  • Json, Timer, Ajax, What is faster (for shared cronometer) ?

    - by Felipe
Hi everybody, I'm developing an application using ASP.Net. For first the idea: "My WebApp needs an cronometer to be shared by users and all users will se the same value in cronometer. When a user clicks on a button, the cronometer needs to be restarted and all users will need to see that!" All right, now I'd like to know what's the best choose to improve more performace an make sure that all users will see the same value in cronometer ? Need I use JSon (with jquery in client side), Timer with UpdatePanel of Ajax Extensions, pure Ajax (with JQuery) or any idea to suggested ? Any suggestion for how to shared a cronometer for all users in C# (put information in Cache or database) ? Thanks all Cheers

  • Why does isNaN(123.) return false?

    - by vivekraman
Hi, Why does the Javascript function call isNaN(123.) return false? Is this a universally acceptable number or will it cause errors downstream? I'm validating whether a value is a valid decimal using isNaN along with split. Are there cross-browser issues with isNaN? Should I use a bespoke implementation? Thanks.

  • How can I define a one-time event so that new handlers fire (once) even after the event has already occurred?

    - by harpo
You know how this $(function() { ... }); will fire whether or not the "document ready" event has already occurred? I want to define an event like that. That event is a special case in jQuery. I'm wondering if a custom event can behave in the same way, using only the standard event mechanisms. Ideally, I'd like to be able to define handlers in the "normal" way: $(document).on("init.mything", function() { ... }); This works now if the above runs before init.mything is triggered. But if it doesn't, then the handler never runs. What makes this tricky is, I don't want to assume anything except that jQuery has loaded. Any ideas?

  • Rails: validate presence of parent_id in has_many association

    - by deb
I have a projects resource that has many tasks. I want to ensure that every task has a project_id by adding validates_presence_of :project_id to the tasks model. However, when creating a new project with tasks, the project_id won't be available until the record saves, therefore I can't use validates_presence_of :project_id. So my question is, how do I validate presence of project_id in the task model? I want to ensure every task has a parent. ... class Project < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :tasks, :dependent => :destroy accepts_nested_attributes_for :tasks, :allow_destroy => true ... class Task < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :project validates_presence_of :project_id

  • Modal dialog not working in chrome/explorer yet works in firefox

    - by Mike Z
I have the following modal dialog click function $("#foo").click(function(){$("#bar").dialog({ width: 400, modal: true, resizable: false, buttons:{ "Save": function(){ $.post('remote_foo.php', $('#waka').serialize(), function(data){ $('#list').html(data);}) $(this).dialog("close"); $('.dial').val(''); $('.url').val('http://'); }, "cancel": function(){ $(this).dialog("close"); } }//end of buttons }).('open');//end of jquery dialog })// end of click function It works fine in firefox but to be honest i dont even think my click function is set up right. 1)Is this the proper way to open the dialog with a click. 2) is there a specific reason that this would not work in chrome/internet explorer? (This is the jquery ui)

  • Fancybox2 Inline Content Gallery

    - by beefchimi
    I am trying to create a gallery of inline content with Fancybox 2, and am failing miserably. I checked out some other resources online and they seem to indicate doing this relatively easily, yet, I cannot seem to get it to work. Here is my fiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/beefchimi/jtxHd/2/ Now, I feel like the fiddle is not loading the resources, so thats a problem. But even with the resources this does not work, I get the fancybox error. Resources: http://fancyapps.com/fancybox/source/jquery.fancybox.pack.js?v=2.1.3 http://fancyapps.com/fancybox/source/jquery.fancybox.css?v=2.1.3 Any help would be greatly appreciated. EDIT: So I can't submit my question without including some code, because linking to jsfiddle isn't okay, so, here is my fancybox initialization, which you will also find in the jsfiddle: $(document).ready(function() { $('a.inlinepopup').fancybox({ 'width' : '75%', 'height' : '75%', 'autoScale' : false, 'type' : 'iframe' }); });

  • Are there actually lag times to remove an email address from "the system"? [closed]

    - by Alex Gosselin
For example, you send an unsubscribe message to a legitimate company or a spam, they reply that they will remove you and it may take up to 72 hours to take effect. I find it hard to believe anything that simple could take more than 3/4 of a second to take effect system wide. Another example would be when you call the visa activation line, there is a "delay" of several minutes while they try to sell you some kind of insurance. Usually just as you get the point across that you don't want it they will tell you your card has been activated and let you go. Are these delays real?

  • JavaScript: filter() for Objects

    - by AgileMeansDoAsLittleAsPossible
ECMAScript 5 has the filter() prototype for Array types, but not Object types, if I understand correctly. How would I implement a filter() for Objects in JavaScript? Let's say I have this object: var foo = { bar: "Yes" }; And I want to write a filter() that works on Objects: Object.prototype.filter = function(predicate) { var result = {}; for (key in this) { if (this.hasOwnProperty(key) && !predicate(this[key])) { result[key] = this[key]; } } return result; }; This works when I use it in jsfiddle (http://jsfiddle.net/MPUnL/4/), but when I add it to my site that uses jQuery 1.5 and jQuery UI 1.8.9, I get JavaScript errors in FireBug.

  • Button stops working after loading div via ajax

    - by asovgir
I have two divs on the page: main div and secondary, which loads a separate html page using ajax. All the links within the main div trigerred by a click event continue to work correctly and reference the appropriate content, but none of the jquery outside this div works (such as the navigation). Here's my jQuery: var url; $('.main a').live('click',function() { url = $(this).attr('href'); $('.secondary').load(url); return false; }); Can anyone help me why this isn't working? I think I am supposed to trigger a callback event but I am not sure how to do so. I know this question has been asked multiple times already (usually suggesting to use .live() or .on()), but none of those solutions seemed to work for me.

  • Setting height of a DIV to correspond with location of anchor inside said DIV

    - by filip
Core issue : http://jsfiddle.net/pipip/P46Xg/ I have a div container with a few paragraphs of text, and inside one of these paragraphs is the following anchor <a id="stop" /> The container is set to overflow:hidden Is it possible with javascript / JQuery to set the height of the container so that the bottom of the container stops exactly at or below the anchor? Added Depth & Background : http://jsfiddle.net/pipip/yj9dB/ This would be used for a modified JQuery Slider. Where someone using a CMS could type [readmore] anywhere into the Content field, which would be replaced by the above anchor via PHP. This way they would be easily able to control where the Read More break appears within the container. In the associated example I am hard-coding the height to 75px, although what I want is for the height to be dependent on the location of the anchor id="stop" in the text. Thanks. If this is an awful way to go about it, I'm all ears!

  • Detecting when Javascript is performing poorly

    - by what-the-crap
I'm working on a webapp in jquery that, on older machines or machines without much resources, may perform poorly. To get around this I'd like to make a degraded version that disables some of the features, particularly those that rely on large images. How can I tell if my app is running poorly on the user's computer in jquery or javascript in general? I just need a way to call a function that will degrade the app. (especially when the user may run low on system memory) The only way I can think of is for manual user intervention, but the option would add clutter for users that don't need it and users that do need it may not notice it. Thanks!

  • Create div tag template and reuse

    - by user1683645
Is it possible to create a template e.g with lots of other elements inside it with proper attribute "tagging" and reuse it with jquery? For instance when you want to display user submitted comments without refreshing the page. The reason I ask this is because the code between the div tags are rather long. So using for instance prepend() would be to long to rewrite. Whats the best approach for larger manipulations? Create a separate html? Im pretty new to manipulation, but since I have a programming background i would expect that there is an efficient way to reuse already existing HTML instead of redefining it in jquery.

  • How to search and validate plain texts (where it starts with http AND ends with .aspx) to be a valid hyperlink in a page body content?

    - by syntaxcode
My web page content is populated by a plain text that is retrieved from a CDATA format - plain text data. This is the site http://checksite.apsx to get information. For more information, visit http://moresites.com/FAQ/index.html or search the site. Now, my goal is to convert this plain text to a valid hyperlinks. I've used a javascript code that does the conversion - /((http|https|ftp):\/\/[^ ]+)/g; , but sometimes if there are multiple words, it captures an invalid URL. My question: Is there a way to strictly capture any string that starts with "http" AND ends with ".html" or "aspx" will be converted into a valid hyperlink? it should look like this - This is the site http://checksite.apsx to get information. • Cant handle it (jQuery hanlder understanding needed)

    - by chainwork
I'm embarrassed to even ask BUT could someone help me understand what a "handler" is. I am new to jQuery and the API constantly has references similar to the following: toggle( handler(eventObject), handler(eventObject), [ handler(eventObject) ] ) I scratch my head and say to myself "what the hell is a handler". Then I check my 2 jquery books and don't really see anything specific there. I get what an event handler does, it handles an event. But the word handler in the above context confuses me including "eventObject". I tried to google it but could not really find a really clear definition of what exactly a handler is as it relates to jquery. Thanks for your help =]
