• ubuntu stuck in a login loop after editing profile file

  I'm stuck in a login loop now. What I did was edited /etc/profile as root and added the following line export PATH = /opt/my jdk 7 path/bin:$PATH After logging out and tried to login, I cannot I have tried booting in recovery mode, entered root prompt and tried to edit the file in vi but it always opens in read only mode and hence cannot be saved. I just need a way to delete that line and boot into ubuntu again. Please help me out guys..

• Kicked back to log in screen immediately after log in

  I am running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and whenever I try to log in using my main account, it kicks me back to log in screen. My other accounts don't do this however. I also tried to read .xsessions-errors using cat but it would output gpg-agent[7156]: failed to run the command: No such file or directory I can also log in my main account with tty. How can I fix it so I can log into my main account again?

  I decided to learn about Balance search trees, so I picked 2-3-4 and splay trees. I'm wondering what are the examples of splay trees usage in the real world? In this Cornell: http://www.cs.cornell.edu/courses/cs3110/2009fa/recitations/rec-splay.html I read that splay trees are 'A good example is a network router'. But from rest of the explanation seams like network routers use hash tables and not splay trees since the lookup time is constant instead of O(log n). thanks!

• What does the python Codecs module do?

  I just read through the documentation on the Codecs module, but I guess my knowledge/experience of comp sci doesn't run deep enough yet for me to comprehend it. It's for dealing with encoding/decoding, especially Unicode, and while to many of you that's a complete and perfect explanation, to me that's really vague.   Today Microsoft has released a new cumulative update for SQL Server 2008 SP3. KB article: KB #2771833 There are 9 fixes listed at the time of writing The build number is 10.00.5828.00 Relevant for @@VERSION between 10.00.5500 and 10.00.5827 It seems clear that Service Pack 2 servicing has been discontinued. So there is even less reason to hold onto those old builds, and every reason to upgrade to Service Pack 3 . • arduino not recongnized by Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

  I installed Ubuntu 14.04 on my acer netbook D255E, its currently running a crucial SSD 256G 500read 333write and a 2G RAM card with the crappy Intel Atom processor. i'm fairly new to Ubuntu and I cant get the system to even acknowledge I plugged the Arduino Uno microcontroller connected to the USB port. can anyone offer a solution to this, I've read up on a few how-tos online on my desktop but they're all for older versions of ubuntu.

• Quality of Code in unit tests?

  Is it worth to spend time when writing unit tests in order that the code written there has good quality and is very easy to read? When writing this kinds of tests I break very often the Law of Demeter, for faster writing and not using so many variables. Technically, unit tests are not reused directly - are strictly bound to the code so I do not see any reason for spending much time on them; they only need to be functionaly.
