  • How to isolate a single element from a scraped web page in R

    Hello, I'm trying to do soemone a favour, and it's a tad outside my comfort zone, so I'm stuck. I want to use R to scrape this page (http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/archive/germany2006/results/matches/match=97410001/report.html ) and others, to get the goal scorers and times. So far, this is what I've got require(RCurl) require(XML) theURL <-"http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/archive/germany2006/results/matches/match=97410001/report.html" webpage <- getURL(theURL, header=FALSE, verbose=TRUE) webpagecont <- readLines(tc <- textConnection(webpage)); close(tc) pagetree <- htmlTreeParse(webpagecont, error=function(...){}, useInternalNodes = TRUE) and the pagetree object now contains a pointer to my parsed html (I think).     I know there is a lot of js plugins to do "tabs", but also i can do it my self. Just have some elements with display:none and when you click some other element display changes to block, or something like that. Now, i have a one site i am developing, where i am giving specific users(all within one usergroup) access to edit only one page which i have created. That part is done. Now i have a request to give those users ability to edit 2 more sub pages, but since its all gonna be the same, like text with some pictures, i was thinking to put 3 textarea's so they will have 1 page where they can edit content of all those 3 pages. What i also thought was to only have one page and on it to have 3 tabs. Each tab for each possible page. When i started thinking about that the only concern was seo. How does seo works regarding elements with display:none? What jquery tabs plugin do you recommend that has the ability to access tabs via id of the element in url? I was looking at jquery ui demo but there when you get the url of one of those tabs and try to open it in new window, that tab is not opened.     Developing a community site where everyone can post text, I'm looking for a markup filter: What is not part of the markup must be escaped (htmlspecialchars()) as it is. Should turn URL-s automatically into links Should support some form of basic markups (bold, image, url, pre, list) Should have a simple parser, that turns user input text into HTML Content on the site is public to everyone, XSS must not allowed to happen. What do you suggest? What markup language in the first place? BBCode? Wiki? Markdown? Are there any complete API-s with good examples? PHP is available on the server side. If there is a WYSIWYG-like texarea in addition (like here on SO) that would be a fantastic bonus!

  • referencing a WCF web service

    Our current project uses an asmx service. We want to keep this service for now, but would like to add an additional wcf service for ajax calls. I followed a procedure i found online to set up the service and it works fine with javascript in aspx files within that particular project but i'm unsure how to reference it in javascript files in a different project (in the same solution). If someone could point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.     We have developed an ASP.NET website on a Windows 7 - 32 bit platform using Visual Studio 2008. This website is being hosted at a hosting company where we share a server with hundreds of other ASP.NET websites. We are in the process of changing our hosting to a dedicated Windows 2008 - 64 bit server. We have installed Visual Studio on this new server in order to debug our application. If we try to start the application on this new server using Visual Studios 2008's own web server (not IIS 7) we get the error below. We have tried to compile the application in both 32 as well as 64 bit mode. We also tried to compile to "Any CPU". But nothing helps.     I have many params making up an insert form for example: x.Parameters.AddWithValue("@city", City.Text) I had a failed xss attack on the site this morning, so I am trying to beef up security measures anyway.... Should I be adding my input params like this? x.Parameters.AddWithValue("@city", HttpUtility.HtmlEncode(City.Text)) Is there anything else I should consider to avoid attacks? Thanks

  • WAMP Server not working

    Okay so a continuation from this question, where you experts intro'd me to WAMP, which can basically execute PHP within a Windows XP environment. So now I've got it installed, but the tray icon forever shows YELLOW, and when I visit any PHP page in my browser, it just shows me the PHP source! Also, when I visit "http://localhost/" in IE7 it gives me a 404 Not Found, FF3 just shows a blank page. BTW I've tried "Restart All Services" and restarting my machine, but it still won't work. Any ideas? Any of you had this problem and solved it? Please help me here, I'm desperate to execute PHP client-side and I'm just reverting to testing on-server for now!

  • Machine restricted login access

    I am working on a project that has a requirement such that login details can only be accessed from one machine at one time. For example, if I grant you access to my website and you login from your home machine, the system will store this settings in a cookie/database. Now if you try the same login details on your work machine or any other machine, the system will not let you log into the system. The login will now only work from home machine. Any suggestions on how to achieve this would be helpful. Any resources you can point me towards would also be appreciated.

  • Jquery Cluetip - clean up between ajax loaded content

    Hi, I'm using the jquery cluetip plugin and trying to figure out how to remove any open cluetip dialogs once i load new content via ajax. I am either stuck with the dialog boxes still showing on top of new content, or the ways i've tried to fix this actually remove all future cluetip dialogs from showing at all. Here's my code, thanks for any help.   • Authentication Problem - not recognizing 'else' - Ruby on rails...

    I can't seem to figure out what I am doing wrong here. I have implemented the Super Simple Authentication from Ryan Bates tutorial and while the login portion is functioning correctly, I can't get an error message and redirect to happen correctly for a bad login. Ryan Bates admits in his comments he left this out but can't seem to implement his recommendation. Basically what is happening is that when someone logs in correctly it works. When a bad password is entered it does the same redirect and flashes 'successfully logged in' thought they are not. The admin links do not show (which is correct and are the links protected by the <% if admin? %) but I need it to say 'failed login' and redirect to login path.   • File transfer eating alot of CPU

    I'm trying to transfer a file over a IHttpHandler, the code is pretty simple. However when i start a single transfer it uses about 20% of the CPU. If i were to scale this to 20 simultaneous transfers the CPU is very high.     Hi, I have a question: In Flash, I have the ability to save certain info onto the server. Now the problem is the user needs to be authenticated as admin in order to do so. I can't use sessions, since if you work longer than 20 minutes in the Flash application, the session is gone. The way I see it, I have 2 possibilities: 1. passing a parameter (bIsAdmin) to Flash from the Website. 2. Launch a http-get request, to get this value (bIsAdmin) from an ashx handler on application startup, when the session has not yet exired. In my opinion, both possibilities are not really secure... So, Which one is safer, 1 or 2? Or does anybody have a better idea ? In my opinion, 1 is safer, because with 2, you can just switch a packet tamperer in between, and bang, you're admin, with permission to save (or overwrite, =delete) anything.

  • chrome extension login security with iframe

    I should note, I'm not a chrome extension expert. However, I'm looking for some advice or high level solution to a security concern I have with my chrome extension. I've searched quite a bit but can't seem to find a concrete answer. The situation I have a chrome extension that needs to have the user login to our backend server. However, it was decided for design reasons that the default chrome popup balloon was undesirable. Thus I've used a modal dialog and jquery to make a styled popup that is injected with content scripts. Hence, the popup is injected into the DOM o the page you are visiting. The Problem Everything works, however now that I need to implement login functionality I've noticed a vulnerability: If the site we've injected our popup into knows the password fields ID they could run a script to continuously monitor the password and username field and store that data. Call me paranoid, but I see it as a risk. In fact,I wrote a mockup attack site that can correctly pull the user and password when entered into the given fields. My devised solution I took a look at some other chrome extensions, like Buffer, and noticed what they do is load their popup from their website and, instead, embed an iFrame which contains the popup in it. The popup would interact with the server inside the iframe. My understanding is iframes are subject to same-origin scripting policies as other websites, but I may be mistaken. As such, would doing the same thing be secure? TLDR To simplify, if I embedded an https login form from our server into a given DOM, via a chrome extension, are there security concerns to password sniffing? If this is not the best way to deal with chrome extension logins, do you have suggestions with what is? Perhaps there is a way to declare text fields that javascript can simply not interact with? Not too sure! Thank you so much for your time! I will happily clarify anything required.
