Shotwell helps me keep my photos organized. It would be nice if there was something similar for my videos. I prefer something Gtk-based, but I'm open to ideas.
I seems i did some mistake, and installed Ubuntu server on my home based ubuntu box.
and the problem is that GRUB places the server edition as a priority boot in the menu, especially when I upgrade the kernel or the release.
How can I remove the server from the GRUB menu permanently? can I un-install Ubuntu server edition?
Hi all,
I have had a bunch of Linux based streaming servers that employed lighttpd web server to provide video streaming via port 80.
Recently, our service is very slow. Therefore, I would like to ask if there is a good software package that helps us monitor and record our bandwidth usage, lighttpd established connections, TCP sync connections, disk I/O ... over time.
Any suggestions?
Regards,
Dinh
Is is know that Xen Server is based on CentOS, and it is fact that CentOS can be installed on an ISCSI target flawlessly, but I wanted to install Xen server on an ISCSI target I couldn't find a way.
I already tried the latest version of xen server 6.2, and there is no obvious way who to do the installation without a local disk.
Does anybody have an idea about the subject, or did someone know how to do it?
Please share your experience about this subject.
Is it possible to configure Google somehow to permanently ban search results from domains that I know 100% are never, ever going to make me happy? Something cookie/session based maybe?
E.g.: I want to ban (permanently, forever and always) results from experts-exchange.com. Every time I click results that take me to their page I just want to scream.
We have recently installed Blackberry Express Server for our UK Blackberry users (who are on Vodafone, not sure if the network matters)
Our US users have got wind of this and are hoping we can do the same for them. (They're mostly on AT&T)
The UK & US Exchange mailboxes are based on 2 different exchange servers
So...
Q. Is it possible to support the US users with the current installation/server configuration?
Hello,
A professor at the university asked me if I could install some software for him on his laptop that runs SLES 11. I'm not familiar with SUSE (I typically work with debian based machines) so I'm having some trouble finding/installing some software.
Here's the list of software he needs installed:
-xv (plotting software)
-xmgrace
-LaTeX
Can someone point me toward some rpms for the above-mentioned software?
Hi,
Oh RHEL 5.5, there are 31 ACPI PCI hotplug slots by default:
acpiphp: Slot [1] registered
...
acpiphp: Slot [31] registered
Is there a way to increase this number? I haven't been able to find an argument to supply to modprobe, or a sysctl knob to tweak, but I know there must be ways to get more slots based on some Google sleuthing.
(For the curious, this is just preliminary experimentation to see how many virtual disks I can hot-add to a running KVM guest.)
Hi, on Mac, you know there is no 'merge files' when you command+c/command+v some folder on another one, it actually replaces it. I'm simply wondering on what UNIX is this based? Because correct me if I'm wrong, but "cp - R" DOES merge files, no? And that's what I'm doing via the Finder, copying some files and folders...
thanks!
I'm trying to find out whether VMware ESX 4.x Fault Tolerance (FT) is supported on a particular server and VMware's HCL is confusing me. It says that some servers with FT-supported processors (specifically the Xeon 3400 Lynnfield) do not support FT and some with almost identical specs (same chipset for instance) do support FT.
Could this be a mistake on the HCL itself? To my understanding FT support is based only on the CPU.
Thanks.

Is there a way to monitor ec2 instances without using cloudwatch? I ask this since ec2 instances are basically VPS's, and using output from commands like top, vmstat, htop in scripts may not give the clear picture as the CPU cycles are shared between other instances as well.
What should one keep in mind while monitoring CPU usage on a VPS?, should one have alerts based on top load or % of CPU used by user processes coupled with other factors like processes waiting on disk io, hardware interrupts?
I need a table in Word 2007, which needs to be on every page of the document. It is actually not a table per se, but a frame with three columns. The problem is it cannot interfere with editing, so I'm trying to avoid just inserting a lot of tables, and for now am using a made up table, made of lines, which I've putted in header field over the entire page.
Is there a better way to do it then this?
I am running a wsgi based application that has concurrent users accessing it. For my logs needs I tried logrotate but found that logrotate is not too friendly to Python applications, so I tried using RotatingFileHandler and even worse found my logs all chopped up and part of it went missing!
I am considering ConcurrentRotatingFileHandler, my question is, has anyone out there experienced the same thing and better yet do you have any battle tested solution for Python wsgi, concurrently accessed applications?
I want to print a document, I set it to grayscale (i.e no color just blank ink) and for some reason I can't print b/c my color ink cartidge is empty.
The blank ink cartridge is fine, why can't I print then?
Adobe Photoshop CS5 has new feature - when file is dropped from finder onto document, it creates new smart layer with contents.
What do I have to do to open the file instead creating new layer?
Thank you.
I want to buy a Nokia 5530 and run Gizmo5 on it in order to receive and make calls. I want to get a call in number based in England and was wondering if receiving calls via the call in number on my mobile via wifi would use any of my callout credit?
I ask because the Skype lite version uses your callout credit if you receive a call on it using your online number (it doesn't if you use the desktop version).
Thanks!
I'm trying to use an old parallel-port based printer with a USB-to-parallel port adapter on Windows 7. When I plug it into the USB port on the computer it's listed as an unrecognized device. I know that these cables typically use the "USB Printing Support" driver with makes USB ports show up as printer ports in the printer dialog. Is there a way to manually add USB Printing Support to Windows 7, since it isn't being added automatically?
I have several laptops so I use a USB key version of Firefox to keep my environment as I move around. I followed the suggestions offered on the Firefox web site (turn off the cache and history etc.) and its better but still much slower than the normal version.
Other than buying a new, super fast flux-capacitor based USB key, what other tips and tricks can I use?
Has anyone ever ran across a program that in a generic manner will execute a sql query and then based on criteria email out alerts. Going to create such a framework but don't want to re create the wheel if I don't have to. It could be used to check various things like if things are setup correctly inside our ERP etc...
Thanks for any thoughts.

I use dark themes and when I select a word, Notepad++ highlights all the occurences of that word in the current document. But the highlight color for matches other than the current word is somehow blended with the background and the highlighted text is not as clearly visible as it could be. The same thing happens when using "Find all" option in the Find dialog to mark the occurences. Is there a way to change this behavior such that the matched text has the same (full) opacity as the selected text?
I run a small PBX based on the FreePBX distro of Asterisk. The installation has been steadily upgraded but for various reasons, we want to start again on a new server with a clean install from the distribution media.
Will I be able to take a backup from the old server and restore it to the new server, even though the installs are different versions? How sensitive are FreePBX backups to the build version? Is it possible to get at least a partial restore?
I'm considering setting up a DPM server offsite and synchronising it with my onsite DPM server. How can I determine the size of the changes that would be replicated (based on my historical data) so that I can determine if we have the bandwidth to support this?
I am trying to print barcodes for a library. I have generated a list of sequential numbers and copied them into Word 2003.
I want Library name, barcode font, barcode number printed in an Avery 5160 label sheet.
I can get it to work by going to tools, letters and mailing, Envelopes and Labels, labels tab and type in what data I want. I don't see how I can pull this data from the list in the word document rather than just what I type.
I have an Excel sheet that I'm using to keep track of the status of certain things.
I want to have a column which consists of cells containing a repeated drop down that allows you to select (as background)
red
amber
green
unknown
I don't want any text in this cell, I just want a coloured block.
Is this possible?
I've tried playing around with data-validation-list (based on range containing all of said colours but to no avail)
Not all of my AD Groups are showing in the Audience list. I want to create a new audience based on if the user is in a group. Some AD groups show up, and others don't. Many the newer ones do not show up. My connection is pulling (im pretty sure) the whole AD via primary domain controller.

Any ideas?
