• how can I cache a partial retrieved through link_to_remote in rails?

  I use link_to_remote to pull the dynamic contents of a partial onto the page. It's basically a long row from a database of "todo's" for the day. So as the person goes through and checks them off, I want to show the updated list with a line through those that are finished. Currently, I end up needing to click on the link_to_remote again after an item is ticked off, but would like it to redirect back to the "cached" page of to-do's but with the one item lined through. How do I do that?   This is for an upcoming project. I have two tables - first one keeps tracks of photos, and the second one keeps track of the photo's rank Photos: +-------+-----------+------------------+ | id | photo | current_rank | +-------+-----------+------------------+ | 1 | apple | 5 | | 2 | orange | 9 | +-------+-----------+------------------+ The photo rank keeps changing on a regular basis and this is the table that tracks it: Ranks: +-------+-----------+----------+-------------+ | id | photo_id | ranks | timestamp | +-------+-----------+----------+-------------+ | 1 | 1 | 8 | * | | 2 | 2 | 2 | * | | 3 | 1 | 3 | * | | 4 | 1 | 7 | * | | 5 | 1 | 5 | * | | 6 | 2 | 9 | * | +-------+-----------+----------+-------------+ * = current timestamp Every rank is tracked for reporting/analysis purpose. I talked to someone who has experience in this field and he told me that storing ranks like above is the way to go. But I'm not so sure yet. The problem here is data redundancy. There are going to be tens of thousands of photos. The photo rank changes on a hourly basis (many time within minutes) for recent photos but less frequently for older photos. At this rate the table will have millions of records within months. And since I do not have experience in working with large databases, this makes me a little nervous. I also checked the return value and it's positive therefore i know it did write to the file, however when i open the file it's empty. I would be happy for some help.   Following up on this question about sharing objects between classes, I now need to figure out how to share the objects across various functions in a class. First, the setup: In my App Delegate I load menu information from JSON into a NSMutableDictionary and message that through to a view controller using a function called initWithData. I need to use this dictionary to populate a new Table View, which has methods like numberOfRowsInSection and cellForRowAtIndexPath. I'd like to use the dictionary count to return numberOfRowsInSection and info in the dictionary to populate each cell. Unfortunately, my code never gets beyond the init stage and the dictionary is empty so numberOfRowsInSection always returns zero. I thought I could create a class property, synthesize it and then set it. But it doesn't seem to want to retain the property's value. What am I doing wrong here? • Why do I get 'Connection refused - connect(2)' for some models?

  I have a rails application running for the past 90 days that suddenly stopped working. Debugging the problem I found that I can read from the DB but not write to it. At least for certain models. There is one model that I can save whereas all others return Connection refused - connect(2) when I attempt to save them. They all used to work fine last month. I have no idea how to determine what the problem may be. Unfortunately I do not have access to the actual server remotely right now so I am limited in my debugging ability. I was able to get some non-tech people to run simple commands though that may help identify my problem. I will also be getting access tomorrow at some point. 1 Check from the console ./script/console >> a = Post.last.clone => #<Post id: nil, title: "test"... >> a.ex_id = 7 >> a.save Connection refused - connect(2) ... ... >> b = Story.last.console => #<Story id: nil, title: "test"... >> a.ex_id = 7 >> a.save => true I am not sure why this works for story and not post. This is consistent over many tests. 2 Check from mysql ./script/dbconsole -p mysql> INSERT INTO Posts (`title`,`body`, `ex_id`) SELECT `title`, `body`, 7 FROM Posts WHERE ID = 1; Query OK, 1 row affected (0.01 sec) Records: 1 Duplicates: 0 Warnings: 0 And as you can see I am able to write to the table with the same credientials that Rails uses? Does anyone know why I get connection refused in the console?

  I am working on a simple gaming ladder script. I am having little to no luck trying to find an effective way to reset my ladder information while leaving my table id and name fields intact. I am trying to get create a loop to update my entire table, similar to the way I draw my table. Effective reseting my ladder for a new season to begin. The only way I have been able to complete this is to find out how many rows there are and run a for loop. It seems vary inefficient. Was hoping I could get some better insight as to how to go about this.

  I am creating an ajax uploader with mootools. When I remove the ajax and simply upload the form I get $_FILES with the file data present. But when I use the ajax version, the $_FILES super global is empty. Every other part of the form is present. It acts as if it does not send the image at all but only in the ajax version. • retrieving and restoring textview information from sharedpreferences

  I have an activity that allows user to enter notes and store them in dynamically created textviews. However, when the use leaves the activity and returns, all the created textviews disappear. How can i store store or retrieve all of these created textviews, whenever i return to the activity? Also, i think that my sharedpreferences will be overwriting each time a new textview is added.   I am trying to make a div that contains other floating divs to adjust its width such that adding more floating divs (dynamically using jQuery) will only expand the div in its width, not allowing the floating divs to create a new line. Therefore, I want to fix this issue such that each div with class grid-row only expands in width, and so I will be able to scroll using the overflow: scroll for the parent grid div. I have searched a lot for answers, and it seems that it is a famous issue. However, non of the answer solved my problem.   I'm trying to convert a product table that contains all the detail of the product into separate tables in SQL. I've got everything done except for duplicated descriptor details. The problem I am having all the products have size/color/style/other that many other products contain. I want to only have one size or color descriptor for all the items and reuse the "ID" for all the product which I believe is a Parent key to the Product ID which is a ...Foreign Key. The only problem is that every descriptor would have multiple Foreign Keys assigned to it. So I was thinking on the fly just have it skip figuring out a Foreign Parent key for each descriptor and just check to see if that descriptor exist and if it does use its Key for the descriptor.
