  • Force external function to be const

    - by vanna
    Here is my problem. I made a class with a member function declared as const that uses an external function that I cannot modify (declared in someone else's code) and that is not declared const. More precisely Someone else's code class B { public: void foo(); }; My code class A : public B { public: void bar() const { this->foo(); } }; I know that for member data we can force const-correctness by using mutable or const_cast. How can I 'hack' foo such that my compiler understands that I would like to use it as if it was const even if it is not declared in someone else's code ?

  • Building a wiki like data model in rails question.

    - by lillq
    I have a data model in which I would like to have an item that has a description that can be edited. I would like to also keep track of all edits to the item. I am running into issues with my current strategy, which is: class Item < ActiveRecord::Base has_one :current_edit, :class_name => "Edit", :foreign_key => "current_edit_id" has_many :edits end class Edit < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :item end Can the Item have multiple associations to the same class like this? I was thinking that I should switch to keeping track of the edit version in the Edit object and then just sorting the has_many relationship base on this version.

  • Hibernate/JPA - annotating bean methods vs fields

    - by Benju
    I have a simple question about usage of Hibernate. I keep seeing people using JPA annotations in one of two ways by annotating the fields of a class and also by annotating the get method on the corresponding beans. My question is as follows: Is there a difference between annotating fields and bean methods with JPA annoations such as @Id. example: @Entity public class User { **@ID** private int id; public int getId(){ return this.id; } public void setId(int id){ this.id=id; } } -----------OR----------- @Entity public class User { private int id; **@ID** public int getId(){ return this.id; } public void setId(int id){ this.id=id; } }

  • Is there performance to be gained by moving storage allocation local to a member function to its cla

    - by neuviemeporte
    Suppose I have the following C++ class: class Foo { double bar(double sth); }; double Foo::bar(double sth) { double a,b,c,d,e,f a = b = c = d = e = f = 0; /* do stuff with a..f and sth */ } The function bar() will be called millions of times in a loop. Obviously, each time it's called, the variables a..f have to be allocated. Will I gain any performance by making the variables a..f members of the Foo class and just initializing them at the function's point of entry? On the other hand, the values of a..f will be dereferenced through this-, so I'm wondering if it isn't actually a possible performance degradation. Is there any overhead to accessing a value through a pointer? Thanks!

  • How to specify a different column for a @Inheritance JPA annotation

    - by Cue
    @Entity @Inheritance(strategy = InheritanceType.JOINED) public class Foo @Entity @Inheritance(strategy = InheritanceType.JOINED) public class BarFoo extends Foo mysql> desc foo; +---------------+-------------+ | Field | Type | +---------------+-------------+ | id | int | +---------------+-------------+ mysql> desc barfoo; +---------------+-------------+ | Field | Type | +---------------+-------------+ | id | int | | foo_id | int | | bar_id | int | +---------------+-------------+ mysql> desc bar; +---------------+-------------+ | Field | Type | +---------------+-------------+ | id | int | +---------------+-------------+ Is it possible to specify column barfo.foo_id as the joined column? Are you allowed to specify barfoo.id as BarFoo's @Id since you are overriding the getter/seeter of class Foo? I understand the schematics behind this relationship (or at least I think I do) and I'm ok with them. The reason I want an explicit id field for BarFoo is exactly because I want to avoid using a joined key (foo _id, bar _id) when querying for BarFoo(s) or when used in a "stronger" constraint. (as Ruben put it)

  • Show Alertdialog and use vibrator

    - by user1007522
    I'm having a class that implements RecognitionListener like this: public class listener implements RecognitionListener I wanted to show a alertdialog and use the vibrator but this isn't possible because I need to provide a context what I don't have. My alertdialog code was like this: new AlertDialog.Builder(this) .setTitle("dd") .setMessage("aa") .setNeutralButton("Ok", new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int which) { } }) .show(); But the AlertDialog.Builder(this) wants a context, the same problem with my vibrator code: v = (Vibrator) getSystemService(Context.VIBRATOR_SERVICE); The getSystemService method isn't available. My code that starts the class: sr = SpeechRecognizer.createSpeechRecognizer(this); sr.setRecognitionListener(new listener()); Intent intent = new Intent(RecognizerIntent.ACTION_RECOGNIZE_SPEECH); intent.putExtra(RecognizerIntent.EXTRA_LANGUAGE_MODEL,RecognizerIntent.LANGUAGE_MODEL_FREE_FORM); intent.putExtra(RecognizerIntent.EXTRA_CALLING_PACKAGE,"voice.recognition.test"); intent.putExtra(RecognizerIntent.EXTRA_MAX_RESULTS,5); sr.startListening(intent); Whats the best way to solve this?

  • Databinding in windows forms on an object graph with possible null properties?

    - by Fredrik
    If I have an object graph like this: class Company { public Address MainAddress {...} } class Address { public string City { ... } } Company c = new Company(); c.MainAddress = new Address(); c.MainAddress.City = "Stockholm"; and databind to a control using: textBox1.DataBinding.Add( "Text", c, "MainAddress.City" ); Everything is fine, but If I bind to: Company c2 = new Company(); c2 using the same syntax it crashes since the MainAddress property is null. I wonder if there is a custom Binding class that can set up listeners for all the possible paths here and bind to the actual object dynamically when/if I sometime later in the application set the MainAddress property.

  • Any way to access the type of a Scala Option declaration at runtime using reflection?

    - by Graham Lea
    So, I have a Scala class that looks like this: class TestClass { var value: Option[Int] = None } and I'm tackling a problem where I have a String value and I want to coerce it into that Option[Int] at runtime using reflection. To do so, I need to know that the field is an Option and that the type parameter of the Option is Int. What are my options for figuring out that the type of 'value' is Option[Int] at runtime (i.e. using reflection)? I have seen similar problems solved by annotating the field, e.g. @OptionType(Int.class). I'd prefer a solution that didn't require annotations on the reflection target if possible.

  • In datastore, confused on how to pass a list of key_names as an argument to somemodel.get_or_insert(

    - by indiehacker
    Are there examples of how to pass a list of key_names to Model.get_or_insert() ? My Problem: With a method of ParentLayer I want to make the children. The key_names of the new (or editable) entities of class Child will come from such a list below: namesList = ["picture1","picture2"] so I should be able to build a list of key_names with method from the parent class as follows: class ParentLayer(db.Model): def getOrMakeChildren(self, namesList): keyslist = [ db.Key.from_path( 'Child' , name , parent = self.key() ) for name in namesList ] the problem is next where I simply want to get_or_insert entities based on keylist defined above: childrenEntitiesList = Child.get_or_insert(keyslist) # no works? also none of the below attempts worked: #childrenEntitiesList = Child.get_or_insert(keyslist, parent = u'TEST') #childrenEntitiesList = Child.get_or_insert(keyslist, parent=self.key().name() ) #childrenEntitiesList = Child.get_or_insert(keyslist, parent=self.key()

  • Clean Method for a ModelForm in a ModelFormSet made by modelformset_factory

    - by Salyangoz
    I was wondering if my approach is right or not. Assuming the Restaurant model has only a name. forms.py class BaseRestaurantOpinionForm(forms.ModelForm): opinion = forms.ChoiceField(choices=(('yes', 'yes'), ('no', 'no'), ('meh', 'meh')), required=False, )) class Meta: model = Restaurant fields = ['opinion'] views.py class RestaurantVoteListView(ListView): queryset = Restaurant.objects.all() template_name = "restaurants/list.html" def dispatch(self, request, *args, **kwargs): if request.POST: queryset = self.request.POST.dict() #clean here return HttpResponse(json.dumps(queryset), content_type="application/json") def get_context_data(self, **kwargs): context = super(EligibleRestaurantsListView, self).get_context_data(**kwargs) RestaurantFormSet = modelformset_factory( Restaurant,form=BaseRestaurantOpinionForm ) extra_context = { 'eligible_restaurants' : self.get_eligible_restaurants(), 'forms' : RestaurantFormSet(), } context.update(extra_context) return context Basically I'll be getting 3 voting buttons for each restaurant and then I want to read the votes. I was wondering from where/which clean function do I need to call to get something like: { ('3' : 'yes'), ('2' : 'no') } #{ 'restaurant_id' : 'vote' } This is my second/third question so tell me if I'm being unclear. Thanks.

  • How do I prevent JDialog from showing in gnome-panel(Linux)?

    - by aeter
    I have a class: public class ANote extends JDialog{...} In GNOME(Linux) it shows an entry in the gnome-panel. I want it to show nothing (the same way it does in the taskbar in Windows), because there may be present several instances of the class simultaneously, and this overcrowds the gnome-panel. How do I prevent it from showing an instance in the gnome-panel? EDIT: So far I have tried playing with the modality, which hides it from the gnome-panel, but blocks the main frame of the application behind the ANote instances.

  • How to build the ViewModel in MVVM not to violate the Single Responsibility Principle?

    - by Przemek
    Robert Martin says: "There should never be more than one reason for a class to change". Let's consider the ViewModel class which is bound to a View. It is possible (or even probable) that the ViewModel consists of properties that are not really related to each other. For small views the ViewModel may be quite coherent, but while the application gets more complex the ViewModel will expose data that will be subject to change for different and unrelated reasons. Should we worry about the SRP principle in the case of ViewModel class or not?

  • Question regarding C++ Templates

    - by Isuru
    I used a simple class for a test program about templates, this is what I did: template <typename T> class test { public: test<T>::test(); T out(); }; template <typename T> test<T>::test() { } T test<T>::out() { } int main() { //test<int> t; } But when I try to compile it says 'T' : undeclared identifier and use of class template requires template argument list , pointing to the same line, where I have implemented the method out() . Can anyone please explain what the problem is?? I'm using visual studio 2008.

  • Is it possible to group validation?

    - by lambdabutz
    I am using a lot of my own validation methods to compare the data from one association to the other. I've noticed that I'm constantly checking that my associations aren't nil before trying to call anything on them, but I am also validating their presence, and so I feel that my nil checks are redundant. Here's an example: class House < ActiveRecord::Base has_one :enterance, :class => Door has_one :exit, :class => Door validates_presence_of :enterance, :exit validate :not_a_fire_hazard def not_a_fire_hazard if enterance && exit && enterance.location != exit.location errors.add_to_base('If there is a fire you will most likely die') return false end end end I feel like I am repeating myself by checking the existence of enterance and exit within my own validation. Is there a more "The Rails Way" to do this?

  • Accessing a Clip Inside Another Clip in a Loaded SWF-File

    - by Anders
    I'm writing a card game in AS3. The artist I'm working with has produced (in Flash CS4) a single swf-file containing all the card graphics and animations. The structure of the fla working file looks something like this: - Scene - CardGraphics (Movie Clip) - CardFront - CardBack - CardValueImage (Movie Clip) ... In the program I create 52 instances of my Card class, each having a MovieClip instance created from the loaded swf. The idea is to set the frame of the CardValueImage MovieClip to correspond to the Card instance's suit and rank member variables. However, I can't figure out how I access CardValueImage and call gotoAndStop (or whatever method I will need to call). This is basically what I want to do: // Card Class [Embed(source = 'CardGraphics.swf')] private static var CardsClip:Class; private var clip:MovieClip = new CardsClip; // Card Constructor this.valueImageFrame = suit * 13 + rank; // Calculate which frame contains the // graphical representation of this card this.clip.CardValueImage.gotoAndStop(valueImageFrame);

  • java/Swing issue with paintComponent

    - by user310254
    The issue I'm having is issue with is I'm trying to get the paintComponent to draw the circle only when the mouse is clicked, dragged, then let go. However inside my paintPanel class I have to initialize the object I've created (ex. movedCircle myCircle = new movedCircle(0,0,0,0);) just creating the object movedCircle myCircle; gives an error until I actually fully initialize the object with a value. What I'm looking for: What's considered the best practice for this issue. I don't want to draw anything unnecessary before it is needed. The way I know how to fix it: boolean values inside of paintComponent so that way it doesn't draw until somethings actually there. import javax.swing.*; import java.awt.*; import java.awt.event.*; public class drawCircle extends JFrame{ private JPanel myPanel = new paintPanel(); public drawCircle(){ add(myPanel); } private class paintPanel extends JPanel{ private int x1, y1, x2, y2; movedText myText = new movedText(0,0,0,0); movedCircle myCircle = new movedCircle(0,0,0,0); public paintPanel(){ addMouseListener(new MouseAdapter(){ public void mousePressed(MouseEvent e){ x1 = e.getX(); y1 = e.getY(); myCircle = new movedCircle(x1, y1, 0, 0); repaint(); } public void mouseReleased(MouseEvent e){ x2 = e.getX(); y2 = e.getY(); myCircle = new movedCircle(x1, y1, x2, y2); repaint(); } }); addMouseMotionListener(new MouseMotionAdapter(){ public void mouseDragged(MouseEvent e){ x2 = e.getX(); y2 = e.getY(); myText = new movedText(x1, y1, x2, y2); myCircle = new movedCircle(x1, y1, x2, y2); repaint(); } public void mouseMoved(MouseEvent e){ x1 = e.getX(); y1 = e.getY(); x2 = 0; y2 = 0; myText = new movedText(x1, y1, x2, y2); repaint(); } }); } protected void paintComponent(Graphics g){ super.paintComponent(g); //draw oval after mouse released myText.paintText(g); myCircle.paintCircle(g); } } class movedCircle{ private int x1, y1, x2, y2; public movedCircle(int x1, int y1, int x2, int y2){ this.x1 = x1; this.y1 = y1; this.x2 = x2; this.y2 = y2; } public void paintCircle(Graphics g){ g.drawOval(x1, y1, x2 - x1, y2 - y1); } } class movedText{ private int x1, y1, x2, y2; public movedText(int x1, int y1, int x2, int y2){ this.x1 = x1; this.y1 = y1; this.x2 = x2; this.y2 = y2; } public void paintText(Graphics g){ g.drawString("x1: "+x1+" y1: "+y1+" x2: "+x2+" y2: "+y2, x1, y1); } } class RedSquare{ private int xPos = 50; private int yPos = 50; private int width = 20; private int height = 20; public void setX(int xPos){ this.xPos = xPos; } public int getX(){ return xPos; } public void setY(int yPos){ this.yPos = yPos; } public int getY(){ return yPos; } public int getWidth(){ return width; } public int getHeight(){ return height; } public void paintSquare(Graphics g){ g.setColor(Color.RED); g.fillRect(xPos,yPos,width,height); g.setColor(Color.BLACK); g.drawRect(xPos,yPos,width,height); } } public static void main(String[] args){ JFrame frame = new drawCircle(); frame.setTitle("Is in ellipse? Now I have to add one more class which returns Set<Some Object> public class X implements testMe() { public Set<Some OBject> doSomething() { } } How could i add this mehtod in the interface without breaking existing classes? Thanks Nayn

  • Is it good practice to put private API in the .m files and public API in .h files in Cocoa?

    - by Paperflyer
    Many of my classes in my current project have several properties and methods that are only ever called from within the class itself. Also, they might mess with the working of the class depending on the current state of the class. Currently, all these interfaces are defined in the main interface declaration in the .h files. Is it considered good practice to put the “private” methods and properties at the top of the .m files? This won't ever affect anything since I am very likely the only person ever to look at this source code, but of course it would be interesting to know for future projects.

  • Override .Net Resource file in Calling Application

    - by Blatfrig
    I have an asp.net 2.0 web application that is calling class library. A fairly common scenario to be sure. The class library is making use of a number of resource files and a ResourceManager object to set localised strings. This works absolutely fine in most circumstances based on the user's browser settings. However there are some circumstances under which I wish to overrride the resource string in the class library from within the web application. Is this possible? if so how?

  • How to implement arrays in an interpreter?

    - by Ray
    I have managed to write several interpreters including Tokenizing Parsing, including more complicated expressions such as ((x+y)*z)/2 Building bytecode from syntax trees Actual bytecode execution What I didn't manage: Implementation of dictionaries/lists/arrays. I always got stuck with getting multiple values into one variable. My value structure (used for all values passed around, including variables) looks like this, for example: class Value { public: ValueType type; int integerValue; string stringValue; } Works fine with integers and strings, but how could I implement arrays? (From now on with array I mean arrays in my experimental language, not in C++) How can I fit the array concept into the Value class above? Is it possible? How should I make arrays able to be passed around just as you could pass around integers and strings in my language, using the class above? Accessing array elements or memory allocation wouldn't be the problem, I just don't know how to store them.

  • Access &lt;body element from content page via a nested master page

    - by danwellman
    All I want to do is access the <body element from the code-behind of a content page and add a class name to it. I have a top-level master page with the <body element in it. Then I have a nested master page which is the master page for the content page. From the code behind of the content page I want to add a class name to the body element. That's all. I have this in the top-level master: <body id="bodyNode" runat="server"> I added this to the code-behind for the content page: Master.bodyNode.Attributes.add("class", "home-page"); And I get a message that: System.Web.UI.MasterPage' does not contain a definition for 'bodyNode If I add this to the aspx content page: <% @ MasterType VirtualPath="~/MasterPage.master"%> The message then changes to: bodyNode is inaccessible due to its protection level Please advise, I've wasted like 2 hours on what feels like something that should be really simple to do :(

  • IntelliJ: Including jars in a jar artifact

    - by skiaddict1
    Developing on the Mac with IntelliJ 9.0.2. I have a program which depends on two library jars. I have figured out how to get IntelliJ to make me a jar of my source (with the Artifact tab), and even to include the two jars in it. However, if I get a listing of the jar file it produces, it looks like this: com/acme/MyClass1.class com/acme/MyClass2.class ... mylib1.jar myLib2.jar And, no surprises, if I double-click the jar file, it gets a NoClassDefFoundError the first time it tries to access a class in one or other library jar. How do I get IntelliJ to include the two library jars such that the classes are visible?

  • Importing Classes Within a Module

    - by CodeJoust
    Currently, I have a parser with multiple classes that work together. For Instance: TreeParser creates multiple Product and Reactant modules which in turn create multiple Element classes. The TreeParser is called by a render method within the same module, which is called from the importer. Currently, using the class name in the imported module file works only if the file calling the module contains from module_name import *, so the classes are imported into the main namespace. Finally, if the package has dependencies (such as re and another another module within the same folder), where is the best place to require those modules? Within the __init__.py file or within the module itself? I don't really want to add the module name in front of every call to the class, in case I do call import *, however, is it possible to use a variable name of the current module to call the class, or use a workaround in the __init__.py file? I'm probably used to the ruby require '' method instead of python's module system.
