• How can I keep current with Python coding style?

  I've been using Python since version 2.2. I do pick up new language constructs like for example with statement or dictionary/set comprehensions. However, I've realized that even though I'm being consistent with PEP-8, for existing constructs I'm using old style, rather than new style (for example except Exception, e instead of except Exception as e). Is there a resource which would have either most current style guide, or even better a list of changes in Python's coding style?

• Design non-windowed Gtk.Frame in Glade

  I'm building a ToDo app for personal porpouses, and I'm using Quickly and Glade for this. I want it to desplay a list of the pending to-do elements. The problem I'm having is that I can't find the way to create a single Frame (not inside another window) with some other widgets inside to dinamically add them to a VBox that I already have created in Glade. Is there a way to do it or do I have to create the Frame in the code?

Members will set their schedules and available hours. Buyers can select one member, and book when they want to visit the member and reserve time online. Lets say our WP membership site has thousands of members each offering one service. We have 25 categories. On their profile page is his appointment or booking calendar, along with his personally created and uploaded (into S3) profile video. Website visitors should be able to easily book hours & days as desired. For now all members have a free membership. WE earn $ by bringing customers to the registered members and collecting one dollar for our service. Therefore, we need an affordable script and one that handles our members needs. We already have a paid copy of Jrox. What are those needs?   According to RFC 5321, the local-part of email addresses is case-sensitive. However, most providers that I know of (e.g., GMail) are not case-sensitive. (It's actually more complex than that: GMail ignores .s in emails as well.) Is there a list, or source, of the various rules, including case-sensitivity, for various major email providers? Is there a large-ish email provider than has case-sensitive email addresses?

• High end mobile workstations with pointer stick

  I am looking for a list of higher end mobile workstations that run Ubuntu/Kubuntu well and also have a hardware pointer stick. Here's an illustration of one (from sciencesurvivalblog): I wouldn't mind getting a Macbook Pro and wiping it but they refuse to use pointer sticks and to me, they are extremely efficient. I see a lot of potential for Lenovo thinkpads as well. System 76 said they have no plans to implement a hardware pointer stick so that leaves them out as well. Any ideas?

  While upgrading to 14.04, I got a prompt asking if I wanted to remove obsolete packages and that it would take hours to do so. So, I said "No" and decided to do it later. However, after the upgrade when I run sudo apt-get autoremove, it removes no packages at all. But when I run aptitude search '~o' I get a list of many obsolete packages. How do I remove all the obsolete packages in a proper manner?

• A strong component keeps everything together

  Most of the times you implement a WebCenter Content based system, you require some sort of customization. Sometimes these customizations need a Java class or two, or libraries (for example, the JavaMail API), or Database Objects (like new tables, views, indexes, etc). I have seen that libraries and Database Objects are usually put in place using manual steps. This means that the library jar files are copied to one of the common classes directory (set in the Content CLASSPATH variable) and/or the database scripts are executed manually. I have also seen people place the custom Java classes in the common classes directory. While this may seem like an easy solution, think about a scenario where you need to disable or uninstall the component or if you have to upgrade or migrate the system. You have to keep these manual steps documented and execute them every time you encounter the above scenarios. It is very common that some of these manual steps are missed when you have multiple teams and people working on the system. Here are a few points to ponder upon: Place all your custom Java classes within your component. Create a new directory, say ${COMPONENT_DIR}/classes, and place your code there. You can choose to bundle all your classes into a jar or you can place the entire class directory structure. Add a path entry to the Build Settings so that it is bundled with the component when you build it. You also need to update the Custom Class Path and the Custom Class Path Load Order under the Advanced Build Settings. This will ensure that the system CLASSPATH is updated to add this new directory. Create a new component for any new library that you want to add. Add the appropriate path entries to the Build Settings so that it is bundled with the component when you build it. You also need to update the Custom Class Path, Custom Class Path Load Order and/or the Custom Library Path under the Advanced Build Settings. Enter a comma separated list of features that this component will provide. When you create other components that will use the features exposed by this component, make sure that you specify a dependency to this library component by specifying the comma separated list of features in the Advanced Build Settings. The component wizard allows you to create custom install/uninstall Java code. The wizard will create a install filter class when you check the “Has Install” checkbox on the “Install/Uninstall Settings” tab. Consider using this filter class to create database objects when you install the component and drop the objects when you uninstall the component. If you do a lot of custom component development, consider creating a install/uninstall Java class, which can execute queries defined within the component. To sum up, whenever you write a new custom component, make sure that you bundle everything within the component.

• How to hide whitespace indicators in Vim

  Vim was showing some whitespace with commas and periods on a red background which I didn't want. After some googling I was able to get rid of the commas and periods by removing list and listchar lines from .vimrc, I was also hoping this would remove the red backgrounds it was putting in these places, but all it did was change that to white (see image). Is it possible to completely remove the whitespace background indicators in Vim? My .vimrc settings can be seen here

• File / Application association using a custom command is gone?

This was very useful, but now in 11.10 I can't find this option, it only shows me a list of applications and a button to look for applications in Internet. • Loading levels from .txt or .XML for XNA

  I'm attemptin to add multiple levels to my pong game. I'd like to simply exchange a few elements with each level, nothing crazy. Just the background texture, the color of the AI paddle (the one on the right side), and the music. It seems that the best way to go about this is by utilizing the StreamReader to read and write the files from XML. If there is a better, or more efficient alternative way then I'm all for it. In looking over the XNA Starter Platformer Kit provided by MS it seems that they've done it in this manner as well. • Install of mod_proxy to get ProxyPass to work

  I've been trying to follow these instructions, so that I could get the Citadel mail server to work alongside Apache, but I get an error when I try to restart Apache: Invalid command 'ProxyPass', ... I was told in the Apache docs that this is from the mod_proxy module, but apt-get install mod_proxy gives E: Couldn't find package mod_proxy, and I was unable to find it on the big list on the Apache site. What do I need to do to get the ProxyPass working in Ubuntu 10.04 TLS?
