  • adding a div with data()

    - by Dizzy Bryan High
    Hi people am generating a list of flash swfs, the information comes from an ajax call which returns a json object which i loop through to create the rows of data using my makeAppRow function. makeAppRow = function(myData){ var myStr = '<div class="fileEntry">' myStr = myStr +'<div class="appDate">'+dateFormat(myData.date_swf, "dS mmmm, yyyy, h:MM TT")+'</div>' myStr = myStr +'<div class="appName">'+myData.name_swf+'</div>' myStr = myStr +'<div class="appOptions" data>' myStr = myStr +'<div class="gotoAppBtn" data-options="'+myData+'">Open App</div>' myStr = myStr +'</div>' myStr = myStr +'</div>' $('#appData').append(myStr); } I need the json data to be attached to the gotoAppBtn so that when its clicked i can read in the data from the attached json object and use it in my click function, as you can see ive been trying to embed the data using the html5 data but i cant get it to work. <div class="gotoAppBtn" data-options="'+myData+'">Open App</div> i have a function so that when the button is clicked it loads in an swf. $('.gotoAppBtn').live('click', function(){ //alert('button clicked') var myData = $(this).data("options") alert('../userfiles/'+myData.id_ugp+'/'+myData.id_swf+'/'+myData.launchfile_swf+'') console.log(myData); var flashvars = {}; var params = {}; params.menu = "false"; params.quality = "best"; params.scale = "noscale"; var attributes = {}; attributes.id = "flashAppDisplay"; attributes.name = "flashAppDisplay"; swfobject.embedSWF( '../userfiles/'+myData.id_ugp+'/'+myData.id_swf+'/'+myData.launchfile_swf+'', 'flashAppDisplay', myData.width_swf, myData.height_swf, myData.version_swf ,"../FAVideo/expressInstall.swf", flashvars, params, attributes) }); but the data does not seem to be there, any pointers on where i am going wrong, or a better way to achive this???

  • preventing jCarousel form returning to begining position after loading page

    - by Crippletoe
    Hi all, i am using jCarousel as a menu in my website. there is a list of links there which is longer than its containing elements and jCarousel is used as a scroll bar to view that list. my problem is that whenever a link is clicked and a new page is loaded, jCarousel resets to its begining position thus sometimes an active link is no longer visible after the page reloads. any idea how i can make jCarousel focus on the specific active link? you can see an example of what i mean here: http://174.133.190.8/~goldarch/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=50&Itemid=57 (check out the menu on top) thank you all.

  • Combining a mousedown event with a keydown event

    - by gotguts
    I am trying to combine a keydown event with a mousedown event. Basically, I have a chat dialog, and if the user writes in one of 2 divs (keydown event) or makes a selection from either (or both) of 2 dropdowns (mousedown), I need these to have the same exact function. Thanks in advance. Code (to be combined): $('#usermsg').add('#otherComments').keydown(function() { // When key pressed and $('#strategies').add('#whySwitch').mousedown(function() { // When mouse is clicked //function body });

  • Image not loading from cache after it's loaded in an iframe

    - by Amir
    I'm loading an image in an iframe and then (once the iframe is loaded) loading the image on the page. But most browsers seem to be loading the image twice. Why isn't the img tag being loading from the cache? Something like this: var loader = $('<iframe />').appendTo('body')[0]; loader.onload = function() { $('body').append('<img src="' + imgsrc + '" />'); }; loader.src = imgsrc; http://jsfiddle.net/amirshim/na3UA/ I'm using fiddler2 to see the network traffic. In case you want to know why I want to do this, check out this question

  • Making a Javascript game, Having a little problem with scrolling.

    - by RobertWHurst
    I have a #wrapper div and a #grid div nested inside. currently I can scroll around with this function below. getCursorPos : function(){ // set the empty cursor object var cursor = {}; //get the offset from the left of the grid container var grid //offset loop $(function getCursorPos(){ grid = $('#grid').offset(); setTimeout(getCursorPos, game.loopSpeed); }); //continuosly get the position var that = this; $(document).mousemove(function(e){ //if game mode is menu exit if(game.mode === 'menu'){ return; } // NOTE: this looks a litle over done but don't remove anything // its like this because javascript uses floating points // and so in order to line up to the nearest hunderedth I // had to make the cursor and div position intergers by // muliplying by ten. one the two are added I reduced them // and rounded them. that.x = Math.round(((e.pageX * 10) - (grid.left * 10)) / 10); that.y = Math.round(((e.pageY * 10) - (grid.top * 10)) / 10); }); }, the problem is that the mouse coordinates only update when the mouse moves. is there any way to get the coordinates with out moving the mouse?

  • Radio buttons being reset in FF on cache-refresh

    - by Andrew Song
    (This is technically an addendum to an earlier StackOverflow question I had posted, but my original post asked a different question which doesn't really cover this topic -- I don't want to edit my older question as I feel this is different enough to merit its own page) While browsing my website in Firefox 3.5 (and only FF3.5), I come across a page with two radio buttons that have the following HTML code: <input id="check1" type="radio" value="True" name="check" checked="checked"/> <input id="check2" type="radio" value="False" name="check"/> This page renders as expected, with 'check1' checked and 'check2' unchecked. When I then go to refresh the page by pressing Control + R, the two radio buttons render, but they are both unchecked even though the raw HTML code is the same (as above). If I do a cache-miss refresh (via Control + F5 or Control + Shift + R), the page returns back to the way you'd expect it. This is not a problem in any other browser I've tried except FF3.5. What is causing these radio buttons to be reset on a normal refresh? How can I avoid this?

  • Does this incorporate JavaScript closures?

    - by alex
    In trying to learn JavaScript closures, I've confused myself a bit. From what I've gathered over the web, a closure is... Declaring a function within another function, and that inner function has access to its parent function's variables, even after that parent function has returned. Here is a small sample of script from a recent project. It allows text in a div to be scrolled up and down by buttons. var pageScroll = (function() { var $page, $next, $prev, canScroll = true, textHeight, scrollHeight; var init = function() { $page = $('#secondary-page'); // reset text $page.scrollTop(0); textHeight = $page.outerHeight(); scrollHeight = $page.attr('scrollHeight'); if (textHeight === scrollHeight) { // not enough text to scroll return false; }; $page.after('<div id="page-controls"><button id="page-prev">prev</button><button id="page-next">next</button></div>'); $next = $('#page-next'); $prev = $('#page-prev'); $prev.hide(); $next.click(scrollDown); $prev.click(scrollUp); }; var scrollDown = function() { if ( ! canScroll) return; canScroll = false; var scrollTop = $page.scrollTop(); $prev.fadeIn(500); if (scrollTop == textHeight) { // can we scroll any lower? $next.fadeOut(500); } $page.animate({ scrollTop: '+=' + textHeight + 'px'}, 500, function() { canScroll = true; }); }; var scrollUp = function() { $next.fadeIn(500); $prev.fadeOut(500); $page.animate({ scrollTop: 0}, 500); }; $(document).ready(init); }()); Does this example use closures? I know it has functions within functions, but is there a case where the outer variables being preserved is being used? Am I using them without knowing it? Thanks Update Would this make a closure if I placed this beneath the $(document).ready(init); statement? return { scrollDown: scrollDown }; Could it then be, if I wanted to make the text scroll down from anywhere else in JavaScript, I could do pageScroll.scrollDown(); I'm going to have a play around on http://www.jsbin.com and report back

  • dynamically changing the selector text

    - by kelly
    I have a 'next' button which fades out a div, shows another, changes out a graphic and then... I want it to change the actual ID of the 'next' button but neither .html nor replaceWith seem to be working. I have this: $(document).ready(function(){ $('#portfolio').fadeTo(500,0.25); $('#account') .animate({width:"10.1875em",height:"11.1875em",duration:'medium'}); $('#next2_btn').click(function(){ $('#content').fadeTo(300, 0.0, function() { $('#content2').show(300, function() { $('#next2_btn').$('#next2_btn'.value).html('<area shape="rect" coords="826,935,906,971" id="next3_btn" href="#">') $('#account').fadeTo(500,1.0) .animate({marginLeft:"220px", width:"2em",'height' :"2em",duration:'medium'}) .animate({     marginLeft:"400px",     marginTop:"35px",     width:"7em",     height:"7em", duration:"medium"     }, 'medium', 'linear', function() {     $('#statusGraphic').replaceWith('<img src="state2_138x28.gif">');     }) .fadeTo(500,0.5); $('#portfolio') .fadeTo(500,1.5) .animate({marginLeft:"-175px", width:"2em",height:"2.5em",duration:'medium'}) .animate({marginLeft:"-330px", width:"8.5em",height:"9.9375em",duration:'medium'}); }); }) })

  • What's the proper workaround for creating a div with a table in it with images in the table?

    - by Noor
    I want this: <div id="display"> <div id="slideshow1"> <table cellspacing=0><tr><td style="height:200px;padding:0;vertical-align:middle"> <img ... /> </td></tr></table> </div> </div> And I'm using this: var thelistt = localStorage.getItem('thelist') var trt = document.createElement("div"); trt.setAttribute("Id","slideshow1"); trt.className="pics"; $('#display').append(trt); var tble = document.createElement("table"); tble.setAttribute("cellspacing","0"); tble.innerHTML = "<tr><td style='height:200px;padding:0;vertical-align:middle'>"; $('#slideshow1').append(tble); trt.innerHTML += thelistt; This creates a div, then a table, closes the table, then images, then closes div.. Isn't there a smoother way to not do all this, if someone'd take a look at my current code i''m sure you'd get a good laugh : http://hem.bredband.net/noor/bildspelet3.html (you need to click on edit and put in two or more urls directly to images)

  • form serialize problem

    - by ZX12R
    I have a form. I am trying to validate it through AJAX GET requests. So i am trying to send the field values in the GET request data. $('#uxMyForm').serialize(); the problem it is returning something undecipherable. I have used serialize before. This is totally bizzare. the return value of serialize is authenticity_token=oRKIDOlPRqfnRehedcRRD7WXt6%2FQ0zLeQqwIahJZJfE%3D&customer%5BuxName%5D=&customer%5BuxEmail%5D=&customer%5BuxResidentialPhone%5D=&customer%5BuxMobilePhone%5D=&customer%5BuxDateOfBirth%5D=&customer%5BuxAddress%5D=&customer%5BuxResidentialStatus%5D= i have no idea how to use this. Thanks

  • Is there a better way to serially submit multiple AJAX requests?

    - by friedo
    I have a page with multiple forms that I submit via Ajax POSTs serially. At first, I tried using synchronous XHR requests, but this causes the browser to lock up for the duration of the request, and breaks my DOM-manipulation effects, which is unacceptable. So the pattern I ended up using is basically this: var fcount = 0; // incremented for each form to be submitted function submit_form( num ) { var fdata = { ... }; // data from form # num $.ajax( { async: true, url: '/index.cgi', data: fdata, type: 'POST', success: function() { if ( num < fcount ) { submit_form( ++num ); } } } ); } $( '#submit_form_btn' ).click( function() { submit_form( 1 ) } ); The recursion strikes me as a bit of an ugly solution to what is essentially an iterative problem. Is there a cleaner or more elegant way that this could be handled?

  • ProgressBar while transferring data from Excel sheet to SQL database table

    - by Sagar patel
    Can anyone tell me how to show animated progress bar while the data from an Excel sheet to a SQL database table is being transfered? I have a form in .aspx page. In that form, there is one FileUpload control that uploads an Excel file. While uploading that file and saving it on the server at the same time I'm transferring the data from the Excel sheet to a SQL table. During this transfer, I want to show a ProgressBar and after transferring all data it will be removed automatically.. Is there something I can do to achieve this?

  • JQuyer slide and stop issues: animated element freezes with quick mouse movement

    - by sherlock
    Here is Zi JsFiddle. In order to replicate my issue you have to hover over the link that says 'javascript', then mouseout that, then mouseback in. If you do this before the animation is complete, the pink slidedown #subMenu will freeze midway through sliding. Is there a way to prevent this from happening? I have tried some .stop()s , but i really don't want the animation to re-start every time you mouseenter or leave the .navLink . The animation should begin from where it left off. In other words, if the pink section is halfway down, and a slideDown() gets executed, the pink should not dissappear and then slide down, it should slide down from where it is. Thanks!! JS: $('header#subHeader').hide(); $('.navLink').hover(function () { if ($(this).children('div').length > 0) { var subMenu = $(this).find('.subMenu').html(); $('header#subHeader').empty().append('<div>' + subMenu + '</div>').stop().slideDown(); } else { $('header#subHeader').stop().slideUp(); } }); $('hgroup:first').on('mouseleave', function(){ $('header#subHeader').slideUp(); });

  • Images are overflowing their container in IE8 with Fancybox

    - by alex
    In a sort of follow up to this question, I have another problem in IE8. When clicking the gallery and the lightbox appears, the images are overflowing their containing element (by the looks of things). Has anyone ever experienced this before? Of course, the good guys (Firefox/Safari/etc) display it perfectly. How do I fix this? Thanks UPDATE Should I just got with a new Lightbox?

  • Showing div based on filled form field

    - by Fabio
    I have this script where I use a slider to show some elements of a form. So far so good. The way I'm doing it is by having a slider (can't use a multistep form since it uses a plugin not allowing multistep forms, plus some graphic behaviors) and a button that goes to the next slider. So now I need that button (not part of the form) to show only if a certain field is filled. I tried teh following, but it's not working, I assume some error but can't figure what. My code is as follows: $('#clientname').change(function() { var clientVal = $("input").val() == ''; $(".next").hide(); if ($('#clientname').val() != '').show(); else $('.next').hide(); }); and the html as follows: <div class="b40-right"> <h3>The Basics</h3> <div class="label"> Your Name (required)</div> <div class="inputes"> <span class="wpcf7-form-control-wrap your-name"><input id="clientname" type="text" name="your-name" value="" class="wpcf7-form-control wpcf7-text wpcf7-validates-as-required" size="40" /></span> </div> <div class="label">Your Email (required)</div> <div class="inputes"> <span class="wpcf7-form-control-wrap your-email"><input type="text" name="your-email" value="" class="wpcf7-form-control wpcf7-text wpcf7-email wpcf7-validates-as-required wpcf7-validates-as-email" size="40" /></span> </div> <div class="label">Type of Business</div> <div class="inputes"> <span class="wpcf7-form-control-wrap type-of-business"><textarea name="type-of-business" class="wpcf7-form-control wpcf7-textarea" cols="40" rows="10"></textarea></span> </div> </div> <a class="next" href="javascript:stepcarousel.stepBy('mygallery2', 1)"><img id="nextbut1" src="<?php bloginfo('template_directory'); ?>/images/next.png" alt="" /></a> any help on what am I doing wrong? Is there a better approach/solution? (I'm not a programmer as you may figure) Thank you in advance!

  • Using $.getJSON to perform cross domain request problem.

    - by Ahmed
    I'm using the following code to make cross domain request using $.getJSON, request completed but with errors, I cannot exactly detect what is the thrown error. Based on callback param of request value I route it to a certain method which retrieves required JSON data. $.getJSON("http://wthsrvr:45452/Handler.ashx/?Callback=DocumentReadStatus", { userID: vuserID, documentID: vdocumentID, format: "json" }, function(result) { if (result.readStatus == '1') { alert("ACCEPTED"); } else if (result.readStatus == '0') { alert("NOT ACCEPTED"); } else { alert(result.readStatus); } }); FYI: while development of this locally, everything worked fine, but after solution deployment to server and trying to do the same, I got that problem. Also, I tried the same functionality with web service, I got the same problem while calling web service from server. I'm using ajaxSetup to detect thrown errors. $.ajaxSetup({ "error": function(XMLHttpRequest, textStatus, errorThrown) { alert("textStatus: " + textStatus); alert("errorThrown: " + errorThrown); alert("responseText: " + XMLHttpRequest.responseText); } });

  • Dependent Dropdowns with single class element

    - by AJ
    I am trying to create multiple dependent dropdowns (selects) with a unique way. I want to restrict the use of selectors and want to achieve this by using a single class selectors on all SELECTs; by figuring out the SELECT that was changed by its index. Hence, the SELECT[i] that changed will change the SELECT[i+1] only (and not the previous ones like SELECT[i-1]). For html like this: <select class="someclass"> <option value="volvo">Volvo</option> <option value="saab">Saab</option> <option value="mercedes">Mercedes</option> <option value="audi">Audi</option> </select> <select class="someclass"> </select> <select class="someclass"> </select> where the SELECTs other than the first one will get something via AJAX. I see that the following Javascript gives me correct value of the correct SELECT and the value of i also corresponds to the correct SELECT. $(function() { $(".someclass").each(function(i) { $(this).change(function(x) { alert($(this).val() + i); }); }); }); Please note that I really want the minimum selector approach. I just cannot wrap my head around on how to approach this. Should I use Arrays? Like store all the SELECTS in an Array first and then select those? I believe that since the above code already passes the index i, there should be a way without Arrays also. Thanks a bunch. AJ

  • Will dynamicaly generated content via Javascript hurt SEO

    - by Luke101
    This is what I would like to do. I would like to load content dynamically. Everything except the actual content will be rendered by javascript. I will place all the require information in a javascript variable or array at the bottom of the page. Then I will use javascript to place the content in the designated area. These are the types of things I would like javascript to render: Login menu Header and logo info Side bar info Footer info Dialog popups Ads All of the MEAT content will not be rendered by javascript. I will use the backend server to put the content in html. My logic is that more of the real content will be in HTML and all the other things will be rendered by javascript. Will this help or hurt SEO?

  • What's faster to parse lots of data (5Mb): eval or json?

    - by AlfaTeK
    I want to get, via ajax, a collection of data objects and parse them into JS data. Currently I have 2 choices: - Server returns valid javascript code and then I eval it. - Server returns JSON object and then I eval the json object What is the fastest of these in Firefox? (I only care about the "parsing" performance, not server or data transfer)
