  • The remote server returned an error: (400) Bad Request

    - by pravakar
    Hi, I am getting the following errors: "The remote server returned an error: (400) Bad Request" "Requested time out" sometimes when connecting to a host using a web service. If the XML returned is 5 kb then it is working fine, but if the size is 450kb or above it is displaying the error. Below is my code as well as the config file that resides at the client system. We don't have access to the settings of the server. Protected Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Dim fileName As String = Server.MapPath("capitaljobs2.xml") Dim client = New CapitalJobsService.DataServiceClient("WSHttpBinding_IDataService", "http://xyz/webservice.svc") Dim userAccount = New UserAccount() 'replace here Dim jobAdList = client.GetProviderJobs(userAccount) '## Needed only to create XML files - do not ucomment - will overwrite files 'if (jobAdList != null) ' SerialiseJobAds(fileName, jobAdList); '## Read new ads from Xml file Dim capitalJobsList = DeserialiseJobdAds(fileName) UpdateProviderJobsFromXml(client, userAccount, capitalJobsList) client.Close() End Sub Private Shared Function DeserialiseJobdAds(ByVal fileName As String) As CapitalJobsService.CapitalJobsList Dim capitalJobsList As CapitalJobsService.CapitalJobsList ' Deserialize the data and read it from the instance If File.Exists(fileName) Then Dim fs = New FileStream(fileName, FileMode.Open) Dim reader = XmlDictionaryReader.CreateTextReader(fs, New XmlDictionaryReaderQuotas()) Dim ser2 = New DataContractSerializer(GetType(CapitalJobsList)) capitalJobsList = DirectCast(ser2.ReadObject(reader, True), CapitalJobsList) reader.Close() fs.Close() Return capitalJobsList End If Return Nothing End Function And the config file <system.web> <httpRuntime maxRequestLength="524288" /> </system.web> <system.serviceModel> <bindings> <wsHttpBinding> <binding name="WSHttpBinding_IDataService" closeTimeout="00:10:00" openTimeout="00:10:00" receiveTimeout="00:10:00" sendTimeout="00:10:00" bypassProxyOnLocal="false" transactionFlow="false" hostNameComparisonMode="StrongWildcard" maxBufferPoolSize="2147483647" maxReceivedMessageSize="2147483647" messageEncoding="Text" textEncoding="utf-8" useDefaultWebProxy="true" allowCookies="false"> <readerQuotas maxDepth="2000000" maxStringContentLength="2000000" maxArrayLength="2000000" maxBytesPerRead="2000000" maxNameTableCharCount="2000000" /> <reliableSession ordered="true" inactivityTimeout="00:10:00" enabled="false" /> <security mode="None"> <transport clientCredentialType="Windows" proxyCredentialType="None" realm=""/> <message clientCredentialType="Windows" negotiateServiceCredential="true" establishSecurityContext="true"/> </security> </binding> </wsHttpBinding> </bindings> <client> <endpoint address="http://xyz/DataService.svc" binding="wsHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="WSHttpBinding_IDataService" contract="CapitalJobsService.IDataService" name="WSHttpBinding_IDataService"> <identity> <dns value="localhost"/> </identity> </endpoint> </client> </system.serviceModel> I am using "Fiddler" to track the activities it is reading and terminating file like * FIDDLER: RawDisplay truncated at 16384 characters. Right-click to disable truncation. * But in config the number 16348 is not mentioned anywhere. Can you figure out if the error is on client or server side? The settings above are on the client side. Thanks in advance.

  • What is massively parallel processing (MPP) ?

    - by HotTester
    Ever since Microsoft introduced sql-server version code-named "Madison" the massively parallel processing (MPP) has got into picture. What exactly is it and how does sql-server is going to benefit from it ? Further is massively parallel processing (MPP) related to parallel computing ? I read about Madison here and about parallel computing here. Thanks in advance.

  • Is using the Class instance as a Map key a best practice?

    - by Pangea
    I have read somewhere that using the class instances as below is not a good idea as they might cause memory leaks. Can someone tell me if if that is a valid statement? Or are they any problems using it this way? Map<Class<?>,String> classToInstance=new HashMap(); classToInstanceMap.put(String.class,"Test obj");

  • struts 2 - where should I set global application variables?

    - by Nicola Montecchio
    Hi I'm using struts 2 and I'd like to read some custom-defined parameters (global variables), preferably from web.xml or some custom ".properties" file (i.e. not hardcoded in the Java sources). This problem has been driving me mad for the past half hour as I can't google any reasonable solution. What is the best way to do this? I find it strange that it is so difficult ... all the best Nicola Montecchio

  • What is the best way to produce a tilde in LaTeX for a website?

    - by vgm64
    Following the previous questions on this topic, when you produce a website in LaTeX what is the best way to produce a url that contains a tilde? \verb produces the upper tilde that does not read well, and $\sim$ does not copy/pase well (adding a space when I do it). Solutions? It seems like this should be one of those things that has a very easy fix... if it doesn't, why not?

  • Immutability of structs

    - by Joan Venge
    I read it in lots of places including here that it's better to make structs as immutable. What's the reason behind this? I see lots of Microsoft-created structs that are mutable, like the ones in xna. Probably there are many more in the BCL. What are the pros and cons of not following this guideline?

  • Why does ASP.Net rewrite relative paths in runat=server anchor controls?

    - by Atomiton
    I have UserControls in a Controls folder in my solution: /Controls/TheControl.ascx If specify the following: <a runat="server" href="./?pg=1">link text</a> ASP.Net seems to want to rewrite the path to point to the absolute location. For example, If the control is on site.com/products/fish/cans.aspx the link href will be rewritten to read <a href="../../Controls/?pg=1 Why does Asp.Net rewrite these control paths, and is there an elegant way to fix it?

  • Where can I get material for learning EBNF?

    - by yesraaj
    Extended Backus–Naur Form: EBNF I'm very new to parsing concepts. Where can I get sufficiently easy to read and follow material for writing a grammar for the boost::spirit library, which uses a grammar similar to EBNF? Currently I am looking into EBNF from Wikipedia.

  • Can any framework project use Struts-taglib

    - by ChronoXIII
    I have read here that one disadvantage that some may find with using Spring MVC over Struts is that Struts has tags that output HTML code, while Spring has tags that don't generate HTML. My question is can't you just use the Struts tag-lib in a Spring MVC project (or any other kind of framework project), by dropping the right jar into the WEB-INF/lib folder? Any clarification is appreciated, thanks.

  • solr-tomcat package on ubuntu lucid

    - by pablo
    Hi I've installed solr-tomcat package on ubuntu lucid (10.04 latest). It automatically install java and tomcat and hopefully all other dependencies. I can access tomcat at http://localhost:8080 but not sure where to find the solr web admin http://localhost:8180 gives me nothing. Is this package known to work? I've read that on previous ubuntu releases the packages were broken. Do I need to configure anything after installing the package? Thanks

  • How to get size of bytes?

    - by k80sg
    How do I obtain the number of bytes before allocating the byte size of the array 'handsize' as shown below as the incoming ByteArray data are sent in 3 different sizes. Thanks. BufferedInputStream bais = new BufferedInputStream(requestSocket.getInputStream()); DataInputStream datainput = new DataInputStream(bais); //need to read the number of bytes here before proceeding. byte[] handsize = new byte[bytesize]; datainput.readFully(handsize);

  • Combine two content encodings sections in a single page

    - by AmirGl
    I developed a web application that allows users to modify existing web pages. When a user type a url of an existing web page, I read the content of this page and using an ajax call, i display the content in a div inside my web application. Now my problem is that often the content encoding of the existing web page is different than my web app (I use utf-8) Is there a way to load content using an ajax call with different content encoding than the one of the main page? Thanks, Amir

  • isnt as a c# keyword

    - by Mikael
    To check if an object is of a certain class one can write: if (item is Class) why isn't the opposite possible? if (item isnt Class) instead one would write if (!(item is Class) which isn't as easy to read as if "isnt" was a keyword just as "is" is. Is there something that makes it so that only "is" should be available or has "isnt" just been forgotten about?

  • Creating a byte array from a stream

    - by Bob
    What is the preffered method for creating a byte array from an input stream? Here is my current solution with .NET 3.5. Is it still a better idea to read and write chunks of the stream? Stream s; byte[] b; using (BinaryReader br = new BinaryReader(s)) { b = br.ReadBytes(s.Length); }

  • Is Programming Right for me?

    - by L1th1um
    I'm interested in programming, but it seems to me that I can't get into it. Every time I've tried to learn a language and stuff by looking through tutorials or books I'd never get past the part where I use the syntax to make something. And by interest, I mean that I read stack overflow a lot, coding horror, and stuff but the actual coding part is hard for me to get into. Did anybody start this way? How did you get past this block?

  • Passing variables to functions

    - by Faken
    A quick question: When i pass a variable to a function, dose the program make a copy of that variable to use in the function? If it dose and I knew that the function would only read the variable and never write to it, is it possible to pass a variable to the function without creating a copy of that variable or should I just leave that up to the compiler optimizations to do that automatically for me?

  • Stereo Matching - Dynamic Programming

    - by Varun
    Hi, I am supposed to implement Dynamic programming algorithm for Stereo matching problem. I have read 2 research papers but still haven't understood as to how do I write my own c++ program for that ! Is there any book or resource that's available somewhere that I can use to get an idea as to how to start coding actually ? Internet search only gives me journal and conference papers regarding Dynamic Programming but not how to implement the algorithm step by step. Thanks Varun
