• Unity3D Android - Move your character to a specific x position

  I was asked a while ago to setup a server such that only authenticated users can access files. It was like a test server for clients to view WIP sites. More recently, I want to do something similar for some of my files. Tho they are not very confidential, I wish that I am the only one viewing it. I thought of doing the same, Create a robots.txt User-agent: * Disallow: / Setup some password protection, .htpasswd seems like a very ugly way to do it. It will prompt me even when I log into FTP. I wonder if software method like password protected posts in Wordpress will do the trick of locking out the public and hiding content from Search Engines? Or some self made PHP script will do the trick?

  guys! I encountered an installation problem when I try to make a dual boot computer of win8 and ubuntu 13.10. I follow this guide:http://overtond.blogspot.tw/2013/10/ubuntu-on-gigabyte-p34g-ultrablade.html because the same of the laptop GIGABYTE p34g. I disabled the secure boot(as well as 3D graphic acceleration and Intel rapid start as the above script advised) and start installing. However, installation got stuck like this(http://ppt.cc/iMYQ). I have been bothered by this for a week. Any advice would help, thanks!

  Recently, I read that Facebook ads are moving towards retargeting and got interested deeper into subject. Essentially, retargeting is technique advertisers use that tracks purchase intent by putting cookies into your browser and when you visit another website within ad network you will see ad for item you "wanted to buy". In order this to for, both publisher and advertiser need to work together. Publisher needs add couple of lines of javascript and publisher need to be able to read this info across sites. In most cases, javascript inserts iframe from adnetwork domain. Iframe script sets cookies for both host domain and remote adnetwork domain. However, Same Origin policy do not let iframes read/set content from parent domain. Is there something I'm missing here? Can someone explain how this technique actually works?

• How can I simulate a rigid body bounced from a wall in 3D world?

  How can I simulate a rigid sword bounced from a wall and hit the ground (like in physical world)? I want to use this for a simple animation. I can detect the figure and the size of the sword (maybe needed in doing bounce). Rotation can be controlled by quaternions/matrix/euler angles. It should turn the head and do rotations and fly to the ground. How can I simulate this physical process? Maybe what I need is an equation and some parameters? I need these data, and would combine them into my movie file, I use Mathematica to do the thing that generate the movie file(If I have the data, I can also export it into a 3DSMax script for example).

• dpkg returns error 10 when processing package php5-common

  I'm having trouble installing php in 13.04. Seems like the package manager can't (re)configure the php package. I already tried purging every php* package, removing the cache files in /var/cache/aptbut and other solutions I've found but nothing seems to work. Here's the error output: $ sudo dpkg --configure -a Setting up php5-common (5.4.9-4ubuntu2.3) ... dpkg: error processing php5-common (--configure): subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 10 Errors were encountered while processing: php5-common sudo apt-get install -f sudo apt-get install php5-common php5 they all return the same error.   I'm developing a commercial cms. I'm going to sell this cms. I use jQuery, also I use date and time picker jQuery plugin in my cms, I can say this is just a 1% of my big script, I don't want sell my whole program as GPL because of these two small integrations (jQuery and DateTime picker). Please ask on these questions: I'm worry about license issue. What is the best way to sell my product(licensing type)? Is there any way to provide some partial licenses? I mean just add small notification in my license that the jQuery and The DateTime picker is still in GPL, but other part of this CMS has commercial license? If there isn't any way to sell commercial product as close source with GPL small parts, what is the most strong license for selling my product to keep it safe? Please sorry for my English

• Mounting ddrescue image after recovery (in over my head)

  I'm having problems mounting the recovery image.   I made a clean install on my Sony Vaio laptop, of Ubuntu 11.10 and when the installation was ready, it prompted to remove the usb I was installing the distro from, and press enter to reboot. After this reboot the first thing I got was the following error: error: couldn't read file error: you need to load the kernel first Press any key to continue.. After that it throws me back to the Grub select screen: Ubuntu, with linux 3.0.0-14-generic-pae recovery mode previous linux versions (none since I made a clean install) memory test If i choose the first option it shows only a black screen and never loads anything. If i reboot the same thing happens. Could I repair this using boot-repair? Is there any other way?   I started working on an item system for my (first) game, and I'm having a problem conceptualizing how it should work. Since Items can produce a bunch of potentially non-standard actions (revive a character vs increasing some stat) or have use restrictions (can only revive if a character is dead). For obvious reasons, I don't want to create a new Item class for every item type. What is the best way to handle this? Should I make a handful of item types (field modifiers, status modifiers, )? Is it normal to script item usage? Could (should?) this be combined with the above mentioned solution (have a couple of different sub item types, make special case items usage scripted)? Thanks.

• Conky dropping shadow when invoked at startup

  I read this thread but it doesn't really address my issue. The problem that I have is that whenever I log in, conky starts up, as set up in Startup Applications, but the instance it runs is dropping shadow and is above every other window, showing the wallpaper beneath it. This can be easily fixed by relaunching conky, but that defeats the purpose of having it start up at login. Also, running conky at any point manually after logging does not cause this. Any suggestions? I rewrote the script and played about with Compiz, but it still keeps happening.

  UTF8? UTF16? Does the string in PhP also keep tracks the encoding used for that string? A good answer would give me a sample of Let's look at this script for example. Say I do $original = "??????????????"; What actually happen? Obviously I think $original will not contain just 7 characters. Those glyps must each be represented by several bytes there. Then I do $converted= mb_convert_encoding ($original , "UTF-8") What will happen to $converted? How will $converted be different than $original? Will it be just the exact same byte sequence with $original but with different encoding? Or what?

  I downloaded Indicator-Char and unzipped the files. I added the characters there I wanted perfectly. When I run the python script it loads the daemon and I can see this characters. But the problem is that when I click on them, not copied anything to the clipboard. • How can I customize an FPS game?

  I want to create a customized (modded) fps game where I can change the look and feel of the game to match my intended theme. Some of the things I would like to do: Create a custom map (terrain). Add custom sound effects Change AI (For example, running away instead of actively looking for combat). Change menus and add some storyboard. Script events in game (like a countdown until game over) Change the models of the NPC's. What options do I have? Is there any platform/game/engine/whatever that allows one to do the things above in a reasonable way? I work as a programmer so I'm not afraid of coding some part of the project, but to save time it would be nice to work in some high-level way (like scripting or configuration files).

  Will changing links to remove query string parameters that are no longer used have any negative impact on search engine rankings? Say I have a page about.php on my site, and all of my links to this page are of the form http://www.example.com/about.php?foo=bar and I've made some changes to the script such that the parameter foo is no longer used. I would like to remove the unused parameter from the links so the URL will look cleaner, but I am concerned that this could cause problems with SEO. Is it safe to remove ?foo=bar from my links?

• Queuing rpc calls

  i'm designing a system wich listen to json rpc calls from clients, piles it up inside a list, and if it gets full it should store them in a DB and keep recieving calls. My original plan is to listen to the rpc calls from Perl with the json-rpc and put them in the array. The clients do some long polling in another server to get responses as they appear. What is this blocking/noblocking thing? Should i do a script for node.js to listen to the calls? What do you think is a good practice in this case? The objective is to listen as much calls as possible.

Essentially, there is a global header, and a global footer, and in between is a white expandable div. We'd like our store to fit between the header and footer (and preferably be 960px wide). Do you know of any store platform built to live between the header/footer for situations like this? We really want a full store, not just paypal buy buttons. We'd like it to have a shop backend (CMS-like) with full tracking, etc. Can be paid or unpaid, and preferably hosted by us, but either might be applicable (if iframe or alternative works securely?). This would need to feature over 100 items. If authorize.net is supported that is a plus.

• Why does the Git community seem to ignore side-by-side diffs

  I used to use Windows, SVN, Tortoise SVN, and Beyond Compare. It was a great combination for doing code reviews. Now I use OSX and Git. I've managed to kludge together a bash script along with Gitx and DiffMerge to come up with a barely acceptable solution. I've muddled along with this setup, and similar ones, for over a year. I've also tried using the Github diff viewer and the Gitx diff viewer, so it's not like I've not given them a chance. There are so many smart people doing great stuff with Git. Why not the side-by-side diff with the option of seeing the entire file? With people who have used both, I've never heard of anyone that likes the single +/- view better, at least for more than a quick check.
