• How to configure Exchange Server with AutoReply that sends the reply only once?

  If you configure Exchange Server 2007 for auto-reply on a public address, and the reply is sent to an address that also has auto-reply or out-of-office-auto-reply, then Exchange Server will receive a new message, same from-address, and will again send an auto-reply. This can go on forever and can potentially lead to a DoS situation. How can I prevent multiple sending of auto-reply to the same address, preferably in a given timeframe (to prevent legitimate multiple mails to be treated incorrectly), using Exchange Server 2007? Our XS hosting provider says it cannot be done, but that strikes me as odd.

• Windows 2003 IIS FTP Server Migration w/ User Accounts

  I'm trying to figure out the best way to migrate an FTP server from old hardware to new hardware. The server is on a domain, but not all the users setup on the server (to use FTP) are domain accounts, some are local to the server. For example, I have users both ways: domain\username machinename\username The new machine name will be different. So I need to copy all the files with permissions in tact from the old server to the new server. Then I need to convert all the user accounts from the old server to the new server. Then I need to change the file permissions so that they are no longer oldserver\username but newserver\username. Can this be accomplished all with CALCS? Is there an easy way that perhaps I'm missing?

For now I want to create dual-boot or even triple boot layouts on my laptop machine Here's the layout in use now: * (C:) Windows 7 system partition NTFS - 284,89GB (Primary,Boot,Pagefile,Dump) * HP_TOOLS system partition FAT32 - 99MB (Primary) * (D:) RECOVERY partition NTFS - 12,90GB (Primary) * SYSTEM partition NTFS 199MB (Primary) Here's the layout I want to make. * (C:) Windows 7 system partition NTFS - 60GB (Primary) (sda1) * (D:) Windows data partition (user files) NTFS - 60GB(Extended or Primary)(sda2);wanna share with Linux * Linux root Ext4 - 10GB (Primary)(sda3) * Linux swap swap- RAM size, 3GB (sda4) * Linux home Ext4- 164,9GB (Extended)(sda5) Question 1: Is the layout that i want to make correct as the Primary and Extended Partition concerns ? Question 2: Can I definitely get rid of SYSTEM Boot loader of windows? Question 3: If I get rid of HP_TOOLS and RECOVERY partition will it be a problem? • Where to start? Server profiling tools

  So I have a website, users upload images, people view images etc. Simple enough. Lots of writes and reads everywhere. Its built in MySQL and PHP on Apache. We have one dedicated server. Right now we are getting hammered with unexpected press and users and our CPU cycle is out of control, slowing down the entire site. Off hand I am guessing its either the saving of the image to the disk, or the Mysql queries. What tools can I use to educate myself on what is happening and pinpoint the problem? How can I find out what is happening in detail in this time of crisis?

• Windows Server 2003 seems to pick the 'outgoing' IP address at random from all the ones configured in IIS, how can I make it just use one?

  We have multiple sites in IIS with different IP addresses. This is cool, want different IPs to all go to this server and use the proper site. However I discovered an issue that when the server makes an outgoing connection, I cannot predict which IP it will use. I had to have one client add ALL the IPs to their firewall so that a certain service could communicate with their server. Well now the time has come to add another IP/site to IIS but I had told them they would not need to add any more IPs. So the question is, how can I make Windows Server 2003 use only ONE specific IP for outgoing calls instead of it being unpredictable? If this is not a good enough description, when I was RDPed into the server and I opened IE and went to 'what is my IP' it was sometimes different which is how I discovered why the one client's firewall was suddenly refusing the connections. How can I just make outgoing calls originate from a static IP yet still allow multiple IPs pointing to different sites in IIS?

• Entourage Reminders for events not on calendar

  After a series of nasty mishaps, I needed to create a new Entourage profile and re-populate my calendar by resynching it with my Exchange Server. Now I'm receiving multiple notifications for a single appointment -- two or even four at once. (Perhaps four is due to the intermediate 'reset' attempts I made before discarding and creating a new profile.) Reviewing my calendar I see only a single appointment, not multiple appointments. Checking my Outlook calendar confirms only a single appointment. My local calendar is completely empty. Is there a separate Entourage database for reminders that I can clear or resync? Is there somewhere else for calendar appointments to live where I'm not looking?

• Windows / Apache / PHP CPU at 100% under small load

  I have a Windows box loaded with Apache 2.2 and PHP 5.2. It runs great if only a few users are on it at a time, but under load testing (50 users for test #1), the CPU climbs up to 100%. Nearly all of this CPU usage comes from httpd.exe. I currently have PHP set up via php5_module, but one of the first things I plan to try next is to use FastCGI instead. Is FastCGI better at handling multiple connections? Any other ideas on what might be causing Apache to run so high?

• How to reference a Domain Controller out of the Local Network?

  We have multiple servers scattered over different hosting providers. For learning, experimenting and, ultimately, production purposes, I set one of them as a Domain Controller. That went well, most of our services are now authenticating via AD, which helps us a lot. What I want to do now is to simplify the authentication for the multiple servers, by making each of them look at the Domain Controller. This way, our Devs can log into (Remote Desktop) the multiple servers with the same credentials from AD. I know I have to configure each server to look at the Domain Controller. But when I try to add the Domain Controller to the Computer, it cannot find it, although the Domain Controller address is a valid, reachable internet sub-domain (as in "ad.ourcompany.com"). This is the detailed error message: Note: This information is intended for a network administrator. If you are not your network's administrator, notify the administrator that you received this information, which has been recorded in the file C:\Windows\debug\dcdiag.txt. The following error occurred when DNS was queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate an Active Directory Domain Controller for domain ad.ourcompany.com: The error was: "DNS name does not exist." (error code 0x0000232B RCODE_NAME_ERROR) The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.ad.ourcompany.com Common causes of this error include the following: - The DNS SRV records required to locate a AD DC for the domain are not registered in DNS. These records are registered with a DNS server automatically when a AD DC is added to a domain. They are updated by the AD DC at set intervals. (the root zone) For information about correcting this problem, click Help. What am I missing? I'm an experienced Dev, but a newbie Sysdamin experimenting with new stuff. • Printer ports missing from network printers, Windows 7 laptops

  Have an odd issue where users take their laptops home and back into the office with network printers that get mapped via a login script but fail to print. After tracking down a user with this problem I found that the print driver had no ports available to it. We've mapped network printers for this site all the time but only since the introduction of the Konica Minolta C220 Bizhub has this issue cropped up. The issue occurs with Windows 7 users and it takes them 2 /3 reboots to have the ports recreated. Should I be looking at the server for this or at the Windows 7 machines?

  Hello, I know there is landscape from canonical, but it has some $$ costs. Als there is webmin, and it can be used as a cluster management tool. Also there is m23, probably the most usable and interesting peace of manager software. But, what would you suggest to install and use on following configuration: 1) 100 desktop users, against an AD with quest authentication services installed. (ubunt8.04,9.04,9.10,10.04) 2) 50 servers (debian sid, lenny , ubuntu 8.04 and 10.04) We work on different software, so each group of persons need different configurations, each server has different pourposses, nothing is clusterized. And we have a good enough backup software. • Create Webmin user for an EC2 Instance

  I've setup an Amazon EC2 Instance, using the Ubuntu 12.04 AMI (ubuntu/images/ebs/ubuntu-precise-12.04-amd64-server-20120424 (ami-a29943cb)), and I'd like to get Webmin working (so I can setup a DNS). After following the installation instructions on Webmin's site, the installer says I can login with any username/pass of a user who has superuser access. The problem is that the EC2 instance only has 1 user "ubuntu", which can only login using SSH keys -- not a password! I've tried creating users manually and I can't login as those users (even via SSH), so I think it might be a permission thing provided by the AMI. Does anyone know the best way around setting up a login to my webmin?

I don't want the users to download files with bittorrent (mainly used) and other p2p apps. I've also found some solutions about lowering p2p traffic priority using QoS. I really need to BAN p2p traffic. Does anyone know how to setup some rules to deny that kind of traffic ? I've tried to setup an Access Restriction Rule: But it's not working at all ...

  I'm trying to develop Assembly code allowing me to load and execute(by input of the user) 2 other Assembly .EXE programs. I'm having two problems: -I don't seem to be able to assign the pathname to a valid register(Or maybe incorrect syntax) -I need to be able to execute the other program after the first one (could be either) started its execution. • Subversion 1.7 on 12.04 precise: libsasl error, compiling from source?

  Background: I am a longtime Gentoo user, and this is my first time using Ubuntu (installed on a VM to avoid compiling everything from scratch). I am familiar with a Linux environment but somewhat unfamiliar with Ubuntu. I am trying to install Subversion 1.7 on Ubuntu and saw this post: Where can I find a Subversion 1.7 binary? The above post recommends using the PPA ppa:dominik-stadler/subversion-1.7. I also found the PPA ppa:svn/ppa from another link. They both cause problems for me. The issue is that any svn operation using the remote server causes the following error: svn: E170001: Unable to connect to a repository at URL 'svn+ssh://my_repo' svn: E170001: Could not create SASL context: generic failure: No such file or directory This seems to arise from a recent bug involving SVN dependency on the libsasl library, as documented by Debian users here: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=683555 and also Mac users here: https://trac.macports.org/ticket/34861 Resolution seems to involve either updating the cyrus-sasl or libsasl library to a newer version (neither of which is in the latest apt packages), or compiling subversion without SASL support. As a Gentoo user I started looking into how to compile svn from source, but it looks way more complicated on Ubuntu than I'm used to and I'm not sure what the canonical way is. My questions: Is there an obvious fix for this problem that I am overlooking? Is there a way to update the dependencies for SVN to something that works through using synaptic or apt-get? If I want to compile from scratch, how do I use the sources in the PPA instead of downloading my own source copy (i.e. the PPA has both binary and sources?)

• File Sharing: User-created folders are read-only to others on Mac 10.6 Server

  Hi there We recently got a new Mac Mini Server with 10.6 Server on it. It has two 500GB volumes, one of which [Macintosh HD2 the extra one other than the boot disk] we are using to share our work files. I have added a user account for each user in the Users pane on Server Preferences, and all our staff (users added to the system) are added to a new group, called toolboxstaff. Now, when a user creates a new folder on this volume, folders are created with read-only access for everyone else besides the owner. How do I set it that when a user creates a folder, it creates it with RW access for the toolboxstaff group? Thanks in advance.

• Whew.... what a week!

  Last week was a busy week for the UPK and Tutor teams at Oracle. It started with the the Collaborate Conference in Las Vegas and ended with our first UPK and Tutor Customer Advisory Board (CAB) meeting at Oracle HQ. The Collaborate Conference is a yearly event sponsored by three of the largest Oracle User Groups. • Oracle Applications User Group (OAUG) • Independent Oracle User Group (IOUG) • Quest - International User Group The User Groups are completely user run organizations with Oracle participation. If you've never attended a conference, time to start planning for the 2011 event in Orlando! If that's out of your reach, there are many regional and industry user groups that meet on a regular basis. They offer a great way to get involved, network with other users, and increase your knowledge around the Oracle applications. For a list of groups near you, check out the Oracle User Group Center. I'll add that the biggest meeting of Oracle users is at the Oracle Open World Conference in San Francisco in September, where we will have many UPK & Tutor focused development and customer sessions. More information on Oracle Open World will be forthcoming over the next few months. We hope to see many of you there! The CAB was a first for the UPK and Tutor team. Although we speak with customers regularly, this gave us an opportunity to meet in a more formal setting to discuss industry trends, business issues, and the direction of the products. Members serve a 2 year term and are required to attend 2 meetings per year, one in person, one via phone. We have some tweaking to do to our meeting format (most members wanted it to be longer!), but the overwhelming consensus was that it was a great success. There were many experiences and ideas shared and the wheels of the UPK and Tutor Development teams have been turning ever since. I'm sure you will see some of these discussions result in new product features over time. What a great week!

• How handle nifty initialization in a Slick2D state based game?

  I'm using Slick2D and Nifty GUI. I decided to use a state based approach for my game and since i want to use Nifty GUI, i use the classes NiftyStateBasedGame for the main and NiftyOverlayBasicGameState for the states.   Getting from client/server based 4GLs and databases where the 4GL is tightly linked to the database to Oracle and the cloud is not easy. The least risky and expensive option (in the short term) is to use the Progress OpenEdge DataServer for Oracle: Progress OpenEdge DataServer This eliminates the need to have to migrate the Progress 4GL to Java/J2EE. The database can be migrated using SQLWays Ispirer: Ispirer SQLWays ProgressDB migrations tool The Progress 4GL can remain as is. In order to get the application on the cloud there are a few approaches: 1. VDI - Virtual Desktop is a way to put all of the users desktop in a centralized environment off the desktop. This is great in cases where it is just not one client/server application that the user needs access too. In many cases, users will utilize MS Access, MS Excel, Crystal Reports and other tools to get at the Progress DB and other centralized databases. Vmware's acquistion of Wanova shows how VDI is growing in usage. Citrix is the 800 pound gorilla in the VDI space with Citrix WinFrame (now called XenDesktop). Oracle offers a VDI solution that Oracle picked up when it acquired Sun. 2. Hypervisor Server Virtualization - Of course you can place applications written in client/server languages like Progress 4GL buy using server virtualization from Oracle, VMWare, Microsoft, Citrix and others. 3. Microsoft Remote Desktop Services (aka: Terminal Services Client) The entire idea is to eliminate all the client/server desktop devices and connections which require desktop software and database drivers.
