• MySQL: selecting all but one field?

  instead of SELECT * FROM mytable, i would like to select all fields EXCEPT one (namely, the 'serialized' field, which stores a serialized object). this is because i think that losing that field will speed up my query by a lot. however, i have so many fields and am quite the lazy guy. is there a way to say... `SELECT ALL_ROWS_EXCEPT(serialized) FROM mytable` ? thanks!

  I am developing an application which may be hosted on a microsoft sql server, or on Azure SQL, depending upon the end user's wishes. My whole system works fine with the exception of some WCF functions which determine the last modification time of tables using the following technique: SELECT OBJECT_NAME(OBJECT_ID) as tableName, last_user_update as lastUpdate FROM mydb.sys.dm_db_index_usage_stats This query fails in Azure. Is there any analogous way to get table last modification dates from Azure's sql?

  Imagine a have a table with a column named status: status ------ A A A B C C D D D How can I count how many rows have A, how many rows have B etc? this kind of output: A |B |C |D |E ------------------ 3 |1 |2 |3 |0 As for E = O , this will always be A,B,C,D and E Output should be one row (thus 1 query). When doing a distinct count (most returning answer on my searches, it does return how many different elements there are, 4 in this case...)

After I read the documentation for the XMLHttpRequest, it says if the status = 0 and readyState = 4, then check the associated error flag.   I am currently achieving the desired outcome with two PHP statements: $thisBlarg = $xmlResource->xpath('//blarg[@ID='.$someBlargID.']'); echo $thisBlarg[0]->name; But, not wanting to settle for second best, I'd really prefer this to be one statement, but PHP doesn't like this: echo $xmlResource->xpath('//blarg[@ID='.$someBlargID.']')[0]->name; And for good reason. But I can't find a way to force an xpath query to return the result directly. Any suggestions?

  I am conducting stress tests on my database, which is hosted on SQL Server 2008 64-bit running on a 64-bit machine with 10 GB of RAM. I have 400 threads. Each thread queries the database every second, but the query time does not take time, as the SQL profiler says that, but after 18 hours SQL Server uses up 7.2 GB of RAM and 7.2 GB of virtual memory. Is this normal behavior? How can I adjust SQL Server to clean up unused memory?
