• Delegates doesnot work properly

  Say I have two std::set<std::string>s. The first one, old_options, needs to be merged with additional options, contained in new_options. I can't just use std::merge (well, I do, but not only that) because I also check for doubles and warn the user about this accordingly. To this effect, I have void merge_options( set<string> &old_options, const set<string> &new_options ) { // find duplicates and create merged_options, a stringset containing the merged options // handle duplicated the way I want to // ... old_options = merged_options; } Is it better to use std::swap( merged_options, old_options ); or the assignment I have? Is there a better way to filter duplicates and return the merged set than consecutive calls to std::set_intersection and std::set_union to detect dupes and merge the sets? I know it's slower than one traversal and doing both at once, but these sets are small (performance is not critical) and I trust the Standard more than I trust myself.

  Hi, I have two tables: 1) Application(int appid, int statusid, String appname, String appcity with getter and Setter methods) 2) App_Status(int statusid,String statusDescription with setter and getter methods) I want to map Application table with App_Status so that I don't have to query separately App_Status table in order to get the statusDescription. One thing I have to careful is that no matter what (Insert,update or delete) to the Application table the App_Status table should be unaffected means its a read only table which is maintained by the DBA internally and used only for lookup table. I am using JPA annotations so please suggest how to handle this.

For example my enum is public enum MethodType { DOUBLE,LIST,STRING,ARRAYLIST,FLOAT,LONG; } In a property file, I've key value pairs as follows. Test1=String Test2=Double In my code I'm getting the value for the key. I need to use the VALUE in Switch Case to Determine the Type and based on that I've to implement some logic.   What's the best practise when adapting C-style functions which return a true/false to Java? Here's a simple method to illustrate where the problem lies. public static boolean fileNameEndsWithExtension( String filename, String fileExtension) { return filename.endsWith( fileExtension ); } Note that there's probably a more elegant way of filtering files (feel free to comment on this). Anyway, if filename is a null value, does one: Return a false if filename is null? If so, how does one go about distinguishing between the case where filename is null and the case where the String or file name doesn't end with a given file extension? Change the return type to the wrapper class Boolean which allows a null value. Throw an Exception and force the programmer to make sure that a null value is never passed to the method? Use another solution?

• (NOT) NULL for NVARCHAR columns

  Allowing NULL values on a column is normally done to allow the absense of a value to be represented. When using NVARCHAR there is aldready a possibility to have an empty string, without setting the column to NULL. In most cases I cannot see a semantical difference between an NVARCHAR with an empty string and a NULL value for such a column. Setting the column as NOT NULL saves me from having to deal with the possibility of NULL values in the code and it feels better to not have to different representations of "no value" (NULL or an empty string). Will I run into any other problems by setting my NVARCHAR columns to NOT NULL. Performance? Storage size? Anything I've overlooked on the usage of the values in the client code?

• Java SOAP WSDL 1.1 message sending all the parameters (even future ones)

  I have to communicate with a SOAP Web Service defined in a WSDL 1.1. All the parameters are optional in the WSDL like: <xsd:element name="Submitter" type="xsd:string"/> but if I do not send them I get an error because the parameter was not sent, so instead I have to send an empty string for any parameter I do not intent to send. So instead of not sending the element I have to send: <Submitter></Submitter> The problem is that the WebService publisher does not have any problem adding new parameters at any point in time but I must sent at least an empty string for all the parameters. How may I call this WebService in Java so every time I call the WebService the WSDL is read so that all the parameters are sent having the parameters I care for are actually filled with the data I provide? I am currently using Apache CXF but I am open to anything to solve this problem.

  In short, how to add minutes to a datetime from an integer located in another table, in one select statement, by joining them? I have a table P(int id, ..., int minutes) and a table S(int id, int p_id, datetime start) I want to generate a view that gives me PS(S.id, P.id, S.start + P.minutes) by joining S.p_id=P.id The problem is, if I was generating the query from the application, I can do stuff like: select datetime('2010-04-21 14:00', '+20 minutes'); 2010-04-21 14:20:00 By creating the string '+20 minutes' in the application and then passing it to sqlite. However I can't find a way to create this string in the select itself: select p.*,datetime(s.start_at, formatstring('+%s minutes', p.minutes)) from p,s where s.p_id=p.id; Because sqlite as far the documentation tells, does not provide any string format function, nor can I see any alternative way of expressing the date modifiers.

  I have a Excel Workbook that I use as a report template. I change the datasource on each pivot and datatable in a C# app. When I change the datatable datasource it tweeks the columns.   Test.java and SetWord.java belong to the package tools. Test.java needs to access SetWord but an odd error 'cannot find' SetWord appear. The package limits the visibility, it works without 'package tools;' lines. How can I acess the SetWords with Test in the same pkg? In general, how can classes access one another in the same pkg? I see a lot of the above in the code I work with. In these cases, I always have to talk to the person who experienced the error to find out what they were doing, step through the code, and try to reproduce the error. Is there any best practices or ways I can minimize all this extra work? Should I log the parameters in each method like this? Logger.Log("Params: " + appetizer + "," + mainCourse + "," + dessert, ex); Is there a better way to log the current environment? If I do it this way, will I need to write out all this stuff for each method I have in my application? Are there any best practices concerning scenarios like this?

Can someone provide an explanation (backed with references to the C++ Standard, please) about what is actually supposed to happen here? And then explain for example): int main() { A a = {42}; } Are either of these well-defined? Once again an embarrassing question for me - I always give my structs constructors, so the issue has never arisen before.

Also I couldn't fathom the Action delegate syntax given above though I have used delegates in C# 2.0. Basically I am not able to relate the syntax with the concept of delegates I am familiar with. • Sql Server XML-type column duplicate entry detection

  In Sql Server I am using an XML type column to store a message. I do not want to store duplicate messages. I only will have a few messages per user. I am currently querying the table for these messages, converting the XML to string in my C# code. I then compare the strings with what I am about to insert. Unfortunately, Sql Server pretty-prints the data in the XML typed fields. What you store into the database is not necessarily exactly the same string as what you get back out later. It is functionally equivalent, but may have white space removed, etc. Is there an efficient way to compare an XML string that I am considering inserting with those that are already in the database? As an aside, if I detect a duplicate I need to delete the older message then insert the replacement.

• MS Access "#Name?" in unbound field on SOME machines

  I have a datasheet form bound to table. I added 2 unbound fields and set their Control Source properties to user defined VBA functions: 1. ConcatRelated (http://allenbrowne.com/func-concat.html) 2. Custom function that returns a string: Public Function GetLowestSatatus(LookupField As String, JSAID As Integer) As String On Error Resume Next GetLowestSatatus = DLookup(LookupField, "JsaStatuses", "ID=" & DMin("StatusID", "Tasks", "JSAID =" & JSAID)) End Function It works fine on my and some other machines but there are machines I got "#Name?" in these 2 unbound fields. All machines configured identically. Any ideas? Thank you!

  I want to reference a table cell via it's string ID in my code like this FindControl("tdAnswer_a") because I am manipulating string ID names. The ASPX code looks like this : <table>...<td ID="tdAnswer_a" runat="server" visible="true"> But FindControl is not able to find the table cell. When I reference it by ID like this : tdAnswer_a.Visible = true; in my codebehind, it has no problems. (This is not part of a repeater or gridview). How can I FindControl my table cells via string ID names?

  I need to append/format a url with a list of ids for an api call however, when i put the list at the end of the api https://api.twitter.com/1.1/users/lookup.json?user_id=%s'%a i just get an empty string as a response. i have tried turning the list into a string and removing the square brackets doing a = str(followers['ids'])[1:-1] but i still get the same problem. and im assuming that its being caused by the single quote at the start. i have tried removing the apostrophe from the string doing a.replace("'", "") and now i have run out of ideas thanks

But when printed to the JSP file and displayed at runtime using <%=pm.getMessage()%> or <%out.print(pm.getMessage());%> The actual html code comes out all messed up, You have received a new <a 5282053859835904');'="" onclick="return popupRentalView(" href="">Rental Request 5282053859835904</a> . Please view your open orders. Any thoughts on why the displayed string does not match the saved string?
