  • Authenticating users in iPhone app

    - by Myron
I'm developing an HTTP api for our web application. Initially, the primary consumer of the API will be an iPhone app we're developing, but I'm designing this with future uses in mind (such as mobile apps for other platforms). I'm trying to decide on the best way to authenticate users so they can access their accounts from the iPhone. I've got a design that I think works well, but I'm no security expert, so I figured it would be good to ask for feedback here. The design of the user authentication has 3 primary goals: Good user experience: We want to allow users to enter their credentials once, and remain logged in indefinitely, until they explicitly log out. I would have considered OAuth if not for the fact that the experience from an iPhone app is pretty awful, from what I've heard (i.e. it launches the login form in Safari, then tells the user to return to the app when authentication succeeds). No need to store the user creds with the app: I always hate the idea of having the user's password stored in either plain text or symmetrically encrypted anywhere, so I don't want the app to have to store the password to pass it to the API for future API requests. Security: We definitely don't need the intense security of a banking app, but I'd obviously like this to be secure. Overall, the API is REST-inspired (i.e. treating URLs as resources, and using the HTTP methods and status codes semantically). Each request to the API must include two custom HTTP headers: an API Key (unique to each client app) and a unique device ID. The API requires all requests to be made using HTTPS, so that the headers and body are encrypted. My plan is to have an api_sessions table in my database. It has a unique constraint on the API key and unique device ID (so that a device may only be logged into a single user account through a given app) as well as a foreign key to the users table. The API will have a login endpoint, which receives the username/password and, if they match an account, logs the user in, creating an api_sessions record for the given API key and device id. Future API requests will look up the api_session using the API key and device id, and, if a record is found, treat the request as being logged in under the user account referenced by the api_session record. There will also be a logout API endpoint, which deletes the record from the api_sessions table. Does anyone see any obvious security holes in this?

  • Doctrine: Mixing YAML markup and db manager (navicat) editing?

    - by ropstah
I think the answer to this question should be: No. However I hope to be corrected. I'd like to edit our database using a mixture of YAML markup + Doctrine createTables() and Navicat editing. Can I maintain the inheritance which is marked up? Example (4 steps, at step 4, Doctrine is in no way able to re-create the inheritance schema... or is it?): Step 1: Create YAML with inheritance --- Entity: columns: username: string(20) password: string(16) created_at: timestamp updated_at: timestamp User: inheritance: extends: Entity type: column_aggregation keyField: type keyValue: 1 Group: inheritance: extends: Entity type: column_aggregation keyField: type keyValue: 2 Step 2: Create tables using Doctrine (and drop/create db if nessecary) Created sql: CREATE TABLE entity (id BIGINT AUTO_INCREMENT, username VARCHAR(20), password VARCHAR(16), created_at DATETIME, updated_at DATETIME, type VARCHAR(255), PRIMARY KEY(id)) ENGINE = INNODB Step 3: Edit table using Navicat Step 4: Refresh YAML file because of 'external' edits...

  • Store data in Ruby on Rails without Database

    - by snowmaninthesun
I have a few data values that I need to store on my rails app and wanted to know if there are any alternatives to creating a database table just to do this simple task. Background: I'm writing some analytics and dashboard tools for my ruby on rails app and i'm hoping to speed up the dashboard by caching results that will never change. Right now I pull all users for the last 30 days, and re arange them so I can see the number of new users per day. It works great but takes quite a long time, in reality I should only need to calculate the most recent day and just store the rest of the array somewhere else. Where is the best way to store this array? Creating a database table seems a bit overkill, and i'm not sure that global variables are the correct answer. Is there a best practice for persisting data like this? If anyone has done anything like this before let me know what you did and how it turned out.

  • Dynamically created textboxes and changes plus jQuery in ASP.NET?

    - by gazeebo
    Hi all, I was wondering how to read off a value from a textbox that resides in a partialview and output the value into a textbox within the initial window. Here's my code... <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function (e) { // Calculate the sum when the document has been loaded. var total = 0; $("#fieldValues :input.fieldKronor").each(function (e) { total += Number($(this).val()); }); // Set the value to the correspondent textbox $("#fieldSummation").text(total); // Re-calculate on change $("#fieldValues :input.fieldKronor").change(function (e) { var total = 0; $("#fieldValues :input.fieldKronor").each(function (e) { total += Number($(this).val()); }); $("#fieldSummation").text(total); }); }); </script> Here's the table where in info is... <table id="fieldValues" style="width: 60%; margin-bottom: 2em"> <thead> <tr> <th>Rubrik, t.ex. teknik*</th> <th>Kronor (ange endast siffror)*</th> </tr> </thead> <asp:Panel ID="pnlStaffRows" runat="server"></asp:Panel> <tfoot> <tr> <th></th> <th>Total kostnad</th> </tr> <tr> <td></td> <td><input type="text" value="" class="fieldSummation" style="width:120px" /></td> </tr> </tfoot> </table> And here's the partialview... <tr> <td class="greyboxchildsocialsecuritynumberheading4" style="padding-bottom:1em"> <asp:TextBox ID="txtRubrikBox" ToolTip="Rubrik" runat="server" Width="120"></asp:TextBox> </td> <td class="greyboxchildnameheading3" style="padding-bottom:1em"> <asp:TextBox ID="txtKronorBox" class="fieldKronor" ToolTip="Kronor" runat="server" Width="120"></asp:TextBox> </td> </tr>

  • No difference between nullable:true and nullable:false in Grails 1.3.6?

    - by knorv
The following domain model definition .. class Test { String a String b static mapping = { version(false) table("test_table") a(nullable: false) b(nullable: true) } } .. yields the following MySQL schema .. CREATE TABLE test_table ( id bigint(20) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, a varchar(255) NOT NULL, b varchar(255) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (id) ) ENGINE=InnoDB DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8; Please note that a and b get identical MySQL column definitions despite the fact a is defined as non-nullable and b is nullable in the GORM mappings. What am I doing wrong? I'm running Grails 1.3.6.

  • MySQL Multiple "AND" Query

    - by Mark J
I have a table with 2 columns (see below). A member can have multiple responses to a question RESPONSES --------- member_id INT response_id INT SAMPLE DATA member_id -- response_id 1 -- 3 1 -- 5 2 -- 1 2 -- 5 2 -- 9 3 -- 1 3 -- 5 3 -- 6 What I need to do is query the table for member that meet ALL response criteria. For example I need to select all members that have a response_id of 1 AND 5. I am using the following query: SELECT DISTINCT member_id FROM responses WHERE response_id = 1 AND response_id = 5. I would expect to get back member_id's 2,3. However I am getting nothing returned. I used EXPLAIN and it shows there is an error in my where query. What am I doing wrong? Also, is there a function similar to IN where all the criteria must be met in order to return true? Thanks for your help.

  • How to make image's background transparency to 0?

    - by pheromix
There are images displayed inside a HTML table in a PHP code : The code of this table is : for ($i = 0; $i < $data['list']['cnt']; $i++) { $tabRows[$i][1]['width'] = "45%"; $tabRows[$i][1]['align'] = "center"; $tabRows[$i][1]['value'] = '<img src="'.HTTP_FIGURES.$data['list'][$i]['fig_image'].'" />'; } As you can see the background of the images are seen and they make the page dirty. So I want to remove the background of each image. How to do that ?

  • Are conditional subqueries optimized out, if the condition is false?

    - by Tobias Schulte
I have a table foo and a table bar, where each foo might have a bar (and a bar might belong to multiple foos). Now I need to select all foos with a bar. My sql looks like this SELECT * FROM foo f WHERE [...] AND ($param IS NULL OR (SELECT ((COUNT(*))>0) FROM bar b WHERE f.bar = b.id)) with $param being replaced at runtime. The question is: Will the subquery be executed even if param is null, or will the dbms optimize the subquery out? We are using mysql, mssql and oracle. Is there a difference between these regarding the above?

  • Fulltext search not returning expected results

    - by Puneet
I am experimenting with SQL Server full text search. I have a simple Categories table with Id as the primary key: CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Category]( [Id] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, [CategoryName] [varchar](100) NOT NULL, ) My Query is: SELECT * FROM FREETEXTTABLE (Category, CategoryName, 'music') AS F INNER JOIN Category C ON F.[Key] = C.Id ORDER BY F.Rank DESC This returns me several records with the word music in them, but it does NOT return any record with word ‘musical’. Although, it can be said that the string being searched is not very big and using the LIKE operator will resolve it. I would like to use fulltext search because this simple example is going to be extended to include other tables and fileds.

  • Oracle: Finding Columns with only null values

    - by Jorge Valois
I have a table with a lot of columns and a type column. Some columns seem to be always empty for a specific type. I want to create a view for each type and only show the relevant columns for each type. Working under the assumption that if a column has ONLY null values for a specific type, then that columns should not be part of the view, how can you find that out with queries? Is there a SELECT [columnName] FROM [table] WHERE [columnValues] ARE ALL [null] I know I COMPLETELY made it all up above... I'm just trying to get the idea across. Thanks in advance!

  • â?? in my hmtl after purify

    - by mmcgrail
    I have a database the i am rebuilding the table structure was crap so I'm porting some of the data from one table to another. This data appears to have been copy past from MSO product so as I'm getting the data I clean it up with htmlpurifier and some alittle str_replace in php here the clean function function clean_html($html) { $config = HTMLPurifier_Config::createDefault(); $config->set('AutoFormat','RemoveEmpty',true); $config->set('HTML','AllowedAttributes','href,src'); $config->set('HTML','AllowedElements','p,em,strong,a,ul,li,ol,img'); $purifier = new HTMLPurifier($config); $html = $purifier->purify($html); $html = str_replace('&nbsp;',' ',$html); $html = str_replace("\r",'',$html); $html = str_replace("\n",'',$html); $html = str_replace("\t",'',$html); $html = str_replace(' ',' ',$html); $html = str_replace('<p> </p>','',$html); $html = str_replace(chr(160),' ',$html); return trim($html); } but when I put the results into my new table and out put them to the ckeditor I get those three characters. I then have a javascript function that is called to remove special characters from the content of the ckeditor too. it doesn't clean it either function remove_special(str) { var rExps=[ /[\xC0-\xC2]/g, /[\xE0-\xE2]/g, /[\xC8-\xCA]/g, /[\xE8-\xEB]/g, /[\xCC-\xCE]/g, /[\xEC-\xEE]/g, /[\xD2-\xD4]/g, /[\xF2-\xF4]/g, /[\xD9-\xDB]/g, /[\xF9-\xFB]/g, /\xD1/,/\xF1/g, "/[\u00a0|\u1680|[\u2000-\u2009]|u200a|\u200b|\u2028|\u2029|\u202f|\u205f|\u3000|\xa0]/g", /\u000b/g,'/[\u180e|\u000c]/g', /\u2013/g, /\u2014/g, /\xa9/g,/\xae/g,/\xb7/g,/\u2018/g,/\u2019/g,/\u201c/g,/\u201d/g,/\u2026/g]; var repChar=['A','a','E','e','I','i','O','o','U','u','N','n',' ','\t','','-','--','(c)','(r)','*',"'","'",'"','"','...']; for(var i=0; i<rExps.length; i++) { str=str.replace(rExps[i],repChar[i]); } for (var x = 0; x < str.length; x++) { charcode = str.charCodeAt(x); if ((charcode < 32 || charcode > 126) && charcode !=10 && charcode != 13) { str = str.replace(str.charAt(x), ""); } } return str; } Does anyone know off hand what I need to do to get rid of them.   • How do I search nodes of XML document for text? Or convert to SQL tables?

    - by netefficacy
Hi I have an XML file and would like to run a search on the nodes for text that matches user input. My options are: Convert the XML file to a SQL table and run the search against the table records. Search the XML nodes themselves. The problem is that I cannot find a open source conversion utility, nor can I figure out how to search the XML nodes. I can use PHP, Ruby, or Python for the search code. Any pointers on how can I do 1 or 2? Thanks

  • effective counter for unique number of visits in PHP & MySQL

    - by Adnan
Hello, I am creating a counter for unique number of visits on a post, so what I have until now is a table for storing data like this; cvp_post_id | cvp_ip | cvp_user_id In cases a registered user visits a post, for the first time a record is inserted with cpv_post_id and cvp_user_id, so for his next visit I query the table and if the record is available I do not count him as a new visitor. In cases of an anonymous user the same happens but now the cvp_ip and cpv_post_id are used. My concerns is that I do a query every time anyone visits a post for checking if there has been a visit, what would be a more effective way for doing this?

  • Add Many-to-Many Entity Framework

    - by tomcamara
I've got a question: I have 3 tables: Users Menu UserMenu UserMenu contains IdMenu and IdUser. In My DataModel Entity Framework 4.0, I'm filling my User Model and filling User.Menu (Menu is Navigation Properties) with an existing Menu of my table Menu. I have to save User and Save each related menu item in UserMenu table. I get the following exception: The ObjectStateManager does not contain an ObjectStateEntry with a reference to an object of type 'SGGED.Model.Menu'. Code Users objUser = new Users(); objUser.name = itemUsers.name.Trim(); objUser.email = itemUsers.email.Trim(); objUser.password = Util.HashString("12345"); objUser.effdt = DateTime. Now; objData.Users.AddObject(objUser); foreach (var itemMenu in itemUsers.Menu) { objData.ObjectStateManager.ChangeObjectState(itemMenu, EntityState.Unchanged); } affRows = objData.SaveChanges(); Whats the way to handle this issue? • Complicated Order By Clause?

    - by Todd
Hi. I need to do what to me is an advanced sort. I have this two tables: Table: Fruit fruitid | received | basketid 1 20100310 2 2 20091205 3 3 20100220 1 4 20091129 2 Table: Basket id | name 1 Big Discounts 2 Premium Fruit 3 Standard Produce I'm not even sure I can plainly state how I want to sort (which is probably a big part of the reason I can't seem to write code to do it, lol). I do a join query and need to sort so everything is organized by basketid. The basketid that has the oldest fruit.received date comes first, then the other rows with the same basketid by date asc, then the basketid with the next earliest fruit.received date followed by the other rows with the same basketid, and so on. So the output would look like this: Fruitid | Received | Basket 4 20091129 Premuim Fruit 1 20100310 Premuim Fruit 2 20091205 Standard Produce 3 20100220 Big Discounts Any ideas how to accomplish this in a single execution?

  • What will happen if I change the type of a column from int to year?

    - by MachinationX
I have a table in MySQL 4.0 which currently has a year field as a smallint(6) type. What will happen if I convert it directly to a Year type with a query like the following: ALTER TABLE t MODIFY y YEAR(4) NOT NULL DEFAULT CURRENT_TIMESTAMP; When the current members of column y have values like 2010? I assume that because the year type is technically values from 1-255, values above that will be truncated or broken. So if MySQL isn't smart enough to realize that 2010(int) = 110(year), what would be the simplest query or queries to convert the values? Thanks for your help!

  • SQL Query takes about 10 - 20 minutes

    - by masfenix
I have a select from (nothing to complex) Select * from VIEW This view has about 6000 records and about 40 columns. It comes from a Lotus Notes SQL database. So my ODBC drive is the LotusNotesSQL driver. The query takes about 30 seconds to execute. The company I worked for used EXCEL to run the query and write everything to the worksheet. Since I am assuming it writes everything cell by cell, it used to take up to 30 - 40 minutes to complete. I then used MS access. I made a replica local table on Access to store the data. My first try was INSERT INTO COLUMNS OF LOCAL TABLE FROM (SELECT * FROM VIEW) note that this is pseudocode. This ran successfully, but again took up to 20 - 30 minutes. Then I used VBA to loop through the data and insert it in manually (using an INSERT statement) for each seperate record. This took about 10 - 15 minutes. This has been my best case yet. What i need to do after: After i have the data, I need to filter through it by department. The thing is if I put a where clause in the SQL query (the time jumps from 30 seconds to execute the query, to about 10 minutes + the time to write to local table/excel). I dont know why. MAYBE because the columns are all text columns? If we change some of the columns to integer, would that make it faster in terms of the where clause? I am looking for suggestions on how to approach this. My boss has said we could employ some Java based solution. Will this help? I am not a java person but a c#, and maybe I'll convince them to use c# as well, but i am mainly looking for suggestions on how to cut down the time. I've already cut it down from 40 minutes to 10 minutes, but the want it under 2 minutes. Just to recap: Query takes about 30 seconds to exceute Query takes about 15 - 40 minutes to be used locally in excel/acess Need it under 2 minutes Could use java based solution You may suggest other solutions instead of java.

  • Create "INSERT" statements from mySQL database in Java

Does anyone know of any good libraries or scripts out there which will allow me to point to any mySQL table and automatically get a list of all the INSERT statements for the data in the table? DdlUtils allows me to create an XML file from a database model but I would like to have it in INSERT statements format and preferably the ability to choose a couple of tables instead of dumping the entire database. Thanks. EDIT: I need it to be a Java API because I want to programatically call it from my Java method.
