• How can I graph the Lines of Code history for git repo?

  Basically I want to get the number of lines-of-code in the repository after each commit. The only (really crappy) ways I have found is to use git filter-branch to run "wc -l *", and a script that run git reset --hard on each commit, then ran wc -l To make it a bit clearer, when the tool is run, it would output the lines of code of the very first commit, then the second and so on.. This is what I want the tool to output (as an example): me@something:~/$ gitsloc --branch master 10 48 153 450 1734 1542 I've played around with the ruby 'git' library, but the closest I found was using the .lines() method on a diff, which seems like it should give the added lines (but does not.. it returns 0 when you delete lines for example) require 'rubygems' require 'git' total = 0 g = Git.open(working_dir = '/Users/dbr/Desktop/code_projects/tvdb_api') last = nil g.log.each do |cur| diff = g.diff(last, cur) total = total + diff.lines puts total last = cur end

• mysql birthday reminder, leap year

  Hi, I'm trying to sort out a result set that gives the 5 closest users sorted by upcoming birthday. This works perfectly until leap years comes into play. For example: May 15th - 96 days left May 15th - 97 days left The top result is a birth at 1987 and the lower is from 1988. u_birth is stored as yyyy-mm-dd. Is there a simple way to sort this problem without having to rewrite the entire query? Also I have to use joins because in some cases `history`.`part_id` may be NULL which obviously isn't a valid part id. How would I modify the query to do this?

  assume I have a csv.DictReader object and I want to write it out as a csv file. How can I do this? I thought of the following: dr = csv.DictReader(open(f), delimiter='\t') # process my dr object # ... # write out object output = csv.DictWriter(open(f2, 'w'), delimiter='\t') for item in dr: output.writerow(item) Is that the best way? More importantly, how can I make it so a header is written out too, in this case the object "dr"s .fieldnames property? thanks.

• Is it worth caching a Dictionary for foreign key values in ASP.net?

  I have a Dictionary<int, string> cached (for 20 minutes) that has ~120 ID/Name pairs for a reference table. I iterate over this collection when populating dropdown lists and I'm pretty sure this is faster than querying the DB for the full list each time. My question is more about if it makes sense to use this cached dictionary when displaying records that have a foreign key into this reference table. Say this cached reference table is a EmployeeType table. If I were to query and display a list of employee names and types should I query for EmployeeName and EmployeeTypeID and use my cached dictionary to grab the EmployeeTypeIDs name as each record is displayed or is it faster to just have the DB grab the EmployeeName and JOIN to get the EmployeeType string bypassing the cached Dictionary all together. I know both will work but I'm interested in what will perform the fastest. Thanks for any help.

• Image rendering on browser or temporary images?

  I'm trying to make a statistics page where it will show several data and charts. The charts need to be pictures so that the user can save it/drag-and-drop to his/her personal reports. I'm using Gruff Graphs for Ruby to produce the charts but I don't know the best way to display the results safe and protected. Some of my ideas/tries are: save the chart to a file (jpg, png)? problem: data is available to anyone (don't have access to cron, to delete data from time to time) render in the browser (has to work on IE)? Use javascript (Raphaël—JavaScript Library) or Google API and output a PDF report (need plugin or gem, right)? use send_data? i've tried to output other way than inline, because I needs to show other data, is it possible?   How can I construct a MySQL INSERT query that only executes if the number of rows satisfying some condition already in the table is less than 20, and fails otherwise? That is, if the table has 18 rows satisfying the condition, then the INSERT should proceed. If the table has 23 rows satisfying the condition, then the INSERT should fail. For atomicity, I need to express this in a single query, so two requests can not INSERT at the same time, each in the 'belief' that only 19 rows satisfy the condition. Thank you.

• TableAdapter to return ONLY selected columns? (VS2008)

  (VS2008) I'm trying to configure a TableAdapter in a Typed DataSet to return only a certain subset of columns from the main schema of the table on which it is based, but it always returns the entire schema (all columns) with blank values in the columns I have omitted. The TableAdpater has the default Fill and GetData() methods that come from the wizard, which contain every column in the table, which is fine. I then added a new parameterized query method called GetActiveJobsByCustNo(CustNo), and I only included a few columns in the SQL query that I actually want to be in this table view. But, again, it returns all the columns in the master table schema, with empty values for the columns I omitted. The reason I am wanting this, is so I can just get a few columns back to use that table view with AutoGenerateColumns in an ASP.NET GridView. With it giving me back EVERY column i nthe schema, my presentation GridView contains way more columns that I want to show th user. And, I want to avoid have to declare the columns in the GridView.

  I have searched the net and searched the net only to not quite find the probably I am running into. I am currently having an issue getting a SqlDataAdapter to populate a DataSet. I am running Visual Studio 2008 and the query is being sent to a local instance of SqlServer 2008. If I run the query itself in SqlServer, I do get information.   I have an SQL statement in my C# program that looks like: SELECT * FROM XXX.dbo.XXX WHERE Source = 'OH' AND partnum = '1231202085' ORDER BY partnum, Packaging, Quantity When running this query in SQL Server Management, the results are ordered as expected. My first 3 results have the same partnum and Packaging with Quantities of 32.0, 50.8, and 51.0. However, when I run the query from my program, the result set with quantity 50.8 is the first to be returned. The datatype of Quantity is decimal(18,9). I've tried cast, it doesn't appear to be a datatype problem. I cant figure out why its getting the middle quantity.

The first table is info about each festival The second table is the number of votes for each festival The third table is reviews for each festival I want to join all 3 tables so i get all the feilds from table1, join table1 with table2 on the festivalid but i also need to count the number of records in table 3 that applys to each festival.   Hello everyone, I have a table Student with 2 fields: Name: nvarchar(256) Age: int User will use a WinForm application to input a Name and a Age for searching. If inputted Name is empty, sql will not query Name field. If inputted Age is 0, sql will not query Age field. If Name is Null and inputted Name is empty - record is matched. If Name is Null and inputted Name is not empty - record is not matched. And also similar for Age field. My problem is that how to write a sql like this. P/S: I use SQL Server 2005. Please help me. Here is the layout of my tables: member_login: MemberID, email, password member_info: memberID, first_name, last_name member_friends: friendID, req_member, req_date, app_member, app_date, date_deactivated I tried to use NOT IN to run a query that would return the opposite of friends but nothing I try seems to be working. • Console-like control that allows full control over individual text formatting

  I'm tinkering with writing a simple text-based role-playing game. I would like to use WinForms, and utilize WinForm controls for the UI and simple text for the output. The catch is, I would like to have complete control over the formatting of the individual text - some words being different colors, etc. A simple console control would suffice, as that would provide control over text colors, but it would be nice to also be able to change style, font and size. Less important: it would be nice to have complete control over where text appears in the control through a coordinate system, as with DOS windows of old. I'd appreciate suggestions on the best method of implementing this. Perhaps there is a better method I had not considered for rendering the output of a text-based game.
