  • Debug checklists/Helpers with Visual Studio/.NET

    - by hmm
    I have STAThread process which when called from my process simply bombs with no exceptions and almost nothing in the call stack. If I click Cntrl+Alt+E, I get an exceptions window, how can I use it in this situation, seems like some exception is not being caught here. Also what other debugging aids can I use here in Visual Studio 2010?

  • .Net - using FileIOPermission with mask in file name

    - by Max Gontar
    Hello! I would like to apply FileIOPermission on set of files using mask in file name, ex. on all txt files in folder C:\TMP: [type: FileIOPermission(SecurityAction.PermitOnly, Read = @"C:\TMP\*.txt")] class SomeClass { static void testPermissions() { Console.WriteLine("allowed action"); File.OpenRead(@"C:\TMP\1.txt"); // <--- here goes exception Console.WriteLine("denied action"); try { File.Create(@"C:\TMP\2.txt"); } catch (Exception e) { Console.WriteLine(e.Message); } finally { Console.ReadKey(); } } } This throws ArgumentException "Illegal characters in path." What is wrong? Is it possible to achieve anyway?

  • Problem retrieving multiple instances of the same asp.net session variable

    - by sw1sh
    I'm having problems with retrieving multiple instances of a session variable from an InProc session state. In the following code I persist a simple BusinessObject into a session variable on the Page_Load event. On the click of a button I try to retrieve the object back into 2 new declared instances of the same BusinessObject. All works great until I change one of the properties in the first instance, it changes the second instance as well. Is this normal behaviour? I would have thought as these were new instances they wouldn’t demonstrate static behaviour? Any ideas where I'm going wrong? Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load If Not Page.IsPostBack Then ' create a new instance of a business object and set a containg variable Dim BO As New BusinessObject BO.SomeVariable = "test" ' persist to inproc session Session("BO") = BO End If End Sub Protected Sub btnRetrieveSessionVariable_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) Handles btnRetrieveSessionVariable.Click ' retrieve the session variable to a new instance of BusinessObject Dim BO1 As New BusinessObject If Not Session("BO") Is Nothing Then BO1 = Session("BO") ' retrieve the session variable to a new instance of BusinessObject Dim BO2 As New BusinessObject If Not Session("BO") Is Nothing Then BO2 = Session("BO") ' change the property value on the first instance BO1.SomeVariable = "test2" ' why has this changed on both instances? Dim strBO1Property As String = BO1.SomeVariable Dim strBO2Property As String = BO2.SomeVariable End Sub ' simple BusinessObject class Public Class BusinessObject Private _SomeVariable As String Public Property SomeVariable() As String Get Return _SomeVariable End Get Set(ByVal value As String) _SomeVariable = value End Set End Property End Class

  • Printing a PDF in .NET

    - by Chris Marasti-Georg
    It's the "printing question guy" again. Looking for a third-party solution to print PDFs, preferable from a service. I have seen some arguments against it, but due to our use case, this really is the preferred solution - the service will be receiving messages from a messaging bus, and there shouldn't be any sort of delay between the receipt of that message and the printing of the report. So far, I've found 1 solution from PDF Tools that seems very nice, and very flexible. The problem is that it's licensed per server. If anyone knows of any third-party solutions that have a seat license (per developer, unlimited runtime distribution), that would be much preferred. EDIT: Clarification, by printing, I mean sending the PDF to a printer.

  • ASP.Net GridView UpdatePanel Paging Gives Error On Second Click

    - by joe
    I'm trying to implement a GridView with paging inside a UpdatePanel. Everything works great when I do my first click. The paging kicks in and the next set of data is loaded quickly. However, when I then try to click a link for another page of data, I get the following error: Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerServerErrorException: An unknown error occurred while processing the request on the server. The status code returned from the server was: 12030 aspx code <asp:UpdatePanel ID="UpdatePanel1" runat="server"> <contenttemplate> <asp:GridView ID="GridView1" runat="server" CellPadding="2" AllowPaging="true" AllowSorting="true" PageSize="20" OnPageIndexChanging="GridView1_PageIndexChanging" OnSorting="GridView1_PageSorting" AutoGenerateColumns="False"> <Columns> <asp:BoundField DataField="ActivityLogID" HeaderText="Activity Log ID" SortExpression="ActivityLogID" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="ActivityDate" HeaderText="Activity Date" SortExpression="ActivityDate" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="ntUserID" HeaderText="NTUserID" SortExpression="ntUserID" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="ActivityStatus" HeaderText="Activity Status" SortExpression="ActivityStatus" /> </Columns> </asp:GridView> </contenttemplate> </asp:UpdatePanel> code behind private void bindGridView(string sortExp, string sortDir) { SqlCommand mySqlCommand = new SqlCommand(sSQL, mySQLconnection); SqlDataAdapter mySqlAdapter = new SqlDataAdapter(mySqlCommand); mySqlAdapter.Fill(dtDataTable); DataView myDataView = new DataView(); myDataView = dt.DefaultView; if (sortExp != string.Empty) { myDataView.Sort = string.Format("{0} {1}", sortExp, sortDir); } GridView1.DataSource = myDataView; GridView1.DataBind(); if (mySQLconnection.State == ConnectionState.Open) { mySQLconnection.Close(); } } protected void GridView1_PageIndexChanging(object sender, GridViewPageEventArgs e) { GridView1.PageIndex = e.NewPageIndex; bindGridView(); } protected void GridView1_PageSorting(object sender, GridViewSortEventArgs e) { bindGridView(e.SortExpression, sortOrder); } any clues on what is causing the error on the second click?

  • Why don't the .net 4.0 charting controls work in Visual Web Developer 2010 Express?

    - by kc
    The .net charting controls are now built into .net 4.0. They work great in Visual Studio 2010. However, they do not work in Visual Web Developer 2010 Express (which is what I have at home.) I get the error, System.Web.HttpException: Error executing child request for ChartImg.axd. That sounds like the message from .net 3.5 if charting wasn't set up correctly. But the bottom of the same page says, "Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:4.0.30319; ASP.NET Version:4.0.30319.1" Does anyone know why this doesn't work?

  • Configuring Cruise Control Net with sourcesafe - Unable to load array item 'executable'

    - by albert
    Hi all, I'm trying to create a continuous integration environment. To do so, I've used a guide that can be found at http://www.15seconds.com/issue/040621.htm. In this step by step, the goal is to create a CI with CCNet, NAnt, NUni, NDoc, FxCop and source safe. I've been able to create my build by using the command prompt (despite the the different versions issues). The problem has come with the configuration of ccnet.config I've made some changes because of the new versions, but I'm still getting errors when starting the CCNet server. Can anyone help me to fix this issue or point where to find a guide with this scenario? The error that I'm getting: Unable to instantiate CruiseControl projects from configuration document. Configuration document is likely missing Xml nodes required for properly populating CruiseControl configuration. Unable to load array item 'executable' - Cannot convert from type System.String to ThoughtWorks.CruiseControl.Core.ITask for object with value: "\DevTools\nant\bin\NAnt.exe" Xml: E:\DevTools\nant\bin\NAnt.exe My CCNet config file below: <cruisecontrol> <project name="BuildingSolution"> <webURL>http://localhost/ccnet</webURL> <modificationDelaySeconds>10</modificationDelaySeconds> <triggers> <intervaltrigger name="continuous" seconds="60" /> </triggers> <sourcecontrol type="vss" autoGetSource="true"> <ssdir>E:\VSS\</ssdir> <executable>C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual SourceSafe\SS.EXE</executable> <project>$/CCNet/slnCCNet.root/slnCCNet</project> <username>Albert</username> <password></password> </sourcecontrol> <prebuild type="nant"> <executable>E:\DevTools\nant\bin\NAnt.exe</executable> <buildFile>E:\Builds\buildingsolution\WebForm.build</buildFile> <logger>NAnt.Core.XmlLogger</logger> <buildTimeoutSeconds>300</buildTimeoutSeconds> </prebuild> <tasks> <nant> <executable>E:\DevTools\nant\bin\nant.exe</executable> <nologo>true</nologo> <buildFile>E:\Builds\buildingsolution\WebForm.build</buildFile> <logger>NAnt.Core.XmlLogger</logger> <targetList> <target>build</target> </targetList> <buildTimeoutSeconds>6000</buildTimeoutSeconds> </nant> </tasks> <publishers> <merge> <files> <file>E:\Builds\buildingsolution\latest\*-results.xml</file> </files> </merge> <xmllogger /> </publishers> </project> </cruisecontrol> enter code here

  • Aletrnatives to MultiView in ASP.NET

    - by remdao
    Hi The website I'm building contains a large number of views which will be displayed on the same place but hidden or shown according to how the user navigates the menu. It gets quite messy in visual studios design view when you have a MultiView with 10 different views in it. I've already separated the content of each view in several user controls. But is there an alternative to MultiView?

  • Question about XML deserialization in .net

    - by ryudice
    Hi, I'm trying to deserialize an XML that comes from a web service but I do not know how to tell the serializer how to handlke this piece of xml: <Movimientos> <Movimientos> <NOM_ASOC>pI22E7P30KWB9KeUnI+JlMRBr7biS0JOJKo1JLJCy2ucI7n3MTFWkY5DhHyoPrWs</NOM_ASOC> <FEC1>RZq60KwjWAYPG269X4r9lRZrjbQo8eRqIOmE8qa5p/0=</FEC1> <IDENT_CLIE>IYbofEiD+wOCJ+ujYTUxgsWJTnGfVU+jcQyhzgQralM=</IDENT_CLIE> </Movimientos> <Movimientos> As you can see, the child tag uses the same tag as its parent, I suppose this is wrong however the webservice is provided by an external company and that wont change it, is there any way or any library to tidy up XML or how can I use an attribute on my class so that the serializer gets it right? thanks for any help.

  • Subfolders in App_GlobalResources (ASP.NET)

    - by frankadelic
    Is it possible to put resource files (.resx) within subfolders inside App_GlobalResources? For example: /App_GlobalResources/someresources/myfile.resx /App_GlobalResources/someresources/myfile.fr-fr.resx /App_GlobalResources/othereresources/otherfile.resx /App_GlobalResources/othereresources/otherfile.fr-fr.resx Or, are all the .resx files placed directly inside App_GlobalResources? If it is possible to use subfolders, how do you programmatically access resources within subfolders?

  • How to reuse socket in .NET?

    - by Hermann
    I am trying to reconnect to a socket that I have disconnected from but it won't allow it for some reason even though I called the Disconnect method with the argument "reuseSocket" set to true. _socket = new Socket(AddressFamily.InterNetwork, SocketType.Stream, ProtocolType.Tcp); _socket.Connect(ipAddress, port); //...receive data _socket.Disconnect(true); //reuseSocket = true //...wait _socket.Connect(ipAddress, port); //throws an InvalidOperationException: Once the socket has been disconnected, you can only reconnect again asynchronously, and only to a different EndPoint. BeginConnect must be called on a thread that won't exit until the operation has been completed. What am I doing wrong?

  • .net code readability and maintainability

    - by george9170
    There Currently is a local debate as to which code is more readability We have one programmer who comes from a c background and when that programmer codes it looks like string foo = "bar"; if (foo[foo.Length - 1] == 'r') { } We have another programmer that doesn't like this methodology and would rather use if (foo.EndsWith("r")) { } which way of doing these types of operations is better?

  • asp.net mvc form add comment

    - by Pinu
    I have a page where a product appears on the right side and the user can add comment so i have a user control which gets all the comments and a small text area where user can add new comment for that product. the link of the page is like http://localhost/Product/TestComment/1 Where 1 indicates the id of the product and I have been hard coding my AddNote function below and fourth argument you see has been hard coded, but i need to pass that as the id of the product. How do i do this AddNote(HttpContext.User.Identity.ToString(), txtComment, 1, DateTime.Now, true); [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult AddComment(string txtComment) { bool rst = _NotesService.AddNote(HttpContext.User.Identity.ToString(), txtComment, 1, DateTime.Now, true); return RedirectToAction("TestComment"); }

  • .NET Type Conversion Issue: Simple but difficult

    - by jaderanderson
    Well, the question is kinda simple. I have a object defined as: public class FullListObject : System.Collections.ArrayList, IPagedCollection And when i try to: IPagedCollection pagedCollection = (IPagedCollection)value; It don't work... value is a FullListObject... this is my new code trying to get around a issue with the "is" operator. When the system tests (value is IPagedCollection) it never gets true for FullListObject. How to cast the object to another object with a interface type?

  • ASP .NET MVC partial views and routing

    - by Johnny
    Hi, I have an MVC view that contains a number of partial views. These partial views are populated using partial requests so the controller for the view itself doesn't pass any data to them. Is it possible to reload the data in one of those partial views if an action was triggered in another? For example, one partial view has a jqGrid and I want to refresh the data in another partial view when a user selects a new row in this grid. Is there a code example for this scenario (in C#) that I can look at to see what am I doing wrong? I am using ajax calls to trigger a new request but non of the partial views are refreshed so I am not sure if the issue is with the routing, the controller, or if this even possible at all! Thanks!

  • ASP.NET MVC Model Binding

    - by Noel
    If i have a Controller Action that may recieve both HTTP GET and HTTP POST from a number of different sources with each source sending different data e.g. Source1 performs a form POST with two form items Item1 and Item2 Source2 performs a GET where the data is contained in the query string (?ItemX=2&ItemY=3) Is it possible to have a controller action that will cater for all these cases and perform binding automatically e.g. public ActionResult Test(Dictionary data) { // Do work ... return View(); } Is this possible with a custom binder or some other way? Dont want to work directly with HttpContext.Request if possible

    Is there an easy way to present time (hh:mm) as a decimal value? Example, 01:08 should become 1,13. I have an asp:textbox masked (ajax) as time with the mask format "99:99". Next to this box I need to present the entered value as decimal. <asp:TextBox ID="time" runat="server" /> hh:mm ([time in decimal format]) <ajaxToolkit:MaskedEditExtender runat="server" Mask="99:99" TargetControlID="time" MaskType="Time" />

  • A very weired problem with texbox control in C# .net

    - by Kazoom
    Well i know textbox is a very simple user control, perhaps the first input control ever made. I have been facing a very frustrating problem with this simple control. I programatically add a textbox in my user control. From ui i am able to edit it like a normal textbox. however, i am not able to read the user inputed value in the program. my program all the time sees the old value with which my text box was initialized. i textchange event getting triggered but the value never gets updated. This seemingly looks to be some innocuous bug in the code, but the program is very simple and it does not seem to be having any bug. Any guidelines on this issue?

  • .NET Working with Locking and Threads

    - by aherrick
    Work on this small test application to learn threading/locking. I have the following code, I would think that the line should only write to console once. However it doesn't seem to be working as expected. Any thoughts on why? What I'm trying to do is add this Lot object to a List, then if any other threads try and hit that list, it would block. Am i completely misusing lock here? class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { int threadCount = 10; //spin up x number of test threads Thread[] threads = new Thread[threadCount]; Work w = new Work(); for (int i = 0; i < threadCount; i++) { threads[i] = new Thread(new ThreadStart(w.DoWork)); } for (int i = 0; i < threadCount; i++) { threads[i].Start(); } // don't let the console close Console.ReadLine(); } } public class Work { List<Lot> lots = new List<Lot>(); private static readonly object thisLock = new object(); public void DoWork() { Lot lot = new Lot() { LotID = 1, LotNumber = "100" }; LockLot(lot); } private void LockLot(Lot lot) { // i would think that "Lot has been added" should only print once? lock (thisLock) { if(!lots.Contains(lot)) { lots.Add(lot); Console.WriteLine("Lot has been added"); } } } }
