  • Separating data from the UI code with Linq to SQL entities

    If it's important to keep data access 'away' from business and presentation layers, what alternatives or approaches can I take so that my LINQ to SQL entities can stay in the data access layer? So far I seem to be simply duplicating the classes produced by sqlmetal, and passing those object around instead simply to keep the two layers appart. For example, I have a table in my DB called Books. If a user is creating a new book via the UI, the Book class generated by sqlmetal seems like a perfect fit although I'm tightly coupling my design by doing so.

  • How to break out from nested doseqs

    Hi, I have a question regarding nested doseq loops. In the start function, once I find an answer I set the atom to true, so that the outer loop validation with :while fails. However it seems that it doesn't break it, and the loops keep on going. What's wrong with it? I am also quite confused with the usage of atoms, refs, agents (Why do they have different names for the update functions when then the mechanism is almost the same?) etc. Is it okay to use an atom in this situation as a flag?   • Reference variable to an object instantiated/initialized in another class in Java

    The reason I'm asking is because I'm getting NullPointerException. I now this is very easy but I'm pretty new programming and find this a bit confusing. So say I have initialized an object in a class and want to access that same object from another class. Like now for instance I'm working on a small Chess game, in my model Game class I have an instance of Board, an object. Board, in turn, has an array of Squares. Square[][]. Game has board, board has Square[][]. Now if I want to access the Square[][] through the object board (in Game) of type Board. Do I just declare a variable with the same name and type or do I have to initialize it again? Board board OR Board board = new Board(); Note, I have already initialized board in the class Game so if I do it again, won't they be two totally different Board objects?

  • Crash when checking BOF property of pessimistic locked ADO recordset

    Bit of an odd one for you: I've got two connections to a database, on one I've opened a _RecordsetPtr with a pessimistic lock. I can no longer send an UPDATE command on the other connection. I can send a SELECT command on the second connection and data is returned. If I use a read only lock then there are no problems however when I use a pessimistic lock on the second connection as well I can check the State == adStateOpen but the program hangs when I test the BOF property! If I don't test the BOF property and try to call moveNext on the second connection the software hangs If I do neither of these I am able to access the data via the second connection but trying to access the data from the first connection causes the software to hang. Any one seen anything similar as I'm a bit stuck? EDIT : it wasn't hanging, someone had put a 30 minute timeout on the connection and I wasn't waiting that long while testing...

    Does anyone know of a good online compiler/runtime (for C++, Java, Python, ObjC etc.) that I can access on the web? What I'm looking for is something that would allow me to type in a program in a web form and to run the program and see the results online. (Let's not get into the why for now. Suffice it to say for the moment that I don't always have access to a compiler/runtime, and firing up an IDE is just overkill for testing out some code snippets) I know of codepad.org -- but I'm looking for something better.

  • Change web service url for a suds client on runtime (keeping the wsdl)

    Hi. First of all, my question is similar to this one But it's a little bit different. What we have is a series of environments, with the same set of services. For some environments (the local ones) we can get access to the wsdl, and thus generating the suds client. For external environment, we cannot access the wsdl. But being the same, I was hoping I can change just the URL without regenerating the client. I've tried cloning the client, but it doesn't work.

  • Query useing two databases in SQL Report Builder

    I am new to SQL Server Report Builder 2.0 and I need to compare two different databases in one query. Basically I need to check if values from one database table exist in a different database's table. I know I can add multiple Datasources to my report and access each one with Subreports, but each DataSet that I create can only have one query in it. So how can I go about using one query to access two databases? Or if there is another way to somehow join my results from multiple DataSets, that would work too. Also, the databases are on the same server.

  • Java: Looking for hack to deal with Windows file paths in Linux

    Say you have a large legacy ColdFusion on top of Java on Windows application. File access is done both via java.io.File and by CFFILE (which in turn also uses java.io.File), but not centralised in any way into a single file access library. Further, say you have file paths both hard-coded in the code, and also in a database. In other words, assume the file paths themselves cannot change. They could be either local or remote Windows file paths: c:\temp\file.txt \\server\share\file.txt Is there a way to run this application on Linux with minimal code changes? I'm looking for creative solutions that do not involve touching the legacy code. Some ideas: Run it on WINE. This actually works, because WINE will translate the local paths, and has a samba client for the remote paths. Is there a way to override java.io.File to perform the file path translation with custom code? In this case, I would translate the remote paths to a mount point.

    I have created a table in ms access. I have set the data type of ID to Auto Number in MS-access. In java when I try to update a record. the netBeans IDE gives me the error of " data type missmatch in criteria expression". But when I changed the ID number that was not in the table already it works well. The code is below.   • Adding a Jar to ext and using it in Eclipse

    I am providing a client with a lab station image for a school program. There is a library that I'd like to directly add to the JRE so that students can use the library without needing to fiddle with adding the classpath. As this is a basic after school program, the goal is to just get students into programming with as little overhead additions as possible. At this point, I have the lib put into the jre/lib/ext and Eclipse is able to find it, however it will not allow access to any of the classes. I see it in the JRE System Library and the classes and packages are showing up there but when I go to use it, I am getting an "Access restriction" error. When I remove the JRE System Library then add it back in, everything works swimmingly. The library is accessible exactly as intended. Any ideas on how to resolve this?

    I have an ID that I need in the next jsp once the user click a button. I am trying to do the following: FirstJSP.jsp: function getSecond() { var frm = document.getElementById("frm"); frm.action = "**second.jsp?id=myId;"** frm.submit(); } ... form id="frm" ..... input type="button" value="Next" onclick="getSecond()"/ ...... This code takes me to my second page, but if I tried to access the id, it gives me an error since the id is null. I access the id in the second page by: final Long passedId = Long.parseLong(request.getParameter("id")); I think I am not passing the parameter correctly, but I don't know how to do it. Any ideas? One application in .asp and second application in java. we want to build interface for universal authentication, so that one can access the other application once signed into one application. Both applications are using SQL database, but one is written in .ASP hosted on Windows server while the other is in JAVA hosted on a Linux server. The applications are currently resided on two different servers. requirements: 1)The end user are most likely to access the applications through .ASP first, then reach the 2nd application more like "back office" management system. 2)he JAVA application currently works well with IE web browser, but not very smooth with other browsers such as Firefox. Would like to make the application to be more compatible with other browsers. Please help me, its very important to me. Thanks in advance!

  • How to order my objects in a C++ class correctly

    Hello, I have been coding regurlarly in C++ in the past months. I am getting used to it step by step... but there are things that confuse me about formatting. I know there is a lot of legacy from C that I supousee mixes with C++. This time I have doubts about how to order properly my members and functions within in a class. Also considering their access modifiers. How is the convention in this? Until know I am doing everything "public" and writing first constructor of class, then destructor, next members and finally functions. It this correct? What happens when introducing "private" and "protected" access modifiers or "virtual" functions? From the documents I have look in the Internet there is different ways of doing things. But my questions aims to get the knowledge from a community that develops in C++ that I want to blend into. ;-) Thanks a lot!!!

    It would seem there is precious little documentation on programming against a TFS 2010 instance. What bits I have found, have next to nothing in the case of documentation beyond barebones listing of client access classes and their members, most likely autogenerated from the code comments. As I'm interested in building a silverlight client against TFS, I will need access to server side API (ideally the silverlight app will talk to my server (mainly for work items) and my server will in turn talk to the TFS server for the goods. Where is the doumentation (if any) for this kind of TFS integration?

  • Web scrapping from a Google Chrome extension

    I've started to develop a Chrome extension to navigate and prform actions on a website. Until now the extension is able to receive a couple of parameters and check a set of radio-buttons, fill in a few inputs of a form and then submit it. What I want to do now is to repeat the process, but I'm stuck when the page is reloaded. And I don't know how can I do to make the script reacts to the finish of the request. The workflow I want to achieve is the following (is for automaticly copying a certain object): Popup side Enter the number of the Master object to copy Enter the base name of the copies (example Mod, so the I can iterate and add mod1, mod2, modn) Enter the number of copies Background side Select master Select standard options Fill in inputs Submit form Wait for the page to complete the request and continue to the next copy. (here I need help) The problem is on the repetition, the rest is taking care of. I assume that must be a way of dealing with requests. Any ideas? By the way I'm doing it all with the extension and tabs methods of google chrome plus javascript and jquery.

How can I access the file name extension so that output becomes : 'this is te... pdf' I could use substring method to access the last three characters but other file extensions could be 4 chars in length such as .aspx Is there a regular expression I can use so that "this is test truncation 1.pdf" becomes "this is te... pdf"

I would like to redefine 'Visit' in B, but B need to access the 'Visit' function of each A (and all subclass to). I have something like that, but it tell me that B cannot access the protected member of A!   • Do private classes need to be accessed by properties?

    I am using an instance of a private class as the state object supplied to a stream.BeginRead operation. (The class is private to my main stream reading/writing class.) public class MainClass { // ... private class ResponseState { public IResponse response; public Stream stream; public byte[] buffer = new byte[1024]; } } Access to the class is via the fields directly. Should I really be providing access to the class via properties in this case, even though it is only to be used for holding state? Interested to know what others do.

  • Is it possible to have a .NET route that maps to the same place as a directory?

    I'm building a CMS using WebForms on .NET 4.0 and have the following route that allows URLs like www.mysite.com/about to be mapped to the Page.aspx page, which looks up the dynamic content. routes.MapPageRoute("page", "{name}", "~/Page.aspx"); The problem is that I have a couple of folders in my project that are interfering with possible URLs. For example, I have a folder called "blog" where I store pages related to handling blog functionality, but if someone creates a page for their site called "blog" then navigating to www.mysite.com/blog gets the following error: 403 - Forbidden: Access is denied. You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied. Other similar URLs route correctly, but I think because .NET is identifying /blog as a physical location on the server it is denying directory access. Is there a way to tell IIS / .NET to only look for physical files instead of files and folders?
