• Directory access control with Apache: do I need to use a specific .htaccess?

  I have an Apache webserver, and in the Apache configuration, I have Alias /backups "/backups" <Directory "/backups"> AllowOverride None Options Indexes Order allow,deny Allow from all </Directory> I can access files via http://127.0.0.1/backups. The problem is everyone can access that. I have a web interface, e.g. http://localhost/adminm that is protected with htaccess and password. Now I don't want separate .htaccess and .htpasswd for /backups, and I don't want a second password prompt when a user clicks on /backups in the web interface. Is there any way to use same .htaccess and .htpasswd for the backups directory?

• Particles are not moving correctly [closed]

  I want to make a particle explosion, after something gets destroyed, but somehow only one line of mixed colors show up on the screen. PS: "Uint32 delta" is needed to update the pixels based on time. PSS: Maybe I should add that it's programmed in C and includes SDL. EDIT: Found the problem. It was the "drawParticles" function. The problem was, that I passed a double to "offset" (as particles[i].x, etc are all doubles). So I ended up with values like ~MAX_INT because I didn't cast the doubles properly to ints.

  I submitted my site's URL to my workplace's printed newsletter and when I get the printed version, they added a dot to the end of it. Some people will realize that the period is not a part of the url but others will not. Is there an easy way to redirect from http://example.com/home. to http://example.com/home? I have a IIS 7.0 shared hosting with GoDaddy. This means I have access to the box only through their interface so some options might be limited.

  This copy machine / scanner / network printer works with Windows but no drivers are available for linux. When Ubuntu supports a printer it works fine but this one is not supported.   I'm trying to figure out how to find out if there's a good standard format for sharing business information such as: Business Name Address - well-defined fields Lat,Lng Coords Business Type - maybe from a well-defined enum, my starting point contains Retail,Food,Drink,Coffee,Service Hours of operation - including a spot for 'except laksdasd' or 'sometimes we open late' which could be just plain language Business Keywords - don't know if this is asking too much. how well do http meta tags work in practice?   I am reviving/reorganising my personal WordPress blog. It's using a URL that looks like this: http://mydomain.com/blog The webserver 301 redirects www.mydomain.com to mydomain.com. I want to use the blog subdirectory because I plan to add other parts to the site, with the blog only being one part of the site. However, at the moment there is nothing there but the blog, so I want to have the root index page redirect to the blog for the time being. I have been using this on the root index.html page to do the redirect... <meta http-equiv="REFRESH" content="0;url=./blog"></HEAD> ...but this seemed to have stopped the site being indexed by Google and Bing. How do I do this without affecting SEO? Also, what URL should I put in the sitemap.xml?

  Silverlight has a method called HtmlPage.PopupWindow() that opens new web browser window with a specific page. You can find this method in the namespace System.Windows.Browser. If you haven’t in your project, add a reference to System.Windows.Browser. The most important things I want this series to answer is : What is it?  Why do I care? How do I do it? I hope that you enjoy this series. Let’s get started: Tip/Trick #16) What is it? Find out version information about Silverlight and which WebKit it is using by going to http://issilverlightinstalled.com/scriptverify/. Why do I care? I’ve had those users that its just easier to give them a site and say copy/paste the line that says User Agent in order to troubleshoot a Silverlight problem. I’ve also been debugging my own Silverlight applications and needed an easy way to determine if the plugin is disabled or not. How do I do it: Simply navigate to http://issilverlightinstalled.com/scriptverify/ and hit the Verify button. An example screenshot is located below: Results from Chrome 7 Results from Internet Explorer 8 (With Silverlight Disabled) Tip/Trick #17) What is it? Use Lambdas whenever you can. Why do I care?  It is my personal opinion that code is easier to read using Lambdas after you get past the syntax. Prevent development Web Service references from breaking when Visual Studio auto generates a new port number. Why do I care?  We have all been there, we are developing a Silverlight Application and all of a sudden our development web services break. We check and find out that the local port number that Visual Studio assigned has changed and now we need up to update all of our service references. We need a way to stop this. How do I do it: This can actually be prevented with just a few mouse click. Right click on your web solution and goto properties. Click the tab that says, Web. You just need to click the radio button and specify a port number. Now you won’t be bothered with that anymore. Tip/Trick #19) What is it? You can disable the Close Button a ChildWindow. Why do I care?  I wouldn’t blog about it if I hadn’t seen it. Devs trying to override keystrokes to prevent users from closing a Child Window. How do I do it: A property exist on the ChildWindow called “HasCloseButton”, you simply change that to false and your close button is gone. You can delete the “Cancel” button and add some logic to the OK button if you want the user to respond before proceeding. Tip/Trick #20) What is it? Cleanup your XAML. Why do I care?  By removing unneeded namespaces, not naming all of your controls and getting rid of designer markup you can improve code quality and readability. How do I do it: (This is a 3 in one tip) Remove unused Designer markup: 1) Have you ever wondered what the following code snippet does? xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2008" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006" mc:Ignorable="d" d:DesignWidth="640" d:DesignHeight="480" This code is telling the designer to do something special with this page in “Design mode” Specifically the width and the height of the page. When its running in the browser it will not use this information and it is actually ignored by the XAML parser. In other words, if you don’t need it then delete it. 2) If you are not using a namespace then remove it. In the code sample below, I am using Resharper which will tell me the ones that I’m not using by the grayed out line below. If you don’t have resharper you can look in your XAML and manually remove the unneeded namespaces. 3) Don’t name an control unless you actually need to refer to it in procedural code. If you name a control you will take a slight performance hit that is totally unnecessary if its not being called. <TextBlock Height="23" Text="TextBlock" />   That is the end of the series. • Google Chrome Browser does not display the images from Local network or local host? [migrated]

  While developing and testing a site on local network I have noticed that while IE/FireFox would display the images coming from URL's like "http:\mypc" or "http:\localhost" or ip adress on the netwrok , google chrome on Galaxy, Windows Machine, or google Android will not display the images. After having burned too many hours trying various CSS, image src tag, html document description tricks, I have given up. During my search I found (and lost) the link to chrome forums regarding this issue that seemed to say it is just so by users. Anyone has any more information on weather it is possible to view images on local host/computer name on netwrok or ip adress?

The new site have to follow the structure of the old site that requires the presence of a vertical main menu in the left column that contains the link to all the statics pages in the site.   In this post, we will look at implementing the following in our twitter client - displaying the profile picture in the home page after logging in. So to accomplish this, we will need to do the following steps. 1) First of all, let us create another field in our Global variable static class to hold the profile image url. So just create a static string field in that. public static string profileImage { get; set; } 2) In the Login.xaml.cs file, before the line where we redirect to the Home page if the login was successful. Create another WebClient request to fetch details from this url - .xml">http://api.twitter.com/1/users/show/<TwitterUsername>.xml I am interested only in the “profile_image_url” node in this xml string returned. You can choose what ever field you need – the reference to the Twitter API Documentation is here. 3) This particular url does not require any authentication so no need of network credentials for this and also the useDefaultCredentials will be true. So this code would look like. It's currently indexing them on it's own time I believe which is every 2 - 3 days and when working in music and media I need to have the latest post fairly quickly. My robots.txt file is. User-agent: * Disallow: /wp-admin/ Disallow: /wp-content/ Disallow: /wp-includes/ sitemap: http://vipes.us/sitemapindex.xml If I am understanding this correctly, I would put this URL into Google http://vipes.us/sitemapindex.xml. But in doing so I still only get some of my pages indexed?

• .htaccess mobile redirect issues

  I'm trying to set up a mobile redirect for a site with 2 subfolders, and I cannot get both to work at the same time. This is the structure of the site www.mysite.com/EN/ www.mysite.com/ES/ This is a bilingual site so each subfolder contains the files corresponding to each language version. Then I was using a 301 redirect, and setting up the index in /EN/ as the main index. Everything was getting redirected to it. I was using DirectoryIndex index.html Redirect /index.html http://www.mysite.com/EN/index.html and several Rewritecond to redirect mysite.com and old urls to the new URL. It worked fine before I decided to add a mobile version - m.mysite.com. I used the solution provided in http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3680463/mobile-redirect-using-htaccess, and it redirects my mobile version properly, but now the desktop is both working. Besides, my mobile version must be bilingual as well.
