  • Choosing a Java IDE for homework assignments

    - by Andrew
Can anyone recommend a light Java IDE that doesn't require you to make new projects each time you want to compile and run a program? I just want to be able to open java files and compile and run them. I have already tried Eclipse and NetBeans but both require you to make a new project each time you want to compile and run a program. Making a new project is fine for large scale projects but for small school assignments this just makes the process more tedious. Thanks

  • Can't mass-assign protected attributes -- unsolved issue

    - by nfriend21
    I have read about 10 different posts here about this problem, and I have tried every single one and the error will not go away. So here goes: I am trying to have a nested form on my users/new page, where it accepts user-attributes and also company-attributes. When you submit the form: Here's what my error message reads: ActiveModel::MassAssignmentSecurity::Error in UsersController#create Can't mass-assign protected attributes: companies app/controllers/users_controller.rb:12:in `create' Here's the code for my form: <%= form_for @user do |f| %> <%= render 'shared/error_messages', object: f.object %> <%= f.fields_for :companies do |c| %> <%= c.label :name, "Company Name"%> <%= c.text_field :name %> <% end %> <%= f.label :name %> <%= f.text_field :name %> <%= f.label :email %> <%= f.text_field :email %> <%= f.label :password %> <%= f.password_field :password %> <%= f.label :password_confirmation %> <%= f.password_field :password_confirmation %> <br> <% if current_page?(signup_path) %> <%= f.submit "Sign Up", class: "btn btn-large btn-primary" %> Or, <%= link_to "Login", login_path %> <% else %> <%= f.submit "Update User", class: "btn btn-large btn-primary" %> <% end %> <% end %> Users Controller: class UsersController < ApplicationController def index @user = User.all end def new @user = User.new end def create @user = User.create(params[:user]) if @user.save session[:user_id] = @user.id #once user account has been created, a session is not automatically created.   • Use different updatetargetid based on view

    - by Jerrie Pelser
I have a web page which display a list of items in a HTML table. Above the list is a form which allows the user to add a new item to the list via AJAX (using Ajax.BeginForm). When the data is posted to the controller via AJAX I add the new item to the database backend and generate a new table row via a Partial View which then gets appended to the exisiting table. When the form to add new items however contains errors, I want to render the form back to the web browser and display that. So here is the question: Is it possible to specify the UpdateTargetId from within the controller? At the moment whatever View I return from the controller gets inserted in the same target, but I would like to update a different target (ie. different UpdateTargetId) based on whatever view was returned from the controller. Any help would be appreciated...

  • Reading serialised object from file

    - by nico
Hi everyone. I'm writing a little Java program (it's an ImageJ plugin, but the problem is not specifically ImageJ related) and I have some problem, most probably due to the fact that I never really programmed in Java before... So, I have a Vector of Vectors and I'm trying to save it to a file and read it. The variable is defined as: Vector <Vector <myROI> > ROIs = new Vector <Vector <myROI> >(); where myROI is a class that I previously defined. Now, to write the vector to a file I use: void saveROIs() { SaveDialog save = new SaveDialog("Save ROIs...", imp.getTitle(), ".xroi"); String name = save.getFileName(); if (name == null) return; String dir = save.getDirectory(); try { FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream(dir+name); ObjectOutputStream oos = new ObjectOutputStream(fos); oos.writeObject(ROIs); oos.close(); } catch (Exception e) { IJ.log(e.toString()); } } This correctly generates a binary file containing (I suppose) the object ROIs. Now, I use a very similar code to read the file: void loadROIs() { OpenDialog open = new OpenDialog("Load ROIs...", imp.getTitle(), ".xroi"); String name = open.getFileName(); if (name == null) return; String dir = open.getDirectory(); try { FileInputStream fin = new FileInputStream(dir+name); ObjectInputStream ois = new ObjectInputStream(fin); ROIs = (Vector <Vector <myROI> >) ois.readObject(); // This gives error ois.close(); } catch (Exception e) { IJ.log(e.toString()); } } But this function does not work. First, I get a warning: warning: [unchecked] unchecked cast found : java.lang.Object required: java.util.Vector<java.util.Vector<myROI>> ROIs = (Vector <Vector <myROI> >) ois.readObject(); ^ I Googled for that and see that I can suppress by prepending @SuppressWarnings("unchecked"), but this just makes things worst, as I get an error: <identifier> expected ROIs = (Vector <Vector <myROI> >) ois.readObject(); ^ In any case, if I omit @SuppressWarnings and ignore the warning, the object is not read and an exception is thrown java.io.WriteAbortedException: writing aborted; java.io.NotSerializableException: myROI Again Google tells me myROI needs to implements Serializable. I tried just adding implements Serializable to the class definition, but it is not sufficient. Can anyone give me some hints on how to procede in this case? Also, how to get rid of the typecast warning?

  • ArrayCollection loop through for matching items

    - by charlie
Hi I hope someone can help me..... i am trying to build a dynamic form for a questionnaire module. Building on some previous posts I am using the process similar to that in question "http://stackoverflow.com/questions/629021/how-to-generate-a-formmxform-dynamically-in-flex" i have managed to prove out the fact of extending the XML to include a calendar, combobox etc. my problem is that now need to get the data from an ArrayCollection rather than from an xml file. I am looking to loop through the AC and where type = "text" render a textinput field, where a type ="calendar" render a Calendar etc etc. my code so far just looking at a textinput field (and sorry for all the comments included ;) is:- [Bindable] public var AC:ArrayCollection = new ArrayCollection( [ {type:'text', direction:'horizontal', tooltip:'test tooltip', label:'my textbox label', id:'1'}, {type:'text', direction:'horizontal', tooltip:'another tooltip', label:'another label', id:'2'} ]); private function init():void { var form:Form = new Form(); for each(var elements:XML in AC) { switch( [email protected]()) { case "text": var fi:FormItem = new FormItem(); // fi.toolTip = elements.tooltip.toString(); // fi.required = getglobalprofile.required.toString(); // fi.direction = getglobalprofileb[i].@direction; var li:Label = new Label(); // li.text = getglobalprofileb[i].@label; // li.width = 100; var ti:TextInput = new TextInput(); ti.text = "test"; ti.width = 200; form.addChild(fi); fi.addChild(li); fi.addChild(ti); // break; } } this.addChild( form); } ]] <mx:Form id="form" name="form"> </mx:Form> if you are interested in the working xml version (rendering only) let me know and i will post this as well

  • How to place images on top of each other in java

    - by Haxed
Hi, I have a background image of a road, which I have displayed on a JFrame using an ImageIcon. I want to put a car on top of that background image at a certain (x,y) location. I tried using another ImageIcon and the background does not appear when I run the program , however the car does. import javax.swing.ImageIcon; import javax.swing.JFrame; import javax.swing.JLabel; public class Gui extends JFrame { private ImageIcon northcar = new ImageIcon("src/north.gif"); private ImageIcon usIcon = new ImageIcon("src/trafficLight.jpg"); public Gui() { add(new JLabel(usIcon)); // background image does not appear after the i added the northcar label add(new JLabel(northcar)); // this picture can be seen } public static void main(String[] args) { Gui frame = new Gui(); frame.setTitle("TestImageIcon"); frame.setLocationRelativeTo(null); // Center the frame frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); frame.setBounds(0, 0, 650, 650); frame.setVisible(true); } } I heard about using a canvas but have no clue. Any ideas ? Many Thanks

  • Is the REST support in Spring 3's MVC Framework production quality yet?

    - by glenjohnson
Hi all, Since Spring 3 was released in December last year, I have been trying out the new REST features in the MVC framework for a small commercial project involving implementing a few RESTful Web Services which consume XML and return XML views using JiBX. I plan to use either Hibernate or JDBC Templates for the data persistence. As a Spring 2.0 developer, I have found Spring 3's (and 2.5's) new annotations way of doing things quite a paradigm shift and have personally found some of the new MVC annotation features difficult to get up to speed with for non-trivial applications - as such, I am often having to dig for information in forums and blogs that is not apparent from going through the reference guide or from the various Spring 3 REST examples on the web. For deadline-driven production quality and mission critical applications implementing a RESTful architecture, should I be holding off from Spring 3 and rather be using mature JSR 311 (JAX-RS) compliant frameworks like RESTlet or Jersey for the REST layer of my code (together with Spring 2 / 2.5 to tie things together)? I had no problems using RESTlet 1.x in a previous project and it was quite easy to get up to speed with (no magic tricks behind the scenes), but when starting my current project it initially looked like the new REST stuff in Spring 3's MVC Framework would make life easier. Do any of you out there have any advice to give on this? Does anyone know of any commercial / production-quality projects using, or having successfully delivered with, the new REST stuff in Spring 3's MVC Framework. Many thanks Glen

  • Scala newbie vproducer/consumer attempt running out of memory

    - by Nick
I am trying to create a producer/consumer type Scala app. The LoopControl just sends a message to the MessageReceiver continually. The MessageReceiver then delegates work to the MessageCreatorActor (whose work is to check a map for an object, and if not found create one and start it up). Each MessageActor created by this MessageCreatorActor is associated with an Id. Eventually this is where I want to do business logic. But I run out of memory after 15 minutes. Its finding the cached actors, but quickly runs out of memory. Any help is appreciated. Or any one has any good code on producers consumers doing real stuff (not just adding numbers), please post. import scala.actors.Actor import java.util.HashMap import scala.actors.Actor._ case object LoopControl case object MessageReceiver case object MessageActor case object MessageActorCreator class MessageReceiver(msg: String) extends Actor { var messageActorMap = new HashMap[String, MessageActor] val messageCreatorActor = new MessageActorCreator(null, null) def act() { messageCreatorActor.start loop { react { case MessageActor(messageId) => if (msg.length() > 0) { var messageActor = messageActorMap.get(messageId); if(messageActor == null) { messageCreatorActor ! MessageActorCreator(messageId, messageActorMap) }else { messageActor ! • Search a string in a file and write the matched lines to another file in Java

    - by Geeta
For searching a string in a file and writing the lines with matched string to another file it takes 15 - 20 mins for a single zip file of 70MB(compressed state). Is there any ways to minimise it. my source code: getting Zip file entries zipFile = new ZipFile(source_file_name); entries = zipFile.entries(); while (entries.hasMoreElements()) { ZipEntry entry = (ZipEntry)entries.nextElement(); if (entry.isDirectory()) { continue; } searchString(Thread.currentThread(),entry.getName(), new BufferedInputStream (zipFile.getInputStream(entry)), Out_File, search_string, stats); } zipFile.close(); Searching String public void searchString(Thread CThread, String Source_File, BufferedInputStream in, File outfile, String search, String stats) throws IOException { int count = 0; int countw = 0; int countl = 0; String s; String[] str; BufferedReader br2 = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(in)); System.out.println(CThread.currentThread()); while ((s = br2.readLine()) != null) { str = s.split(search); count = str.length - 1; countw += count; //word count if (s.contains(search)) { countl++; //line count WriteFile(CThread,s, outfile.toString(), search); } } br2.close(); in.close(); } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- public void WriteFile(Thread CThread,String line, String out, String search) throws IOException { BufferedWriter bufferedWriter = null; System.out.println("writre thread"+CThread.currentThread()); bufferedWriter = new BufferedWriter(new FileWriter(out, true)); bufferedWriter.write(line); bufferedWriter.newLine(); bufferedWriter.flush(); } Please help me. Its really taking 40 mins for 10 files using threads and 15 - 20 mins for a single file of 70MB after being compressed. Any ways to minimise the time.

  • Rails routes and model woes

I'm a little new to rails sorry if this seems basic Alright so here's the deal I'm creating an application that will have many users and all the users have many songs. However when I try to create a song I get the following error:No action responded to 1. Actions: create and new and my browser is at the url: http://0.0.0.0:3000/users/1/songs which is not the correct route it should have redirected to songs/create Here is my controller code: class SongsController < ApplicationController def index @user = current_user @songs = @user.songs end def new @user = current_user @song = @user.songs.build end def create @user = current_user @song = @user.songs.build(params[:song]) if @song.save redirect_to user_song_url(@user, @song) else render :action => "new" end end end If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it.

  • Modify values on-the-fly during SqlAdapter.Fill( )

    - by Timothy
What would the proper way be to modify values on the fly as they are loaded into a DataTable by SqlAdapter.Fill()? I have globalized my application's log messages. An integer indicating the event type and serialized data relevant to the event is stored in the database as show below. When I display the logged events through a DataGridView control to the user, I interpolate the data to a formatting string. event_type event_timestamp event_details ============================================ 3 2010-05-04 20:49:58 jsmith 1 2010-05-04 20:50:42 jsmith ... I am currently iterating through the DataTable's rows to format the messages. public class LogDataTable : DataTable { public LogDataTable() { Locale = CultureInfo.CurrentCulture; Columns.AddRange(new DataColumn[] { new DataColumn("event_type", typeof(Int32)), new DataColumn("event_timestamp", typeof(DateTime)), new DataColumn("event_details", typeof(String))}); } } ... using (SqlDataAdapter adapter = new SqlDataAdapter(...)) { adapter.SelectCommand.Parameters.AddRange(new Object[] { ... }); adapter.Fill(table); } foreach (DataRow row in table.Rows) { switch ((LogEventType)row["event_type"]) { case LogEventType.Create: row["event_details"] = String.Format(Resources.Strings.LogEventCreateMsg, row["event_details"]; break; case LogEventType.Create: row["event_details"] = String.Format(Resources.Strings.LogEventCreateMsg, row["event_details"]; break; ... The end result as displayed would resemble: Type Date and Time Details ==================================================================== [icon] 2010-05-04 20:49:58 Failed login attempt with username jsmith [icon] 2010-05-04 20:50:42 Successful login with username jsmith ... It seems wasteful to iterate the result set twice-- once as the table is filled by the adapter, and again to perform the replacements. I would really like to do the replacement on-the-fly in my LogDataTable class as it is being populated. I have tried overriding an OnRowChanging method in LogDataTable, which throws an InRowChangingEventException. protected override void OnRowChanging(DataRowChangeEventArgs e) { base.OnRowChanging(e); switch ((LogEventType)row["event_type"]) ... I have tried overriding an OnRowChanged method, which throws a StackOverflowException (I assume changing it re-triggers the method ad infinitum?). I have tried overriding an OnTableNewRow method, which does not throw an exception but appears not to be invoked (I assume only when a user adds a row in the view, which I've prevented). I'd greatly appreciate any assistance anyone can give me.

  • Help with use of .NET Generics/Dictionary in replacing my Arrays

    - by Rollo R
Hello, I have these code: Mypage.cs string[] strParameterName = new string[2] {"?FirstName", "?LastName"}; string[] strParameterValue = new string[2] {"Josef", "Stalin"}; MyConnection.MySqlLink(strConnection, strCommand, strParameterName, strParameterValue, dtTable); Myclass.cs public static void MySqlLink(string strConnection, string strCommand, string[] strParameterName, string[] strParameterValue, DataTable dtTable) { dtTable.Clear(); MySqlConnection MyConnection = new MySqlConnection(strConnection); MySqlCommand MyCommand = new MySqlCommand(strCommand, MyConnection); for (int i = 0; i < strParameterName.Length; i++) { MyCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue(strParameterName[i].ToString(), strParameterValue[i].ToString()); } MySqlDataAdapter MyDataAdapter = new MySqlDataAdapter(MyCommand); MyDataAdapter.Fill(dtTable); } And then my Sql Command will be something like "SELECT * FROM MyTable WHERE FirstName=?FirstName AND LastName=?LastName" As you can see, I am using arrays for the Parameter Name and Parameter Value and they both have to "match" with each other and ofcourse the Sql Command. Someone recommended to me that I use .NET "Dictionary" instead of arrays. Now I have never used that before. Can someone show me a relative example of how I am to use .NET Dictionary here?

  • What should I do if a IOException is thrown?

    - by Roman
I have the following 3 lines of the code: ServerSocket listeningSocket = new ServerSocket(earPort); Socket serverSideSocket = listeningSocket.accept(); BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(serverSideSocket.getInputStream())); The compiler complains about all of these 3 lines and its complain is the same for all 3 lines: unreported exception java.io.IOException; In more details, these exception are thrown by new ServerSocket, accept() and getInputStream(). I know I need to use try ... catch .... But for that I need to know what this exceptions mean in every particular case (how should I interpret them). When they happen? I mean, not in general, but in these 3 particular cases.

  • In Javascript, by what mechanism does setting an Image src property trigger an image load?

    - by brainjam
One of the things you learn early on when manipulating a DOM using Javascript is the following pattern: var img = new Image(); // Create new Image object img.onload = function(){ // execute drawImage statements here } img.src = 'myImage.png'; // Set source path As far as I know, in general when you set an object property there are no side effects. So what is the mechanism for triggering an image load? Is it just magic? Or can I use a similar mechanism to implement a class Foo that supports a parallel pattern? var foo = new Foo(); // Create new object foo.barchanged = function(){ // execute something after side effect has completed } foo.bar = 'whatever'; // Assign something to 'bar' property I'm vaguely aware of Javascript getters and setters. Is this how Image.src triggers a load?
