• C# MDX RenderToSurface, where to reset after device is lost?

  Hi, I got a problem with the RenderToSurface class. When I resize the Form of my Device, the Draw method is still called, but doesnt throw an Exception, it looks like this: device.Clear(ClearFlags.Target, Color.Red, 0, 0); device.BeginScene(); // here is out commented code device.EndScene(); device.Present(); In another method, I wrote this: renderToSurface.BeginScene(surfaces[currentIndex]); // here is out commented code renderToSurface.EndScene(Filter.None); and this method seems to throw a nullpointer exception when I resize the window; So my question is: - where to reset / restore / handle the renderToSurface class? MongoDB, CouchDB etc. are becoming popular to work with web-scale data.   Hi all, I am building a small facebook application. I am using asp.net and currently working with the fb:req-choice control (tied along with fb:request-form and fb:multi-friend-selector). Problem is, that when I specify the redirect url for when the user clicks my invitation, instead of getting what I specified: http://apps.facebook.com/myApp/forum.aspx?tId=1&ref=app&code=2.74rRNejG7tpAOqgDCNf8qA__.3600.1275202400-106570384737670%7CPi8JpoHDW3xGuq2lxdZl1d4CLUU.   Developing a community site where everyone can post text, I'm looking for a markup filter: What is not part of the markup must be escaped (htmlspecialchars()) as it is. Should turn URL-s automatically into links Should support some form of basic markups (bold, image, url, pre, list) Should have a simple parser, that turns user input text into HTML Content on the site is public to everyone, XSS must not allowed to happen. What do you suggest? What markup language in the first place? BBCode? Wiki? Markdown? Are there any complete API-s with good examples? PHP is available on the server side. If there is a WYSIWYG-like texarea in addition (like here on SO) that would be a fantastic bonus!

  I have just installed C# for the first time, and at first glance it appears to be very similar to VB6. I decided to start off by trying to make a 'Hello, World!' UI Edition. I started in the Form Designer and made a button named "Click Me!" proceeded to double-click it and typed in MessageBox("Hello, World!"); I received the following error: MessageBox is a 'type' but used as a 'variable' Fair enough, it seems in C# MessageBox is an Object. I tried the following MessageBox a = new MessageBox("Hello, World!"); I received the following error: MessageBox does not contain a constructor that takes '1' arguments Now I am stumped. Please help.

• Rails show latest entry

  Hi Everyone, I have a working Rails application on version 2.3.5 - I am using many to many model relations and have got almost everything working. What I would like to do is on my new kase page show the most recent kase job ref at the top. So for example, if I created a new kase with a job ref of "001", if I then went to create a new kase it would show at the top "Your previous kases reference was 001". I have the field of jobref in the new kase form, so I am trying to workout what I need to do to output only the last jobref. If that makes sense! Thanks, Danny

  I am trying to create a message-board type element in a CakePHP app. This element will be displayed on all pages and views that use a particular layout. I want it to display all the messages in the model, then show the add form when a link is clicked, then return to the updated message list when submitted. All this without affecting the current view/page. I have my message model/controller/index set up, with a message board element that requests the index action. This works fine. However I am perplexed about how to return back to the original page/action from which the link was clicked. I can't use $this-referer() because that will link back to the add() action; what I want rather is to link to the page/view before that. Any general pointers on how to achieve something like this?

  in a form i have a buttoin, when click both OnclientClick and postback should happen. on clicking the "Email" button a client side "mailto" tag should do the work and pull a new message window on the client's machine. whereas, the email addresses should be invoked by the post back. so , when clicking the button the server side post should happen and on return the client side script should be invokded with the values read during post back, and populate all the email addresses. i need know how to first do a server hit take the values and then execute the client script with those values without using AJAX

• Reliable way to get the "ancestor" of an object with a specific classname, using jQuery

  I've got a javascript function that gets called on change event of a select form element. So, the "this" variable in js refers to the select element. This select element is in a td tag, in a tr tag. The tr tag has a classname of "FilterDetailsRow". Now, I've tested, and if I use this syntax: var filterRow = $(this).parent().parent(); it gets me what I want. However, is there a better way to tell jQuery, "starting with "this" can you please go up my tree of parents until you find one with a classname of "FilterDetailsRow"? Here's what I came up with, but I want to make sure I"m not reinventing the wheel. function GetFilterDetailsRowOfObject(o) { if (o) { if (o.parent()[0].className.indexOf("FilterDetailsRow") != -1) return o; else return GetFilterDetailsRowOfObject(o.parent()); } else { return null; } } Thanks for any advice.

• NServiceBus is blocking when hosted in ASP.NET web application

  Hello, I created a simple web application where a search form is filled out, submit button clicked, and a message is sent with the search parameters via nServiceBus. I also have a handler in the same project that picks up the message (from the same queue). For some reason, the web server process blocks until after the message is picked up, is there any reason for this? I set a breakpoint in the message handler and it breaks before the request finishes... locking the browser until I allow the code to continue. I would expect control to return to the browser regardless of when the handler gets fired... Thanks, D.Niemeyer

• Problem with image path of html files viewed by webbrowser control

  I have an webbrowser control on my form. I am able display html files in that control. But my page contains some images if i give absolute path to it then images are displayed. But if i give relative path then images are not shown in the pages. I have HtmlPages folder located at bin folder. And i am assigning FileStream source = new FileStream(@"..\HtmlPages\supportHtml.html", FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read); webBrowser.DocumentStream = source; If i assign D:\myapp\bin\HtmlPages\file.png then there is no problem. My images are stored in same folder. If i open html files with webbrowser then images are displayed. What is the correct path to set ??

  This is more of a thought i had awhile rather than an actual problem to solve, maybe more a discussion, but i was wondering if it would be possible to design the game of solitaire and be abkle to play it in the python GUI or some other form of iterface? I know you can get a deck of cards fairly easily and i know yuo can play simple games like snap and so on but i thought solitaire would be more challenging and fun because there is alot more logic behind it than just laying out the cards randomly. Any ideas? (I would be intrested to hear about or see any solutions if anyone had any links etc..)

• How can I load static configuration information

  In my code, I use JavaScript for UI and PHP for back end. I also use PHP to store application settings and sometimes my UI code needs to access this information. My configuration file looks something like this (config.php): $resolution_x = 1920; $resolution_y = 1080; etc... When I need to access any of these settings form JavaScript, i simply use <?php echo ... ?> to substitute the value directly, but it just doesn't strike me as very robust. Are they any dangers of doing this that I am not aware of? Is there a better way of doing this? Thank you,

  I’m getting an HttpRequestValidationexception with this error message: “A potentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected from the client”. But I have AllowHtml on the property that I’m getting the error. The problem is that later in my code I’m getting the following property to know in witch format I will show my view ControllerContext.HttpContext.Request.Params.AllKeys.Contains("format"). And on this “Param Getter” I’m getting the error. • C#, WinForms: Which view type for periodically updated list?

  I'm having an application, that periodically polls a web service (about every 10 seconds). In my application logic I'm having a List<Message> holding the messages. All messages have an id, and might be received out of order. Therefore the class implements the Comparable Interface. What WinForm control would fit to be regurarly updated (with the items in order). I plan to hold the last 500 messages. Should I sort the list and then update the whole form? Or is data binding approriate (concerning performance)?

• Why is QProcess converting the '=' in my arguments to spaces

  I've run into a weird error with a Qt program running on Windows. The program uses QProcess to spawn a child process wit two arguments. The program and arguments passed to the QProcess::start() method are of the form: "batchfile.bat" "--option1=some_value" "--option2=some_other_value\with_a\path" For some reason by the time those options get to the batchfile for processing the equals signs have been converted to spaces and it now looks like: "batchfile.bat" "--option1 some_value" "--option2 some_other_value\with_a\path" because of this, the processing fails. Any ideas what could be causing the equal signs to be replaced by spaces? I'm using the mingw build of the QT 4.6.3 framework found on the Qt download page.

• Show a taskbar item with a NativeWindow

  My application is intended to work almost entirely through a Windows 7 taskbar item with the use of thumbnails and jump lists. I know I can easily create a Form and simply hide it, but this seems like overkill. Plus, I'd like to toy around with NativeWindow as much as possible, because I've never used it before. Essentially, I have a class called RootWindow that derives from NativeWindow. I don't need a visible window at all, but simply something to process window messages and provide a taskbar item that I can attach thumbnails and jump lists to. Is there some kind of special CreateParams option I need to pass to CreateHandle? Or am I out of luck?

• Matrix multiplication in java (RE-POST)

  Apologies for the re-post; the earlier time I'd posted I did not have all the details. My colleague, who quit the firm was a C# programmer, was forced to write Java code that involved (large, dense) matrix multiplication. He's coded his own DataTable class in Java, in order to be able to a) create indexes to sort and join with other DataTables b) do matrix multiplication. The code in its current form is NOT maintainable/extensible. I want to clean up the code, and thought using something like R within Java will help me focus on business logic rather than sorting, joining, matrix multiplication, etc. Plus, I'm very new to the concept of DataTable; I just want to replace the DataTable with 2D arrays, and let R handle the rest. (I currently do not know how to join 2 large datasets in java very efficiently Please let me know what you think. Also, are there any simple examples that I can take a look at?

• Security exception with ASP.NET AJAX toolkit

  I've got an ASP.NET WebForms app that I've written, which uses the ASP.NET AJAX Toolkit. I've put the MultiView control onto the web form, and it worked fine, when I had it under Vista. Well, I had to replace my machine (HD failed) and I went to Windows 7 Ultimate. I tried copying the ASP.NET app from the system (before it finally failed for good) and put it onto the Windows 7 machine. I can bring up the app fine, go to all pages, but the one with these controls on it. When I do I get the following error: Security Exception Description: The application attempted to perform an operation not allowed by the security policy. To grant this application the required permission please contact your system administrator or change the application's trust level in the configuration file. Exception Details: System.Security.SecurityException: Request for the permission of type 'System.Web.AspNetHostingPermission, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed. What's going on? How do I fix it?

• XDocument holding onto Memory?

  I have an appplication that does a XDocument.Load from a 20mb file and then gets passed to a form to view its contents: openFileDialog1.FileName = ""; if (openFileDialog1.ShowDialog() == DialogResult.OK) { AuditFile = XDocument.Load(openFileDialog1.FileName); fmAuditLogViewer AuditViewer = new fmAuditLogViewer(); AuditViewer.ReportDocument = AuditFile; AuditViewer.Init(); AuditViewer.ShowDialog(); AuditViewer.Dispose(); AuditFile.RemoveNodes(); AuditFile = null; } In Task Manager I can see the memory being used by my application shoot up when I open this file. When I have finished viewing this file in my application I call : myXDocument.RemoveNodes(); myXDocument = null; However the memory use in Task Manager is still pretty high against my app. Is the XDocument still being held in memory and can I decrease the memory usage by my app?

• How to validate ToCheckList jQuery plugin (or multiple select fields)?

  Anyone ever use the toChecklist jQuery plugin? It basically turns a multi-select box into a list of checkboxes. Makes it easier for users to understand that they can choose more than one item - excellent plugin. However, I'm trying to make sure that users on my site pick at least 1 item in the list. ToChecklist has the capability of limiting the selection to a max value, but not minimum. I'm already using the jQuery validate plugin to validate the whole form, any ideas to get it to work against a multi-select box (which would then hopefully just work with toChecklist)?
