  • Navigate with location.href during XMLHttpRequest asynchronous call

    - by OlduwanSteve
    I have a web page containing something like this: <div onclick="location.href = 'AnotherPage';"> This page also uses asynchronous XMLHttpRequests for some ajax updating. I have found that while an asynchronous XMLHttpRequest is in progress, clicking on this div does not load the new page. If I cancel my request first then it works fine. This seems wrong, but I cannot find any documentation that describes what should happen. So the question is: what should happen to asynchronous XMLHttpRequests in progress when a new page is loaded using location.href?

  • jQuery > Update inline script on form submission

    - by Andrew Kirk
    I am using the ChemDoodle Web Components to display molecules on a web page. Basically, I can just insert the following script in my page and it will create an HTML5 canvas element to display the molecule. <script> var transform1 = new TransformCanvas('transform1', 200, 200, true); transform1.specs.bonds_useJMOLColors = true; transform1.specs.bonds_width_2D = 3; transform1.specs.atoms_useJMOLColors = true; transform1.specs.atoms_circles_2D = true; transform1.specs.backgroundColor = 'black'; transform1.specs.bonds_clearOverlaps_2D = true; transform1.loadMolecule(readPDB(molecule)); </script> In this example, "molecule" is a variable that I have defined in an external script by using the jQuery.ajax() function to load a PDB file. This is all fine and good. Now, I would like to include a form on the page that will allow a user to paste in a PDB molecule definition. Upon submitting the form, I want to update the "molecule" variable with the form data so that the ChemDoodle Web Components script will work its magic and display molecule defined by the PDB definition pasted into the form. I am using the following jQuery code to process the the form submission. $(".button").click(function() { // validate and process form here //hide previous errors $('.error').hide(); //validate pdb textarea field var pdb = $("textarea#pdb").val(); if (pdb == "") { $("label#pdb_error").show(); $("textarea#pdb").focus(); return false; } molecule = pdb; }); This code is setting the "molecule" variable upon the form submission but it is not being passed back to the inline script as I had hoped. I have tried a number of variations on this but can't seem to get it right. Any clues as to where I might be going wrong would be much appreciated.

  • Event handler triggered twice instead of once

    - by kwokwai
    Hi all, I am sorry that I have asked two questions in a few minutes. In a html file, I got three child DIV tags in a parent DIV tag: <div id="container"> <div id="frag-123">123</div> <div id="frag-124">124</div> <div id="frag-125">125</div> </div> Now when I click either the three child DIV tags, I will see two alert boxes pop up instead of one: The first alert box will show something like this: frag-123, and the second alert box will show something like this: container I dont know why. I just want to get the ID value of a child DIV, not the one from the parent DIV. <script> $(function() { $("div").click(function() { var imgID = this.id; alert(imgID); }); }); </script> Please help.

  • Browser loading strategy, <head>...<body>

    - by Bin Chen
    I am inspecting some interesting behaviors of browser, I don't know it's in standard or not. If I put everythin inside <head></head>, the browser will only begin to render the page after all the resouces in head is retrieved. So I am thinking that put as little as possible things into head is one of the important website optimization techniques, is it right? My question is: If I put script/css in body or other parts of the html, how can I know that script has been loaded successfully so that I will not be calling a undefined function?

  • All site interaction through a single page

    - by Jacques Wolfghang
    Hi there I have an idea for a site where there would be no refreshing and all interactions take place via AJAX. The page would load with central space, where all interaction would take place. If a user clicked on a link, the page would request it via AJAX and replace the rectangle's content with the link content. The idea is effectively an AJAX implemented iframe. Are there any disadvantages with this approach? Does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts on the idea? Thank You for your time Note: I am sorry if it is not clear or hard to understand, English is not my mother tongue. If there is anything you would like made clearer, please comment and I will try my best to make it understood.

  • POST parameters strangely parsed inside phantomjs

    - by user61629
    I am working with PHP/CURL and would like to send POST data to my phantomjs script, by setting the postfields array below: In my php controller I have: $data=array('first' => 'John', 'last' => 'Smith'); $url='http://localhost:7788/'; $output = $this->my_model->get_data($url,$data); In my php model I have: public function get_data($url,$postFieldArray) { $ch = curl_init(); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_COOKIEJAR, $cookieFile); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_FOLLOWLOCATION, TRUE); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, TRUE); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_USERAGENT, "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 6.0)"); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POST, TRUE); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POSTFIELDS, $postFieldArray); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL, $url); $output = curl_exec($ch); In my phantomJS script that I am running locally I have: // import the webserver module, and create a server var server = require('webserver').create(); var port = require('system').env.PORT || 7788; console.log("Start Application"); console.log("Listen port " + port); // Create serever and listen port server.listen(port, function(request, response) { // Print some information Just for debbug console.log("We got some requset !!!"); console.log("request method: ", request.method); // request.method POST or GET if(request.method == 'POST' ){ console.log("POST params should be next: "); console.log("POST params: ",request.post); exit; } I first start and run the phantomjs script (myscript.js) from the command line, then I run my php script. The output is: $ phantomjs.exe myscript.js Start Application Listen port 7788 null We got some requset !!! request method: POST POST params should be next: POST params: ------------------------------e70d439800f9 Content-Disposition: form-data; name="first" John ------------------------------e70d439800f9 Content-Disposition: form-data; name="last" Smith ------------------------------e70d439800f9-- I'm confused about the the output. I was expecting something more like: first' => 'John', 'last' => 'Smith Can someone explain why it looks this way? How can I parse the request.post object to assign to variables inside myscript.js

  • Slider with keypress control bugs when keys pressed to quickly.

    - by Jaybuz
    Hello, I've made a slider that uses the left and right arrow keys to move the slide but when pressed to quickly it will bug a little and I was wondering if it's possible to limit the amount of presses in say a second. You can see it here: {link} $('#slider-nav div').click(function() { $('#slider-nav div').removeClass('selected').addClass(''); $('#slider-nav div:eq('+($.jcarousel.intval($(this).text())-1)+')').addClass('selected'); }) // Allow left and right keys to control slider $(document.documentElement).keypress(function(e) { var code = (e.keyCode ? e.keyCode : e.which); var direction = null; // handle cursor keys if (code == 37) { // left key direction = 'prev'; } else if (code == 39) { // right key direction = 'next'; } if (direction != null) { $('#slider-nav div.selected')[direction]().click(); } });

  • jQuery Plugin with $.getJSON Returning undefined?

    - by Oscar Godson
    Inside of a jQuery plugin I made I have: $.getJSON(base_url,{ agenda_id:defaults.id, action:defaults.action+defaults.type, output:defaults.output },function(json){ return json; }); And in a separate JS file (yes, it comes after the plugin): json = $('#agenda-live-preview').agenda({action:'get',type:'agenda',output:'json'}); alert(json[0].agenda_id); If i do the above $.getJSON and put an alert inside of the $.getJSON it works and returns "3", which is correct. If I do it like the json=$('#agenda-live-preview').agenda(...)... it returns undefined. My JSON is valid, and the json[0].agenda_id is correct also, I know it's in a callback, so how do I get the stuff inside of a callback in a function return?

  • jQuery wait for ajax call to be over before continuing

    - by Flo
    Hi all, I have a problem with a jQuery ajax call. I need to wait for the call to be finished in order to return a value. However, the script seems to jump ahead and not wait for the call to be over. my function then returns "undefined". I have tried to use the .ajax() method and set the value of async to false, but this would not work either. I could I get my function to return the value that I could through the ajax call? Thank you! Here is the code: function get_rsrce_name(){ jQuery.post( '<?php echo admin_url( 'admin-ajax.php' ); ?>', { action :'my_action', option_rsrce : 'option_rsrce' }, function( data ) { output = data.option_name; }, "json" ); return output; }

  • Update graph in real time from server

    I'm trying to update a graph with received data, so that the height of the bars increase as more data is received from the server via a websocket. But my code doesn't render a graph in the browser and plot the data points. I cannot see anything wrong with the code. I really need some help here please. ws = new WebSocket("ws://localhost:8888/dh"); var useData = [] //var chart; var chart = d3.select("body") .append("svg:svg") .attr("class", "chart") .attr("width", 420) .attr("height", 200); ws.onmessage = function(evt) { var distances = JSON.parse(evt.data); data = distances.miles; console.log(data); if(useData.length <= 10){ useData.push(data) } else { var draw = function(data){ // Set the width relative to max data value var x = d3.scale.linear() .domain([0, d3.max(useData)]) .range([0, 420]); var y = d3.scale.ordinal() .domain(useData) .rangeBands([0, 120]); var rect = chart.selectAll("rect") .data(useData) // enter rect rect.enter().append("svg:rect") .attr("y", y) .attr("width", x) .attr("height", y.rangeBand()); // update rect rect .attr("y", y) .attr("width", x) .attr("height", y.rangeBand()); var text = chart.selectAll("text") .data(useData) // enter text text.enter().append("svg:text") .attr("x", x) .attr("y", function (d) { return y(d) + y.rangeBand() / 2; }) .attr("dx", -3) // padding-right .attr("dy", ".35em") // vertical-align: middle .attr("text-anchor", "end") // text-align: right .text(String); // update text text .data(useData) .attr("x", x) .text(String); } useData.length = 0; } } Thanks

  • Updating D3 column chart with different values and different data sizes

    - by mbeasley
    Background I am attempting to create a reusable chart object with D3.js. I have setup a chart() function that will produce a column chart. On a click event on any of the columns, the chart will update with a new random data array that will contain a random number of data points (i.e. the original chart could have 8 columns, but upon update, could have 20 columns or 4 columns). Problem Say I have 8 data points (and thus 8 columns) in my original dataset. When I update the chart with random data, the columns appropriately adjust their height to the new values - but new bars aren't added. Additionally, while the width of the columns appropriately adjust to accommodate the width of the container and the new number of data points, if that number of data points is less than the original set, then some of those columns from the original dataset will linger until the number of data points is greater than or equal than the original. My end goal is to have new data dynamically added or old data outside of the range of the new data count dynamically removed. I've created a jsfiddle of the behavior. You may have to click the columns a couple of times to see the behavior I'm describing. Additionally, I've pasted my code below. Thanks in advance! function chart(config) { // set default options var defaultOptions = { selector: '#chartZone', class: 'chart', id: null, data: [1,2,6,4, 2, 6, 7, 2], type: 'column', width: 200, height: 200, callback: null, interpolate: 'monotone' }; // fill in unspecified settings in the config with the defaults var settings = $.extend(defaultOptions, config); function my() { // generate chart with this function var w = settings.width, h = settings.height, barPadding = 3, scale = 10, max = d3.max(settings.data); var svg = d3.select(settings.selector) // create the main svg container .append("svg") .attr("width",w) .attr("height",h); var y = d3.scale.linear().range([h, 0]), yAxis = d3.svg.axis().scale(y).ticks(5).orient("left"), x = d3.scale.linear().range([w, 0]); y.domain([0, max]).nice(); x.domain([0, settings.data.length - 1]).nice(); var rect = svg.selectAll("rect") .data(settings.data) .enter() .append("rect") .attr("x", function(d,i) { return i * (w / settings.data.length); }) .attr("y", function(d) { return h - h * (d / max); }) .attr("width", w / settings.data.length - barPadding) .attr("height", function(d) { return h * (d / max); }) .attr("fill", "rgb(90,90,90)"); svg.append("svg:g") .attr("class", "y axis") .attr("transform", "translate(-4,0)") .call(yAxis); svg.on("click", function() { var newData = [], maxCap = Math.round(Math.random() * 100); for (var i = 0; i < Math.round(Math.random()*100); i++) { var newNumber = Math.random() * maxCap; newData.push(Math.round(newNumber)); } newMax = d3.max(newData); y.domain([0, newMax]).nice(); var t = svg.transition().duration(750); t.select(".y.axis").call(yAxis); rect.data(newData) .transition().duration(750) .attr("height", function(d) { return h * (d / newMax); }) .attr("x", function(d,i) { return i * (w / newData.length); }) .attr("width", w / newData.length - barPadding) .attr("y", function(d) { return h - h * (d / newMax); }); }); } my(); return my; } var myChart = chart();

  • prevent hover set by the CSS

    - by meo
    I try to prevent the Browser from using the :hover effect of the CSS. $("ul#mainFilter a").hover( function(o){ o.preventDefault(); ...do my stuff... }, function(o){ o.preventDefault(); ...do my stuff... }); I tired it with return false; to but it does not work. Does anyone know how to do this? due the answers i give you some more nfo: I have set the a and a:hover styles, in my CSS already. Now if JS is available on the clients machine, i want to overwrite the effect with a smoother one. (using jQuery color plugin) As mentioned by fudgey, a work around would be to set the style (using .css()) but i would have to overwrite every single effect specified in the CSS (see here: http://jsfiddle.net/raPeX/1/ ). I am looking for a generic solution.
