters while keeping the references in a map, then do the above regex, and then doing the reverse substitute using the reference map, but I'm looking for a simpler solution. Thanks

  • RegExp to validate a formula (string/boolean/numeric expression)?

    - by JSteve
I have used regExp quit a bit of times but still far from being an expert. This time I want to validate a formula (or math expression) by regExp. The difficult part here is to validate proper starting and ending parentheses with in the formula. I believe, there would be some sample on the web but I could not find it. Can somebody post a link for such example? or help me by some other means?

  • With javascript, is it possible to define a variable's name with another string value?

    - by Joren
Example, I have an array called 'categories' with the value ['4','9']. I'm trying to use that value with the name of a previously defined array. I have several arrays defined earlier called row1, row2, row3 etc. I'm also using jQuery. Trying to do something like this: for (i=0; i<categories.length; i++) { row+categories[i].push($(this).attr('id')); console.log(row+categories[i]); } Obviously row+categories[i] doesn't work, but maybe gives you an idea of what I'm trying to do? In this case to push that id value onto the array 'row4' the first time it loops through and then 'row9' the second time. Thanks for your help!!

  • How to take html markup from a string and escape it to work within a script?

    - by zac
I am using wordpress as a CMS and trying to allow user fields to be input to populate the info windows in a Google Map script. I am using this to select the id and pull in the content from a custom field : $post_id = 222; $my_post = get_post($post_id); $snip = get_post_meta($post_id, 'custom-field', true); $permalink = get_permalink( $post_id ); $pass_to = '<div class="content">'.$snip.'</div><div class="moreLink"><a href="'.$permalink.'">Find out more » </a></div></div>'; var point = new GLatLng('<?php echo $lat; $lat; ?>','<?php echo $long; $long; ?>'); var marker = createMarker(point,"<?php echo $mapTitle; $mapTitle; ?>", '<?php echo $pass_to; ?>') map.addOverlay(marker); It works fine unless there is any html in the custom-field which breaks the script. I looked at htmlspcialchar and htmlentities but rather than strip everything out I would like to have it escaped so it still works and the html is intact. Any suggestions? I am pretty new to PHP and would really appreciate any pointers.

  • Is there a faster method then StringBuilder for a max 9-10 step string concatenation?

    - by Pentium10
I have this code to concate some array elements: StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); private RatedMessage joinMessage(int step, boolean isresult) { sb.delete(0, sb.length()); for (int i = 0; i <= step; i++) { if (mStack[i] == null) continue; rm = mStack[i].getCurrentMsg(); if (rm == null || rm.msg.length() == 0) continue; if (sb.length() != 0) { sb.append(", "); } sb.append(rm.msg); } return sb.toString(); } Important the array holds max 10 items, so it's not quite much. My trace output tells me this method is called 18864 times, 16% of the runtime was spent in this method. Can I optimize more?

  • Using the MongoDB Ruby driver in Rails? (without an object mapper)

    - by Mark L
I have recently been getting my feet wet in MongoDB using Mongoid w/ Rails 3, but I'm now interested in learning the low level MongoDB features using only the Ruby driver, and trying some map/reduce that would not be possible through Mongoid (afaik) I'm not entirely sure where in Rails I should be setting up the db connections etc, and any pointers would be much appreciated!

  • Cannot pass null to server using jQuery AJAX. Value received at the server is the string "null".

    - by Tom
I am converting a javascript/php/ajax application to use jQuery to ensure compatibility with browsers other than Firefox. I am having trouble passing true, false, and null values using jQuery's ajax function. Javascript code: $.ajax ( { url : <server_url>, dataType: 'json', type : 'POST', success : receiveAjaxMessage, data: { valueTrue : true, valueFalse : false, valueNull : null } } ); PHP code: var_dump($_POST); Server output: array(3) { ["valueTrue"]=> string(4) "true" ["valueFalse"]=> string(5) "false" ["valueNull"]=> string(4) "null" } The problem is that the null, true, and false values are being converted to strings. The Javascript AJAX code currently in use passes null, true, and false correctly but only works in Firefox. Does anyone know how to solve this problem using jQuery? Here is some working code (not using jQuery) to compare with the code not-working code given above. Javascript Code: ajaxPort.send ( <server_url>, { valueTrue : true, valueFalse : false, valueNull : null } ); PHP code: var_dump(json_decode(file_get_contents('php://input'), true)); Server output: array(3) { ["valueTrue"]=> bool(true) ["valueFalse"]=> bool(false) ["valueNull"]=> NULL } Note that the null, true, and false values are correctly received. Note also that in the second method the $_POST array is not used in the PHP code. I think this is the key to the problem, but I cannot find a way to replicate this behavior using jQuery.

  • If file contains certain text, how can I extract a string from the file and input it into a cell? (VBA)

    - by Kristina Kotonika
Say I have the following path and file name: P:\Actuary\Cash Flow Forecast\Annual and Quarterly Budget Data\ECMQA 2012Q1.xls I want to write an if then statement that does the following (not sure if my statement is set up properly): If InStr(1, "P:\Actuary\Cash Flow Forecast\Annual and Quarterly Budget Data\ECMQA 2012Q1.xls", "QA", vbTextCompare) > 0 Then BD.Sheets("Sheet1").Range("C2").value = "2012Q1" End If Instead of just inputting "2012Q1", I want it to automatically read this from the file. The thing is I am actually looping through 12 or so files and there's two types, "ECMQA 2012Q1.xls" (or ECMQB 2012Q2.xls and so on) AND "ECM Annual Budget 2012.xlsx" If my file is the annual one (If file contains "Annual"), then I want: BD.Sheets("Sheet1").Range("C2").value = "2012" And i want it to read this from the actual file, same as the other one...not me putting in "2012" Is there a way to do this? Any help will be appreciated!

  • Is there a way to prevent a string of letters with no spaces from overflowing out of its correspondi

    - by Scarface
The question is pretty straight forward, I have tried using a span with rules set to clear:both; and display:block;, at the bottom of each list entry where the text is being inserted in with no luck. I am not really sure what to do on this. I don't expect to many entries with long consecutive letter strings but for example if someone does lolololololol or ahaahahahhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaa for like 100 letters, it will overflow. If anyone can give me a pointer I would really appreciate it.

  • How to use email adresses with special chars such as Ø

    - by Sir Code-A-Lot
By writing this: var recipient = new MailAddress("name@abcø.dk"); Notice the "ø" in the domain part. I get an exception stating: System.FormatException: The specified string is not in the form required for an e-mail address. at System.Net.Mime.MailBnfHelper.ReadMailAddress(String data, Int32& offset, String& displayName) at System.Net.Mail.MailAddress.ParseValue(String address) at System.Net.Mail.MailAddress..ctor(String address, String displayName, Encoding displayNameEncoding) at System.Net.Mail.MailAddress..ctor(String address) The address used should be perfectly valid. So I'm guessing I have to encode the address somehow?

  • jQuery Click event on object added with JavaScript not working.

    - by Hultner
I'm work on a quiz for school but I've bumped into a problem. I got a javascript file for custom radio buttons (CUSTOM FORM ELEMNTS by Ryan Fait if it's helping). The script hides the input buttons and adds custom styled spans instead. Now what I want, when I click one of these JavaScript added spans I want to remove disabled for a button called "Next Question" which when pressed takes you to the next question. The reason for this is that I don't want people to accidently got to the next question without choosing a answer. The problem is when I press the added spans nothing happens but when I press another identical span which I have added in the html it works just as intended. The span got the class radio which is the class I'm looking for in the jQuery. Here's the test page with the error on: http://hultner.se/graphicsquiz/livetest/livetest.php Short: Can't get jQuery .click() functions to work with spans added using JavaScript earlier in the document.
