  • How to transfer large files from desktop to server ( .NET)

    - by rahulchandran
I am writing a .NET 2.0 based desktop client that will send large files ( well largish under 2GB) to a server. Need to develop the server as well. Server can be on any technology It should be secure so an underlying SSL stream is needed What are my options. Any obvious caveats etc I should be aware of To my mind the simplest solution is to open a tcp\ip connection over SSL to the server and send n packets each of size M bytes and then have the server append the chunks to the file and finally send an EOF packet as well IS this horrible. Will the perf suck on the server with all these disk writes What are any other clever options. I am limited to .NET 2.0 on the client if I did move to a WCF client will it buy be something magical and cool for this scenario Thanks

  • Net Neutrality FAIL [closed]

    - by leeand00
I know I'll get into all kinds of trouble for bringing this up on SO, but considering that nearly all of us programmers depend on the Internet to get our jobs done, I really think it's worth looking into today's failure of our right to use the Internet by way of Lobbying ISPs. Although something tells me there will be retribution for the actions of the ISPs/tel cos/cable and their lobbyist since, lets face it...ISPs/Telcos didn't invent the Internet. I'm not going to be the one to do it, but um I think somebody already has...as everybody I talked to was having Internet connection problems today at work. Just thought this might be relevant to all of our jobs...in the U.S.A. at least. If you work at an Big evil ISPs, by all means...try and close this question. If you don't...and your just a chap who enjoys your Internet access...please RT this: Contact The Democrats Who Are Against Net Neutrality (Full List W/ Contact Info) http://bit.ly/aMSV0W #NetNeutralityFAIL net-neutrality

  • Does anyone have an updated version of the SQLite .NET assembly, ie. SQLite 3.6.23.1 + possibly .NET

    - by Lasse V. Karlsen
I'm at my wits end with the best .NET assembly version of SQLite, the one found at http://sqlite.phxsoftware.com. The only maintainer doesn't seem to have the time to update the library and it generally takes months, if not more, for newer versions to surface. Luckily, he has published the source code, so I'm hoping that someone else has made his/her own copy of it, and made the changes, and would be willing to share a copy. I've seen comments on the forums for the library to this effect, but sadly even the forum software seems to be grinding to a halt these days as password reminder emails seems to be lost to the big void, so I can't ask the few there that has said they have done it. So I'm here, hopefully the big userbase of StackOverflow can help. What I'm looking for: Updated with the latest changes to SQLite, ie. SQLite version 3.6.23.1 Possibly built for .NET 4.0 (I can do that if I can get a copy of working source) Does anyone have, or know of anyone, that has done this?

  • What FIX implementation do you recommend for use with .NET

    - by Ajaxx
I am reviewing implementation choices for FIX when using .NET. A few obvious choices come to mind, but I want to know if there are other options, better choices or if we've made the same decision as a lot of you. QuickFIX - Stable, C++ implementation - so you've got unmanaged code to interop with. FIX4NET - C# implementation - seems to have some gaps in its implementation. DIY - Chime in here if you've made your own FIX engine Let me throw in some caveats here. I'm not looking for sub 100 microsecond processing. Performance is a requirement, but not so much that it's driving my decisions. A solid product that is stable, performs well and is flexible enough to deal with vendor specific dialects is the sweet spot. The more we can do in .NET the better.

  • JsonIgnore attributes not working in ASP.NET?

    - by Geoffrey
I've got an object in my project with circular references. I've put [JsonIgnore] above the field like so: [JsonIgnore] public virtual Foobar ChildObject { get; set; } I'm still getting circular reference errors when I serialize the object. The only fields that do not have JsonIgnore are string fields and should not cause this. Is there something else I need to do to get JsonIgnore to work? Thanks!

  • Getting JQuery UI Sortable to work on asp.net ListView items?

    - by Xaisoft
I have the following ListView in which I am using the JQuery UI sortable function to be able to sort the items in the ListView. The problem is that I can't put a sortable class on the table in the ItemTemplate because it does not work, if I put a class="sortable" on the outer div, it works, but it allows me to sort everything within the ListView, I just want to be able to move sort the tables. Here is the markup <div> //Works here, but hr's become sortable too. <asp:ListView ID="lvwDocuments" runat="server"> <LayoutTemplate> <h3> Documents</h3> <asp:PlaceHolder ID="itemPlaceHolder" runat="server"> </asp:PlaceHolder> </LayoutTemplate> <ItemTemplate> <table class="sortable"> //Does not work Here <tr> <td> <p class="title"> <a runat="server" href='<%#Eval("url") %>'> <%#Eval("title") %></a></p> <br /> <p> <%#Eval("description") %></p> </td> </tr> </table> </ItemTemplate> <ItemSeparatorTemplate> <hr /> </ItemSeparatorTemplate> </div> Also, How can I preserve the sort order even after the page is refreshed.

  • Referencing control on one form from another form VB.NET

    - by Tom
My gosh man, why is this so complicated in VB.NET? As you can guess, I'm kind of new to .NET and just want to reference a control on one form from another. Usually I would just do Form.Control.Property but that doesn't work and every example I've found through Google doesn't work for me. It just seems overly complicated with public classes, etc. Is there a more simpler way to do this? I'm ready to throw in the towel and just use a global variable at this point. I have the form containing the control I want to reference, frmGenerate which has a textbox called txtCustomerNo. From this form through a button's click event I want to show another form, frmCustomers, and have that form reference the value in txtCustomerNo. frmCustomers.ShowDialog() It has to be something simple that I'm just not grasping. Thanks.

  • Popular .NET Compact Framework open source applications / components

    - by ollifant
In my company I am responsible for the development of a .NET CF application which runs on top of Windows CE. We have invested much time in the development of a GUI framework, a top-level design which handles authorizations and navigation on the device, a IoC customer, ... Now I was wondering if there are any other projects which show kind of best practices (for example what the prefered way of GUI drawing is). In the following there are some which I know: UI Framework for .NET Compact Framework 3.5 Project Resistance Amplite Application Port from IPhone* Several twitter clients CaveMen from LightWorkGames* What applications / components do you know? * actually not a application, but definetely worth to take a look

  • Is there a way to get the expression in a string in vb.net

    - by Jim Thio
LogEvents(System.Text.Encoding.UTF8.GetString(queryPlaces.ToBson)) I want to be able to output not just the content of System.Text.Encoding.UTF8.GetString(queryPlaces.ToBson) but also the actual string of System.Text.Encoding.UTF8.GetString(queryPlaces.ToBson) itself, perhaps with line numbers and file names. I know that I can do this easily with objective-c. How can I do that with .net? I've heard that that's what reflextion is for. But how? There is no macro in vb.net right?
