  • create and write to a text file in vb.net

    I'm creating a small vb.net application, and I'm trying trying to write a list of results from a listview to a text file. I've looked online and found the code to open the save file dialog and write the text file. When I click save on the save file dialog, I receive an IOException with the message "The process cannot access the file 'C:\thethe.txt' because it is being used by another process." The text file is created in the correct location, but is empty.     I am creating a client-server application and I'd like to send data from server to client securely. Using public/private key algorithms makes sense and in PHP we can use openssl_sign and openssl_verify functions to check that the data came by someone who has the private key. Now imagine that one of the actions sent by server to client is destructive in nature. If somebody uses an HTTP sniffer to catch this command (which will be signed properly) how can I further protect the communication to ensure that only commands coming from our server get processed by the client? I was thinking about using current UTC time as part of the encrypted data but client time might be off. Is there a simple solution to the problem?

I've been out of the loop for over a decade; are you doing it any differently now than we did back in the pre-internet, pre-windows days? You know, back when "real" coders coded in C, used the command line, and quibbled over which shell was superior? Just to clarify, I mean, not how do you DESIGN a language (that I can figure out fairly easily) but how do you build the compiler and standard libraries and so forth? What tools do you kids use these days?

    I am stuck between row vs colunms table design for storing some items but the decision is which table is easier to manage and if colunms then how many colunms are best to have? For example I have object meta data, ideally there are 45 pieces of information (after being normalized) on the same level that i need to store per object. So is 45 colunms in a heavry read/write table good? Can it work flawless in a real world situation of heavy concurrent read/writes?

    Here is my query SELECT COALESCE(js.name,'Lead saknas'), count(j.id) FROM jobs j LEFT JOIN job_sources js ON j.job_source=js.id LEFT JOIN (SELECT * FROM quotes GROUP BY job_id) q ON j.id=q.job_id GROUP BY j.job_source The problem is that it's allowed for each job to have more than one quote. Because of that i group the quotes by job_id. Now sure, this works. But i don't like the solution with a subquery. How can i break out the group clause from the subquery to the main query? I have tried to add q.job_id to the main group clause, both before and after the existing one but don't get the same results.

    I'd like to make an Android app that lets a user apply cool effects to photos taken with the camera. There are already a few out there, I know, but I'd like to try my own hand at one. I'm trying to figure out the best way to implement these effects. Here are some examples from the excellent Vignette app (which I own): http://www.flickr.com/groups/vignetteforandroid/pool/ I have been googling and stack-overflowing, but so far I've mostly found some references to published papers or books. I am ordering this one from Amazon presently - Digital Image Processing: An Algorithmic Introduction using Java After some reading, I think I have a basic understanding of manipulating the RGB values for all the pixels in the image. My main question is how do I come up with a transformation that produces cool effects? By cool effects I mean some like those in the Vignette app or IPhone apps: ToyCamera Polarize I already have quite a bit of experience with Java, and I've made my first app for android already.     I'm making a partial overlay modal in my app with the code from “Semi-Modal (Transparent) Dialogs on the iPhone” at ramin.firoozye.com. In doing so, the button that calls the modal is still visible and clickable. I will hide this button when the modal spawns, but I want to be sure if the user clicks very quickly twice, a new modal doesn't come up for each click. What is the best way to check that the modal doesn't already exist when calling it from the button click? You can download the test project here.     I need to convert a credit card expire field from MMYY to a date field I can use in a MS SQL query so I can compute when credit cards are expiring in the future. Basically, I need to go from MMYY to MM/DD/YYYY, where the day part could just be '01' (the first of the month). I'm looking for credit cards that are expiring next month from a database. The problem I'm running into is when next month is the first month of the next year.
