  • How to use cscope in Visual Studio?

    - by rahulthewall
Hello all, I am working with Visual Studio (2008 edition) for the first time. Used to programming in a Unix environment, I have become quite used to cscope and vim. For my current project, I really need cscope. I was wondering if there is any way I could use cscope on Visual Studio - or use cscope in Windows. Or if there is another tool which does this job .. Thanks Rahul

  • Inheritance from static classes? why not?

    - by Sorush Rabiee
Hi Why inheritance is not provided for static classes in C#? I know C# has a good reason for everything he implements or doesn't implement. I just wondered, what’s that “good reason” here? semantically, what would be happened if I was able to write a static class that inheritances from another static one? is this an ODD issue? or just programming?

  • HTML 5 Canvas performance

    - by Vilius
Hello there! I'm just started on playing around with the canvas HTML5-object. For the sake of performance tests, I have made a little ping pong game (http://bit.ly/arTPut). Apart from my quick'n'dirty programming skills, I believe, that there are also some performance boosts, I haven't used. Especially, the ball seams to be blue with a little red-touch, but by my decleration it should be yellow. Would be very nice, if someone could help me! Greetings, Vilius

  • Live chat rooms for learning ASP.NET?

    - by pkiyan
I have come across a couple of sites in the past where a professional programmer would charge you 50 cents per minute or so to chat with them, one on one, and they would answer any questions you have about your choice of programming language. I've been studying ASP.NET 3.5 for a couple of months now and haven't been able to find a service like this for ASP.NET. Any help? A free live chat room for .NET would be of big help too.

  • How to get XML into a Dictionary with an Expression?

    - by DaveDev
    I have the following XML: <PerformancePanel page="PerformancePanel.ascx" title=""> <FundGroup heading="Net Life Managed Funds"> <fund id="17" countryid="N0" index="24103723" /> <fund id="81" countryid="N0" index="24103723" /> <fund id="127" countryid="N0" index="24103722" /> <fund id="345" countryid="N0" index="24103723" /> <fund id="346" countryid="N0" index="24103723" /> </FundGroup> <FundGroup heading="Net Life Specialist Funds"> <fund id="110" countryid="N0" index="24103717" /> <fund id="150" countryid="N0" index="24103719" /> <fund id="119" countryid="N0" index="24103720" /> <fund id="115" countryid="N0" index="24103727" /> <fund id="141" countryid="N0" index="24103711" /> <fund id="137" countryid="N0" /> <fund id="146" countryid="N0" /> <fund id="133" countryid="N0" /> <fund id="90" countryid="N0" /> <fund id="104" countryid="N0" /> <fund id="96" countryid="N0" /> </FundGroup> </PerformancePanel> I can get the data into an anonymous object as follows: var offlineFactsheet = new { PerformancePanels = (from panel in doc.Elements("PerformancePanel") select new PerformancePanel { PerformanceFunds = (from fg in panel.Elements("FundGroup") select new { Heading = (fg.Attribute("heading") == null) ? "" : (string)fg.Attribute("heading"), Funds = (from fund in fg.Elements("fund") select new Fund { FundId = (int)fund.Attribute("id"), CountryId = (string)fund.Attribute("countryid"), FundIndex = (fund.Attribute("index") == null) ? null : new Index { Id = (int)fund.Attribute("index") }, FundNameAppend = (fund.Attribute("append") == null) ? "" : (string)fund.Attribute("append") }).ToList() }).ToDictionary(xx => xx.Heading, xx => xx.Funds)}; I'm trying to change my code such that I can assign the dictionary directly to a property of the class I'm working in, as described in this question. I'd like to have a Dictionary() where each header text is the key to the list of funds under it. I'm having difficulty applying the example in the linked question because that only returns a string, and this needs to return the dictionary. This is the point that I got to before it occurred to me that I'm lost!!!: this.PerformancePanels = doc.Elements("PerformancePanel").Select(e => { var control = (PerformancePanel)LoadControl(this.OfflineFactsheetPath + (string)e.Attribute("page")); control.PerformanceFunds = e.Elements("FundGroup").Select(f => { List<Fund> funds = (from fund in e.Elements("fund") select new Fund { FundId = (int)fund.Attribute("id"), CountryId = (string)fund.Attribute("countryid"), FundIndex = (fund.Attribute("index") == null) ? null : new Index { Id = (int)fund.Attribute("index") }, FundNameAppend = (fund.Attribute("append") == null) ? "" : (string)fund.Attribute("append") }).ToList(); string heading = (e.Attribute("heading") == null) ? "" : (string)e.Attribute("heading"); }).ToDictionary(xx => heading, xx => Funds); return control; }).ToList(); Could someone point me in the right direction please? I'm not even sure if 'Expression' is the right terminology. Could someone fill me in on that too? Thanks.

  • Deploying patches and new versions.

    - by 0plus1
I'm deveoping a big project, I have the dev folder (connected to a specific subdomain) then the "real" folder, the live one. When I'm ready to push patches or whole new versions I'm currently copying the files individually, is there a program that can help me do this task? Keep in mind that some files (the config one and the htacess) must never change in the live version. Thank you

  • Pros and Cons of oursql [closed]

    - by S.Mark
According to this python page, oursql looks very cool. oursql has real parameterization. oursql allows text or binary data to be streamed into the database and streamed out of the database, instead of requiring everything to be buffered in the client. oursql can both insert rows lazily and fetch rows lazily. oursql has unicode support on by default. So, Anyone start using it in the live projects and could share pros and cons over it?

  • Convert MSAccess Project Management Application to PHP/MySQL: Which Methodology?

    - by zzapper
I've got to convert a not terribly complicated bespoke project management system from MsAccess Application to PHP/MySQL. I've been programming for donkey's years but embarrassingly know practically nothing about modern methodologies. So the old 'learning curve' versus 'improved efficiency' conundrum rears its ugly head once again. Although I've Googled up some stuff I don't want to prejudice your suggestions, where would you start, I'm at your mercy?

  • What is the technical skill degree of your co-workers?

    - by bonefisher
For now it has been around 4 years that I work as developer. Most of my team mates, from their tech-skill, programming ability and code practices view, are somewhere between junior and senior. In all my previous jobs, there was a real geek who was brilliant at coding/analyzing/lead, but the others were just 'average' programmers. How would you rank your co-workers as good developers from rank 1 (best) - 5 (worst) ?

Can we benfit from all these new APIs? What is your preferred implementation of this pattern?

  • installing opencv for python issues

    - by vlad
I'm running OS X Leopard. I followed this site to install it. Trying to run any demo script, I now get "No module named opencv.cv", which is obviously stopping me from doing any programming. I am running python 2.5.1 (yes, I know it's kind of old). Why would this be, and how can I solve it? Thanks

  • Approximate timings for various operations on a "typical desktop PC" anno 2010

    - by knorv
In the article "Teach Yourself Programming in Ten Years" Peter Norvig (Director of Research, Google) gives the following approximate timings for various operations on a typical 1GHz PC back in 2001: execute single instruction = 1 nanosec = (1/1,000,000,000) sec fetch word from L1 cache memory = 2 nanosec fetch word from main memory = 10 nanosec fetch word from consecutive disk location = 200 nanosec fetch word from new disk location (seek) = 8,000,000 nanosec = 8 millisec What would the corresponding timings be for your definition of a typical PC desktop anno 2010?
