  • How to not run function if its a mobile device?

    I have a modal pop up function on my website, but i don't want this to run if the browser is smaller than 480px. I have found that if I put an if statement such as: if (window.innerWidth && window.innerWidth > 480) { run function() } Then it should run only if the browsers innerWidth is 480. However its not working and I think its because I have page scaling on this website. Can any one help me with a conditional statement if page scaling is on? Thanks.

    Hi Folks, I know about ajax cross-domain policy. So I can't just call "http://www.google.com" over a ajax HTTP request and display the results somewhere on my site. I tried it with dataType "jsonp", that actually would work, but I get a syntax error (obviously because the received data is not json formated) Is there any other possiblity to receive/display data from a foreign domain ? iFrames follow the same policy?   • Brainfart: How to make overflow content in a div

    I cant even come up with a proper subject for this one... Basically I have a box div, that when click expands to a rectangle and shows content in the new expanded area. The problem I'm having is that when I animate out the div's width, the browser wants to render the content as the box is stretching, rather than just have it placed where I need it.   • ajax to php to curl and back..

    I am trying to make an ajax call to a php script. The php script calls an rss feed using curl, gets the data, and returns the data to the funciton. I keep getting an error "Warning: Wrong parameter count for curl_error() in" .... Here is my php code:1 $ch = curl_init() or die(curl_error()); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL, $feed); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1); $data1 = curl_exec($ch) or die(curl_error()); echo $data1; and the ajax call: $.ajax({ url: "getSingleFeed.php", type: "POST", data: "feedURL=" + window.feedURL, success: function(feed){ alert(feed); }}); I tested all the variables, they are being passed correctly, I can echo them out. But this line: $data1 = curl_exec($ch) or die(curl_error()); is what is giving me the error. I am doing the same thing with curl on other pages, just without ajax, and it is working fine. Is there anything special I need to do with ajax to do this?

  • Should I unit test my JavaScript?

    I'm curious to if it would be valuable, I'd like to start using QUnit, but I really don't know where to get started. Actually I'm not going to lie, I'm new to testing in general, not just with JS. I'm hoping to get some tips to how I would start using unit testing with an app that already has a large amount of JavaScript (ok so about 500 lines, not huge, be enough to make me wonder if I have regression that goes unnoticed). How would you recommend getting started and Where would I write my tests? (for example its rails app, where is a logical place to have my JS tests, it would be cool if they could go in the /test directory but it's outside the public directory and thus not possible... err is it?)

    I am using the following code to open and close a div ( slide up/down ) using js I have the slide down event attached to a button and the slide up event sttached to close text. What I want is the button onclick to open and onclick again close the slide element. But now I want to removed these two labels and want to show text(username, password) inside textfield. When user focuses on these textfields then texts should be removed and user can enter his desired username and password. I have also noticed that when user open a login form then font color of text(username, password) populated in textfield(username, password) is of diffent color and when user start typing in that field then previous text is removed and new font color is black. How is it possible?

What i would prefer is to: run an sql search after a key has not been pressed for say 800 milliseconds . So i want to have a timer that is started on key up, if the timer reaches 800ms then the ajax is called, if a new keyup event occurs the timer is restarted how would i do this?
