    I have this query and I have an error: images = Image.find_by_sql('PREPARE stmt FROM \' SELECT * FROM images AS i WHERE i.on_id = 1 AND i.on_type = "profile" ORDER BY i.updated_at LIMIT ?, 6\ '; SET @lower_limit := ((5 DIV 6) * 6); EXECUTE stmt USING @lower_limit;') Mysql::Error: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'SET @lower_limit := ((5 DIV 6) * 6); EXECUTE stmt USING @lower_limit' at line 1: PREPARE stmt FROM ' SELECT * FROM images AS i WHERE i.on_id = 1 AND i.on_type = "profile" ORDER BY i.updated_at LIMIT ?, 6'; SET @lower_limit := ((5 DIV 6) * 6); EXECUTE stmt USING @lower_limit;

  • Aggregate Functions and Group By Problems

    - by David Stein
If we start with the following simple SQL statement which works. SELECT sor.FPARTNO, sum(sor.FUNETPRICE) FROM sorels sor GROUP BY sor.FPARTNO FPartNo is the part number and the Funetprice is obviously the net price. The user also wants the description and this causes a problem. If I follow up with this: SELECT sor.FPARTNO, sor.fdesc, sum(sor.FUNETPRICE) FROM sorels sor GROUP BY sor.FPARTNO, sor.fdesc If there are multiple variations of the description for that part number, typically very small variations in the text, then I don't actually aggregate on the part number. Make sense? I'm sure this must be simple. How can I return the first fdesc that corresponds to the part number? Any of the description variations would suffice as they are almost entirely identical. Edit: The description is a text field.

  • How can I iterate over a recordset within a stored procedure?

    - by David
I need to iterate over a recordset from a stored procedure and execute another stored procedure using each fields as arguments. I can't complete this iteration in the code. I have found samples on the internets, but they all seem to deal with a counter. I'm not sure if my problem involved a counter. I need the T-SQL equivalent of a foreach Currently, my first stored procedure stores its recordset in a temp table, #mytemp. I assume I will call the secondary stored procedure like this: while (something) execute nameofstoredprocedure arg1, arg2, arg3 end

  • Best practices for extending third party databases?

    - by Eric Watkins
I have a situation where our developers extended a Third party database (MS SQL) by adding tables, views, stored procedures, and functions. Recently when the vender issued updates to the database they dropped all of our custom objects. The question now is what are some best practices that will allow us to extend the third party database but keep our objects safe from future updates? My first thought is to create a separate database but then I’m stuck with fully qualifying all the references back to the original database which may cause issues promoting database changes from test to production.

  • Choosing connectionstring in VB.NET application at startup

    - by MatsT
I have a VB.NET application with a connection to an SQL Server 2003. On the server there are two databases, MyDatabase and MyDatabase_Test. What I would like to do is to show a dialog when the program starts that let's the user choose which database to use. My idea is to create a new form as the starup form that sets this property and then launches the main form. Currently the connectionstring is specified in the application config file. Best would be if I can specify two different connection strings in that file to choose from, but for now it is also acceptable with other solutions like hardcoding the two connectionstrings into the startup form.

  • Speeding up inner joins between a large table and a small table

    - by Zaid
This may be a silly question, but it may shed some light on how joins work internally. Let's say I have a large table L and a small table S (100K rows vs. 100 rows). Would there be any difference in terms of speed between the following two options?: OPTION 1: OPTION 2: --------- --------- SELECT * SELECT * FROM L INNER JOIN S FROM S INNER JOIN L ON L.id = S.id; ON L.id = S.id; Notice that the only difference is the order in which the tables are joined. I realize performance may vary between different SQL languages. If so, how would MySQL compare to Access?

  • Javascript string syntax to write SQL

    - by sebastien leblanc
I am writing an SQL query as a Javascript string like that: SQLdetail = 'SELECT [Avis SAP], Avis.[Ordre SAP], [Date Appel], [Heur Appel], Client_List![Code Client], [Numero Passerelle], [Designation Appel], Ordre![Metier], Ordre!Repercussion, Ordre!Objet, Ordre![Profil Panne], Ordre!Cause, Ordre![Sommaire Correctif], Ordre![Statut]' SQLdetail += ' FROM (Avis' SQLdetail += ' LEFT JOIN Client_List ON Avis.[Numero Client] = Client_List.[Numero Client])' SQLdetail += ' LEFT JOIN Ordre ON Avis.[Ordre SAP] = Ordre.[Ordre SAP] WHERE Avis.[Date Appel] BETWEEN #' & DateOne & '# AND #' & DateTwo & '#;' alert('SQLdetail:' + SQLdetail) and the last SQLdetail += somehow returns "0". Am I missing something in the syntax that just turns the whole string to a 0?

  • Union on ValuesQuerySet in django

    - by Wuxab
I've been searching for a way to take the union of querysets in django. From what I read you can use query1 | query2 to take the union... This doesn't seem to work when using values() though. I'd skip using values until after taking the union but I need to use annotate to take the sum of a field and filter on it and since there's no way to do "group by" I have to use values(). The other suggestions I read were to use Q objects but I can't think of a way that would work. Do I pretty much need to just use straight SQL or is there a django way of doing this? What I want is: q1 = mymodel.objects.filter(date__lt = '2010-06-11').values('field1','field2').annotate(volsum=Sum('volume')).exclude(volsum=0) q2 = mymodel.objects.values('field1','field2').annotate(volsum=Sum('volume')).exclude(volsum=0) query = q1|q2 But this doesn't work and as far as I know I need the "values" part because there's no other way for Sum to know how to act since it's a 15 column table.

  • FOR XML PATH Query results to file with SSIS

    - by whimsql
In SSMS I've gotten my for xml path query written and it's beautiful. I put it in an "Execute SQL Task" in the Control Flow, set the resultset to XML. Now how to I get the results into an actual xml file that I can turn around and FTP to a third party? This should have been so easy! I would put the XML into a variable but we are looking at a HUGE file, possibly 100mb+ Do I need to use a Script Task? (I'd like to avoid that if there is another option.)

  • SSIS - Can I get the column schema for a flat file source from a database?

    - by Steve Clement
We receive a nightly data export from a vendor in the form of about 10 tab-delimited flat file without column headers. In addition, the vendor provides us with the SQL scripts for the database tables so that we can import the files into our system. Unfortunately, the vendor recently changed the schema for the flat files. Each file has upwards 150 columns, and having to go through the DB schema and adjust column types on a Flat File Data Source in SSIS is extremely time consuming, not to mention a royal pain. Since I know the file data layout in the database schema, is there any way I can dynamically pull that into a Flat File source to set the columns correctly? Or am I just stuck with manually setting everything?

  • CLR Function not working in restored database

    - by Ben Thul
So I've restore a database with CLR assemblies in it from one physical server to another. One of the functions in the CLR assembly essentially does an uncompress of some compressed data. When I run this function against data in the restored database it returns the compressed data (rather than the uncompressed data). No error is thrown in SSMS or in the SQL server error logs. At the suggestion of others, I've checked differences in the database ownership (both owned by sa), trustworthiness (both set to not trustworthy). I also checked differences in the .NET framework installs on both machines but found only that the target machine had a 1.1 version installed that the source didn't. I don't know what else to try. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance. Thanks in advance, Ben

  • CREATE USER in MS Access 2010

    - by Anakela
I have been searching for several hours regarding how to create a user using SQL for a database I am building in Access. I found several sources on Microsoft's website that say I can use the CREATE USER command to do this. However, whenever I attempt to run the query, an error saying Syntax error in CREATE TABLE statement pops up. What am I doing wrong? Thank you in advance for your help! If you're interested, the code format I am attempting to use is as follows: CREATE USER username, password, pid.

  • Create view or SP, only if the DB contains a pattern

    - by Randall Salas
Hi all: I am working on a script, that needs to be run in many different SQL servers. Some of them, shared the same structure, in other words, they are identical, but the filegroups and the DB names are different. This is because is one per client. Anyway, I would like when running a script, If I chose the wrong DB, it should not be executed. I am trying to mantain a clean DB. here is my example, which only works for dropping a view if exists, but does not work for creating a new one. I also wonder how it would be for creating a stored procedure. Thx a lot. if exists (select * from dbo.sysobjects where id = object_id(N'[dbo].[ContentModDate]') and OBJECTPROPERTY(id, N'IsView') = 1) AND CHARINDEX('Content', DB_NAME()) 0 drop view [dbo].[ContentModDate] GO IF (CHARINDEX('Content', DB_NAME()) 0)BEGIN CREATE VIEW [dbo].[Rx_ContentModDate] AS SELECT 'Table1' AS TableName, MAX(ModDate) AS ModDate FROM Tabl1 WHERE ModDate IS NOT NULL UNION SELECT 'Table2', MAX(ModDate) AS ModDate FROM Table2 WHERE ModDate IS NOT NULL END END GO

  • Getting sourcecontrol on stored procedures

    - by Steffen
First off the technical stuff: We're using VS 2008 pro and running a MS SQL 2008 server. For sourcecontrol we use Subversion. We'd really like to keep our stored procedures in subversion, so we can tell what was changed, when and so forth. However in order for this to work, it has to be seamless, otherwise the developers are just going to forget getting the procedures included in their commits. So are there any good solutions for this ? I'm certain we can't be the only company with this issue :-)

  • Check if checkbox is checked or not (ASPX)

    - by cthulhu
    I have the following code: (some.aspx.cs) if(Page.IsPostBack) { bool apple2 = false; bool pizza2 = false; bool orange2 = false; if (apple.Checked) apple2 = true; if (pizza.Checked) pizza2 = true; if (orange.Checked) orange2 = true; } (some.aspx) <tr> <td>Food:</td> <td>Apple <input type="checkbox" name="food" id="apple" value="apple" runat="server" />Pizza <input type="checkbox" name="food" id="pizza" value="pizza" runat="server" />Orange <input type="checkbox" name="food" id="orange" value="orange" runat="server" /></td> Now, i send the Boolean variables to SQL database. The problem is only with unchecked boxes. I mean, when you check some checkboxes it sends it as true (and that's right) but when i uncheck them it remains the same (true).

  • Authenticating mssql users through different logins

    - by Sebastian Ferreyra
I'm developing a new node.js based frontend for an old intranet site using mssql server and Classic ASP. Both the new and the old site will coexist during the transition phase and both must access the same mssql server using the same database principals. The old ASP/IIS site uses integrated windows login. The new node-based frontend has to use sql server based logins/principals (edit: while the IIS/ASP site must keep using Windows server principals) and all existing database users/principals must keep working wherever they login from. From reading around, it appears that a database principal can not be assigned to multiple server principals, therefore it seems unlikely there's a simple solution to this. I'd like to know if anybody has had to deal with a similar situation before and how they've gone about it.

  • View a SYS.XMLTYPE returned from an Oracle function, using PL/SQL

    - by caerphilly
I have an Oracle function that dynamically creates an XML document, and returns it in a SYS.XMLTYPE value. I want to run a query from SQL Developer that calls that function and prints the document (either via a select, or dbms_output - I don't care). But all the examples/documentation seem to refer to querying XML columns in tables, and I can't seem to get the syntax right for my particular usage. I'd like something like this: declare x SYS.XMLTYPE; begin x := my_package.my_function(); select x.getclobval() from x; -- doesn't work! end; How can I print out the value of the XML type variable 'x' in the above code?

  • How to order the items in a nested LINQ-provided collection

    - by Carson McComas
I've got a (SQL Server) database table called Category. And another database table called SubCategory. SubCategory has a foreign key relationship to Category. Because of this, thanks to LINQ, each Cateogory has a property called SubCategories and LINQ is nice enough to return all the SubCategories associated with my Category when I grab it. If I want to sort the Categories alphabetically, I can just do: return db.Categories.OrderBy(c => c.Name); However, I have no idea how to order the SubCategories collection inside each Category. My goal is to return a collection of Categories, where all of the SubCategory collections inside of them are ordered alphabetically by Name.

  • Troubleshooting MSSQL Connection from PHP

    - by Cory Dee
I'm trying to connect to an external Sql Server through PHP 5.2. Using this line: $con = mssql_connect('123.123.123.123','Username','Password') or die('Could not connect to the server!'); I'm receiving this error: Warning: mssql_connect() [function.mssql-connect]: Unable to connect to server: 123.123.123.123 in /home/file/public_html/structure/index.php on line 4 Could not connect to the server! My hosting provider assures me that ports are open for my server to connect to the DB. Looking at my php info, MSSQL Support is enabled, using FreeTDS. Any ideas why this would be failing, or how I can begin trouble shooting the problem?

  • How to convert a MSSQL database (including procedures, functions and triggers) to a firebird databas

    - by user193655
I am considering migrating to Firebird. To have a "quick start" approach I downloaded the trial of a conversion tool (DBConvert) and tried it. I just picked up a random tool, this tool doesn't convert procedures, functions and triggers (I don't think it is a limit of the trial since there is not an explicit reference to sp, sf and triggers in the link above). Anyway by trying that tool I had the message: "The DB cannot be converted succesfully because some FK names are too long." This is because in some tables I have FK whose description is 32 chars. Is this a real firebird limit or it is possible to overcome it somehow (of course renaming the FK is an extreme option because it is extra work)? Anyway how to convert a MS SQL DB fully to FIREBIRD? Is there a valid tool? Did someone succed in a conversion of non trivial databases?

  • How do I select differing rows in two MySQL tables with the same structure?

    - by chiborg
I have two tables, A and B, that have the same structure (about 30+ fields). Is there a short, elegant way to join these tables and only select rows where one or more columns differ? I could certainly write some script that creates the query with all the column names but maybe there is an SQL-only solution. To put it another way: Is there a short substitute to this: SELECT * FROM table_a a JOIN table_b b ON a.pkey=b.pkey WHERE a.col1 != b.col2 OR a.col2 != b.col2 OR a.col3 != b.col3 # .. repeat for 30 columns

  • Trigger to update data in another DB

    - by Permana
I have the following schema: Database: test. Table: per_login_user, Field: username (PK), password Database: wavinet. Table: login_user, Field: username (PK), password What I want to do is to create a trigger. Whenever a password field on table per_login_user in database test get updated, the same value will be copied to field password in Table login_wavinet in database wavinet I have search trough Google and find this solution: http://forums.devshed.com/ms-sql-development-95/use-trigger-to-update-data-in-another-db-149985.html But, when I run this query: CREATE TRIGGER trgPasswordUpdater ON dbo.per_login_user FOR UPDATE AS UPDATE wavinet.dbo.login_user SET password = I.password FROM inserted I INNER JOIN deleted D ON I.username = D.username WHERE wavinet.dbo.login_wavinet.password = D.password the query return error message: Msg 107, Level 16, State 3, Procedure trgPasswordUpdater, Line 4 The column prefix 'wavinet.dbo.login_wavinet' does not match with a table name or alias name used in the query.
