  • Condition Variable in Shared Memory - is this code POSIX-conformant?

    - by GrahamS
    We've been trying to use a mutex and condition variable to synchronise access to named shared memory on a LynuxWorks LynxOS-SE system (POSIX-conformant). One shared memory block is called "/sync" and contains the mutex and condition variable, the other is "/data" and contains the actual data we are syncing access to. We're seeing failures from pthread_cond_signal() if both processes don't perform the mmap() calls in exactly the same order, or if one process mmaps in some other piece of shared memory before it mmaps the sync memory. This example code is about as short as I can make it: #include <sys/types.h> #include <sys/stat.h> #include <sys/mman.h> #include <sys/file.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <pthread.h> #include <errno.h> #include <iostream> #include <string> using namespace std; static const string shm_name_sync("/sync"); static const string shm_name_data("/data"); struct shared_memory_sync { pthread_mutex_t mutex; pthread_cond_t condition; }; struct shared_memory_data { int a; int b; }; //Create 2 shared memory objects // - sync contains 2 shared synchronisation objects (mutex and condition) // - data not important void create() { // Create and map 'sync' shared memory int fd_sync = shm_open(shm_name_sync.c_str(), O_CREAT|O_RDWR, S_IRUSR|S_IWUSR); ftruncate(fd_sync, sizeof(shared_memory_sync)); void* addr_sync = mmap(0, sizeof(shared_memory_sync), PROT_READ|PROT_WRITE, MAP_SHARED, fd_sync, 0); shared_memory_sync* p_sync = static_cast<shared_memory_sync*> (addr_sync); // init the cond and mutex pthread_condattr_t cond_attr; pthread_condattr_init(&cond_attr); pthread_condattr_setpshared(&cond_attr, PTHREAD_PROCESS_SHARED); pthread_cond_init(&(p_sync->condition), &cond_attr); pthread_condattr_destroy(&cond_attr); pthread_mutexattr_t m_attr; pthread_mutexattr_init(&m_attr); pthread_mutexattr_setpshared(&m_attr, PTHREAD_PROCESS_SHARED); pthread_mutex_init(&(p_sync->mutex), &m_attr); pthread_mutexattr_destroy(&m_attr); // Create the 'data' shared memory int fd_data = shm_open(shm_name_data.c_str(), O_CREAT|O_RDWR, S_IRUSR|S_IWUSR); ftruncate(fd_data, sizeof(shared_memory_data)); void* addr_data = mmap(0, sizeof(shared_memory_data), PROT_READ|PROT_WRITE, MAP_SHARED, fd_data, 0); shared_memory_data* p_data = static_cast<shared_memory_data*> (addr_data); // Run the second process while it sleeps here. sleep(10); int res = pthread_cond_signal(&(p_sync->condition)); assert(res==0); // <--- !!!THIS ASSERT WILL FAIL ON LYNXOS!!! munmap(addr_sync, sizeof(shared_memory_sync)); shm_unlink(shm_name_sync.c_str()); munmap(addr_data, sizeof(shared_memory_data)); shm_unlink(shm_name_data.c_str()); } //Open the same 2 shared memory objects but in reverse order // - data // - sync void open() { sleep(2); int fd_data = shm_open(shm_name_data.c_str(), O_RDWR, S_IRUSR|S_IWUSR); void* addr_data = mmap(0, sizeof(shared_memory_data), PROT_READ|PROT_WRITE, MAP_SHARED, fd_data, 0); shared_memory_data* p_data = static_cast<shared_memory_data*> (addr_data); int fd_sync = shm_open(shm_name_sync.c_str(), O_RDWR, S_IRUSR|S_IWUSR); void* addr_sync = mmap(0, sizeof(shared_memory_sync), PROT_READ|PROT_WRITE, MAP_SHARED, fd_sync, 0); shared_memory_sync* p_sync = static_cast<shared_memory_sync*> (addr_sync); // Wait on the condvar pthread_mutex_lock(&(p_sync->mutex)); pthread_cond_wait(&(p_sync->condition), &(p_sync->mutex)); pthread_mutex_unlock(&(p_sync->mutex)); munmap(addr_sync, sizeof(shared_memory_sync)); munmap(addr_data, sizeof(shared_memory_data)); } int main(int argc, char** argv) { if(argc>1) { open(); } else { create(); } return (0); } Run this program with no args, then another copy with args, and the first one will fail at the assert checking the pthread_cond_signal(). But change the open() function to mmap() the "/sync" memory first and it will all work fine. This seems like a major bug in LynxOS but LynuxWorks claim that using mutex and condition variable in this way is not covered by the POSIX standard, so they are not interested. Can anyone determine if this code does violate POSIX? Or does anyone have any convincing documentation that it is POSIX compliant?

  • Jquery modal dialog disables its own controls

    - by Anil Soman
    I have a DIV to be shown as modal dialog in my ASP.Net MVC project. This DIV has a textbox to accept user input. However, when I open the dialog with modal option set to true, it disables this textbox as well along with parent form controls! How do I enable the controls on the dialog when open as modal? <div id="assumption-block" class="ic-assumption-block-pos"> <input type="text" id="maxid" value="text" /> </div> Script $('#assumption-block').dialog({modal:true});

  • Single click to activate last tab in windows 7 internet explorer (like FF)

    - by Kirk Hings
    Windows 7 annoyance: the jump lists are fine for hovering over the taskbar items, great go ahead and show me previews of all the open instances and maybe I'll pick the exact one I want. However this works different between IE and FF. Hovering over the FF icon just shows me the single FF window, not any of the tabs I have open. Clicking it means my FF window opens and I'm at the last tab I was on. Great, normal behavior, one click and I'm in. Hovering over the IE icon shows me all the tabs in my single IE window. Ok, but I just want to go back to my last active IE tab. I can't! I am forced to click twice to go back to any IE tab. Sure it's a minor annoyance, but as I'm developing throughout the day I find it more and more annoying. Any ideas to fix so I can just click the IE taskbar icon once and it pulls up the last tab I was on?

  • [Simple] Beginner AJAX script not working, stuck on opening XMLHttpRequest

    - by Julian H. Lam
    Hopefully, this question isn't too juvenile to ask - but here goes: I'm trying to learn AJAX, and I'm stuck on a simple content-fetch. Here is my code: request = getHTTPObject(); function useHttpResponse() { if (request.readyState == 4) { document.getElementById("p").innerHTML = request.responseText; } } function update_p() { request.open("GET",content.html,true); request.onreadystatechange = useHttpResponse; } getHTTPObject is correctly defined, and returns a proper XMLHttpObject. As you probably guessed from the excerpt, the element I am trying to update is id'd "p". It calls the script correctly when a button is clicked, no problem there. The script seems to stop at line 8, at request.open. There's no error, and the script silently ignores anything afterward. I don't think I've missed anything, but of course, I probably did. Where did I go wrong? Thanks!

  • @@TRANCOUNT and a current connection

    - by AspOnMyNet
    Assume I connect to SQL server 2008 via SQL Server Management Studio ( SSMS ) and open new window W1 by clicking on New Query tab and write the following inside W1: BEGIN TRANSACTION; If I execute this statement 5 times, and then write (inside W1) SELECT @@TRANCOUNT; , then the value returned will be 5. But if I open another window W2 ( inside the same SSMS instance and thus on the same connection ) and write inside W2 SELECT @@TRANCOUNT; then value returned will be 0. @@TRANCOUNT variable returns the number of active transactions for the current connection. Both W1 and W2 windows were opened on the same connection, so shouldn’t ( according to the above quote ) in both W1 and W2 variable @@TRANCOUNT hold the same value? thanx

  • WindowStartupLocation.CenterScreen is opening my window on the wrong display

    - by chaiguy
    According to the documentation, CenterScreen should open the window in the center of the screen that contains the mouse cursor, however this is not happening. I have a dual monitor setup, with my secondary monitor appearing to the left of my primary monitor (the one with the task bar). When the user clicks a link in my interface on the primary (right-most) monitor, and I open a new window with WindowStartupLocation set to CenterScreen, the window appears in the center of the screen of the left monitor. This is not where the mouse is and I am lost as to why it is picking that display. Has anyone experienced this before or have any ideas for a workaround? If I can't get the proper behavior using WindowStartupLocation, I will just manually move the window to the proper display (I still have to figure that out though).

  • Why is phpseclib producing incompatible certs?

    - by chacham15
    Why is it that when I try to use a certificate/key pair generated from phpseclib, the OpenSSL server code errors out? Certs/Keys generated from OpenSSL work fine. How do I fix this? • Browser tabs creates multuple instances of a sidebar for each tabs. I want only one sidebar for all

    - by BHOdevelopper
    I have a sidebar (iframe). The problem is, if you open a second tab (in the same browser) it creates a new instance of the same sidebar. That means i have now 2 sidebars. In exemple, if i close the sidebar in the first tab, i would like to have it closed in the second tab as well. Is it possible to have only one instance of a sidebar in a browser, so that even if i open a new tab, the sidebar is not affected. (the goal is to interact with evey pages we visit with one sidebar. If anyone need precisions, please ask. I'll be checking for responses every single days.

  • Create java sandbox based on security policies

    - by argos
    I need to create environment to run potentially untrusted code. Program allowed to connect to preconfigured address:port and nothing else (even read the system time). I have compiled the class whitelist. I'd searched similar questions, but found only template that based on SecurityManager which AFAIK is deprecated. Can anybody give me a simple sample how to run code in sandbox based on security policies and AccessController?

  • Flash CS5 projects panel totally gone?

    - by Jesse
    So, I popped open up Flash CS5 just now, and I couldn't find my projects panel. I was working on a dual screen set up previously, so my windows were everywhere anyways (sans external). I switched over to a smaller screen workspace, and popped opened the projects panel. Oddly enough, the code snippets panel came up instead. So, I switched off the code snippets, and tried again. I've been trying different ways of opening this panel for about 15 minutes, and I'm totally stumped. Some thorough googling didn't present any relevant results, so, StackOverflow, I turn to you. Is this a known issue? is there a secret backdoor way to open this panel? Am I totally missing something?

  • How should I deal with persisting an Android WebView if my activity gets destroyed while showing ano

    - by Shaun Crampton
    Hi, I'm building an Android application that's based around an enhanced WebView (based on PhoneGap). I've enhanced the WebView so that from JavaScript running inside you can invoke the native contact picker to choose a phone number (which may be supplied by Facebook for example). The problem I have is that the native contact picker runs in an activity in another process and the Android docs say that while another activity is open my activity may get destroyed due to memory constraints. I haven't actually seen this happen in my application but if it did then I'm guessing my WebView's state would be destroyed and the code that was waiting for the picked contact would be terminated. It seems a bit crazy that the activity requesting a contact could be destroyed while the contact picker is open. Does anyone know if that does indeed happen? Is there a way to persist the state of the WebView if it does? Thanks, -Shaun

  • how to implement windows service loop that waits for a period in C# / .NET2.0

    - by matti
    My question is that is this the best practice to do this. Couldn't find any good examples. I have following code in file created by VS2005: public partial class ObjectFolder : ServiceBase { protected override void OnStart(string[] args) { ObjectFolderApp.Initialize(); ObjectFolderApp.StartMonitorAndWork(); } protected override void OnStop() { // TODO: Add code here to perform any tear-down necessary to stop yourservice. } } then: class ObjectFolderApp { public static bool Initialize() { //all init stuff return true; } public static void StartMonitorAndWork() { Thread worker = new Thread(MonitorAndWork); worker.Start(); } private static void MonitorAndWork() { int loopTime = 60000; if (int.TryParse(_cfgValues.GetConfigValue("OfWaitLoop"), out loopTime)) loopTime = 1000 * loopTime; while (true) { /* create+open connection and fill DataSet */ DataSet ofDataSet = new DataSet("ObjectFolderSet"); using (_cnctn = _dbFactory.CreateConnection()) { _cnctn.Open(); //do all kinds of database stuff } Thread.Sleep(loopTime); } } }

  • FOSS HTML to PDF in Python, .Net or command line?

    - by jle
    I have google as much as I possible, checked stackoverflow several times, and yet I can not find a good html to pdf converter that can handle css. Is there a free and open source solution (even for commercial usage)? There are many solutions, with huge variety of price ranges, but I was looking for something open source and free. I have tried PISA for Python and it works fairly well, but is not free for commercial usage. Is there anything for .Net? I have not had success with iTextSharp.

  • Compatibility of x-www-browser

    - by rohit.arondekar
    I want to open html files from a shell script. I know that Ubuntu has a command x-www-browser that will open the default browser on the system. I also found via some Googling that the command is part of the debian system. I was wondering if the command is available on non debian based distros. If it isn't is there a standard way of opening an html file in the default browser on a linux OS via command line? Note that I'm using Bash.

  • Opening vbp Visual Basic Project

    - by Roman
    I have got some old sources written in Visual Basic. There are *.bas, *.cls, *.frm and *.vbp files. As I understand, vbp is a project file. But I cannot open it with my Visual Studio 2008. What version of VS should I install to open *.vbp file? Google says it is Visual Studio 6, but I am not sure and I cannot find Visual Studio 6 for downloading. Is there any publicly available free edition of Visual Studio 6 with Visual Basic? Thanks.

  • ASP.NET Session and target blank

    - by Lennart
    Hi I have seen a few posts regarding Session and using target blank to open a new page. But I still don´t get it. Im working with an application which opens from a link on an Intranet site. I guess it uses target blank to get it in a new window. (I don´t have the source). If both windows are closed (My application and the Intranet site) it seems like the Session is destroyed. I need that to happen when my application is closed. (ie, still leaving the Intranet site open). If I use the site in my testenvironment without opening it from a page with target blank, it seems like I get the expected behaviour. Web.config has: pages enableSessionState="true" Thanks

  • MySQL app with Cassandra in mind

    - by SODA
    I am planning to make a web app which will eventually use Cassandra. But now that I don't have it and don't have server(s) to run it from, I'd like to start by using MySQL. The question is, is it possible to structure data and queries in such a way that it would be fairly easy to later port it to Cassandra? Main idea, I guess, would be writing MySQL queries that would be possible to change to same Cassandra queries. Maybe you have a better suggestion?

  • How to stop an Android Service ONLY when there are no other activities in my app running?

    - by johnrock
    Is there a way I can test if there are any other activities in my app still alive? I am looking to stop a service in an onDestroy method, but only want to do this if there are no other activities from my app still alive on the stack. I have the call stop the service in the main activity's onDestroy() method. This works perfect EXCEPT that if a user launches my app, then launches a few activities in my app, then hits the home screen and RELAUNCHES my app, they will subvert my order and the main activity will now be above other activities of my app. From this state, if they hit the back button and 'back out' of my home screen they will trigger the onDestroy() method and kill the service even though there are other activities open on the stack. I want to avoid this by stopping the service ONLY if I am sure there are no other activities of mine open on the stack. Possible?
