I have three tables : ( EAV model style) 1: Items ( ItemId, ItemName) 2: Fields (FieldId, FieldName) 3: Field Values ( ItemID, FieldId, Value) Can you tell me how to write SINGLE query to get starting 20 records from ALL items where FieldId=4 is equal to TRUE. Expected Result : Columns = ItemID | Name | Field1 | Field2 | Field3 Each Row= ItemId | ItemName| Value1 | Value2 | Value3 Important concerns : 1: Number of fields per item are not known 2: I need one to write ONE query. 3: Query will be running on 100K records, so performance is concern. 4: I am using MySQL 5.0, so need solution for MYSQL Should I denormalize the tables if above query is not possible at all ? Any advice ?

The structure is more or less as follows: Master table: MasterID, DetailID, date, ... masterID1, detailID1, 2010/5/1, .... masterID2, detailID1, 2008/6/14, ... masterID3, detailID1, 2009/5/25, ... masterID4, detailID2, 2008/7/24, ... masterID5, detailID2, 2010/4/1, ... masterID6, detailID4, 2008/9/16, ... Details table: DetailID, ... detailID1, ... detailID2, ... detailID3, ... detailID4, ... I need to get all the records from the details table plus the LAST record from the master table (last by the date in the master table). Like this: detailID1, masterID1, 2010/5/1, .... detailID2, masterID5, 2010/4/1, ... detailID3, null, null, ... detailID4, masterID6, 2008/9/16, ... I have no idea how to do this. Can anybody help me? But when posting, something happens, and my model is considered invalid, and it cannot insert.   • Composite Views and View Controllers

    Hi, I'm somewhat new to Android and am in the process of designing an application with a couple fairly complex views. One of the views is intended to involve a complex view displaying information associated with model objects and segregated into several different views; the navigation of which is meant to be achieved using sliding effects (i.e. sliding one's finger across the screen to traverse from one screen to the next, etc). The view itself will be used to host multiple sets of views for varying types of model objects, but with a general structure that is reused between them all. As a rough example, the view might come up to display information about a person (the model object), displaying several details views: a view for general information, a view displaying a list of hobbies, and a view displaying a list of other individuals associated with their social network. The same general view, when given a model object representing a particular car would give several different views: A general view with details, A view containing photo images for that vehicle, a view representing locations which it could be purchased from, and a view providing a list of related cars. (NOTE: This is not the real data involved, but is representative of the general intent for the view). The subviews will NOT cover the entire screen real-estate and other features within the view should be both visible and able to be interacted with by the user. The idea here is that there is a general view structure that is reusable and which will manage a set of subviews dynamically generated based upon the type of model object handed to the view. I'm trying to determine the appropriate way to leverage the Android framework in order to best achieve this without violating the integrity of the framework. Basically, I'm trying to determine how to componentize this larger view into reusable units (i.e. general view, model-specific sub-view controllers, and individual detail views). To be more specific, I'm trying to determine if this view is best designed as a composite of several custom View classes or a composite of several Activity classes. I've seen several examples of custom composite views, but they typically are used to compose simple views without complex controllers and without attention to the general Activity lifecycle (i.e. storing and retrieving data related to the model objects, as appropriate). On the other hand, the only real example I've seen regarding a view comprised of a composite of Activities is the TabActivity itself, and that isn't customizable in the fashion that would be necessary for this. Does anyone have any suggestions as to the appropriate way to structure my view to achieve the application framework I'm looking for? Views? Activities? Something else? Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Hello , I have a problem about streaming my video to server in real-time from my phone. that is , let my phone be a IP Camera , and server can watch the live video from my phone I have googled many many solutions, but there is no one can solve my problem. I use MediaRecorder to record . it can save video file in the SD card correctly. then , I refered this page and used some method as followings skt = new Socket(InetAddress.getByName(hostname),port); pfd =ParcelFileDescriptor.fromSocket(skt); mediaRecorder.setOutputFile(pfd.getFileDescriptor()); now it seems I can send the video stream while recording however, I wrote a receiver-side program to receive the video stream from Android , but it doesn't work . is there any error? I can receive file , but I can not open the video file .   • Monitor database table for external changes from within Rails application

    I'm integrating some non-rails-model tables in my Rails application. Everything works out very nicely, the way I set up the model is: class Change < ActiveRecord::Base establish_connection(ActiveRecord::Base.configurations["otherdb_#{RAILS_ENV}"]) set_table_name "change" end This way I can use the Change model for all existing records with find etc. Now I'd like to run some sort of notification, when a record is added to the table. Since the model never gets created via Change.new and Change.save using ActiveRecord::Observer is not an option. Is there any way I can get some of my Rails code to be executed, whenever a new record is added? I looked at delayed_job but can't quite get my head around, how to set that up. I imagine it evolves around a cron-job, that selects all rows that where created since the job last ran and then calls the respective Rails code for each row.

    I have some NSString varibales that incude items like Ð and Õ and if I do cell.textLabel.text = person.name; and if it contains one of those characters the cell.textlabel is blank! I have discovered that if I use NSString *col1 = [NSString stringWithUTF8String:(char *)sqlite3_column_text(compiledStatement, 0)]; To pull my data back it pulls back null, however using the deprectared method NSString *col1 = [NSString stringWithCString:(char *)sqlite3_column_text(compiledStatement, 0)]; Shows the characters! Any ideas?

  • Rails: Display Maintenance Page if No Database Connection Available

    I'm looking for a solution that will allow my rails app to render a user-friendly maintenance page when there is no Mysql server available to connect to. Normally a Mysql::Error is thrown from the mysql connection adapter in active_record. Something like: /!\ FAILSAFE /!\ Wed May 26 11:40:14 -0700 2010 Status: 500 Internal Server Error Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' Is there a low-overhead way to catch this error and render a maintenance page instead? I'm assuming that since connections are actually made in the active_record mysql adapter the app never makes it to the controller stack before it throws the error, so you can't catch it in a controller. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
