• Wammu - USB Device Name?

  I'm trying to get to my phone's filesystem through USB in Wammu, but I'm stuck in the configuration wizard when it asks for a USB device name. After about an hour of Internet searching, here are the failed solutions I've already tried, starting with the relevant information returned by lsusb in terminal. lsusb Bus 001 Device 003: ID 12d1:101e Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. So I tried opening Wammu through sudo wammu in terminal and inputting "/dev/bus/usb/001/003" as the device name, which returns: Error opening device Device /dev/bus/usb/001/003 does not exist! and then "/dev/bus/usb/001/", which returns: Failed to connect to phone Description: Error opening device. Unknown, busy, or no permissions.<br> Function: Init<br> Error code: 2 Another proposed solution was to try "tail -f /var/log/messages" in terminal. But that only returned a "No such file or directory" message. I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, and the phone is a Huawei U1250. My computer is an Acer Aspire One D250/KAV60. Any help is much appreciated.

• Wake timers don't wake computer from sleep mode

  I'm got a custom built PC running 64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate. So far everything works great except for one thing: it will not wake up from sleep mode for a wake timer or scheduled task. Sleep mode itself works great. If it's sleeping, it wakes successfully when I press the power button, mash the keyboard, wiggle the mouse, or send a WOL packet. The only problem is wake timers. I even tried the program WakeupOnStandBy but it looks like that uses wake timers, so it doesn't do anything for me either. And yes, wake timers are enabled: Any ideas on how to fix the problem, or troubleshoot it? I'd imagine that there would be a log somewhere telling me exactly why the wake timers are having trouble, but if there is I haven't found it.

• Sudo yum seems to fail on CentOS, but works fine after sudo -i

  I am currently having some trouble with yum through sudo. For some reason, it does not seem to work: aron@graviton [/var/log]# sudo yum clean all There was a problem importing one of the Python modules required to run yum. The error leading to this problem was: /usr/lib64/python2.4/lib-dynload/datetime.so: failed to map segment from shared object: Cannot allocate memory Please install a package which provides this module, or verify that the module is installed correctly.   I have been given access to (parts of) a remote SQL Server 2005 with SQL Server authentication in order to be able to make changes to a database without involving other people who is not working on the project. The database have been created on my local machine. Is there any way to restore the remote database from a backup file on my local computer? I do not currently have access to the filesystem on the remote server. EDIT: To clarify, the access I have is that i can log in to the server via the SQL Server Management Studio. I have one connection to my local database server and one connection to the remote server. What I basically want to do is copy the database from one connection to the other.

  Does SELinux make Redhat more secure? I can't remember the number of times when I have disabled SELinux because it kept frustrating my ability to get stuff running. Lots of times to there was no obvious reason why stuff wasn't working and I had to Google to discover why. Given that most casual users will disable or weaken security when it appears to get in the way, with the exclusion of serious, enterprisey Redhat users, is SELinux really useful? PS. Is there some tool that helps you log, track and manage SELinux issues across all applications? In spite of being an Ubuntu user I am a closet Fedora fan.

  Im having troubles while im trying to connect from linux to Windows CE, via VNC viewer. • RPC Server Unavailable When Trying to Join W2003 Server to W2003 Active Directory Domain

  I have an Active Directory Domain with a Windows 2003 Standard SP2 Server as the DC. When trying to join an additional Windows 2003 Standard SP2 server to the domain I get message "The following error occurred attempting to join the domain 'My Domain'. The RPC Server is unavailable. The computer is actually added to the Active Directory Computers. I can even right-click and Manage it. I can access file shares from the DC on the other server and vice versa. I can ping the DC from this server and ping the server from the DC using the computer name. The time on both server is the same more or less to the second. RPC service is running on both servers. I can join other computers to the domain and there are no other issues with the domain. Windows Firewall disabled on both computers. NetSetup.LOG shows: NetpSetNetloginDomainCache: DSEnumerateDomainTrustsW failed 0x6ba I looked up this WIN32 Error Code: It is RPC_S_SERVER_UNAVAILABLE.

• How can I get multitouch enabled on my Sentelic touchpad (msi x350 notebook)?

  I understand my MSI x350 notebook comes with a Sentelic trackpad, which supports multi-touch (according to the MSI website). Is there a way to enable multitouch on Ubuntu? I've been having difficulty finding info about this on google, and since it's not a synaptics touchpad I haven't been able to find much info in ubuntu docs. My mouse preferences doesn't have a trackpad tab like it does on, say, a Macbook. • Problems with icons and shutting down Ubuntu 12.04

  I recently upgraded from 11-10 to 12.04 as a dual boot (Windows 7) and am having problems with shutting down. I installed from a CD that I burned from the iso file, and to get it to boot from the CD, I needed to install the special help program from Windows that would then recognize the CD as the system booted.The installation gave me my own user account as well as a guest account. For the User account there is no "gear" icon (in the upper RH side) from which to access the shut down menu. Interestingly the icons for the Home folder, the Ubuntu One folder, and the System Settings folder are missing, although there are blank places shows these names if the mouse cursor is positioned over these areas. They will even launch with the press of a key - but no icons are visible. For the Guest account, all of these icons are visible and usable. The problem that occurs in shutting down is that I need to leave the User account, move to the Guest account (so that I can access the top right "gear" icon that has the shut down menu item) and press the shut down button. The problem here is that when the shut own menu appears and I press the confirmation that I wish to shut down the computer, the page blanks (as one might hope in the process of closing down), and then pops up with the log in menu, giving the option of logging in as a User or as a Guest. So the questions are: 1) how do you reinstate the far right top icon from which you can access the shut down drop down menu in the User account page. 2) how do you get the icons to display properly on the Left hand side (Home, Ubuntu One, System Settings, and Workspace Switcher) 3) how do you get the system to turn of when you press the shut down button! Boy oh boy! Thanks a bunch for any help!

• Windows Server 2012 guest machine no internet or LAN

  I have a windows server 2012 with hyper-v added as a feature. I have created a server 2012 and a windows 8 guest machines. The windows 8 machine has internet connectivity and can successfully be added to our AD domain. I can log in to the domain on this guest machine with an AD account. However the server 2012 guest machine cannot be joined to the domain and does not have internet connectivity. Strangely enough (to me!). Is there any special settings/config that I should be doing/have missed?!

• Problem with OWA search. Mailstore catalogues

  Dear All, I have trawled for the last few days but have not been able to come up with a solution; any help would be much appreciated. Exchange 2007 STD on Windows 2003 64Bit and users report search not working in OWA. So I first check indexing is enabled on the mail stores Get-MailboxDatabase |ft Name,IndexEnabled which all report true, So I try a test Test-ExchangeSearch [email protected] Which is a false -1 Ok, So I run the reset - resetsearchindex.ps1 this works and the event log reports the stores being crawled and finished. BUT- My complete catalogue data is 300kb - LOL! I wish! Obviously all tests fail so I do it manually; Stop indexing service, Delete catalogues. Restart Still no dice, This is where I’m up to, I have tried many different variations of the above and being through oodles of MS documentation Has anyone got any ideas?

• Internal+external interfaces with multiple default gateways on win2003

  Im trying to set up several web servers for a load balanced cluster and need to have each server connected to the internal network (for load balancing) as well as to an external network (internet - for administration). I have two NICs but since I cant set two default gateways I have the external gateway as default and the internal as a route rule. This setup only works half way - the internal network is fine but I cant log in from outside or see the web from the box. If I switch the gateways remote login/web will work, but the internal wont. Im sure someone encountered this before but wasnt able to find anything online. Any help will be appreciated.

• Why does my system use so much cache?

  Previously, on my desktop computer running Ubuntu 14.04, I had 4GB RAM, which I thought should be plenty. However, after being on for a while, my computer would seem to get slow. I have a system resource monitor app in my Gnome panel, which I assume represents the available RAM (?). It shows a dark green area as being "Memory", and a light green area as "Cache". The "Cache" would slowly grow until it filled the whole graph, and then programs would get slow to load, or it would take a while to switch programs. I could alleviate the problem somewhat with this command, but eventually the computer cache fills up again, so it's only a bandaid: sudo sh -c "sync; echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches" So, I figured I'd get more RAM, so I replaced one 2GB stick with an 8GB stick, and now I have 10 GB ram. And my "cache" still slowly maxes out and my computer slows as a result. Also, sometimes the computer starts out with "cache" maxed when I first boot and log in. Not always though, I don't know if there's a pattern that determines why it happens. Why is Ubuntu using up so much cache? Is 10GB not enough for Ubuntu? Here's what my system monitor looks like in my Gnome panel. The middle square shows RAM usage. • Stunnel too many clients

  I'm trying to hook up stunnel and haproxy to forward https connections through to some backend servers. I've got haproxy setup right, and I seem to have stunnel set up right. Trouble is that when I hit the setup with a load test after a while I start to see these log entries: 2010.05.05 11:24:43 LOG7[3498:3086792368]: https accepted FD=512 from 10.195.158.225:52579 2010.05.05 11:24:43 LOG4[3498:3086792368]: Connection rejected: too many clients (=500) I guess I've hit a limit somewhere but I wasn't sure how to fix it, there doesn't seem to be a config file option for stunnel to change this. Does anyone know how to configure stunnel for a potentially large number of connections?

• How to solve 404 for static files with Django and Nginx?

  I setup a Trusty VM with Django + Nginx (other stuffs too). The server is working, I get the "Welcome to Django" page. But when I enter to servername/admin it loads the HTML page but fails to load the static content. • Is there an application I can run that will tell me how fast my computer is running?

  At work I log into a virtual Windows machine. I'm told it runs as fast as a PC, but I'm skeptical. Is there an application I can run on the machine that will tell me how faster the machine is actually running? It would be nice if it ran on Windows and on Mac. Updating with more details -- I was asked "why does it matter" -- here's why: It matters because I'm a programmer and I need as much speed (CPU and memory) as possible to do my work. IMO, the virtual machine is noticeably slower than a basic $800 PC would be, but I need a way a proving it. Websites like Bandwidthtest.com can show me my internet speed, so I'm wondering if there's an app that can test my computer's speed.

• SharePoint Server Search Not Crawling

  Hi there, we recently moved some sites into a new farm, everything seems to be doing fine, but the search for reasons I can't identify are not crawling the migrated content. We're getting this message in our crawl log for every document: http://xxx/sites/...announcements The object was not found. (The item was deleted because it was either not found or the crawler was denied access to it.) Of course the first thing I suspected was the crawler access account, so I logged into SharePoint with the account and was able to access via that URL just fine. I tried upping permissions (even all the way up to Admin) but to no avail. Thoughts?
