  • Passing unknown amounts of variables using through a string string and eval and multiple functions a

    - by user300797
    I'm not sure how best to describe this problem... In short, I want to use object literal to allow me to pass a random amount of variables in any order to a function. Whilst this is not big deal in theory, in my code, this object literal is passed to a second function call on_change. on_change works comparing an element inner HTML to a string. if it is the same, it sets a time out of to call the function again (this is sort of/almost recursive, but the function dose actually get to end before it is called again). if the elements inner HTML is different from the string, then the third parameter is executed. this will either be a function or a string. either way it will execute. I have tested this function plenty and used it for a while now. how ever, it cannot seem to get the object literal to flow through the function calls... var params = { xpos:'false'}; on_change('window_3_cont_buffer','',' if(Window_manager.windows[3].window_cont_buffer.getElementsByTagName(\'content\')[0].getElementsByTagName(\'p\')[0].innerHTML == \'ERROR\'){ alert(Window_manager.windows[3].window_cont_buffer.getElementsByTagName(\'content\')[0].getElementsByTagName(\'p\')[1].innerHTML); return false; } else { Window_manager.windows[3].load_xml(\'location/view.php?location_ID=3\', \'\', ' + params + ' ); } '); I call this as part of the form submission. after this line, I then call a function to load some content via ajax, which works fine and will trigger the code from the on_change function. I have tested load_xml function it is able to call alert(param.xpos) and get the correct response. I can even added in a check for being undefined so that rest of the times I cam load_xml I don't get swamped with alerts. The load_xml function first set up the on_change function, then calls the function to load the content to a hidden div. Once the AJAX request has updated that DIV, the on_change function should now call the parse_xml function. This pulls out the information from the xml file. How ever... The idea of this object literal param is that it can tell this parse_xml function to ignore certain things. on_change("window_" + this.id + "_cont_buffer", "", "Window_manager.windows[" + this.id + "].parse_xml('" + param + "')"); this is part of load_xml. it works perfectly fine, even with the param bit in there. except, parse_xml dose not seem to be able to use that parameter. I have been able to get it to a point where parse_xml can alert(param) and give [object object] which I would of thought meant that the object litteral had been passed through, but when I try and call alert(param.xpos) I get undefined. I know this is a pig of a problem, and I could get around it by just having the function take a zillion boolean parameters, but its just not practical or elegant. I'm sure you will need to ask me plenty more questions before I can solve this. I will post more complete code, I just cut it down to what is actually going on. Thanks

  • Preset value of HTML Forms - iPhone SDK

    - by laura
    Hi. I'm trying to preset the value of a dropdown menu and the value of a text box in an HTML form. As soon as the user taps the button in my iPhone app, it enters the webview and I was hoping to preset one of the dropdown menus and text field. How do I go about this? I want to set the dropdown to value "4" and the text field to "Giro Apps" Here's the relevant HTML form code: <select id="advSrcId" class="list" onchange="showOther($('advSrcId').options[$('advSrcId').selectedIndex].value)" name="advSrcId"> <option selected="" value="">Select</option> <option value="1">Google</option> <option value="2">Facebook</option> <option value="3">Friend Referral</option> <option value="4">Other</option> </select> <div id="otherAdvsrc" style=""> <p> Please give details here: <br/> <input class="text" type="text" value="" name="advsrc"/> <br/> </p> </div> TIA!

  • Iterating changes using jQuery?

    - by HipHop-opatamus
    In the HTML below, I would like to copy the "submittedby" beside "message", within the H2 tag: <div class="comment"> <H2 class="threadtitle">Message 1</h2> <span class="submittedby">James</a> </div> <div class="comment"> <H2 class="threadtitle">Message 2</h2> <span class="submittedby">Bill</a> </div> <div class="comment"> <H2 class="threadtitle">Message 3</h2> <div class="submittedby">Phil</a> </div> My current jQuery code is as follows: $(document).ready(function() { $('.submittedby').copy().appendTo('.threadtitle'); }); The problem is this copies EVERY "submittedby" to EVERY "threadtitle". How do I code it so it only copies the "submittedby" from within the same "comment" div? Thanks!

  • jquery .hide() bug in safari

    - by phil crowe
    ive been having issues with this hide bug thats only affecting safari. This is a simple vertical scroller that hides the first element in the list then shows the last. and works in everything apart from safari. the problem seems to be that the divs im working with here share the same class but have unique ids like #mycollectioncomment1, #mycollectioncomment2, #mycollectioncomment3 etc... however hiding just one of these divs hides all the other divs that share the same class. Ive tried .fadeOut(0) that everyone suggests as the work around but it just doesnt work here. var commentListCount = $(".myCollectionLatest").size(); var mycollclickCount = 0; var showingcomments = 5; if ($('.licomment').size() > 0) { showingcomments = 4; //alert("this"); } if ($('.lookInSeasonList').size() > 0) { showingcomments = 5; } if ($('.lookDescMiddle').size() > 0) { showingcomments = 8; } if ($('.MyCollectionsCollectionHolder').size() > 0) { showingcomments = 5; } // if (commentListCount > 5) { $(".myCollectionLatest").hide(); for (i = 0; i < showingcomments; i++) { $("#mycollectioncomment" + i).show(); } $('#mycolldown').click(function () { var element1, element2; if (showingcomments <= commentListCount) { mycollclickCount++; element1 = $("#mycollectioncomment" + mycollclickCount.toString()); element2 = $("#mycollectioncomment" + showingcomments.toString()); element1.closest('.licomment').hide(); element2.closest('.licomment').show(); showingcomments++; } }); $('#mycollup').click(function () { if (showingcomments <= 5) { } else { $("#mycollectioncomment" + mycollclickCount.toString()).show();   • Find window previously opened by window.open

    - by spender
    We've got the following situation, running from a single domain: Page A uses window.open() to open a named window (a popup player). window.open() gives page A a reference to the window. User now reloads page A. The reference to the named window is lost. Using window.open() to "find" the window has the unfortunate side effect of reloading it (undesirable). Is there any other way to get a reference to this window?

  • Call function under object from string

    - by sam
    I have a script which creates a drag-and-drop uploader on the page from a div. My DIV will look something like <div class="well uploader" data-type="image" data-callback="product.addimage" data-multi="1"></div> Then I'll have a function something like var product = new function(){ /* Some random stuff */ this.addimage = function(image){ alert('W00T! I HAZ AN IMAGE!'); } /* More random stuff */ } When the upload is complete, I need to call the function in data-callback (In this example, product.addimage). I know with global functions you can just do window[callback]() but I'm not sure the best way to do this with functions under objects. My first thought was to do something like* var obj = window; var parts = callback.split('.'); for(part in parts){ obj = obj[parts[part]]; } obj(); but that seems a bit dirty, is there a better way without using eval because eval is evil? I haven't tested this so I have no idea if it will work

  • Custom Geo Tagging. Name to position and position to name

    - by Toni Michel Caubet
    Hello there i am implementing a custom geo tagging system, ok Array where i store the cordenades of each place /* ******Opciones del etiquetado del mapa*** */ var TagSpeed = 800; //el tiempo de la animacion var animate = true; //false = fadeIn / true = animate var paises = { "isora": { leftX: '275', topY: '60', name: 'Gran Melia Palacio de Isora' }, "pepe": { leftX: '275', topY: '60', name: 'Gran Melia de Don Pepe' }, "australia": { leftX: '565', topY: '220', name: 'Gran Melia Uluru' }, "otro": { // ejemplo leftX: '565', // cordenada x topY: '220', // cordenada y name: 'soy otro' // nombre a mostrar } /* <==> <span class="otro mPointer">isora</span> */ } /**/ this is how i check with js function escucharMapa(){ /*fOpciones*/ $('.mPointer').bind('mouseover',function(){ var clase = $(this).attr('class').replace(" mPointer", ""); var left_ = paises[clase].leftX; var top_ = paises[clase].topY; var name_ = paises[clase].name; $('.arrow .text').html(name_); /*Esta linea centra la etiqueta del hotel con la flecha. Si cambia el tamaño de fuente o la typo, habrá que cambiar el 3.3*/ $('.arrow .text').css({'marginLeft':'-'+$('.arrow .text').html().length*3.3+'px'}); $('.arrow').css({top:'-60px',left:left_+'px'}); if(animate) $('.arrow').show().stop().animate({'top':top_},TagSpeed,'easeInOutBack'); else $('.arrow').css({'top':top_+'px'}).fadeIn(500); }); $('.mPointer').bind('mouseleave',function(){ if(animate) $('.arrow').stop().animate({'top':'0px'},100,function(){ $('.arrow').hide() }); else $('.arrow').hide(); }); } /*Inicio gestion geoEtiquetado*/ $(document).ready(function(){ escucharMapa(); }); HTML <div style="float:left;height:500px;"> <div class="map"> <div class="arrow"> <div class="text"></div> <img src="img/flecha.png"/> </div> <!--mapa--> <img src="http://www.freepik.es/foto-gratis/mapa-del-mundo_17-903095345.jpg" id="img1"/> <br/> <br/> <span class="isora mPointer">isora</span> <span class="pepe mPointer">Pepe</span> <span class="australia mPointer">Australia</span> </div> </div> OK so you have vew items and when you hover one, it gets the classname, it checks the cordinades in the object and displays a cursor in those cordinades of the image, right? ok so how can i do the opposite? lets say if user hovers +-30px error margin (top and left) an area in the map the item is highlighted??? i was considering -on map image mouse over - get the offset of the mouse - if is in the margin error area -show else -no show But that does not look really efficient as long as it would have to caculate each pixel movement, no?

  • Document.ready() failing on popup

    - by Seth Duncan
    I am using ASP.Net and jQuery/jQuery UI and I am trying to use the datepicker control. It works fine on every page, except when I have to use the popup (to add new data into the database and then i refresh the current page to reflect the new data being entered). It seems that document.ready() is failing when I use the popup. I can invoke the datepicker control manually with adding a click event to fire off the showcalendar function, however I want to try and make it work. Does anyone have any ideas of why a popup would fail document.ready() ? Thanks!

  • setInterval works only the first time

    - by Neil
    Hi, I am trying to use setTimer to animate a slide show using straightforward jQuery. I provide the user with a button (in the form of a "DIV" with a button background image) that he clicks to start the show and which then turns into a pause button. The slides are supposed to change every 3 seconds. Here is the relevant code: playLink = $('<div id="lbPlayLink" />').click(function(){ $(playLink).hide(); $(pauseLink).show(); slideInterval = setInterval(function(){next()}, 3000) })[0]; pauseLink = $('<div id="lbPauseLink" />').click(function(){ $(playLink).show(); $(pauseLink).hide(); clearInterval(slideInterval); }).hide()[0]; The next() function call does the work of replacing the slide with the next one. I have checked out this function and it works perfectly if I call it directly (synchronously), however, when it gets called asonchronously by the "setInterval", it works fine the first time (3 seconds after I click on the button), but is never called again, even though it should be called 3 seconds later. I know it's never called as I put an "alert" call at the beginning and end of the function. If I replace the "next()" call in the "setInterval" by "alert('test')" then I can see the setInterval is doing what it is supposed to. I can't for the life of me see why "alert()" is OK but "next()" isn't, unless it has something to do with "scope" of functions, but in that case why does it work the first time? I've tried debugging the code with firebug, but it can't really help with timeout functions like this. Neither Firefox nor IE8 show any error messages. I've looked through the various posts here and elsewhere on setInterval, but can't see anything relevant that I haven't tried already. I've been experimenting now for about 3 hours and it's doing my head in. Can anyone suggest what I can try next? Thanks in advance Neil

  • jQuery, unable to store data returned by $.get function.

    - by Deepak Prasanna
    I am trying to turn div#sidebar into a sidebar in my app. My code looks like the one below. $('#sidebar').userProfile(); jQuery.fn.userProfile = function() { $.get('/users/profile', function(data){ $(this).html(data); }); }; It didnt work because, I found the this (inside the $.get function) here contexts to the get request and not $('#sidebar'). Then I tried something like below. $('#sidebar').userProfile(); #This doesnot work jQuery.fn.userProfile = function() { var side_bar = null; $.get('/users/profile', function(data){ side_bar = data; }); $(this).html(side_bar); console.log(side_bar); }; This doesnt work either. In firebug console I see Null which I am setting on top when I am declaring the variable.Atlast I made it work by changing my code to something like below by hardcoding the selector. #This works, but I cannot turn any element to a sidebar which is sick. jQuery.fn.userProfile = function() { $.get('/users/profile', function(data){ $('#sidebar').html(data); }); }; But this is not I wanted because I wanted to turn any element to a sidebar. Where am I goin wrong or which is the correct way of doing it?

  • setTimeout(fun) with a single argument

    - by Elazar Leibovich
    The HTML5 specifications states that setTimeout can be run without the additional "timeout" argument which is supposed to say after how many milliseconds will the function "handler" be scheduled. handle = window . setTimeout( handler [, timeout [, arguments ] ] ) Schedules a timeout to run handler after timeout milliseconds. Any arguments are passed straight through to the handler. However, I failed to find anywhere which explains what happens when no "timeout" time period is set. An example usage is, the animation implementation int the Raphael library. animationElements[length] && win.setTimeout(animation);

  • remove text in parentheses and the parentheses using .filter() or .slice()

    - by liz
    i have a table with code like this: <tr> <th scope="row">5-17</th> <td>23.6 (22.0-24.0)</td> <td>18.0 (17-20.0)</td> </tr> <tr> <th scope="row">Total 0-17</th> <td>20.6 (8-15.6)</td> <td>16.1 (22.2-24.0)</td> </tr> i am using the following function to find the contents of the table cells and bring it into an array: var l1 = $('#datatable td:nth-child(2)').map(function() { return $(this).text(); }).get(); the table fragment's id is "datatable". this returns properly, however i am putting this array into jqPlot and it cant read the stuff between the parentheses or the parentheses themselves. i need the data to remain in the table however because we are displaying both the table and the chart. i cant reformat (add spans around the content i want to remove etc) because these tables are being generated by another piece of software. i think what i need to do is either slice off after the space or use a regex to find and remove. not sure how to proceed with either of these. thanks!

  • Calling function using 'new' is less expensive than without it?

    - by Matthew Taylor
    Given this very familiar model of prototypal construction: function Rectangle(w,h) { this.width = w; this.height = h; } Rectangle.prototype.area = function() { return this.width * this.height; }; Can anyone explain why calling "new Rectangle(2,3)" is consistently 10x FASTER than calling "Rectangle(2,3)" without the 'new' keyword? I would have assumed that because new adds more complexity to the execution of a function by getting prototypes involved, it would be slower. Example: var myTime; function startTrack() { myTime = new Date(); } function stopTrack(str) { var diff = new Date().getTime() - myTime.getTime(); println(str + ' time in ms: ' + diff); } function trackFunction(desc, func, times) { var i; if (!times) times = 1; startTrack(); for (i=0; i<times; i++) { func(); } stopTrack('(' + times + ' times) ' + desc); } var TIMES = 1000000; trackFunction('new rect classic', function() { new Rectangle(2,3); }, TIMES); trackFunction('rect classic (without new)', function() { Rectangle(2,3); }, TIMES); Yields (in Chrome): (1000000 times) new rect classic time in ms: 33 (1000000 times) rect classic (without new) time in ms: 368 (1000000 times) new rect classic time in ms: 35 (1000000 times) rect classic (without new) time in ms: 374 (1000000 times) new rect classic time in ms: 31 (1000000 times) rect classic (without new) time in ms: 368

  • How do I change JAVASCRIPT_DEFAULT_SOURCES for my application?

    - by Adam Lassek
    When you call javascript_include_tag :defaults you usually get: prototype.js, effects.js, dragdrop.js, and controls.js. These are stored in a constant in ActionView::Helpers::AssetTagHelper called 'JAVASCRIPT_DEFAULT_SOURCES`. My application uses jQuery, so I want to replace the Prototype references with something more useful. I added an initializer with these lines, based on the source code from jRails: ActionView::Helpers::AssetTagHelper::JAVASCRIPT_DEFAULT_SOURCES = %w{ jquery-1.4.min jquery-ui jquery.cookie } ActionView::Helpers::AssetTagHelper::reset_javascript_include_default But when I do this, I get: warning: already initialized constant JAVASCRIPT_DEFAULT_SOURCES during startup. What's the correct way of changing this value? In the source code it checks for the constant before setting it, but apparently that happens before it runs the initializer scripts. The Rails 3.0 release will provide much greater flexibility with choice of JS libraries, so I guess this is a problem with an expiration date.

  • How does Google Wave & iGoogle prevent XSS by a widget?

    - by Axel
    Hello, If you've used Google Wave or iGoogle you have probably seen that you can insert widgets that are made by third parties without approval. My question is: How does prevent the widge from performing XSS or steak cookies? Are the widgets loaded in an <iframe>? If yes, then what prevents them from redirecting you to another page? Thanks
