  • swf listens to XML, AS3

    - by VideoDnd
    My swf listens to XML from a socket and document. How do I get 'my variables' to grab XML from the socket instead of the XML document? PURPOSE My purpose is to control variables with a XML Socket Server. I hope my question is clear, but ask if there's any questions. EXAMPLE Flash File import flash.net.*; import flash.display.*; import flash.events.*; import flash.system.Security; import flash.utils.Timer; import flash.events.TimerEvent; //MY VARIABLES, LINE 8-12 var timer:Timer = new Timer(10); var myString:String = ""; var count:int = 0; var myStg:String = ""; var fcount:int = 0; var xml_s=new XMLSocket(); xml_s.addEventListener(Event.CONNECT, socket_event_catcher);//OnConnect// xml_s.addEventListener(Event.CLOSE, socket_event_catcher);//OnDisconnect// xml_s.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, socket_event_catcher);//Unable To Connect// xml_s.addEventListener(DataEvent.DATA, socket_event_catcher);//OnDisconnect// xml_s.connect("localhost", 1999); function socket_event_catcher(Event):void { switch (Event.type) { case 'ioError' : trace("ioError: " + Event.text);//Unable to Connect :(// break; case 'connect' : trace("Connection Established!");//Connected :)// break; case 'data' : trace("Received Data: " + Event.data); //var myXML:XML=new XML(Event.data); //trace("myXML.body.file: " + myXML.body.file); //var myLoader:String=myXML.body.file; //var urlReq:URLRequest=new URLRequest(myLoader); //trace("file to load URL: " + urlReq); break; case 'close' : trace("Connection Closed!");//OnDisconnect :( // xml_s.close(); break; } } //LOAD XML var myXML:XML; var myLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader(); myLoader.load(new URLRequest("time.xml")); myLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, processXML); //var myXML:XML=new XML(Event.data); //trace("myXML.body.file: " + myXML.body.file); //var DOINK:String=myXML.body.file; //var urlReq:URLRequest=new URLRequest(DOINK); //trace("file to load URL: " + urlReq); //PARSE XML function processXML(e:Event):void { myXML = new XML(e.target.data); trace(myXML.COUNT.text()); //-77777 //grab the data as a string myString = myXML.COUNT.text() //grab the data as an int count = int(myXML.COUNT.text()); //grab the data as a string myString = myXML.COUNT.text() //grab the data as an int count = int(myXML.COUNT.text()); //grab the data as a string myStg = myXML.COUNT.text() //grab the data as an int fcount = int(myXML.COUNT.text()); //grab the data as a string myStg = myXML.COUNT.text() //grab the data as an int fcount = int(myXML.COUNT.text()); trace("String: ", myString); trace("Int: ", count); trace(count - 1); //just to show you that it's a number that you can do math with (-77778) //TEXT var text:TextField = new TextField(); text.text = myString; addChild(text); } Ruby Server 'Snippet' msg1 = {"msg" => {"head" => {"type" => "frctl", "seq_no" => seq_no, "version" => 1.0}, "SESSION" => {"text" => "88888", "timer" => -1000, "count" => 10, "fcount" => "10"}}} XML <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <SESSION> <TIMER TITLE="speed">100</TIMER> <COUNT TITLE="starting position">88888</COUNT> <FCOUNT TITLE="ramp">1000</FCOUNT> </SESSION> ENVIROMENT AS3 Ruby 186-25 PROBLEM Coding errors "coercion of value"

  • Using Fzip lib under Adobe Air App

    - by Rafael Oliveira
    I'm currently working on a project for Adobe Air (1.5.3) and I need to unzip a file, copy some of its contents to another file. Then I saw people talking about the Fzip (http://codeazur.com.br/lab/fzip) lib. The problem is that I don't know how to "import" or use this library with Javascript and Adobe Air, since Javascript doesn't have the import directive. How can I manage to do that ?

(btw i def want to know how to do that as well.)

  • Fast way to set text format for a range of Text using TLF

    - by wezzy
    Hi, i have to set the text format for some tokens in a plain text. I'm trying to use the Text Layout Framework to improve the speed of the operation but i've founded that TLF is far slower (10X in my tests) than the old setTextFormat(). For each token i call this function: public function setTextFormat(format:TextLayoutFormat, begin:int, end:int):void{ var selection:SelectionState = new SelectionState(this._textFlow, begin, end, this._normalFormat); IEditManager(_textFlow.interactionManager).applyLeafFormat(format, selection); } is there any faster and clever way to do this operation ? Thanks

  • Paddle Movement using Box2D

    - by Anubhav Sharma
    Hello everybody, I'm making a game like Arkanoid and to move the ship with mouse, I'm using the following code : var mousex:int = costume.stage.mouseX; if (mousex < paddleWidth/2) mousex = paddleWidth/2; else if (mousex > PhysiVals.STAGE_WIDTH - paddleWidth/2) mousex = PhysiVals.STAGE_WIDTH - paddleWidth / 2; var idealLocation:Point = new Point(mousex, ypos); var directionToTravel:b2Vec2 = new b2Vec2((idealLocation.x -> costume.x) * PhysiVals.paddleSpeed, idealLocation.y-costume.y); directionToTravel.Multiply(1 / PhysiVals.RATIO); directionToTravel.Multiply(30); body.SetLinearVelocity(directionToTravel); Everything's going fine there! The paddle is moving the way it should! The problem is I want a little inclination towards the direction its moving and when it stops moving the angle of inclination should become zero. I tried playing with the angular velocity but I have no real idea how to do this! So Please help!

  • Change the height of a list item when it's in edit mode

    - by toby
    I have custom list item renderers and editors for a List control. I need for the editor to have a greater height then the renderer, i.e., the row should expand(in height) when it goes into edit mode. However, even when the list's variableRowHeight is set to true, it doesn't do what I want: the height seems to be based on the height of the renderer only, not the editor. Is there any way to do what I want?

  • AS2 attaching or duplicating the MC

    - by ortho
    var myXML:XML = new XML(); myXML.ignoreWhite=true; myXML.load("tekst.xml"); myXML.onLoad = function(success){ var yC:Number = 65; if (success){ var myTxt:Array = Array(0); var myNode = this.firstChild.childNodes; for (i=0; i } } var c:Number = 70 for(hiThere=1;hiThere<5;hiThere++){ kropka1.duplicateMovieClip("circleCopy"+hiThere, c); this["circleCopy"+hiThere]._y=c; c += 20; } So my problem is that I want to create it dynamicaly as text fields above, now it creates only 4 MovieClips and I would like to specify the Y value from xml file and number of loops (here 5), but it should be the same condition as loop above. Please help

  • flex 3 cancel tooltip event

    - by gmoniey
    I am trying to cancel a tooltip event (I only want it to display when the mouse is hovered over a certain area), and can't seem to figure it out. I tried stopPropagation, preventDefault, and stopImmediatePropagation, but none of them seem to work. Here the code I am using: private function toolTipCreateHandler(event:ToolTipEvent):void { if(event.currentTarget.mouseX < 130) { var tooltip:PhotoToolTip = new PhotoToolTip(); tooltip.src = event.currentTarget.toolTip; event.toolTip = tooltip; } else { event.stopImmediatePropagation(); } } Any ideas? Thanks

  • FileReference.download() not working

    - by Lowgain
    I'm building a Flex app which requires me to download files. I have the following code: public function execute(event:CairngormEvent) : void { var evt:StemDownloadEvent = event as StemDownloadEvent; var req:URLRequest = new URLRequest(evt.data.file_path); var localRef:FileReference = new FileReference(); localRef.addEventListener(Event.OPEN, _open); localRef.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, _progress); localRef.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, _complete); localRef.addEventListener(Event.CANCEL, _cancel); localRef.addEventListener(Event.SELECT, _select); localRef.addEventListener(SecurityErrorEvent.SECURITY_ERROR, _securityError); localRef.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, _ioError); try { localRef.download(req); } catch (e:Error) { SoundRoom.logger.log(e); } } As you can see, I hooked up every possible event listener as well. When this executes, I get the browse window, and am able to select a location, and click save. After that, nothing happens. I have each event handler hooked up to my logger, and not a single one is being called! Is there something missing here?

  • Race condition firing events in AS3

The code below gives the following output: save poster into db, and dispatch event calling service, dispatch event removed = false calling service, dispatch event removed = false calling service, dispatch event removed = true save poster into db, and dispatch event save poster into db, and dispatch event of course this should be more something like: save poster into db, and dispatch event calling service, dispatch event removed = true save poster into db, and dispatch event calling service, dispatch event removed = true save poster into db, and dispatch event calling service, dispatch event removed = true Can someone help me with this? I'm running out of ideas on how to tackle this. thx! for(var i:int = 0;i< 3;i++){ createPoster(); } function createPoster(){ Main.db.savePoster(); Main.db.addEventListener(Config.evt_SAVEPOSTER_READY, callService); } function callService(){ Main.db.removeEventListener(Config.evt_SAVEPOSTER_READY, callService); }

  • How can I modify objects inside frames with AS3 in a permanent way?

    - by curro
    I have a MovieClip symbol created with flash in a fla file library. There is a textfield in frame one of this movieclip's timeline . There is another frame in the movieclip timeline. There is a custon class definition for this symbol. It is a flipping card in a memory game. I access the textfield by going to frame 2 (gotoAndStop(2)) and setting the textfield's text property ( this.field.text = "hello" ). However if I go to frame 1 and then return to frame 2, the text becomes the original one in the library's symbol. I have to modify the text propery again in a showFace method I've written. Besides, I cannot pass parameters in the constructor because it is a symbol in the library and that would give errors. I find this behaviour of flash extremely weird. Is there a way I can set properties inside frames permanently? Thank you

  • Problem Loading AS2 swf into AS3 swf

    - by dani
    I've been trying very hard to get an AS2 swf to load properly inside an AS3 swf - but to no avail ... The AS2 file (which is a rather big app referencing many external xml files etc.) works perfectly when launched in Flash Player. When trying to load the same file through an AS3 swf (using URLRequest and Loader classes), the file starts loading but stops abruptly during the preloading phase. (Same happens if I try to load it using AS2 "loadMovie".) What is there more to try? Security settings, custom loader classes - any advice is appreciated.

  • Flash Hates Me. Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference

    - by sol
    I simply create a movie clip, put it on the stage and give it an instance name of char. Here's my document class, simple as can be: public class Test extends MovieClip { public function Test() { char.x = 1315; char.y = 459; addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, mouseListen); } private function mouseListen(e:Event) { char.x = mouseX; char.y = mouseY; } } And I get this error: TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at com.me::Test/::mouseListen() How in the world is it possible that it knows what "char" is in the constructor but not in the mouseListen function? What else could it be?

  • Drawing Quadratic Bezier circles with a given radius: how to determine control points

    - by Casey
    Just to clarify; the code below works, but I don't understand where the formula for the variable "controlRadius" comes from. I wrote this function by dissecting an example I found elsewhere, but I can't find any explanation and the original code comments were not able to be translated. Thanks in advance //returns an array of quadratic Bezier segments public static function generateCircularQuadraticBezierSegments(radius:Number, numControlPoints:uint, centerX:Number, centerY:Number):Array { var segments:Array = []; var arcLength:Number = 2 * Math.PI / numControlPoints; var controlRadius:Number; var segment:QuadraticBezierSegment; for (var i:int = 0; i < numControlPoints; i++) { var startX:Number = centerX + radius * Math.cos(arcLength * i); var startY:Number = centerY + radius * Math.sin(arcLength * i); //control radius formula //where does it come from, why does it work? controlRadius = radius / Math.cos(arcLength * .5); //the control point is plotted halfway between the arcLength and uses the control radius var controlX:Number = centerX + controlRadius * Math.cos(arcLength * (i + 1) - arcLength * .5); var controlY:Number = centerY + controlRadius * Math.sin(arcLength * (i + 1) - arcLength * .5); var endX:Number = centerX + radius * Math.cos(arcLength * (i + 1)); var endY:Number = centerY + radius * Math.sin(arcLength * (i + 1)); segment = new QuadraticBezierSegment(new Point(startX, startY), new Point(controlX, controlY), new Point(endX, endY)); segments.push(segment); } return segments; }

  • pure as3 benefits to compiling with flex4 instead of flex3?

    - by jedierikb
    If I have a pure as3 project that I have been compiling with flex3 from mxmlc, is there any reason to switch to using the mxmlc with flex4? I can use all of the flash 10 language features like Vector, 3D, etc., so that is not a reason to switch (or is there something I can't do?). But maybe there is a performance boost? Or is the exact same compiling tool and the flex code base is the only difference?

  • Streaming support for flex with Ruby On Rails (working with live data )

    - by Ashine
    Hi Freinds, I am working on flex dasboards and charting stuff. Till now I have build them for static data only now I want to upgrade them to work for real time data where new data is continuosly sent to client (swf file) from server and it updates the same. I am using Ruby On Rails (RoR) at server side. Is there some thing similar to 'Adbobe live cycle(Java-Flex)' applicable for RoR-Flex architecture that can be used here ? Please share the links for any similar implementation in RoR-Flex architecture. Or if you have some suggestions to share I will really appreciate. Thanks friends.

  • Animation with Initial Velocity

    - by abustin
    I've been trying to solve this problem for a number of days now but I must be missing something. Known Variables: vi = Initial Velocity t = Animation Duration d = Distance The function I'm trying to create: D(t) = the current distance for a given time Using this information I want to be able to create a smooth animation curve with varying velocity (ease-in/ease-out). The animation must be able ease-in from an initial velocity. The animation must be exactly t seconds and must be travel exactly d units. The curve should lean towards the average velocity with acceleration occurring at the beginning and the end portions of the curve. I'm open to extra configuration variables. The best I've been able to come up with is something that doesn't factor in the initial velocity. I'm hoping someone smarter can help me out. ;) Thank you! p.s. I'm working with an ECMAScript variant

  • Why am I getting 'Argument count mismatch' error here?

    - by Leon
    I have a Document class, Intro class and Nav class. The Intro class runs first, then sends a custom dispatch event to run the Nav class, but I'm getting this error: removed Intro ArgumentError: Error #1063: Argument count mismatch on com.secrettowriting.StanPlayer.ui::Navigation/addNav(). • flash's "useHandCursor = true" not working for Chrome on Mac

    - by fucrate
    I'm developing a flash game using the default SimpleButton object for my buttons and the hand cursor is working just fine on PC Chrome and Firefox and Safari for Mac, but Chrome on Mac is not letting me swap the default cursor for the hand cursor. I've even set useHandCursor to true for every button I add a click event to and am still getting nothing. We've got no other rollover events, so it's important that the cursor switch. Anyone else run into this and have a lil-fixy / workaround?

  • Flex: Linebreak problem with spark.components.TextArea inside a MXDataGridItemRenderer

    - by radgar
    Hi, I have a DataGrid that has a MXDataGridItemRenderer applied as an itemEditor to one of the columns. The editor includes a spark.components.TextArea control. By default, any text item editor of a datagrid closes itself when [enter] key is pressed.. Keeping this in mind; What I want to do is: Prevent editor from closing on [SHIFT+ENTER] key but accept the linebreak (I can do this, see code below) Close the editor on [ENTER] key but do not accept the linebreak (could not achieve this) Here is the current code in the MXDataGridItemRenderer: <s:MXDataGridItemRenderer xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009" xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark" xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx" focusEnabled="true" > <fx:Script> <![CDATA[ protected function onTxtDataKeyDown(event:KeyboardEvent):void { //Prevent editor from closing on [SHIFT+ENTER] key but accept the linebreak // » this works if (event.shiftKey && event.keyCode == 13) { event.stopImmediatePropagation(); } //Close the editor on [ENTER] key but do not accept the linebreak else if (event.keyCode == 13) { event.preventDefault(); } // » does not work } ]]> </fx:Script> <s:TextArea id="txtData" paddingTop="3" lineBreak="explicit" text="{dataGridListData.label}" verticalScrollPolicy="auto" horizontalScrollPolicy="off" keyDown="onTxtDataKeyDown(event)" /> I also tried the textInput event but that did not do the trick. So: How can I prevent the linebreak when the editor is closed on [enter] key? Any help is appreciated. Thanks. EDIT: If I change the spark.components.TextArea to mx.controls.TextArea, second part with event.preventDefault() will work as expected but then the first part where SHIFT+ENTER accepts the linebreak will not work.
