• Silverlight Question: How can I find the DataTemplate corresponding to an item in a ListBox

  I have two classes A & B, and a listbox. I assign listBox.ItemsSource equal to a collection of objects of type A. The listbox items are visualized using silverlight data templating, see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.windows.datatemplate.aspx and http://www.codeproject.com/KB/WPF/UserControlAsDataTemplate.aspx for example. The listbox.ItemTemplate is a DataTemplate that uses class B to visualize the listbox items. Now, in my code-behind, inside any method of class B, if I do this.DataContext, it points to an object of type A. Thus, given an object of type B, I can find the corresponding object of type A. So far so good. My question is, given an object of type A, how can I navigate to the corresponding object of type B? Is this even possible in SL?

• Split text files Accross threads

  The problem: I have a few text files (10) with numbers in them on every line. I need to have them split across some threads I create using the pthread library. these threads that are created (worker threads) are to find the largest prime number that gets sent to them (and over all the largest prime from all of the text files). My current thoughts on solutions: I am thinking myself to have two arrays and all of the text files in one array and the other array will contain a binary file that I can read say 1000 lines and send the pointer to the index of that binary file in a struct that contains the id, file pointer, and file position and let it crank through that. a little bit of what I am talking about pthread_create(&threads[index],NULL,calc_sqrt,(void *)threadFields[index]);//Pass struct to each worker Struct: typedef struct threadFields{ int *id, *position; FILE *Fin; }tField; If anyone has any insight or a better solution it would be greatly appreciated Thanks

• Why does OSX document atoi/atof as not being threadsafe?

  I understand that strtol and strtof are preferred to atoi/atof, since the former detect errors, and also strtol is much more flexible than atoi when it comes to non-base-10. But I'm still curious about something: 'man atoi' (or atof) on OS X (though not on Linux!) mentions that atoi/atof are not threadsafe. I frankly have a hard time imagining a possible implementation of atoi or atof that would not be threadsafe. Does anybody know why the man page says this? Are these functions actually unsafe on OS X or any other platform? And if they are, why on earth wouldn't the library just define atoi in terms of strtol, and therefore be safe?

• Managed HttpListener vs C++ Network Lib - Requires admin rights?

  So, I have noticed that starting an HttpListener is considered impolite according to Win 7. I cannot do so without administrative rights without adding myself to some URL reservation list. In theory, this is alright, but I'd like to make my program as little invasive as possible. My main other alternative is something like the c++ Network Library, which utilizes boost. This is probably not as simple as a HttpListener though. Will this circumvent the admin rights requirement for listening to some HTTP url? How does windows handle http listening? Right now I'm just listening to http://+:xxxx/url, I guess it's fully possible to just create a Socket listening at port xxxx and provide my own/third party http implementation?

Running it in new thread and stopping it seems to be wrong way. HttpMethodBase has abort() method, but I can't understand how to use it because client.executeMethod blocks execution until it complets

• Should the name of my classes begin with 'Q' in Qt?

  Hello Everyone, When I first started working with Qt, it was extremely annoying that every class has a name beginning with 'Q', but now I've got used to it. I'm using Qt Creator, and it highlights code quite well. However, it only highlights class names beginning with 'Q'. And it highlights everything beginning with 'Q' even if there is no such type. It doesn't highlight custom class names. That makes me wonder, should I also begin all my class names with 'Q'? Or at least the reusable ones? (I mean, those that I put in a class library, or reuse in another app.) I've seen several places where they named their classes this way. Is it a good thing? I found this page about Qt's naming conventions, but it doesn't deal with this question. Also, I don't understand why Qt doesn't use namespaces.

• Can I use a string variable to reference a class variable?

  Here's the scenario: I have an external swf file with x number of movieclips in its library that I load into a containing swf. • C++ Word-Number to int

  I'm developing a program that makes basic calculations using words instead of numbers. E.g. five + two would output seven. The program becomes more complex, taking input such as two_hundred_one + five_thousand_six (201 + 5006) Through operator overloading methods, I split each number and assign it to it's own array index. two would be [0], hundred is [1], and one is [2]. Then the array recycles for 5006. My problem is, to perform the actual calculation, I need to convert the words stored in the array to actual integers. I have const string arrays such as this as a library of the words: const string units[] = { "", "one", "two", "three", "four", "five", "six", "seven", "eight", "nine" }; const string teens[] = { "ten", "eleven", "twelve", "thirteen", "fourteen", "fifteen", "sixteen", "seventeen", "eighteen", "nineteen" }; const string tens[] = { "", "", "twenty", "thirty", "forty", "fifty", "sixty", "seventy", "eighty", "ninety" }; If my 'token' array has stored in it two hundred one in index 0, 1, and 2, I'm not sure what the best way to convert these to ints would involve.

I should call functions like similar to "Library.GetBoutiqueDetail();" So my question is simple, how can I refactor that code to remove these if-else sections ?

• Android sending SOAP object over Https via ksoap2 2.5.8

  My first time posting a question here so please do not mind my mistakes here. I'm currently making an android application fetching and sending information from a .asmx web service. Everything goes well with the ksoap2 library and am using HttpTransportSE to call the web service. So now what I'm trying to do is to use the HttpsTransportSE to call the web service over Https. I got java.security.cert.certpathvalidatorexception trustanchor for certpath not found exception. I have the server certificate in .pfx , .jks and .bks format. My questions is what do i do with it to make my HttpsTransportSE call to be success? I've read around with articles using custom SSLSocketFactory but am still not sure how to implement it in my application. Thanks in advance for any suggestion/advices

• How does one record audio from a Javascript based webapp?

  I'm trying to write a web-app that records WAV files (eg: from the user's microphone). I know Javascript alone can not do this, but I'm interested in the least proprietary method to augment my Javascript with. My targeted browsers are Firefox for PC and Mac (so no ActiveX). Please share your experiences with this. I gather it can be done with Flash (but not as a WAV formated file). I gather it can be done with Java (but not without code-signing). Are these the only options? @dominic-mazzoni I'd like to record the file as a WAV because because the purpose of the webapp will be to assemble a library of good quality short soundbites. I estimate upload will be 50 MB, which is well worth it for the quality. The app will only be used on our intranet. • What SQL ORM may i use to replace this old code

  Sorry since this question is specific to my problem. While learning reflections i did a mini SQL ORM in a week then minor tweaks while using it for another week. Since it has very little work put into it, its really only compatibility with sqlite. I havent had problems with the code so far but i would like to port it to something that supports TSQL or MySql. The example code is here which is outdated but has the most used functions in my class. What library can i port that code over too with the smallest about of pain. Note that it must support foreign keys.

• Why are there two implementations of std::sort (with and without a comparator) rather than one implementation with a default template parameter?

  In my code I'm adopting a design strategy which is similar to some standard library algorithms in that the exact behavior can be customized by a function object. The simplest example is std::sort, where a function object can control how the comparison is made between objects. I notice that the Visual C++ provides two implementations of std::sort, which naturally involves code duplication. I would have imagined that it was instead possible to have only one implementation, and provide a default comparator (using operator< ) as a default template parameter. What is the rational behind two separate versions? Would my suggestion make the interface more complex in some way? Or result in confusing error messages when the object does not provide operator Thanks, David

  There are next to no noob guides to crypto++ out there. Or none that I've found anyway. What I want to do is decrypt an array of uchars I generate with another AES encrypter. Where would I start? I have the library built and linking grand. Do I need to set anything up or do I just call a function on my array (and if so what function) ?   Hi, I've stumbled in a problem handling the \line-feed and \carriage-return characters in xml. I know that, according to http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-xml/#sec-line-ends, xml processors are required to replace any "\n\r" or lone "\r" sequences with "\n". The specification states that this has to be the behaviour for handling any "external parsed entity", does this apply to CDATA sections inside of an element as well? thank you, Michele I'm sure that msxml library for example converts every \n\r" or lone "\r" sequences to "\n", regardless of their being in a cdata section or not.

• C# Elegant way to handle checking for an item in a collection.

  I've posted a code sample below. Firstly let me explain termStore.Groups in the code below is a collection of Group Objects (The exact class is irrelevant). Checking for null : if (termStore.Groups[groupName] == null) seems like a logical (clean) approach, but if the Groups collection is empty then an exception is produced. using the termStore.Groups.Contains is not an option either because this expects a strong type i.e: .Contains(Group)... not .Contains(GroupName as string) Can someone recommend a clean / generic way I can check for if an item exists in collection . If I'm putting the View inside a UINavigationController the UIImageView won't display the image after taking one with the camera. But if I choose a picture from the library everything is fine again. So why does the UIImageView won't display a image taken with the camera inside a UINavigationController?

• Why does Visual Studio's "Unused References..." button not flag System.Xml and System.Xml.Linq?

  I was trying to finish up a VB.NET class library project when I tried to remove all unused references. I know for a fact that I'm not explicitly using any thing from the System.Xml and System.Xml.Linq assemblies yet the "Unused References..." button never flags them for removal. In fact I even tried "Unused References..." on a blank project and it still never flagged them. The only reason I could think of is that either mscorlib.dll or System.dll is using System.Xml.dll or System.Xml.Linq.dll. Are they safe to remove?

  HI All I need to write a scientific application in C++ doing a lot of computations and using a lot of memory. I have part of the job but due to high requirements in terms of resources I was thinking to start moving to OpenMPI. Before doing that I have a simple curiosity: If I understood the principle of OpenMPI is the developer that has the task of splitting the jobs over different nodes calling SEND and RECEIVE based on node available at that time. Do you know if it does exist some library or OS or whatever that has this capability letting my code reamain as it is now? Basically something that connects all computers and let share as one their memory and CPU? I am a bit confused because of the high material available on the topic. Should I look at cloud computing? or Distributed Shared Memory? Can you help me or address me a bit? Thanks

• How to I get raw 'mouse' events with touch screens on Windows Vista/7?

  Does anyone have a clue how to completely disable the touch/tablet 'magic' introduced in Windows Vista? When I follow the steps on http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb969148(VS.85).aspx (both SetProp disable and WM_TABLET_QUERYSYSTEMGESTURESTATUS override) I succeed in stopping windows from treating press-and-hold as a right-click (it correctly gives me a WM_LBUTTONDOWN), but it also gives me a premature WM_LBUTTONUP (before I really let go of the screen). And there is also another problem: a click followed by a drag (down, up, down, move) is treated as a double-click (down, up, down, up, move). These issues occur with two very different touch screens (so it is not a hardware problem), and it never used to happen with Windows XP. This really bugs me. I would much rather have the raw input events like you have for normal mouse clicks. Any ideas?

  Hi, I am using the Apache HTTPClient for Java and I'm facing a really strange issue. Sometimes when I try to get a dynamically generated page it returns its actual content, but other times (with another parameter) all I get is a short sequence of \t,\r and \n. How could I track what's going on on the different cases in order to find where is the bug? • How to get information about a Windows executable (.exe) using C++

  Hi, I have to create a software that will scan several directories and extracts information about the executables found. I need to do two things: Determine if a given file is an executable (.exe, .dll, and so on) - Checking the extension is probably not good enough. Get the information about this executable (the company name, the product name, and so on). I never did this before and thus am not aware if there is a Windows API (or lightweight C/C++ library) to do that or if it is even possible. I guess it is, because explorer.exe does it. Do you guys know anything that could point me in the right direction ? Thank you very much for your help.

• What is the best way to automated (integration) test with java with OpenId4Java against real OpenIdP

  I would like to do a bit more than manually test my openid glue code which happens to use the openid4java library. My goals would be to be able to run it within my IDE with a bunch of tests using Junit or similar. Selenium & tomcat I was thinking of using selenium and a tomcat but thats not exactly a nice approach as this is a bit heavy and not really lightweight. httpunit A solution with http-unit is incomplete because it doesnt really fit with the redirect to my openid provider, authenticate and redirect back. Perhaps i am wrong but this looks like it could get quite involved just to make sure this works. Mocks My last solution is to mock everything and assume thats its accurate and works. If google or yahoo ever change in some way, then ill have to verify manually. The approach is simple but with a major flaw.
