Javascript top variable in IE8

I am trying to reference a javascript function in a .js file loaded in my main page from an iframe using the 'top' variable. It works in FF, Safari, and IE6 but not in IE8. The snippet is (assigned to onmouseover): top.set_image(this, 'images/login_h.png') Where set_image is my function. The error is "Object does not support this function" Also, I have been looking for the definition of top. I can't find it in the ECMAScript specification or the w3schools site and Google is unhelpful (who'da thunk top was a common word?).

ASP.NET MVC 2: Custom client side validation rule for dropdowns

I have some custom validation that I need to perform that involves checking the selected option of a dropdown and flagging it as invalid should the user select a specific option. I am using ASP.NET MVC 2 and have a custom Validator and custom server side and client side validation rules as described in this blog article. The server side validation is working fine, however, the client side validation is failing. Here is the javascript validation rule: Sys.Mvc.ValidatorRegistry.validators["badValue"] = function(rule) { var badValue = rule.ValidationParameters["badValue"]; return function(value, context) { if (value != badValue) { return true; } return rule.ErrorMessage; }; }; The rule is being applied to the dropdowns successfully, and placing a breakpoint within the returned function confirms that the validation is firing, and that the 'badValue' is being correctly set. However, 'value' is always null, and so the check always fails. What am I doing wrong?

The translation tool isn't able to translate this working code. Drupal: Create custom search

I'm trying to create a custom search but getting stuck. What I want is to have a dropdownbox so the user can choose where to search in. These options can mean 1 or more content types. So if he chooses options A, then the search will look in node-type P,Q,R. But he may not give those results, but only the uid's which will be then themed to gather specific data for that user. To make it a little bit clearer, Suppose I want to llok for people. The what I'm searching in is 2 content profile types. But ofcourse you dont want to display those as a result, but a nice picture of the user and some data. I started with creating a form with a textfield and the dropdown box. Then, in the submit handler, i created the keys and redirected to another pages with those keys as a tail. This page has been defined in the menu hook, just like how search does it. After that I want to call hook_view to do the actual search by calling node_search, and give back the results. Unfortunately, it goes wrong. When i click the Search button, it gives me a 404. But am I on the right track? Is this the way to create a custom search? Thx for your help. jQuery / Spry Validation / Problem

Hi Chaps, I have a PHP form with one input and a button. A jQuery script ('loading' animated gif) is triggered on the click of the submit button. I also have a Spry Validation field linked to the input. At the moment, if the validation is triggered, the animated gif continues and won't stop. The furthest I've managed to get with it, is to click the validation message to stop the animation, but what I'm really after is to stop the animation when the validation is visible/triggered, but I can't find a suitable Event. $(function() { $("#button_download") .click(function() { }) .throbber(); $("#sprytextfield1") .click(function(sprytextfield1) { $.throbberHide(); }) }); If someone can point me in the right direction, that would be sweet.

This map is similar to the one that can be sent to the .css() method, except that the range of properties is more restrictive. Am I missing something? By the way, I'm using 1.4.2.

How can I terminate a system command with alarm in Perl?

I am running the below code snippet on Windows. The server starts listening continuously after reading from client. I want to terminate this command after a time period. If I use alarm() function call within main.pl, then it terminates the whole Perl program (here main.pl), so I called this system command by placing it in a separate Perl file and calling this Perl file (alarm.pl) in the original Perl File using the system command. But in this way I was unable to take the output of this system() call neither in the original Perl File nor in called one Perl File. C# run Javascript from button click

I have a button on my .aspx interstitial page. When I click it the onClick event fires off and it does a bunch of validations in the code. I have a javascript function that I need to call/run AFTER these validations are performed. This javascript function closes the interstitial page. How can I call the javascript function from my C# code? I've tried adding a script manager and a client script but neither work. What else besides these two options do I have? This function works well, if i test it in a litte program simply printing out the lines. now i created a webdynpro containing a table to display these customers. I also did the binding! AND it works, but only if an event fires the execute...function. What i need is kind of "execute initially", means that the function gets executed when the table initially loads. How can i do this? Efficiently check string for one of several hundred possible suffixes

I need to write a C/C++ function that would quickly check if string ends with one of ~1000 predefined suffixes. Specifically the string is a hostname and I need to check if it belongs to one of several hundred predefined second-level domains. This function will be called a lot so it needs to be written as efficiently as possible. Bitwise hacks etc anything goes as long as it turns out fast. Set of suffixes is predetermined at compile-time and doesn't change. I am thinking of either implementing a variation of Rabin-Karp or write a tool that would generate a function with nested ifs and switches that would be custom tailored to specific set of suffixes. Since the application in question is 64-bit to speed up comparisons I could store suffixes of up to 8 bytes in length as const sorted array and do binary search within it. Are there any other reasonable options?

Using Fantom USB Driver from JNI

I'm having some difficulty with JNI. I'm using JNI to call some Java methods from a C++ program. This implementation of JNI is working fine. The goal of the Java program is to send commands over USB to a LEGO robot using LEJOS. This works fine when running the Java program by itself but for some reason when I call the methods from C++ the robot cannot be detected. My only lead so far is that there may be some problem using the Fantom USB driver from a JNI call. This is the driver that's used for the USB connection to the robot. I've had a quick look at the code for the driver and it looks like it makes use of JNI too. So I guess I'm asking the following things: What differences could there be between calling code from JNI and executing it through command prompt with the 'java classname args' method which could cause this problem? Could it be that there is some problem with me using JNI in C++ when the driver that's being used uses JNI as well? I won't post any code just now as I don't think it's really relevant but if anyone thinks that they need to see it then I can add it.

ASP.Net ListView and event handling.

I have an .ascx which contains a listview. Let's call it the parent. Within its ItemTemplate I reference a second .ascx which is basically another listview, let's call it the child. On the parent, the child control is wrapped in a placeholder tag. I use this place holder tag to show and hide the child. Psuedo code: The child listview has a 'close' button in its Layout Template. Let's call it "btnClose" with an onClick event of "btnClose_Click". I want to use this button to set the visibility of the containing placeholder. I'm trying to avoid doing something like using PlaceHolder plhChild = (PlaceHolder)childListCtl.NamingContainer since I can't guarantee every instance of the child .ascx will be contained within a placeholder. I tried creating an event in the child that could be subscribed to. Psuedo code: public delegate CloseButtonHandler(); public event CloseButtonHandler CloseButtonEvent; And in the actual btnClose_Click(Object sender, EventArgs e) event I have: if (CloseButtonEvent != null) CloseButtonEvent(); My problem is that the delegate CloseButtonEvent is always null. I've tried assigning the delegate in the listview's OnDatabound event of the parent and on the click event, to set the plhChild.visible = true, and I've stepped through the code and know the delegate instantiation works in both place, but again, when it gets to the btnClose_Click event on the child, the delegate is null. Any help would be appreciated. Neil

Drop target - where do I register the COleDropTarget variable if the view class doesn't have OnCreat

The MSDN site says: From your view class's function that handles the WM_CREATE message (typically OnCreate), call the new member variable's Register member function. Revoke will be called automatically for you when your view is destroyed. But I don't have an OnCreate function in the ChildView class. I do have OnCreate in the CMainFrame class. Can I register it there? What are the ramifications? PLEASE NOTE: I have it working for dropping files but I want to drop the text as a file, not at a cursor location like a text cut and paste, but rather I want the application to make a buffer to hold it, and I will treat it like a file. Far jump in ntdll.dll's internal ZwCreateUserProcess

I'm trying to understand how the Windows API creates processes so I can create a program to determine where invalid exes fail. I have a program that calls kernel32.CreateProcessA. Following along in OllyDbg, this calls kernel32.CreateProcessInternalA, which calls kernel32.CreateProcessInternalW, which calls ntdll.ZwCreateUserProcess. This function goes: mov eax, 0xAA xor ecx, ecx lea edx, dword ptr [esp+4] call dword ptr fs:[0xC0] add esp, 4 retn 0x2C So I follow the call to fs:[0xC0], which contains a single instruction: jmp far 0x33:0x74BE271E But when I step this instruction, Olly just comes back to ntdll.ZwCreateUserProcess at the add esp, 4 right after the call (which is not at 0x74BE271E). I put a breakpoint at retn 0x2C, and I find that the new process was somehow created during the execution of add esp, 4. So I'm assuming there's some magic involved in the far jump. I tried to change the CS register to 0x33 and EIP to 0x74BE271E instead of actually executing the far jump, but that just gave me an access violation after a few instructions. What's going on here? I need to be able to delve deeper beyond the abstraction of this ZwCreateUserProcess to figure out how exactly Windows creates processes.

Best Practise for Stopwatch in multi processors machine?

I found a good question for measuring function performance, and the answers recommend to use Stopwatch as follows Stopwatch sw = new Stopwatch(); sw.Start(); //DoWork sw.Stop(); //take sw.Elapsed But is this valid if you are running under multi processors machine? the thread can be switched to another processor, can it? Also the same thing should be in Enviroment.TickCount. If the answer is yes should I wrap my code inside BeginThreadAffinity as follows Thread.BeginThreadAffinity(); Stopwatch sw = new Stopwatch(); sw.Start(); //DoWork sw.Stop(); //take sw.Elapsed Thread.EndThreadAffinity(); P.S The switching can occur over the thread level not only the processor level, for example if the function is running in another thread so the system can switch it to another processor, if that happens, will the Stopwatch be valid after this switching? I am not using Stopwatch for perfromance measurement only but also to simulate timer function using Thread.Sleep (to prevent call overlapping)

Timer with random seconds ¿How to update the random seconds?

I have a timer "tmr_sendCesta" which must be called each x seconds between 1 and 3 seconds. The problem is the timer "tmr_sendCesta" is called only one time, and the random seconds is never updated. I need to call the function "createCesta" each x seconds randomly. I'm familiar with php's function bin2hex() for converting binary data to its hexadecimal representation. However, what is the complement function to convert the hexadecimal representation of the data back to binary data? For example: $foo = "hello"; $foo = bin2hex($foo); echo $foo; // Displays 68656c6c6f How do I turn it back to hello? $foo = "68656c6c6f"; // Now what? There is no hex2bin() function.
