• Google Rolls Out a New and Compact Navigation Bar

  Earlier this spring Google introduced the black navigation bar; now they’ve updated the bar to take up less space and be more useful. Although the black bar is useful in-so-far as it gives you quick access to Google services (useful, of course, only if you use those services) the new navigation bar–seen in the video above–includes an improved layout. Rather than use the bar space to spread out links which the user may or may not use the service links are now tucked into a mouse-over menu accessed by hovering on the Google logo. The majority of the space previously just taken up by links and the black bar itself is now a a search box. • Bridged VM guest does not get IPv6 prefix

  I have a similar problem and setup as described in IPv6 does not work over bridge. My host get a IPv6 prefix but the guest VM only gets a local fe80-prefix. • extra configuration needed after installing SSL certificate?

  We recently developed two rather simple PHP applications for AXA (European bank). URL's are axa.tfo.be/incentives/cipres and axa.tfo.be/incentives/zrkk (access to both sites is restricted to visitors with cookies with encrypted passwords) On a previous security audit by an external company several security issues have been found. All these issues have been solved by a collleague PHP developer. However, one last requirement has been added - all data should be transfered over https. My php collegue is on holiday, however - and unavailable at the moment. So I contacted my host, and asked for installing SSL certificate. I myself have no knowledge/experience with SSL, so I'm a bit at loss for the following problems. Comodo SSL certificate + unique IP address has been installed today by my webhost for subdomain axa.tfo.be (by www.combell.be). However, it doesn't seem to be working. I posted a question about this earlier today, and was told not to worry, see link: http://serverfault.com/questions/339320/what-happens-if-you-install-an-ssl-certificate Current problems: the web applications aren't accessible over https, http works though (if a valid cookie is available) there's a static html page at http://axa.tfo.be/incentives/cipres/static.html, even that page is only accessible over http My webhost is telling me that 'my application probably doesn't support SSL', and has asked me to set an SSL variable to true in my php code. So my questions: I have basic knowledge of php, but don't know where to start regarding the 'php ssl variable'. The sites have been online for some time, and have been developed for regular php access. (Google didn't bring me any help, either.) Can anyone point me in the right direction, or give me some clues about whether/what I should ask my webhost for further assistance? (I'm a bit on a tight schedule, the sites will be audited again on monday, and it's a customer i wouldn't want to loose...) Then I just download backup files and delete them. After deletion Munin's memory graph returns cache and buffers to the state that was before backup.   I create WCF service library and i test that working fine on WCF Test client(default). when i host the WCF service in winodws service that time i got the error. I am using windows XP sp3, .Net 3.5 and Visual Studio 2008. i got error. Error opening host : HTTP could not register URL "http://+:8731/WCFServerDLL/Service1/."   Possible Duplicates: how to know if a computer is 32 bit or 64 bit 32-bit v/s 64-bit systems Hi, This 32-bit and 64-bit thing baffles me. It's not often that I run across it, but when I do, it baffles me. Like when I want to download software from http://www.google.com/ime/transliteration/ it asks me which version to download. I have win XP running on my thinkpad machine. How do I find out if my hardware is 32-bit or 64-bit. Also, how do I find if OS is 32-bit or 64-bit and thus how to know which version to download from this link. Also for any installed application say firefox, how do I know which bit version is installed. How popular are 64-bit hardware/OSs?. Are all the new CPUs and OSs supporting 64-bit and 32-bit for backwards compatible or 64-bit is still a luxury? Thanks,

• Vista: "connect to a network" does not load (can't set up VPN)

  I'm trying to connect to my office VPN from home. One small problem: my home desktop uses Vista (64-bit, Ultimate edition). On Vista, you're supposed to set up a VPN like so: Open the control panel Click on Network Click on "Connect to a Network" Configure a new connection of type "Office" The problem is, when I click on the link for "Connect to a Network", nothing happens. Can anyone suggest how I should go about troubleshooting this? (Or am I better off just upgrading to Windows 7?)

• Ubuntu Server 13.10 can't mount hard drive that is on my router

  So I am working currently with my Ubuntu server which I have it on my laptop at the moment so I can test out how to work with the server OS. I have it up and running with samba, openSSH, webmin, and plexmedia server. My problem is that I can't seem to get the server to get to the router hard drive. I have a TP-link wdr3500. The format of the hard drive is a FAT32. What I've tried: install cifs. sudo vi /etc/fstab Type out \\ \tplinklogin.net\volume1 \mnt\media cifs guest 0 0 I have also tried out \\\192.168.0.1\volume1 \mnt\media cifs guest 0 0 But then when I go to terminal and do sudo mount -a, I usually get a error saying wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on //ipaddress/dns/volume1 , missing codepage or helper program, or other error. But in dmesg it will say unable to determine destination address. So am I doing something wrong here? I can't install the hard drive on to my laptop since my family is constantly using it to transfer data back and forth on it and they get mad at me if I just take it away.

• Installing SDM on a Cisco 2821 ISR

  I trying to change the configuration of our router, it's a Cisco 2821 Integrated Services Router. I don't know much about Cisco products. While looking at the PDF manual for the router I notices it talked about SDM Security Device Manager. But when I point my web browser at the IP address of the router, it give me a very simple web interface. It's sort of like a string builder for CLI commands. I'm guessing SDM was not installed on it. So my question how would I go about do that? I found this link (below), but I'm a bit new to networking. • How could I safely fix my walking "dead pixel" bug?

• Straight cable or cross over cable?

  I have pppoe internet connection. My ISP provides connections like this: ISP->media converter(fiber)->8 port switch(TP Link TL-SF1008D)->to individual internet connection account holders (like me) Now the connection between the media converter and the switch is done using 4 pair cross over cat5 cable and I would like to connect the cable running from the switch to the router and through router to my PC. So what type of cable should I use to make the connection between the switch and the router (straight thru cable or cross over cable)? The point I am trying to make is I am able to connect to the internet using straight through cable between the switch and my PC but when I connect the same cable between the switch and the router and from router to my PC I am not able to connect to the internet. Also, if I am using the 2 pair cable (instead of 4) between the switch and the router I am able to connect to the internet but same is not true in case of 4 pair cat5 cable.

• SDL & Windows 8 Metro WinRT

  I am just beginning to dip my tow into game programming and have been reading up on SDL, SFML, OpenGL, XNA, MonoGame and of course DirectX. (Needless to say there are a lot of choices out there) As much as I like SFMLs syntax I have chosen to read up and start with SDL as it is pretty ubiquitous and available on every platform (Windows, Linux, Mac) and also available on portable devices (Android, iOS) with the current exception of WinPhone 7 After that pre-amble here is my question. I notice that the docs say that for the windows platform the SDL API calls through to DirectX for higher perf. ( http://www.libsdl.org/intro.en/whatplatforms.html ) Microsoft have said that for Metro Game Apps you can only use DirectX (which means no XNA, no OpenGL, no SFML, etc, etc) My question is: If SDL just wraps DirectX calls will I (we) be able to use SDL to bring games to the new Metro WinRT environment and Windows 8 marketplace? This would be great if possible. Additionally as WinPhone 8 is supposedly built on Win8 then this could mean SDL would be available on the win phone in the future too. Thanks for your time in responding to this question and I look forward to hearing your response. EDIT: Based on DeadMG's answer I have installed Visual Studio 11 (beta) in Windows 8 Consumer Preview (CP) and went file-New to check project types. The project types: "Blank Application", "Direct2D Application" and "Direct3D Application" look of interest. I have selected "Direct2D App" but SDL generates its own window when you call: SDL_INIT Is it possible to link/setup the SDL window to point to the Direct2D surface in the this project?

• Nexus One USB freezes Vista SP2 Quad Core

  My Nexus One (N1) will occasionally freeze my Vista 32bit SP2 Quad Core 2.4GHz during POST. MB is ASUS P5N-E SLI with 4GB of RAM. The PC will be booting and when I connect the N1 via USB, the boot sequence will freeze, then continue once I unplug the N1 USB link. It happens whether the N1 is in USB debugging mode and when it is not. I'm not sure whether this is an N1 hw/fw issue, system interaction with my PC, or a result of my N1 development environment (I'm using the Eclipse Galileo IDE for Java Developers, primarily compiling to API Level 7. Eclipse has also occasionally frozen although I haven't established N1 USB cause-and-effect on that issue). Is anyone else experiencing these symptom?

• Are there any home/soho NAS devices that will backup/sync to the cloud?

  Looking for a home office (SOHO) market (priced) network hard drive (NAS) that will sync some or all of its content to a cloud-based backup service. The only option I've been able to find so far is NetGear's [ReadyNAS Vault][1] however from what I've read it's not as secure as it could be, and the service is quite expensive ($200/yr for 50GB of cloud storage) - it's 'powered' by ElephantDrive Ideally would love to see something like Wuala integrated into a Lacie Network HDD - conveniently, I suspect this is in the works as Lacie recently acquired Wuala, however nothing has come of it yet. I know there are options to use rsync with a customizable NAS (such as the very versatile and hackable D-Link DNS-323, but the easier this is to setup and maintain, the better. Thanks! ps. • Upgrading NAS hard drives

  I was thinking of buying a NAS for home-usage. I've never used a NAS or had HDDs set up in Raids. Before I commit myself to moving all my data to a NAS I need to find out how difficult it is to upgrade and replace the NAS' hard drives. Suppose I set up a Raid 1 NAS with two 1TB hdds. At some point in the future I will use up all the space and will have to install two new 2TB hdds. Now I'll need to migrate the data from the old disks to the new ones. Will I have to hook up one of the old disks in a computer and copy all the data back in the NAS? Or can the migration be done using only the NAS? I realize the answer to the question might depend on the NAS model. Being a simple for-home solution I was thinking of getting something along the lines of D-link's 323.

• How can I configure firefox to open links in the same window, but requests from external application

  I hate it, when sites decide for me, which links should open in a new window, and which in the same. The back-button doesn't work. Good thing is, firefox has the option browser.link.open_newwindow. If I set this to 1, all links with target=blank open in the same window, as it should be. But now also clicks in external programs (like the email-client or newsreader) on links open this in the same window, destroying the already opened website. How can I configure firefox to open links in a website always in the same window, but in external programs opened URLs always in a new one?

• Idea of an algorithm to detect a website's navigation structure?

  Currently I am in the process of developing an importer of any existing, arbitrary (static) HTML website into the upcoming release of our CMS. While the downloading the files is solved successfully, I'm pulling my hair off when it comes to detect a site structure (pages and subpages) purely from the HTML files, without the user specifying additional hints. Basically I want to get a tree like: + Root page 1 + Child page 1 + Child page 2 + Child child page1 + Child page 3 + Root page 2 + Child page 4 + Root page 3 + ... I.e. I want to be able to detect the menu structure from the links inside the pages. This has not to be 100% accurate, but at least I want to achieve more than just a flat list. I thought of looking at multiple pages to see similar areas and identify these as menu areas and parse the links there, but after all I'm not that satisfied with this idea. My question: Can you imagine any algorithm when it comes to detecting such a structure? Update 1: What I'm looking for is not a web spider, but an algorithm do create a logical tree of the relationship of the pages to be able to create pages and subpages inside my CMS when importing them. Update 2: As of Robert's suggestion I'll solve this by starting at the root page, and then simply parse links as you go and treat every link inside a page simply as a child page. Probably I'll recurse not in a deep-first manner but rather in a breadth-first manner to get a more balanced navigation structure.

• WPA2 authentication fails using USB network devices (Linksys and Rosewill)

  Decided to reduce the clutter in the house and replace a wired connection with a wireless one on my wife's system using USB network device Rosewill RNX-X1. I can see and connect to unprotected network, but WPA2 authentication repeatedly fails. Tried the same with a Linksys USB network adapter. Both failed to authenticate. Worth noting that I recently switched from Comcast to CenturyLink and so switched routers. The system connected successfully to previous router (Linksys EA4500) using WPA2. Would think it is the router (Actiontec C1000A) but all other devices (TV, iPad, Windows, Blackberry, and Squeezebox) connect ok. Would appreciate some diagnostic guidance and insight (phrased for a newbie!) • Server 2008 R2 .Net 4 Programs running from Network share won't work

  we have several .Net Apps stored on a Network share on our old Server (Windows Server 2003). These Apps get called by Windows 7 32bit Clients and work perfectly fine. We recently wanted to upgrade our Server to Windows Server 2008 R2 and moved the Apps from the old share to our new share on the new Server. The problem started right afterwards since all of our .Net Programs won't start anymore from the new share (2008 R2). The Error that comes up is: "This application could not be started." and with a link to Microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2715633 (This Error also shows up when i start a simple console HelloWorld from the server share created in VS2012) Does anyone have any Idea why this is not working anymore on the new Servershare? We've been searching for two days now with no result at all. Any Tips / Help / Questions appreciated :) Greetings Lim
